Mariners Offense Fails To Support King Felix Performance

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to win their series against Cleveland today after dropping Game Two, 2-0.  Felix Hernandez pitched seven solid innings and tied Tom Seaver's MLB record for most consecutive starts of at least seven innings while allowing two or fewer runs.  But Seattle was held scoreless and managed only three hits.  The Mariners and Indians will wrap up their series this afternoon in Cleveland.
 

Report: Seahawks Sign Ex-Giants CB Terrell Thomas

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are reported to have signed free-agent cornerback Terrell Thomas.  ESPN quotes an anonymous source as saying the Hawks have agreed to terms with Thomas, who spent the past six seasons with the New York Giants.  His career has been marred by injuries, forcing him to sit out the 2011 and 2012 regular seasons with knee problems.  Thomas came back last year to record 67 tackles, one interception, one sack, and eight passes defended. 

Mariners Lose To Baltimore In Ten, 3-2

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners have today off before beginning a three-game series in Cleveland.  The Mariners suffered their seventh loss in their last ten games by falling in ten innings to the Baltimore Orioles, 3-2.  Starter Roenis Elias pitched five solid innings for the Mariners, but the Orioles pushed across the winning run in the top of the tenth.  Mike Zunino and Chris Taylor each had an RBI for Seattle.

Timbers Top Montreal, 3-2

(Montreal, QC)  --  The Portland Timbers are on a two-game winning streak, following their 3-2 victory in Montreal over the Impact.  Maxi Urriuti, Will Johnson, and Diego Valeri all scored for the Timbers.  Valeri scored in the 82nd minute to break a two-all tie.  Portland will play the Galaxy in Los Angeles this Saturday.

Bend North Little Leagues

Both Bend North Little League All-Star baseball teams will play for state championships.

Yesterday the North 10-and-under team blanked Clackamas, 12-to-nothing, and will play for the title Saturday at 10am at Skyview middle school in Bend.

The North 12-year old all-star team plays tomorrow night in Portland for the state banner.
 

Summit golfer- U.S. Women's jr. Amateur

3-time state golf champion Madison Odiorne of Summit high school was knocked out of the opening day of match play of the U.S. Women's junior championship yesterday.

In Flagstaff, arizona, Odiorne shot just 3-over par for 55-holes of championship play, but succumbed on the 19th hole playoff losing to Monica Dibildox of Mexico.

Odiorne, just 17 years of age, was the youngest golfer in the tourney which was won by 19-year LPGA star Lexi Thompson two years ago.
 

Ramirez Gets 10 Ks, But Mets Win

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners will wrap up their three-game series with the Mets this afternoon after losing to New York, 3-1.  Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez pitched seven solid innings in last night's game, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out ten.  Dustin Ackley had an RBI double in the fifth inning for Seattle's only run.  The rubber match in the series will start at 12:40 this afternoon at Safeco Field.

Seahawks' 2014 Schedule Rated One Of NFL's Toughest

(Renton, WA)  --  The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will have one of the NFL's toughest schedules in 2014.  The formula used to determine strength of schedule includes the win-loss records of opponents in 2013.  The Seahawks' 2014 opponents had a combined winning percentage last season of .561, which is sixth-highest.  Seattle will open the regular season on September 4th at home against Green Bay.

Cascade Cycling Classic

There’s an up and coming new ‘King of the Road’ you might say in the world of cycling as Serghei Tsvetkov claimed back-to-back ‘Cascade Cycling Classic’ GC Titles in Bend, Oregon.
The top-gun rider for the Jelly Belly Race Team won Stage-22 (Prineville Time Trial), and the Saturday night Bend Downtown Criterium to win his second straight Title.
Eric Marcotte, a Chiropractor in Scottsdale, Arizona of Team Smart Stop won his second road race stage by claiming Sunday’s finale, the Awbrey Butte Circuit.
Colin Joyce and Dion Smith finished 2nd, and 3rd, respectively.
Lauren Stephens of Dallas, Texas ran away with the Women’s GC Title as she won the first 3 races of the 35th Annual Bend Memorial Clinic sponsored event.
She finished 3rd in Stage-5 finale on Awbrey Butte to secure the Championship in Bend.

Mariners Victims Of Angels Rally

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will be back home tonight to begin a three-game series with the New York Mets, after losing two of three to the Los Angeles Angels.  Yesterday's 6-5 loss was a product of a two-run, ninth-inning rally by the Angels.  Kyle Seager launched his 16th home run of the season with two out as part of a three-run first inning for Seattle.  The Mariners and Mets will get started at 7:10 tonight.
 

Seahawks Single-game Tickets Go On Sale Today

(Seattle, WA)  --  Fans are camped out at CenturyLink Field for a chance to secure single-game tickets for Seahawks home games in 2014.  Those tickets are set to go on sale at ten o'clock this morning.  All season tickets are sold out for the upcoming season, but about one-thousand tickets will be sold for each home contest.  The Super Bowl champs will open the season at CenturyLink Field against the Green Bay Packers on September 4th. 

Mariners Back In Action Tonight

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The All-Star break is over, and the Seattle Mariners will open a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels tonight.  The M's are six-and-a-half-games back of the second-place Angels and eight games behind first-place Oakland to begin the second half of the season.  Rookie outfielder Stefen Romero has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will make the trip tonight to Anaheim.
 

