Hernandez, Mariners Shut Down Tampa Bay

(St. Petersburg, FL)  --  The Seattle Mariners will be back home tonight, after completing a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay.  Seattle prevailed yesterday, 3-0, as Felix Hernandez won a pitching duel with the Rays' Chris Archer to pick up his eighth victory of the year.  A three-run home run in the ninth inning by Nelson Cruz made the difference for Seattle.  The Mariners will host a four-game series with Cleveland, starting tonight.

Trail Blazers 18th Highest NBA Salary

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers boast 38th highest out of 333 international teams of how much they spend on their players.  ESPN reports the Blazers rank 18th among 30 NBA teams.  Portland averages 4.6-million-dollars per player in annual salary.  The franchise's total player payroll is 69.1-million, which ranks 111th. 

Timbers Top United

(Portland, OR)  --  Will Johnson returned to the field to help Portland take down D.C. United 1-0 at Providence Park.  Johnson hasn't made an appearance since last September when he suffered a broken leg.  The Timbers scored early and hung on to improve to 4-5-and-4.  Gaston Fernandez turned a steal into an assist when he hooked up with Maximiliano Urruti in the fifth minute.  The Timbers visit the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. 
 

Ducks Tops In Athletic Department Revenue

(Eugene, OR)  --  The University of Oregon's athletic department revenue for 2013-14 is the most in the nation.  "USA Today" reports UO raked in over 196-million-dollars over the period.  The Ducks out earned more than 35-million in revenue ahead of second-place Texas.  The department's 83.5-million difference between its revenue and operating expenses of 110.4-million is also the widest among its peers. 

UO Softball Starts Women's College World Series Today

(Oklahoma City, OK)  --  The overall second-seeded Oregon Ducks softball team takes the field tonight in against Pac-12 foe UCLA in the Women's College World Series.  The Ducks are 51-and-6 overall, while the Bruins are 50-and-10 on the season.   Earlier this season the Ducks won two out of three against the Bruins in Los Angeles. 

Ducks Head To Missouri

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks baseball team will be in Missouri this weekend for the NCAA Tournament.  Oregon is the three-seed in the Springfield Regional, which will be hosted by top-seeded Missouri State.  The Ducks will take on the second-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes tomorrow with a 10:00 AM start time.  Canisius is the fourth-seed in the bracket out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  

Oregon State Preps For Texas

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The second-seeded Oregon State Beavers take on Texas in the Dallas Regional tomorrow in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.  It is the first-round of the double-elimination tournament.  Texas is the third-seed with the host and top-seed going to Dallas Baptist University.  The final spot in the region belongs to four-seed VCU. 

Mariners Escape With Win Over Tampa Bay In Ten

(Tampa, FL)  --  The Seattle Mariners are looking for a sweep after defeating Tampa Bay in ten innings, 7-6.  Kyle Seager hit two home runs in the game, including a grand slam that gave Seattle a three-run lead in the eighth.  The Rays rallied to tie the game, but Seager slammed the game-winner in the tenth.  Seattle and Tampa Bay will wrap up their three-game series today.

Ducks Net Notre Dame Transfer

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are adding Notre Dame transfer Matt Hegarty to their offensive line.  Hegarty underwent surgery in December 2012 to repair two undetected holes in his heart that he'd had since birth.  He recovered and appeared in 12 games in 2013 for the Irish before starting 11 of 13 games in 2014 at either guard or center.

Former Duck Mariota Hits Practice Field With Titans

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota experienced an up-and-down first day of organized team activities for the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.  Head coach Ken Whisenhunt says Mariota had some good, some bad plays in practice.  The Heisman Trophy winner threw an interception and lost a fumble.  Tennessee selected Mariota second overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Mariners Lose Series To Baltimore

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Seattle Mariners will continue their road trip tonight, when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays to begin a three-game series.  The M's fell to the Baltimore Orioles during a rain-delayed contest last night, 5-4.  A grand slam home run helped send Seattle starting pitcher J.A. Happ to the showers early.  Rickie Weeks had two RBI for the Mariners.

