MLB

From the Major Leagues….The Seattle Mariners beat the Brewers over the weekend 2 out of 3 games at Safeco Field, but lost yesterday 7-6.
The Mariners have won 12 of their last 16.
Tonight, the M’s start a 3-game series hosting the Yankees televised on ROOT Sports, Channel 620 of your cable system.

In the National League the Giants ended a 10-game home stand being blanked by the Mets, 2-to-nothing.

SF heads to L-A tomorrow night to face the Dodgers and open a 3-game series with the teams tied for the N-L West division lead.
 

Bend North Little League All-Stars

The Bend North Little League All-Star team was eliminated from the World Series Championship bracket Saturday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Bend North was shutout 8-zip by Rhode Island ending their summer
All-Star Title run.

However, Bend will play Emilia, Italy this morning at 8am in an International Challenger Consolation game televised on ESPN-TV.

The North All-Stars summer record is 10-and-3.

Bend North is the first team ever in central, eastern, or southern Oregon history to make THE Little League World Series.
 

NFL Pre-Season

NFL preseason over the weekend saw the 49-ers get by the Broncos in Denver, 31-24.

The Carolina beat Tennessee, 26-16 and former Beaver quarterback Derek Anderson was 12-for-20 for 118 yards and a TD in the win, while Marcus Mariotta was 9 of 10 for 104 yards with 1-TD and 1-Interception.

Thursday night, the 1-and-1 Seahawks host Denver at 7pm and Friday night, San Francisco and new Head Coach Chip Kelly entertain the Packers. And, the Raiders greet Mariotta and the Titans Saturday at 5pm.

Portland Timbers

This week could end up being huge to the postseason hopes of the defending MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers, and just as huge for the Seattle Sounders.

Last night in Seattle, the Sounders score a 3-1 win over Portland.

Seattle enters the week five points behind Portland, with the Timbers currently holding down the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Timbers host Seattle Sunday.
 

Ducks' Volleyball To Open Regular Season Play

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon volleyball team will open regular season play this weekend with the 2016 Vert Challenge at Matthew Knight Arena.  The Ducks will face Texas on Friday and Florida on Saturday.  Oregon will be looking to improve on last season's 16-and-14 record.

Ducks Collect Six Medals

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)  --  Seventeen current and former athletes from the University of Oregon competed at the Rio Olympics, bringing home four gold medals and two bronze.  The gold medals were awarded to Ashton Eaton in the decathlon, Matthew Centrowitz in the 15-hundred meters, English Gardner in the four-by-100-meter relay, and Phyllis Francis in the four-by-400-meter relay.  The bronze medals were won by Galen Rupp in the marathon and Brianne Theisen-Eaton in the heptathlon.

Zwerver Joins OSU Staff

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Ron Zwerver is joining the Oregon State volleyball staff as an assistant coach.  Zwerver is a three-time Olympian who won gold in 1996 and silver in 1992 as a member of the Netherlands volleyball team.  He's spent the past 10 years coaching internationally.
 

Beavers Draw Pilots

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against the Portland Pilots at Lorenz Field on Friday night.  The Beavers open regular season play on Friday when they host DePaul.  OSU finished last season with a record of 8-9-and-1.

Ashton Eaton in Rio

Ashton Eaton is on pace to win another Gold Medal in the Decathlon at the Summer Olympic games in Ro. The world-record holder and defending Olympic champion has a triple-digit lead in points through five events yesterday.

Eaton was just 27 points off his world-record pace after four events but took a step back even after winning the 400 meters in 46.07 seconds, but missed crucial points with that time.

The Mountain View High graduate is on track to break the Olympic world record of 8,893 points set by Roman Sebrle (see-brole) 12 years ago.

Yesterday didn’t start out so good for Eaton who finished second in the 100-meter dash and had not trailed after the first event of a decathlon since his junior year at Oregon in 2009.

