Blazers Lose In Finale

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost to the Kings yesterday in the season finale. Portland sat most of their usual starters resulting in the lop-sided 121 to 82 loss. Delano Banton led the team with 17 points. Duop Reath scored 14 points in 24 minutes. He’ll definitely be a bright spot for the Blazers to look back on during this rebuilding year that saw a lot of 1st and 2nd year players get the majority of the minutes on a team that suffered more injuries than most. The Trail Blazers finish tied with the 3rd worst record. There will be a draw between them and Charlotte for who has better odds in getting into the NBA draft lottery. Portland will have many player and coaching personnel decisions this offseason.

MLB: 

The Mariners lost yesterday’s rubber match with the Cubs going down 3 to 2. Luis Castillo took the loss. He’s now 0 and 4 to start. Seattle has a visit from the Reds to start a three game series tonight. First pitch is at 6:40.

The Giants’ Blake Snell was roughed up by his former team giving up 7 runs in four innings and San Francisco lost 9 to 4 to the Rays. They’ll stay in Florida heading to Miami for a three game series. First pitch against the Marlins is at 3:40

College Baseball:

18th ranked Oregon got the series with wins Friday and Saturday but USC kept the brooms away yesterday scoring 4 runs after the Ducks took an early 2 - nothing lead. 

Number 4 Oregon State won their series against Stanford but couldn’t get the sweep either, losing 11 to 10 yesterday.

College Softball:

Number 22 Oregon lost yesterday to number 21 Arizona in extra innings, and dropped the series with the Wildcats.

Oregon State beat number 8 Stanford yesterday to avoid the sweep.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers played LAFC to a 2-2 Draw.

The Portland Thorns lost  2 - nil to North Carolina.

Blazers Come Up Short Against Warriors...Downtown Crit Is Back

NBA:

The Trail Blazers played hard against Golden State last night, but came up short 100 to 92. Deandre Atyton had 25 points and 15 rebounds. Scoot Hendersong had 18 points and 12 assists. The rookie has had a string of double doubles as he plays more minutes late in the season. Game 81 of 82 is tonight against Houston. Tip off for the final game at the Moda Center this season is at 7.

MLB: 

The Giants are on the road at Tampa for a weekend series starting today. San Francisco has started 5 and 8 as they’re still trying to get their makeshift pitching staff in order. 2nd year pitcher Keaton Winn is on the mound today. First pitch against the Rays is at 3:50 this afternoon. 

The Mariners at 5 and 8 on the season return to T-Mobile park to face the Cubs who have started 7 and 5. Bryce Miller will go for the Ms. First pitch in Seattle is at 6:40

College Baseball:

18th ranked Oregon has a series at PK Park with USC. Game 1 starts at 5:05 today.

Local: 

The Horner Cycling Foundation is bringing back the Cascade Cycling Classic Criterium to downtown Bend on August 10th. The Downtown Crit was a long time favorite amongst locals but has not happened since 2017. The Cascade Cycling Classic was a five- day stage race. The one-day criterium will have 12 different racing categories.

Softball and Baseball: Mountain View plays Redmond, Caldera against Bend, Ridgeview vs Summit, Crook County battles Estacada, and La Pine plays Harrisburg.

 

Ducks Baseball Beats Sac State...Ducks Softball Beats Grand Canyon

MLB: 

The Mariners unleashed five runs on Toronto in the 10th inning yesterday to win 6 to 1 and avoid the sweep. Starter Logan Gilbert went 7 and 2 thirds giving up 1 run on a no-decision. Cal Raleigh led off the scoring burst in the extra frame with a solo home run. Six is the most runs the Ms have scored all season. It’s back to Seattle to start a series with the Cubs tomorrow.

San Francisco salvaged the series against the Nationals with a 7 to 1 win yesterday. The Giants got big hits from the bottom of the order. Pitcher Jordan Hicks got the win going six innings, scattering 4 hits and an earned run. It's on the road at Tampa tomorrow.