Mariota's Heisman To Be Displayed In Portland

(Portland, OR)  --  Portlanders will have a chance to see Marcus Mariota's Heisman Trophy up close.  The award will be on display at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland for three days, from June 5th through the 7th.  Mariota, who was picked second overall by Tennessee in this year's NFL Draft, is the first Oregon Duck to win the coveted Heisman Trophy.  Admission to the museum will be free during the three days the Heisman is on display, with Nike donating sponsorship.

Timbers To Face Sounders In U.S. Open Cup

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers will square off with the Seattle Sounders in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup.  The two soccer clubs meet on June 16th at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington for the 2015 Lamar Hunt Cup.  The Timbers and Sounders are the only MLS teams that must face an MLS opponent in their opening U.S. Open Cup game this year.

Blazers' Aldridge Named All-NBA Second Team

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge is being named to the All-NBA Second Team.  Aldridge, the free agent-to-be received 390 total votes, and 13 First-Team votes.  Despite tearing a ligament in his thumb, the 29-year-old averaged a career-best 23.4 points per game for the Blazers.

Thunder Meet Predators Tomorrow

(Orlando, FL)  --  The Portland Thunder are on the road tomorrow visiting the Orlando Predators.  Portland improved to 3-and-4 last weekend with a 63-47 victory over the L.A. Kiss.  Orlando is 4-and-4 overall.  Kickoff from the Amway Center at 4:00.

Timbers Visit Toronto FC Tomorrow

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are back on the pitch tomorrow on the road against Toronto FC.  The Timbers fell to 3-4-and-4 last week with a 3-1 loss at Houston.  Toronto is 3-5-and-1 overall in the Eastern Conference MLS standings.  Opening kick tomorrow from the Great White North at 2:00.

Report: Timbers Have Eighth-Largest Payroll In MLS

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers have the eighth largest payroll in Major League Soccer.  ESPN reports the Timbers are spending a combined 5.9-million-dollars on their players.  The figure puts them in the top half of Major League Soccer in terms of payroll.  Toronto FC at 20.5-million and the Los Angeles Galaxy at 15.4-million have the largest payrolls in MLS.
 

Mariners Top Baltimore, 4-2

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Seattle Mariners are back on the winning track after earning a 4-2 road victory over Baltimore.  Roenis Elias picked up his first win of the season for Seattle, allowing a run on six hits and striking out four.  Justin Ruggiano had a two-run homer in the fourth inning.  The Mariners and Orioles will wrap up their three-game series today.

Pac-12 Names Oregon's Todd Women's Athlete Of The Year

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon sophomore Jasmine Todd is the Pac-12 Track and Field women's athlete of the year.  Todd won the triple jump and placed second in the long jump at last weekend's Pac-12 Track and Field Championships.  She also won the 100 meters and placed fourth in the 200 while leading the Ducks to their seventh consecutive Pac-12 title.
 

Thorns Could Make Big-Name Signing

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Thorns could be on the verge of signing yet another big-name player.  Coach Paul Riley tells Oregon Live.com the team is in talks with a big-name player and hope they'll be able to announce the signing in the near future.  Riley would not give any details on the player that the club is pursuing or when she could be joining the team.

Sanders Donates Six-Million-Dollars For Stadium Project

(Eugene, OR)  --  University of Oregon alum Bob Sanders is donating six-million-dollars more to complete the Jane Sanders Stadium project.  The donation comes after receiving an initial donation of 10-million from Sanders to build a new softball stadium honoring his late wife Jane.  The Oregon athletics department started fundraising to meet the estimated project total of 16.5-million approved by the UO Board of Trustees in February.

Mariners Drop 9-4 Decision To Baltimore

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to even up their series with Baltimore tonight after losing to the Orioles, 9-4.  Nelson Cruz slammed a three-run homer for the Mariners in the third inning of last night's game.  Jimmy Paredes [[ pah-RAY-dess ]] homered and drove in four of the Orioles' runs.  Game Two of the three-game series will be played this afternoon in Baltimore.

Timbers Coach Talks Johnson Return

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers captain and midfielder Will Johnson is inching closer to returning to the field.  Johnson has been training with the Timbers, and has been playing with the USL affiliate T2 side as he recovers from a broken leg.  Timbers coach Caleb Porter says he wants to integrate Johnson into the MLS pace.  Portland hosts Toronto FC on Saturday.  No word if Johnson will be in uniform for the match.