He then pushed on to win the long jump, shot put, high jump, and
400-meter run.

Eaton is trying to become the first decathlete to win back to back Gold medals since 1984. He will finish off the decathlon events this morning in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 15-hundred meter run.

Trail Blazers Sign Jerrett To Training Camp Contract

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have signed Grant Jerrett to a training camp contract.  Jerrett was originally selected by Portland in the 2013 NBA Draft but was traded to Oklahoma City on draft night.  He has spent the past three seasons playing for a trio of teams in the D-League, averaging over 14 points and six rebounds per game.  Jerrett will compete for the Blazers' final roster spot.

Beaver, Duck Named To Preseason All-Conference Team

(Undated)  --  Oregon State's Mary-Kate Marshall and Oregon's Lindsey Vander Weide have each been named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Volleyball Team.  Marshall, a junior from Coppell, Texas, was the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2014 for the Beavers.  Vander Weide returns to the Ducks for her sophomore season after becoming just the second freshman in Oregon history to be named to the All-Pac-12 Team.  Oregon is projected to finish fourth in the conference while the Beavers are projected to finish last.
 

Sounders Host Timbers

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers continue to prepare for their upcoming match against the Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Sunday night.  Portland is sixth in the Western Conference standings with 32 points at 8-9-and-8.  The Sounders trail the Timbers by five points with a record of 8-12-and-3.  It will be the first of back-to-back matches for the Cascadia Cup rivals.  Portland will host Seattle on Sunday, August 21st at Providence Park.

Bend North Little League

Today is the day, the little guys with the big hearts and dreams take to the national stage on ESPN TV today at 4pm.

The Bend North Little League 12-year old All-Star team will face Goodlettsville, Tennessee in their opening game of the The 70th Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Goodlettsville won the 2012 US World Series before losing to Tokyo in the International Title Series. However, that Roster has moved on and like Bend North features all new kids.

Bend North is the first team ever in central, eastern, or southern Oregon history to make THE Little League World Series.
 

Major Leagues

From the Major Leagues….The Seattle Mariners have won two out of three from the Angels in Anaheim with yet another 1-run decision, a 4-3 win last night.

But, Seattle gains no ground on the A-L West leading Texas Rangers who beat the A’s, 6-2.  Texas still leads the division by 6-1/2 games with 43 left to play.

In the National League the Giants will try to shake a 4- game losing streak hosting the Mets for a 4-game set in the Bay area. SF’s record since the All-Star break is a dismal 9-and-21.

The Dodgers lead the West by a game and half now over the Giants.

Bend North Little League

The Bend North Little League 12 year old All-Star Oregon State, and Northwest Regional Champions arrived at the Little League World Series early Monday morning in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Bend North captured the Northwest Regional Title beating Lynwood, Washington 5-to-1 Sunday to become the first team ever in central Oregon history to make THE Little League World Series.

The North Stars few out of L-A to Philadelphia, then bused to Williamsport arriving around 5am yesterday.

Bend North opens play in the 16-team tournament at 4 p.m. (PDT) Thursday against Southeast Region champion Goodlettsville, Tennessee.

All the World Series games are televised nationally on ESPN. The World Series 8-team, double elimination Tournament Championship concludes on the 28th.

Westcoast League Playoffs

The Westcoast League Collegiate summer baseball championship series will be decided tonight with a deciding third game for the Title.

The Corvallis Knights fell at home last night in game-2 losing to the Bellingham Bells, 5-to-2, which evened up the series, so tonight the Bells and Knights will decide it all.

Corvallis is gunning for their 4th WCL Title, and Bellingham aims for its second.

Bellingham beat Corvallis in 2014 for the Title, and the third game tonight at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium-Coleman Field will again match the Knights and the Bells.

And, the Westcoast League announced All-League honors yesterday, and 9 Bend Elks players earned Honorable Mention including George Mendazona, Jack Anderson, Patrick Flynn, Derek Champman, Lucas Wolfe, Ezra Steinberg, Jack Strunk, Tommy Lane, and Riley Newman.