Forbes: Seahawks 28th-most Valuable Sports Franchise

Forbes magazine's list of the most valuable sports franchises in the world has the Seattle Seahawks ranked 28th, down one spot from 2013.  The publication says the Seahawks' overall value is higher, up from one-point-oh-four-billion dollars last year to one-point-oh-eight-billion in 2014.  Champions League soccer club Real Madrid tops the Forbes list with a valuation of three-point-44-billion dollars.  The highest-valued American sports team is the New York Yankees at two-point-five-billion, good for fourth overall.
 

Hernandez Helps Lead AL To All-Star Win

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The American League will have home-field advantage in the World Series this season after a 5-3 win over the National League in the 2014 All-Star Game in Minneapolis.  Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez pitched a scoreless first inning for the AL, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts.  The Yankees' Derek Jeter went two-for-two and scored a run in his final All-Star Game.  Mariners closer Fernando Rodney walked one batter and struck out another in the eighth inning.

Hernandez To Start For AL In All-Star Game

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez will start for the American League in tonight's Major League All-Star Game in Minneapolis.  The 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner has an 11-and-2 record so far this season, with an ERA of two-point-12.  Also representing the Mariners in tonight's game will be Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, and relief pitcher Fernando Rodney.  The All-Star game is scheduled to start at five p.m.

Mariners Lose Out On Sweep Of A's

(Seattle, WA )  --  The Seattle Mariners are heading into the All-Star break with a series win over Oakland, but dropped the final game by a score of 4-1.  Chris Young allowed three runs on five hits over six innings for Seattle, who ended the first half of the season eight games behind the first-place A's.  Robinson Cano had an RBI in the first inning for the Mariners' only run.  The Major League All-Star game will be played Tuesday night in Minneapolis.

Timbers Fall To Sounders, 2-0

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Portland Timbers are winless in their last four games after losing to the Seattle Sounders, 2-0.  Clint Dempsey returned to league play following the World Cup and scored in the 71st minute for the Sounders.  Marco Pappa scored in the 86th minute to help give Seattle its second win over Portland in four days.  The Timbers will host Colorado Friday night.

Twins Swamp Mariners, 8-1

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are hoping to salvage a split in their four-game series with the Minnesota Twins tonight.  The Twins won last night at Safeco Field, 8-1, making the going tough for starting pitcher Roenis Elias.  Elias allowed seven runs on seven hits over three-plus innings.  Robinson Cano went three-for-five with an RBI for the Mariners.

Timbers Fall To Seattle, 3-1, In Overtime

(Tukwila, WA)  --  The Seattle Sounders are moving forward in U.S. Open Cup play after defeating the Portland Timbers, 3-1, in overtime.  The Timbers sent the game into extra time with a goal by Darlington Nagbe to tie the Sounders, 1-1.  Kenny Cooper scored on a header in the 111th minute and Marco Pappa tallied a goal five minutes later to make the difference for Seattle.  The Timbers and Sounders will play an MLS regular-season game in Seattle this Sunday night. 

Mariners Fall To Twins, 2-0

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle and Minnesota will continue their series tonight at Safeco Field after the Mariners dropped a 2-0 decision to the Twins.  Chris Young pitched seven-plus innings in last night's game, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out six.  The Mariners have had trouble scoring runs lately, tallying only six in the last five games.  The Mariners and Twins will get under way again tonight at 7:10.
 

Hernandez, Cano Selected For All-Star Game

(Chicago, IL)  --  Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez and second baseman Robinson Cano will represent the American League in the 2014 Major League All-Star Game.  Cano garnered the highest number of fan votes at his position, while Fernandez made the AL squad on a vote by the players.  Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon says another Mariner may also be chosen to play in the All-Star Game, which will take place in Minneapolis on July 15th.

Timbers' Chara Suspended For Match Against Seattle

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Chara will have to sit out next Sunday's match in Seattle.  Chara has racked up a yellow-card accumulation that's led to his suspension for the July 13th game against the Sounders.  He received his fifth yellow card of the season Friday night against the L.A. Galaxy when he knocked down Galaxy attacker Landon Donovan just outside the box.  The Timbers and Galaxy fought to a 2-2 draw.

Nadal, Sharapova Knocked Out Of Wimbledon

(Wimbledon, England)  --  A pair of big names are out at Wimbledon.  Men's second seed Rafael Nadal and women's fifth seed Maria Sharapova both lost fourth-round matches Tuesday at the All England Club.  No American men or women are left in the singles draw either.

U.S. Falls Short Against Belgium

(Salvador, Brazil)  --  The U.S. is out of the World Cup after yesterday's 2-1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16.  Belgium scored twice in extra time to take a 2-nil lead before Julian Green answered in the 107th minute.  The Stars and Stripes were aiming for their first quarterfinal appearance since 2002.

U.S. Faces Belgium Today In Knockout Round

(Salvador, Brazil)  --  The U.S. men's soccer team is set to begin the knockout stage of the World Cup today.  The Americans go up against Belgium in the single-elimination Round of 16 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.  A win would put the Stars and Stripes into the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.

Bucks Acquire Kidd From Nets

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  The Milwaukee Bucks are parting ways with head coach Larry Drew after acquiring Jason Kidd from the Brooklyn Nets.  The Bucks shipped the Nets a pair of second-round draft picks in the exchange.  Kidd went 44-and-38 in his first season with the Nets.