Special Damian Lillard Sneakers Announced

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard and Adidas are releasing a special edition of the star's shoes.  Lillard tweeted a photo of D Lillard 1 shoes that match the pattern of a PDX Carpet.  The pattern is apparently popular among sneaker collectors.  Lillard introduced his first signature shoe with Adidas earlier this year.

Utah State QB Transferring To Oregon State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Utah State quarterback Darell Garretson says he's transferring to Oregon State.  Garretson will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Beavers after he sits out for a year, in accordance with NCAA rules.  The six-foot, 200-pound junior, who received his release from Utah State in April, told the "Oregonian" he plans to walk on in hopes of competing for a scholarship at Oregon State.  Garretson passed for eleven-hundred-40 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions in five games for the Aggies last season.

Seahawks DT Williams Diagnosed With Cancer

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams is scheduled to undergo kidney surgery, after being diagnosed with papillary type 2 cancer.  The Seahawks haven't released any further details.  Williams, who's a reserve lineman, says he's going to focus on his health and fighting the battle with a return to football as his ultimate goal.  Williams is entering his third NFL season after playing his college ball at Alabama.

Mariota Developing Bond With Green-Beckham

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon Ducks quarterback, now Tennessee Titan Marcus Mariota is already developing a bond with one of his new teammates.  ESPN.com reports Mariota and second-round pick, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, already text frequently.  The wideout says he told Mariota "every time you're in the weight room, make sure you bring me."

Portland Pilots Parting Ways With Baseball Coach

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland is parting ways with head baseball coach Chris Sperry.  The Pilots finished the 2015 season 12-and-42 overall.  Sperry ends his time at UP with a 347-601-and-1 record in 18 seasons.  Athletic director Scott Leykam says the Pilots would begin a national search for a new baseball coach immediately.

Blazers' Aldridge Undergoes Thumb Surgery

(Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers big man and free agent to be LaMarcus Aldridge is on the road to recovery following successful thumb surgery.  He tore a ligament in his left thumb in January and opted to play through it the rest of the season.  Aldridge still managed to score a career-high 23.4 points in 71 games this season for the Blazers.  The 29-year-old is set to hit the free agent market this offseason.  The Chicago Bulls selected Aldridge second overall in the 2006 NBA Draft, but he has played all nine NBA seasons with Portland following a draft day trade.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks open a big week against ranked opponents tonight in Corvallis against Oregon State.  The Ducks have a golden opportunity to make a statement about their worthiness for a spot in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.  Tonight's game is the rubber match for the 2015 Ducks-Beavers series.  First pitch from Goss Stadium at 7:00.

Mariners Shut Out Boston, 5-0

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are getting ready to hit the road after splitting their four-game series with Boston.  The Mariners shut out the Red Sox yesterday, 5-0, with James Paxton allowing only five hits over eight innings.  Brad Miller and Kyle Seager each got his fifth home run of the season.  Seattle will visit Baltimore for a three-game series beginning tomorrow.

Report: OKC's Donovan Interested In Blazers' Tibbetts

(Undated)  --  The Oklahoma City Thunder may be looking to add Trail Blazers assistant coach Nate Tibbetts .  Multiple outlets are reporting new Thunder head coach Billy Donovan has shown interest in Tibbetts among others.

Timbers Lose In Houston

(Houston, TX)  --  The Timbers surrendered two goals in the final 15 minutes in a 3-1 loss to the Dynamo in Houston on Saturday.  Fanendo Adi scored the lone goal for Portland, which slipped to 3-4-and-4 on the season.  The Timbers travel to Toronto FC this Saturday.

Ducks Sweep Utah

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  The Oregon Ducks swept their first Pac-12 series of the season over the weekend at Utah.  The Ducks beat the Utes 5-1 on Sunday for their sixth straight win overall.  They are now 34-and-22.  Oregon faces rival Oregon Sate tomorrow in Corvallis in a non-conference affair before closing out the regular season at home against UCLA this weekend.

Beavers Sweep Stanford

(Stanford, CA)  --  Gabe Clark homered as Oregon State crushed Stanford 12-3 to sweep the three-game series in northern California.  The Beavers improved to 36-14-and-1.