Ducks' Allen Advances To 110-Meter Hurdle Semifinal

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)  --  University of Oregon wide receiver Devon Allen is advancing to the semifinals in the 110-meter hurdles.  Allen tied for first in the preliminary heat.  He played in six games last season for the Ducks and caught nine passes for 94 yards.

From the Big League diamond…

The Seattle Mariners continue to sizzle as the M’s beat the L-A Angels in Anaheim, 3-2.  

The Oakland A’s were defeated by the Rangers in Texas, 5-to-2.

In the National League…San Francisco lost to Pittsburgh last night in the bay area, 8-5.

The Dodgers begin a 7-game swing out east in Philadelphia tonight.
L-A has lost 3 of their last 4 and trail the Giants by just 1 1/2-games for the
N-L West lead.
 

Felix Settles For Silver In 400m

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)  --  American Allyson Felix is a silver medalist in the 400-meter race.  Felix had to settle for second place after Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas won on a dive at the finish line.  Oregon's Phyllis Francis finished fifth.

Blazers Getting Into Coffee Business

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are getting into the coffee business.  The team is collaborating with Stumptown Coffee on a special, Rip City-inspired blend.  Blazers coach Terry Stotts received a taste test on the Rip City Report podcast.

Bend North Little League All-Stars

The Bend North Little League All-Star team is headed to THE Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Bend North captured the Northwest Regional Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon on national television on ESPN by beating Lynwood, Washington, 5-to-1 and punching their ticket to the big Show.

The North All-Stars lost the opening game of Regionals to Lynwood, a team that also beat Bend in the 2014 Regional Final, and faced elimination for 3 straight days beating the Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and State Champions by a combined run total of 33-to-2.

Bend North, the Oregon State Champs are 12-1 in post season play and
Face the Southeast Regional Champion, Goodlettesville of Tennessee, in its World Series opening game on Thursday at 4pm in Williamsport.

All the World Series games are televised nationally on ESPN. The World Series 8-team double elimination Tournament Championship concludes on the 28th.

West Coast Collegiate League

The Corvallis Knights moved to within one win of their fourth West Coast Collegiate League championship by blanking Bellingham 4-0 Saturday night in Game 1 of the Best of Three WCL Championship Series.

The Title Series continues tonight with Game 2 in Corvallis at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium. A decisive Game 3, if necessary, would also be in Corvallis tomorrow night.

Corvallis (44-20) has now won three consecutive playoff games, and 13 of its last 14 games overall.

Bend, who was eliminated from postseason play won the WCL Crown last summer, while Bellingham won the Title in 2014 and Corvallis claimed their last League Championship in 2013.

MLB

From the Big League Scoreboard…the red hot Seattle Mariners continue on a roll as they have won 8 of their last 9 games and beat the A’s in Oakland yesterday, 8-4.

The M’s move on to Anaheim for a series against the Angels.

In the National League….The Giants continue their 10-game home stand as San Francisco lost a lead to Baltimore and were nipped by the Orioles, 8-7 Sunday.

Giants host the Pirates starting tonight with a 1-game lead over the L-A Dodgers who head to Philadelphia tonight.

NFL Preseason

On the gridiron…NFL Preseason…The Seahawks beat the Chiefs Friday night, 17-16 in Kansas City, and host the Vikings Thursday evening.

The Raiders beat Arizona, 31-to-10, and the SF Forty-Niners with new Head Coach Chip Kelly lost at home to the Houston Texans, 24-13.

Oregon Alumna Theisen-Eaton Wins Bronze Medal

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)  --  Oregon alumni Brianne Theisen-Eaton claimed a bronze medal in the heptathlon on Saturday.  She becomes the first Olympic women's medalist in an individual event for the Ducks since 1988.  The 27-year-old graduated from the University of Oregon in 2011.

