Horse Infection Increasing
Category: State News
(Salem, OR) -- There's an increase in three different types of diseases in horses caused by bacterial infection called Pigeon Fever. The Oregon Department of Agriculture says it can infect other animal species and, in rare cases, humans. ODA says the best prevention is from fly control methods around barns. Also, avoid sharing animal equipment before it's disinfected. Infected animals should be isolated. Suspected cases of Pigeon Fever must be reported to the ODA.