Seahawks' Irvin Says He Wants To Play In Atlanta

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin says he'll be playing for the Atlanta Falcons in 2016.  The Seahawks recently declined to pick up Irvin's fifth-year option for 2016, meaning he'll be an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season.  Irvin told "Black Sports Online" he wants to play for the Falcons after his Seattle contract expires.

Mariners Lose Opener To Boston, 2-1

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to bounce back tonight from their series-opening, 2-1 loss to Boston.  The Red Sox rallied in the ninth to score the winning run in last night's game.  Nelson Cruz went three-for-three and scored Seattle's only run.  The Mariners and Red Sox will play the second game of their four-game series tonight at Safeco Field.
 

Oregon State Nets JUCO RB

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State football is adding a three-star junior college running back to their roster next season.  Eastern Arizona standout Tim Cook took to Twitter to announce he is joining the Beavers.  Cook sorted out academic issues that caused his National Letter of Intent with Louisville to be invalidated.

Casey Interested In OSU AD Job

(Keizer, OR)  --  Oregon State baseball coach Pat Casey "might" be interested in the program's athletic director job.  He claims to be focused on the Beavers remaining games, but conceded he would be interested in the position.  Bob De Carolis announced his plan to resign June 30th after nearly 13 years overseeing Beavers athletics.

(Houston, TX)  --  The Portland Timbers look to win their second straight game tomorrow visiting the Houston Dynamo.  The Timbers defeated the Montreal Whitecaps 2-1 last week to improve to 3-3-and-4.  Houston is 3-4-and-4 overall.  Kickoff from BBVA Compass Stadium set for 5:30.

Armstead Expected To Sign Today

(Santa Clara, CA)  --  Former Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Arik Armstead is expected to sign with the San Francisco 49ers today.  Armstead is expected to sign so he is eligible to report to rookie minicamp.  The Niners selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.  He registered four sacks in three seasons in Eugene.

Blazers' Christmas Day Uniform Revealed

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers along with several other NBA teams unofficially released their Christmas Day uniforms.  ESPN.com provided the first look at the 2015 unis.  They feature a holiday card theme, with script chest wordmarks inspired by vintage Christmas cards and heavy use of a cream-based tone.

Moda Center Earns Gold Certification For Its Green Efforts

(Portland, OR)  --  The Moda Center is being rewarded for its efforts for being green.  The venue became the first existing sports venue in the world to be given a gold LEED certification for its effort to be environmentally friendly.  The Moda Center again received the gold designation under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Oregon Softball Opens Eugene Regional

(Eugene, OR)  --  After a record-setting season, the Oregon Ducks softball team hosts BYU today in the Eugene Regional.  The top seeded Ducks are 46-and-6 overall, and won the Pac-12 title.  Cheridan Hawkins takes the mound at Howe Field against the Cougars.  The winner between UO and BYU will play North Dakota State or Fresno State.

Report: Ex-Irish QB Not Coming To OSU

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Ex-Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson is not considering Oregon State as a potential transfer destination.  The "Oregonian" reports the Irish would deny a transfer to the Beavers.  Golson instead is considering more nationally prominent programs like Florida State, Florida Alabama, Texas, LSU and South Carolina.  Golson led the Irish to the 2012 BCS national championship game, and has thrown for 58-hundred yards, 41 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 25 career games.

Knee Injury Led To Ekpre-Olomu Draft Slide

(Eugene, OR)  --  The severe knee injury former Oregon star cornerback Ifo Ekre-Olomu suffered during Rose Bowl practice is to blame for his slide in the NFL Draft.  ESPN.com reports he projected as a potential first-round pick before requiring major reconstructive surgery.  The Browns eventually selected him with the 241st pick in the seventh round.  Ekre-Olomu should receive three-million-dollars from an insurance policy that Oregon took out to guard against him falling out of the top three rounds.
 

Five-Star DT Places Ducks In Top 10

(Powder Springs, GA)  --  Five-star defensive tackle Julian Rochester is placing Oregon in his top 10 of schools he would attend.  The 6-foot-5, 322-pound interior lineman Tweeted out his list, including Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Oregon and USC as his first nine choices.  The Georgia-native racked up an impressive 88 tackles and 11 sacks from the middle of the defensive line last season.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Mitchell Tolman hit a three-run homer and drove in five as Oregon cruised past Gonzaga 9-4 at PK Park.  Brac Warren picked up the win for the Ducks, who improved to 30-and-22 on the season.  The teams close out the brief two-game set tonight.  Meanwhile, Oregon State faces Portland in Salem tonight.