College Baseball:

18th ranked Oregon returned the 7-run blowout last night to Sacramento State winning 11 to 4. The Ducks scored 4 in the first and 3 in the 2nd inning. A weekend series with USC starts tomorrow.

During Oregon State’s win over Portland Travis Bazanna set the record for career home runs at 35. He has 18 homers this season. The season record is 21.

College Softball:

Number 20 Oregon took down Grand Canyon University 9 to 4 yesterday, as the Ducks held off a late inning rally. It’s a big weekend series at Arizona beginning tomorrow.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers host Golden State tonight. With three games left in the season Portland has no incentive to win but plenty to lose as they battle for the 3rd worst record, and third best odds for a higher lottery pick. Seven players are on the injury report that won’t play, including Jerami Grant, who may have already played his last game as a Blazer. Tip off against the Warriors is tonight at 7.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost to New Orleans last night. They hung with the Pelicans for a half but were overwhelmed in the third quarter before falling 110 to 100. Scoot Henderson has been finishing the season strong. He had 15 assists to go with 19 points. Deandre Ayton led the team with 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Portland announced before the game that guard Shaedon Sharpe won’t play the last four games of the season. Portland hosts Golden State tomorrow. 

MLB: 

San Francisco had the potential game tying run on 2nd in the 9th inning but couldn’ score and lost 5 to 3 to the Nationals last night. The Giants will try to salvage the series today starting at 12:45.

The Mariners fell in Toronto 5 to 3 yesterday. The late rally came up short. George Kirby took his second loss of the season. Game 3 against the Blue Jays starts today at 12. Seattle is trying to avoid the sweep.

College Football: 

Running Back Damien Martinez is transferring, leaving Oregon State, according to various reports. Martinez rushed for 1185 yards and scored 9 touchdowns for the Beavers last season. It’s a blow to OSU as the star junior-to-be had said last fall he would remain in Corvallis playing for new coach Trent Bray. Martinez will likely get snapped up quickly by a top school when the transfer portal opens next week.

College Baseball:

5th ranked Oregon State held off Portland last night 11 to 8.

18th ranked Oregon was blown out by Sacramento State 15 to 8 last night. They go at it again today at 5.

College Softball:

Oregon plays at Grand Canyon University today at 6.

Beavers, Ducks Baseball Ranked

MLB: 

The Mariners managed a couple of runs late to keep from getting shut out but lost 5 to 2 in Toronto to open a three game series. JP Crawford and Cal Raleight both had solo homers. Luis Castillo takes his 3rd loss in as many starts. He’s given up four runs each time. Game 2 against the Blue Jays starts today at 4.

San Francisco lost to the Nationals last night 8 to 1. It was the debut for new addition Blake Snell. The Cy Young winner gave up 3 runs in three innings when he reached his pitch count and took the loss. The Giants will try to bounce back tonight. First pitch is 6:45.

College Baseball:

Oregon State stays ranked 4th in Perfect Game, 5th in D1 Baseball dot com, the Writers and the Coaches poll, and 8th in the Baseball America poll. The Beavers are 1st in the conference at 8 and 3. Today they have Portland at Goss Stadium starting at 5:35.

Oregon is 3rd in the Pac 12 playing Sacramento State at 5 today. The Ducks are now ranked in the polls. 17th in Baseball America, 18 in D1 baseball, 19th in the Writers, and 22nd in the Coaches, 

NBA:

The Trail Blazers face New Orleans tonight. They’re back after the long east coast road trip. Portland will have that same long injury report. The Pelicans 

NFL:

The Seattle Seahawks had former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix in for a visit over the weekend according to a report.The Seahawks hold the 16th pick in the first round of NFL Draft, but don’t select again until the third round so its likely a deal would have to be made to move up to select Nix who many observes think is a likely 2nd round selection.

Blazers Can't Hang With Celtics...Beavs, Ducks Winners!

NBA:

The Trail Blazers hung with the Celtics for the first 3 quarters but couldn’t keep up in the 4th losing 124 to 107. Dalano Banton had another strong showing putting up 28 points and 9 assists against the team he was traded from earlier this season. The loss snaps the 2 game win streak. The Blazers leave Boston to come back home to face New Orleans tomorrow night. 

