Preschool for All Tax Hike Postponed a Year
(Portland, OR) -- Multnomah County commissioners have decided to postpone a vote on the increase in the Preschool for All tax for one year. The program offers free preschool for all three- and four-year-olds in the county regardless of economic status. It's funded through a tax on high-earning residents, such as a one-and-a-half per cent tax on residents earning more than 200-thousand dollars a year. An increase of point-eight percent was scheduled to take effect this year, but yesterday commissioners unanimously decided to postpone the increase until next year.