Timbers' Midfielder Diego Valeri Nominated For Top Goal

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers forward Diego Valeri is up for the MLS Goal of the Week.  Valeri scored what ended up being the game-winning goal in the 70th minute Saturday as the Timbers went on to beat the Montreal Impact 2-1 on the road.  The 29-year-old started his first game since tearing his ACL.  This is just the second time a Timbers player has been nominated for goal of the week this season.  Fanendo Adi was nominated in week two.

Oregon Softball Earns Number-Two Overall Seed

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks softball is one-of-four top seeds in the NCAA softball postseason.  The Ducks were given the number-two overall seed and will host BYU, Fresno State and North Dakota State at Howe Field.  The regional begins Thursday.  Oregon lost its top-ranking after falling to Arizona over the weekend.

Oregon State A.D. Stepping Down

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State University athletics director Bob De Carolis is stepping down.  De Carolis says his resignation will be effective June 30th, one year before his contract is scheduled to expire.  De Carolis was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2011, but an OSU athletic department spokesman says health was not a factor in his decision to resign.

Blazers' Matthews To Remove Boot Today

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews is continuing his recovery from a season-ending ruptured Achilles'.  Matthews is having his walking boot removed that he has worn while recovering from the surgery on March 11th to repair the injury.  Matthews transitioned from a post-surgery cast to the walking boot on April 16th, also ahead of schedule by five days.

Portland Thunder Return Home To Host Kiss

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Thunder return to the Moda Center for the first time in nearly a month this Saturday.  The Thunder host the winless L.A. Kiss, who are 0-and-7 overall.  Portland has lost three straight games and are 2-and-4 on the season.  Kickoff is set for this weekend at 7:00.

College Baseball Preview

(Undated)  --  Oregon and Oregon State clash for the last time in regular season action tonight in Corvallis.  It is a non-conference game and will be the fifth matchup of the season between the two squads.  The Beavers are 32-and-14 on the year while the Ducks sit at 28-and-22.

Ducks Offer Four-Star Athlete

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are offering four-star athlete Beau Bisharat a football scholarship.  Bisharat is a 6-foot-3, 203-pound running back and outside linebacker.  He has 22 offers including Oregon.   Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Michigan State, Oregon State, Utah and Washington all view him as a running back.

Hernandez Gets 2,000th Strikeout In Mariners' Win

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners have the day off after completing a sweep of the Oakland A's.  Felix Hernandez became the fourth-youngest player to reach two-thousand strikeouts in helping the Mariners defeat Oakland, 4-3, in yesterday's game.  Dustin Ackley drove in two of Seattle's runs.  The M's will host a two-game series against San Diego, starting tomorrow night.

Beavers' Moore Makes Cut For Golden Spikes Award

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State ace Andrew Moore is making the cut for the Golden Spikes Award.  Moore is one-of-30 players on the watch list for the award, which honors the nation's top college baseball player.  The junior right-hander is 4-and-2 with a 1.98 ERA this season.  He leads the conference with a .191 opposing batting average, and he is second in innings pitched and strikeouts.

Far West Classic Returns To Portland

(Portland, OR)  --  Oregon State and University of Portland are partnering to bring the Far West Classic basketball tournament back to Portland.  The 2015-16 Far West Classic Invite, a two-day doubleheader that will run December 18th and 19th at the Moda Center.  On December 18th  the Pilots will face Weber State before the Beavers play Cal State Fullerton.  The next day will feature Portland against the Titans, and then OSU against Tulsa.

Ducks Hoops Add Villanova Transfer

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon Ducks men's hoops are adding Villanova Wildcats transfer Dylan Ennis to their program.  ESPN reports Ennis is committing to the Ducks as a post-graduate transfer.  The 6-foot-2 guard averaged nearly 10 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest last season for the Big East-champion Cats.