MLB: 

San Francisco beat the Padres 3 to 2 yesterday to take their first series of the season. The Giants pushed two runs across in the 8th inning to take the lead. The Nationals come to Oracle Park tonight First pitch is 6:45.

The Mariners were socked by Milwaukee 12 to 4 yesterday to lose their series. Seattle’s bottom of the order accounted for most of the runs yesterday. Ms’ starter Emerson Hancock gave up 8 earned runs in the 3 and third innings. It’s on to Toronto for a three game series starting today at 4.

College Baseball:

Number 5 Oregon State got the sweep against Arizona State

NBA:

The Trail Blazers are in Washington today. The injury list remains the same with Anfernee Simons among the handful of players who won’t suit up. Jerami Grant still has the Doubtful tag but may as well be designated Out. Portland just snapped their 10 game losing streak and the franchise is not necessarily looking to start a winning streak with the long term plan of getting a decent draft pick more important than wins in the closing weeks of the season. The Wizards are also in Tank mode at 15 and 61, they have five more losses than the Blazers. Tip off is at 4 this afternoon.

MLB: 

San Francisco has the Padres tonight. The Giants lost their opening series in San Diego last week. They were swept by the Dodgers earlier this week. It’s led to a 2 and 5 record. Jordan Hicks, who has credit for pitching one of those wins, gets the start this afternoon. First pitch is 1:35.

The Mariners are in Milwaukee for a weekend series. Seattle is 3 and 4 on the early season. They lost their last two games to Cleveland earlier in the week after splitting the opening series with Boston. Logan Gilbert will be on the mound for the Ms. He’s coming off a no decision in his first start against Boston where he went 7 innings allowing 1 run. The Brewers have opened the season at 4 and 1. Blazers Beat Hornets...Ducks FB Spring Practice

NBA:

The Trail Blazers snapped their 10 game losing streak with an 89 to 86 win over Charlotte last night. Deandre Ayton led the team with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Scoot Henderson had a solid game with 22 points and 10 assists. The Blazers last win was March 9th. A cynic might point out Portland won the game but the Hornets won the tank battle. The loss gives Charlotte an advantage in draft lottery odds.  The road trip moves to the nation’s capitol tomorrow for a meeting with the Wizards.

MLB: 

The Mariners were shutout by the Guardians yesterday 8 to nothing. George Kirby took the loss for Seattle. Now the Ms start a weeklong road trip starting in Milwaukee tomorrow. 

San Francisco lost to the Dodgers last night in Los Angeles. Kyle Harrison took the loss for the Giants who are off to a 2 and 5 start. They welcome the Padres tomorrow.

College Football: 

Spring practice continues today for the Ducks. Senior transfer Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is getting a crash course in leading the offense. Oregon will practice Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays leading to the Spring Game on Saturday the 27th.

Softball:

Number 22 Oregon is getting set for a big series against number 9 Washington starting tomorrow.

Beavs, Ducks Baseball Win...Prep Baseball / Softball Rankings

College Baseball:

Number 5 Oregon State pummeled Gonzaga again last night. OSU scored 13 runs on 17 hits with Gavin Turley going 3 for 5 with a homer, a double and three RBI. Beavers pitching allowed 5 runs on 7 hits to the number 23 Bulldogs.  The Beavs’ home stand continues against Arizona State beginning Friday.

Number 20 Oregon beat Portland last night 7 to 4. The game was paused briefly in the bottom of the 6th inning when both teams came on the field to pick up broken glass after a stadium light was shattered by a foul ball. The Ducks stay on the road and head Southern California for a series against UCLA starting Friday.

MLB: 

The Mariners lost 5 to 2 to the Guardians last night. Luis Castillo took the Loss, his second of the year. Seattle couldn’t do much with their 9 hits. They scored both runs in the 7th inning. Game 3 of the series starts at 1:10 this afternoon as the Ms close out their opening homestand.

