(Salem, OR) -- Governor Tina Kotek has signed an executive order directing Oregon to develop additional safety standards for artificial intelligence used by state agencies. The order calls for independent AI safety reviews and an assessment of whether advanced AI systems should be required to have an emergency shutdown mechanism. The state's chief information officer has 90 days to submit an implementation proposal. The order takes effect immediately and will be reassessed every three months.