Mariners Fall To Angels, 4-3

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Another late-inning loss is in the books for the Seattle Mariners.  An RBI double in the ninth inning made the difference as Seattle lost to the Los Angeles Angels last night, 4-3.  Kyle Seager had a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Mariners.  Seattle will be back home tomorrow night to open a three-game series with the Oakland A's.

Ducks Center Bell Has Foot Surgery

(Eugene, OR)  --  Ducks freshman center Jordan Bell is on the road to recovery.  Bell underwent successful surgery to repair a broken foot.  It is not known how Bell broke his foot, or the severity.  Oregon head coach Dana Altman expects Bell to be ready in time for next season.

Bradford Commits To OSU

(Oregon City, OR)  --  Oregon City High School standout Trevon Bradford is committing to Oregon State football.  Bradford took to Twitter announce his decision.  The wide receiver and kick return specialist is listed as high as the eighth-ranked prospect in the state.  OSU has four commitments in the class of 2016.

Winterhawks' Bjorkstrand Named WHL Player Of The Year

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Winterhawks forward Oliver Bjorkstrand is the Western Hockey League's Player of the Year.  Bjorkstrand becomes the third player in team history to win the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy.  He led all WHL players with 63 goals and 118 points during the regular season.

Ducks Rolled By Beavers

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State scored five runs in the third to cruise past Oregon 10-2 in non conference action from Corvallis.  The two teams played their mandatory three-game set back in April which counted for Pac-12 standings.  Billy King and KJ Harrison each plated three runs in the win while Jeff Hendrix collected two RBI.  Sam Tweedt picked up the win with five-and-two-thirds innings and allowing two unearned runs.  Josh Graham took the loss after allowing seven runs in three-and-two-thirds.  Jakob Goldfarb had four hits and an RBI in the setback.

Ducks, Beavers Resume Conference Play

(Undated)  --  The Ducks head to Washington State on Friday for a three-game set over the weekend.  Oregon has dropped two straight and are 9-and-12 in Pac-12 play.  Oregon State will welcome Utah to town this weekend for three games beginning at 5:35 on Friday.  The Beavers are in fifth place at 12-and-9.

Two Beavers Invited To Tryouts

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Two Beavers from the women's basketball team will have an opportunity to play at the National level.  Center Ruth Hamblin and guard Jamie Weisner have been invited to the Canadian Women's National Team's Phase One tryout as announced by Team Canada.  The 22-player tryout and training camp runs from May 10th to the 24th in Edmonton.  Following camp, the team will play in Europe for six-games.

Kearse Signs One-year Deal With Seahawks

(Renton, WA)  --  Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse will remain with the Seattle Seahawks for at least another year.  SeattlePI.com reports the restricted free agent has signed his tender offer, worth more than two-point-three-million dollars.  Under the terms of the offer extended in March, Seattle would have gotten a second-round draft pick as compensation if another team signed him to a contract and the Seahawks chose not to match it.  Kearse had a career-high 38 receptions for 537 yards and a touchdown last season.

Walk-off Homer Sinks Mariners

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The series is even between Seattle and Los Angeles, after a 5-4 win by the Angels.  Carlos Perez had a home run in the ninth inning to end the game.  Mike Zunino had two RBI, and Kyle Seager and Dustin Ackley each had one for the M's.  The Mariners and Angels will wrap up their three-game series tonight.
 

Timbers In Action Saturday

(Montreal, Quebec)  --  The Timbers are north of the border on Saturday when they take on the Montreal Impact.  Portland was shutout for the second consecutive match on Saturday in a nil-nil draw with Vancouver.  The Timbers are 2-3-and-4 on the season and in seventh place in the Western Conference.
 

Spinal Condition - Beavers' Hunt To Retire

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State football player Dashon Hunt is hanging up his cleats due to a spinal condition.  Hunt posted on Instagram he is being forced to retire because of the rare medical condition.  He was born with spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spine.  It's a condition similar to what prompted Florida's Rod Johnson to step away from the game three weeks ago.

Thunder Reassign Butler After Helmet Toss

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Thunder are reassigning defensive back Quincy Butler after he threw his helmet into the stands and struck a female fan.  The team calls Butler's conduct detrimental to the team and the Portland Thunder organization.  He was given a personal foul and ejected during the team's loss in Philadelphia.  After conversations with officials, he flung his helmet in frustration.
 