San Francisco couldn’t complete a late inning rally and fell to the Dodgers 5 to 4 last night in Los Angeles. Logan Webb gave up all 5 runs in the loss for the Giants They’re back at it tonight. First pitch is at 7:10

The baseball poll has Ridgeview ranked number 3,  Mountain View 4th, Caldera 9th, and Summit just outside the top 10 in 5A, Crook County is 11th in 4A, and La Pine is 10th in 3A

Oregon State dropped number 5 in the Coaches poll and D1 baseball dot com rankings, they’re 6th in the Writer’s and fell all the way to 9th in the Baseball America poll.  The Beavers stomped number 23 Gonzaga last night 14 to 0. They go at it again tonight. First pitch from Corvallis is at 6.

Oregon comes in at number 20 in the Baseball America poll. The Ducks are in Portland tonight at 5:35.

MLB:

Dalano Banton came off the bench to score 26 points, Deandre Ayton had a double double with 20 and 12. It marked the 10th loss in a row. The road trip continues in Charlotte tomorrow.

OSU WBB Falls To South Carolina...

NCAA Basketball Tournament:

The number three seed Oregon State Women lost to number one overall seed South Carolina 70 to 58 yesterday. Foul trouble in the first half for several key players made it tough for the Beavers to hang with the undefeated Gamecocks.  OSU ends their season at 27 and 8. Over the weekend coach Scott Rueck acknowledged it could be hard to keep the team together next season with players getting recruited to transfer as Oregon State plays in the West Coast Conference next season..

College Baseball:

Oregon swept Seattle to run their overall record to 19 and 7, having won 8 of their last nine games. The Ducks are in Portland tomorrow.

Number 2 Oregon State lost two games to USC and had the third game postponed due to weather. The Beavers will have a two game series against Gonzaga starting tonight. First pitch from Corvallis is at 6.

Softball:

Number 21 Oregon lost two games to number 14 UCLA but Saturday’s game was rained out.

Oregon State was swept by number 8 Washington.

The Trail Blazers are trying to shake off the 60 point loss in Miami Friday night. Matisse Thybulle and Anfernee Simons are Out, Jerami Grant is Doubtful. The team announced Saturday Toumani Camara will miss the rest of the season because he suffered a broken rib and a small laceration in the kidney last Wednesday. The rookie had been a bright spot for the Blazers.  Tip-off against the Magic is at 4.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns played to a draw with Racing Louisville. They’re in unfamiliar territory at the bottom of the NWSL Table on the early season with no wins, a tie, and two losses .

The Portland Timbers lost to Vancouver to fall to two, one and three, with that third loss knocking them to 8th in the MLS Standings.

Number 2 Oregon State lost 2 to 1 last night as USC pushed the winning run across for a walkoff in the 9th. Game 2 of the series is today. First Pitch in Los Angeles is at 6:30

Softball:

Number 21 Oregon lost to number 14 UCLA. Game 2 is tonight at 7.

Oregon State lost 5 to 4 to Washington last night. Game 2 is at 6 tonight.

MLB: 

San Francisco lost 6 to 4 to San Diego yesterday. Michael Conforto scored 3 of those runs going 3 for 4 with a homer. Luke Jackson took the loss for the Giants when he gave up 3 runs that gave the Padres the lead in the 7th. They match up again tonight. 

The Seattle Mariners got one on in the 9th but couldn’t rally and lost 6 to 4 to Boston last night. Luis Castillo took the loss. They’re at it again at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is at 6:40

Oregon plays Seattle University today in a non-conference matchup. The Ducks will wrap up an 11-game homestand when they finish the four-game series on Sunday. They’ve won their last two conference series in the process. First Pitch from PK Park is at 5.

The Seattle Mariners will have pitcher Luis Castillo as the team's Opening Day starter against the Boston Red Sox tomorrow. The Ms hope their rotation of Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo can have them compete in a crowded AL West.

Blazers Lose In Houston...OSU's Bazanna Pac 12 Player Of The Week

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost in Houston last night. They actually led at the half but surrendered the lead in the 3rd quarter and ended up getting blown out 110 to 92. With four usual starters all sitting with injuries, Portland went with an All Rookie starting five again.  But it was recent trade acquisition Delano Banton who led the team with 28 points.  The  Blazers have dropped 7 in a row. A bright spot is Shaedon Sharpe is rehabbing with the G League affiliate Rip City Remix, so the guard is on his way back to the line-up. Jerami Grant, Deandre Ayton, Anfernee Simons and Matisse Thybulle are all going to be day to day during this road trip though. They’re in Atlanta tomorrow.

The number 3 seed Oregon State Women will take on second-seeded Notre Dame on Friday in Albany, New York in the Sweet Sixteen round.

College Baseball:

Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana has been named the Pac-12's Player of the Week. The junior second baseman earned his third selection of the season after hitting six home runs with eight hits and 11 runs batted in last week.

The Beavers are again ranked 2nd in the D1 Baseball dot com poll,USA Today Coaches Poll and Writer’s Poll, they moved to number 3 in Baseball America. 

College Athletics:

The Associated Press reports Oregon State and Washington State will get $65-million from among the 10 schools leaving the Pac 12 conference after this season.

11 Ducks MBB Advance To Play 3 Creighton Tomorrow...3 OSU vs 14 E Washington Today

College Hoops:

The 11th seeded Oregon men upset number six South Carolina 87 to 73 yesterday led by Jermaine Couisnard’s 40 points.  The Ducks will take on number three seed Creighton tomorrow. Hear the game on KBND.

The Trail Blazers led after the first quarter but then were overtaken in the 2nd and couldn’t get back in it as the Clippers held off any Portland rally. 116 to 103 was the final. Scoot Henderson was high scorer with 18. The Blazers have lost 4 in a row. It was their 50th loss of the season with 19 wins. And it’s the Clippers again tomorrow night at the Moda Center.

College Hoops:

The Oregon men are seeded 11th in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA tournament. Many pundits say number six seed South Carolina will have their hands full with the red hot Ducks squad led by N’Faly Dante. The U of O is a point and a half underdog.The game tips off in Pittsburgh just after 1 this afternoon. Coverage starts at 12:30 here on KBND..   

NFL:

The Seahawks are reportedly having a look at former UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, he wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine but will compete in a few weeks at the Big 12 Pro Day. Seattle has seven picks in next month’s draft. They just traded a draft pick for quarterback Sam Howell who started for The Commanders last season to back-up Geno Smith.

College Softball: Oregon moved up to number 22 in the latest USA Softball rankings. The Ducks will host a series with Arizona State starting tomorrow.

MLB: 

In news that’s not much of a surprise, the Seattle Mariners have named pitcher Luis Castillo as the team's Opening Day starter against the Boston Red Sox…which is now one week from tonight.

College Baseball:

Number 2 Oregon State blew out Portland last night 14 to 4. Mason Guerra went 3 for 5 with a solo homer, a 2 run blast, and a 3-run dinger, that’s six RBI. Travis Bazanna had 2 homers, one of them was his 200th career hit. Now the Beavers have a series with Washington starting Friday.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers return to the Moda Center to face the Clippers. Tonight is the first of two meetings with LA as they will go at it again Friday. Portland has lost 3 in a row, while the Clippers are fighting for playoff positioning having lost 2 in a row. Jerami Grant is Doubtful and Matisse Thybulle is Questionable. Tip off is at 7.

NFL:

The Seahawks have reportedly signed Defensive Tackle Jonathon Hankins away from Dallas, and former Titan and Eagle Defensive Back K’Von Wallace. Seattle has been active with signings over the past few days, some might call the approach sifting through the free-agent bargain racks.

MLB: 

San Francisco is expected to welcome Pitcher Blake Snell at the Giants Spring Training facility in Scottsdale today. The Free Agent passed his physical, sealing the deal on his 2 year contract.