ESPN Ranks Ducks Third In Way Too Early Rankings

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are getting early respect in the latest ESPN college football rankings.  The Ducks check in at number-three in ESPN.com's post-spring Top 25 poll.  Oregon is ranked behind number-one Ohio State, which defeated the Ducks in the first College Football Playoff national championship, and number-two TCU.

Four-Star Recruit Names Ducks Top Of List

(South Jordan, UT)  --  Four-star defensive lineman recruit Langi Tuifua is naming Oregon his leading candidate of schools he wants to attend.  He had an unofficial visit during the Ducks' spring game on Saturday.  He also has an offer from Oregon State.  Tuifua considers himself part of a package deal with fellow Bingham High School star defensive tackle Jay Tufel.
 

Beavers Have Four Players Drafted

(Chicago, IL)  --  Meanwhile Oregon State had five players picked in the NFL Draft.  Quarterback Sean Mannion and cornerback Steven Nelson both went in the third round to the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs respectively.  Defensive end Obum Gwacham and safety Ryan Smith-Murphy were both drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the final two rounds.  Linebacker D.J. Alexander was a fifth round pick to Kansas City.

Five Oregon Players Picked In NFL Draft

(Chicago, IL)  --  Oregon had five players selected in the 2015 NFL Draft when it was all said and done.  Highlights include quarterback Marcus Mariota going second overall to the Tennessee Titans and defensive lineman Arik Armstead being picked 17th overall by the San Francisco 49ers.  Others included offensive tackle Jake Fisher being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round and cornerback Ifo Ekpre- =Olomu going in the seventh round to the Cleveland Browns.
 

Timbers Play Whitecaps ta a Draw

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a nil-nil draw at Providence Park on Saturday.  Portland now sits at 2-3-and-4 on the year after the tie.  The Timbers hit the road this weekend to face the Montreal Impact.

Winterhawks Fall To Rockets, Eliminated From Playoffs

(Portland, OR)  --  The Winterhawks' season came to an end with an 8-4 loss to the Rockets in Game Six of the Western Conference Finals from the Moda Center.  Chase De Leo scored two goals and assisted on another and Layne Viveiros lit the lamp as well.  Adin Hill gave up six goals on 39 shots in the season-ending loss.

Thunder Hammered By Soul

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Thunder dropped their third straight game losing to the Soul 52-35 in Philadelphia.  Kyle Rowley tossed for 169 and four touchdowns and Jared Perry finished with 74 yards and caught a pair of TDs as Portland dropped to 2-and-4.  The Thunder are off this week and will take on the LA Kiss on May 16th.
 

Ducks' Armstead Selected By 49ers

(Chicago, IL)  --  Defensive end Arik Armstead was the second Oregon Duck selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.  The San Francisco 49ers selected Armstead 17th overall.  He started all 13 games he played in during 2014 season, recording 46 tackles and two and-a-half sacks.

Mariota Selected Second Overall By Tennessee

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Tennessee Titans selected former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota second-overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.  Despite several rumors, the Titans say they are holding onto Mariota.  The Heisman Trophy winner passed for more than four-thousand-yards and 40 touchdowns, leading Oregon to the National Championship Game against Ohio State.

Report: Kelly Offered Massive Package For Mariota

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  Former Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly offered a King's Ransom in order to try and draft his former quarterback.  NFL Network reports Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles offered a package that included two first-round picks, a third-round pick, defensive lineman Fletcher Cox, cornerback Brandon Boykin, linebacker Mychal Kendricks, and quarterback Sam Bradford.  The Tennessee Titans did not bite, and selected Mariota second-overall.

The Thunder Hit The Road To Philly

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Thunder head to the city of "Brotherly Love" tomorrow to face the Philadelphia Soul.  The Thunder fell to 2-and-3 overall with a 64-45 loss to the San Jose SaberCats.  The Soul is undefeated at 5-and-0.  Kickoff from Philly tomorrow at 3:00.

Winterhawks Meet Rockets In Game Five Tonight

(Kelowna, British Columbia)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are on the road tonight for Game Five with the Kelowna Rockets in their Western Conference Finals.  The Rockets tied the series at 2-2 with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night in Portland.  Puck drops at 7:05.