TrailBlazers Can't Run With Bulls...OSU Baseball Climbs, Slides In Polls

NBA:

The Trail Blazers hung with Chicago all game but couldn’t pull out the win losing 110 to 107 last night. Portland was led by Anfernee Simons with 30 points. Another double double from Deandre Ayton with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Matisse Thybule tried to give it a go but left the game with his sore ankle. Scoot Henderson had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes. The Blazers are back home tomorrow against the Clippers.

College Baseball:

After going 2 and 1 in their opening weekend of conference play, Oregon State remained ranked number four in the Baseball America Poll. They slid to number 2 in the Baseball Writers poll. They moved up a spot to number 2 in the Coaches poll and the D1 baseball dot com poll. The Beavers play Portland tonight. First pitch is at 5:30.

NFL:

The Seahawks  have shored up more needs on both sides of the ball through trades and free agency signings. Seattle introduced quarterback Sam Howell on Friday, and linebacker Jerome Baker signed a one year deal Saturday, coming over from Miami.

OSU WBB Hosts As 3 Seed...Ducks MBB Gets 11 seed

College Hoops:

The Oregon men were seeded 11th in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA tournament yesterday.  The Ducks played their way into the tournament earning the automatic bid as the surprise Pac 12 champion, following their upset of Arizona on Friday in the semi-final, and holding off Colorado in the Final on Saturday. The Pac 12 had three teams get to the Big Dance with Arizona and Washington State getting at large bids. Next the U of O travels to Pittsburgh to play number six seed South Carolina Thursday. We’ll have the game here on KBND.

The Trail Blazers’ short road trip ends today in Chicago. Portland struggled to finish Saturday in New Orleans and let one slip away to the Pelicans. The team’s injury list has Jerami Grant Doubtful with a hamstring strain, and Matisse Thybulle is Questionable with his ankle. Neither one played Saturday. The Bulls are fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and should give the Blazers a good run. Tip off is at 5.

College Baseball:

Oregon got the series win over Cal with a 10 to 3 victory at PK Park yesterday. They go to 4 and 2 in conference with two series wins, and 13 and 6 overall. The midweek loss to Portland last week may hurt their ranking chances this week.

The number 3 Beavers began conference play against Utah in Salt Lake City. They won the first two games of the series but yesterday couldn’t complete the sweep despite Travis Bazanna’s 5 for 6 effort with two homers. The Utes came away with a 14 to 10 win. It was the second loss of the season for Oregon State who opened the conference at 2 and 1. The Beavers play Portland tomorrow night.

College Softball:

Number 24 Oregon took their series with Utah with a 5 to 1 win yesterday, going to  4 and 2 in the conference.

Oregon State won their series against Arizona State getting them to 3 and 3 in conference.

Local:

Baseball: Summit plays Thurston and Gresham plays Redmond, 

Softball: Bend plays Canby.

Ducks MBB In Pac 12 Semi-finals...Portland Lose To NYK

College Hoops:

Oregon came back from a deep first half deficit and then held off UCLA to advance to the Semifinals in the Pac 12 tournament yesterday. 68 to 66 was the final with N'Faly Dante putting in 22. 

The Ducks play top seeded Arizona today. Coverage starts at 4:30. Tip off at 5 here on KBND.    

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost 105 to 93 to the Knicks last night. Deandre Ayton had 31 and 14 rebounds but it was a one man show for Portland. As many fans are starting to claim its tank mode for the lottery chances Anfernee Simons, and Jerami Grant both didn’t play. Scoot Henderson was limited to 26 minutes. The Blazers are back on the road. They’re in New Orleans tomorrow.

NFL:

The Seahawks have traded for quarterback Sam Howell, last season’s starter for the Washington Commanders. The Seahawks are giving up draft picks but will receive a couple of picks along with Howell. 

College Softball:

Number 25 Oregon is at Utah. First pitch at 3.

Oregon State is at Arizona State. Game 1 starts at 6 tonight.

College Baseball:

Oregon has Cal at PK Park for their conference home opener. First pitch is at 5.

The number 3 Beavers begin conference play against Utah in Salt Lake City. First pitch is at 5.

The Portland Timbers are on the road in Houston tomorrow afternoon. The Timbers have two wins and a draw in their first three matches of the MLS season.

The NWSL season starts this weekend. The Portland Thorns are at the KC Current tomorrow morning.

Blazers Big Comeback Win...OSU MBB Out Of Pac 12 Tourney

NFL:

Yesterday was the first day of the new league year with several more contract signings becoming official.

The Seahawks have signed former Oregon tight end Pharaoh Brown along with three other new players. Seattle is also the redhot rumor to trade for Chicago quarterback Justin Fields.

San Francisco lost out on signing veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks to the Dallas Cowboys. Reports yesterday had Kendricks signing with the 49ers but Dallas came it at the last minute apparently. The 9ers are looking to shore up linebacker after Dre Greenlaw’s ACL injury during the Super Bowl.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers beat Atlanta 106 to 102 last night. It was a big comeback at the Moda Center with the home team getting down by 16 in the first half before storming back in the third quarter to take the lead. It was close the rest of the way with Portland hanging on for their 19th win on the season. It was another huge game for Deandre Ayton with 33 points and 19 rebounds. Anfernee Simons led the team with 36. Jerami Grant didn’t play and Scoot Henderson had limited minutes.

College Hoops:

Oregon State is out of the Pac 12 tournament after losing 67 to 57 to UCLA. The Beavers couldn’t come back after a slow start in the first half. OSU’s season ends at 13 and 19 overall. They went 5 and 15 in the conference.

The Ducks play UCLA today. Coverage starts at 2. Tip off at 2:30 here on KBND. 

Earlier this week Oregon’s N'Faly Dante was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team as well as the All-Defensive Team. Jermaine Couisnard made the Second Team and Jackson Shelstad is on the All-Freshman Team.

NFL:

The second day of Free Agency brings more big changes. The Seahawks will be looking for a backup quarterback to presumed starter Geno Smith. Drew Lock has reportedly signed with the New York Giants. Lock was the backup for two years after coming to the team in the Russell Wilson trade. There have already been several rumors Seattle will select a quarterback in next month’s draft. 

San Francisco signed another Defensive Tackle. Jordan Elliot spent his first three seasons in Cleveland and will now be a 49er according to reports. The team is not expected to keep D linemen Arik Armstead or Chase Young.

College Football: 

Oregon held its Pro Day yesterday. Quarterback Bo Nix, Center Jackson Powers-Johnson, Running Back Bucky Irving, and Wide Receiver Troy Franklin have all had their names mentioned as possible first round picks.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers have Atlanta tonight at the Moda Center. Jerami Grant is Questionable with a hamstring, and Rayan Rupert is Questionable with an ankle. Jabarri Walker is out with a hip injury. Scoot Henderson doesn’t have a designation, at least. It’s been that kind of season where that’s good news. The Hawks have been scuffling at 29 and 35. Tip off is at 7.

College Hoops:

Oregon State opens the Pac 12 tournament this afternoon against UCLA. The Beavers are the 12th seed taking on the five seed Bruins. Tip-off from Las Vegas is set for 2:30

The OSAA Coaches polls for baseball and softball were released. In 5A baseball Summit is number three, Ridgeview is fifth and Mountain View is sixth. In 4A, Crook County is 7, La Pine is 9 in 3A.

In Softball 5A, Bend is ranked 2nd, Ridgeview is 8th. Crook County is 4A number 8,

 

Blazers Blown Out By Boston...OSU Baseball Bumps Up In Polls...

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost to Boston last night 121 to 99. There is a reason the Celtics have the best record in the NBA, but Portland had some good stretches. Four scorers reached double figures, but the short handed bench couldn’t keep up. Deandre Ayton had 22 and 15 to lead the Blazers. Atlanta visits next.

College Hoops:

Oregon State opens the Pac 12 tournament tomorrow afternoon against UCLA. The Beavers are the 12th seed taking on the five seed Bruins. The Ducks play the winner of OSU and the Bruins on Thursday afternoon. The Ducks need to make a run here to build a case for inclusion in the NCAA tournament. 

The Oregon State women are ranked 12th in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, up one spot after losing to Stanford in the tournament semi-final. College Basketball experts think the Beavers will be a three or four seed, and starting the opening round of the NCAA tourney in Corvallis.

College Baseball:

Oregon State moved up in the polls. They’re now 3rd from 6th in D1 baseball dot com, Perfect Game bumped them to 4th from 6th, they stayed 4th in Baseball America, and the coaches have them up two slots at number 3 in the country. The Baseball Writers did knock them back a peg, though, going from 5 to six. The Beavers begin conference play against Utah in Salt Lake City this weekend.

Oregon meanwhile is starting to creep up in the polls receiving votes in the writers’ and coaches’ but not quite cracking the Top 25.

NFL:

The Free Agency frenzy affected the Seahawks. They re-signed Defensive Lineman Leonard Williams and Tight End Noah Fant according to reports. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks is going to be signing with Miami, NFL sources say.

San Francisco has reportedly locked up a couple of edge rushers including Leonard Floyd coming off a career high 10 and a half sacks in Buffalo last season. The 49ers are expected to lose several players in free agency and may cut former Oregon Defensive Tackle Arik Armstead. 

Summit Boys BB Wins 5A...Beavers Baseball Sweeps...Pac 12 MBB Starts Wed

Local:

State Basketball tournaments finals from Saturday - 

The top-seeded Summit boys beat Wilsonville 52 to 50 on a buzzer beater to claim the 5A title. It was the first state basketball championship for the Storm boys. The Redmond Girls took 5th place.

In 4A, Madras boys beat Crook County in the 4th place game.

College Hoops:

Oregon State opens the Pac 12 tournament Wednesday afternoon against UCLA. The Beavers are the 12th seed finishing with a rough 5 and 15 record in this final season of the Pac 12 as we know it. Washington State is the number 2 seed, making a good run at the conference title in this last season. The Cougars get a bye into the second round. Oregon, finishing at 12 and 8 received the 4th seed, and a bye. The Ducks play the winner of OSU and the Bruins on Thursday afternoon.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers welcome Boston tonight coming off the big Overtime win against Toronto Saturday. Portland was led by Deandre Ayton’s season high 30 points, to go with 19 rebounds. It was Ayton’s first game back since suffering a hand injury. Scoot Henderson also returned to the line-up. The Blazers only played him 26 minutes, but he picked up 13 points and five assists. Now the NBA’s top team is at the Moda Center tonight. Tipoff against the Celtics is at 7:30

College Baseball:

Number six Oregon State beat Cal State Northridge yesterday to complete the series sweep and run their season record to 15 and 1. OSU begins the Pac 12 season this week..

Oregon got the win yesterday to begin the Pac 12 season with a series win at Arizona State.

College Softball:

Oregon took their series against number 17 Cal to start the Pac 12 season.

Oregon State lost yesterday to drop their series with number 21 Arizona.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers came back to beat NYCFC 2-1 Saturday in early season MLS Action.

At the Pac 12 Women’s tournament 4th seeded Oregon State beat Colorado in Double Overtime 85 to 79. The Beavers trailed by 12 in the 4th quarter and got down by 5 in the first overtime before rallying to advance to the Semifinal. They play Stanford at 5 today.

It’s the men’s regular season finale weekend. Oregon lost to Colorado 79 to 75. The loss dropped the Ducks into 4th place in the conference behind the Buffaloes…They play Utah tomorrow. Coverage starts at 3:30, tip-off at 4 on KBND.

Oregon State beat the Utes last night in a nice upset for the Beavs.

5A is at Linfield University in McMinnville. 

The 8 seed Mountain View Girls lost 53-40 to number 1 Silverton. Redmond, the 5th seed, beat number 4 Wilsonville 45 to 39. Now Redmond takes on Silverton in the Semi-final today at 6:30

The top-seeded Summit boys play Woodburn at 1:30 this afternoon in the Semi-finals.

In 4A at Forest Grove…the Madras girls lost to Henley, Madras boys lost to number 1 Cascade, and Crook County Cowboys lost to Marist Catholic.