Portland Timbers

The Portland Timbers remain winless on the road this season as Portland was shutout 2-zip by D-C United in the Nation’s Capital Saturday night.

The Timbers, 8-9-and-8 on the season will get another chance to grab its first road win this coming Sunday eveing when they play in Seattle against the Sounders at Century Link Field.

Beavers Win Exhibition Opener

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State men's soccer team earned a 3-1 exhibition win over the University of British Columbia on Friday at Paul Lorenz Field.  OSU was up 2-1 at the half.  The Beavers host Portland State in an exhibition match to close out the preseason on Friday.  OSU opens the regular season on Friday, August 26th, against DePaul.

Portland State Football To Face Oregon

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State Vikings will travel to Autzen Stadium on September 8th, 2018, to face the Oregon Ducks.  The game will mark the seventh straight season PSU has faced a Pac-12 opponent.  The Vikings take on Washington State this season and Oregon State in 2017.

Olympics

The Summer Olympics continue in Rio and the United States leads with 11 Gold medals and 32 overall. China remains close behind with 10 gold and 23 overall.

Meantime…Carmelo Anthony, a 4-time Olympian scored a game high 31 points Wednesday as the defending Olympic basketball champions beat Australia 98-88 to extend their overall winning streak to 20 games.

Team USA remains on top of the Group-A standings with a 3-0 record.

The Games are televised on NBC and NBC Sports Channel and run for another 11 days.

Little Leaguers

The Bend North Little League All-Star team stayed alive beating Anchorage, Alaska Tuesday morning 6-2 in an elimination game at the double-elimination, 6-team N.W. Regional tournament in San Bernardino.

Yesterday afternoon, North once again faced elimination and smashed the Montana State Champions, 15-to nothing.

Bend North, the Oregon State Champs are 10-1 in post season play and advance to the Regional Semifinals tomorrow at Noon and will face either Idaho or a rematch with Lynwood, Washington

The championship game is set for noon Saturday, and the winner travels to the Little League World Series, Aug. 18th  in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

MLB

On the Big-League Diamond…The Mariners 10-game home stand came to a close last night at Safeco Field as the M’s beat the Detroit Tigers, 3-1

Seattle pitcher Felix Hernandez no decision allowing only 1 run and striking out 8.

Seattle has won 6 straight and won 8 of the 10 at home to improve to
60-53. The Mariners still trail the Rangers for the A-L West lead by 7-games

Seattle is off today, but will open a 3-game series in Oakland against the A’s tomorrow night. Oakland has won 3 straight beating the Orioles again last night, 1-0.

In the National League….The Giants blank Miami, 1-zip and the Dodgers lose at home to the Phillies, 6-2. SF leads LA by 1-game for the N-L West lead.

Westcoast League Playoffs

The Westcoast League summer Collegiate Championship 3-game Series is set and will begin Saturday night.

The Corvallis Knights will meet the Bellingham Bells for the Title with Corvallis claiming home field advantage hosting Games 2, and 3 if necessary.

Corvallis swept Yakima beating the Pippins in Washington Tuesday night, 4-3 and scoring a 7-3 win last night in Corvallis at OSU’s Goss Stadium.

Game one of the Title series is in Bellingham Saturday night.

Bellingham swept Victoria 2-games to none clinching the Northern Division Pennant last night with a 12-1 win over the Harbour Cats.

Bend won the WCL Crown last summer, while Bellingham won the Title in 2014 and Corvallis claimed the Championship in 2013.

Ducks QB Battle Continues

(Eugene, OR)  -- Dakota Prukop and Travis Jonsen are going head-to-head in the battle for Oregon's starting quarterback job.  Head coach Mark Helfrich has said the two are even at this point, though Prukop has more leadership experience.  The Ducks open the regular season at home on September 3rd against UC-Davis.

Timbers Visit DC United Saturday

(Washington, DC)  --  The Portland Timbers hope to run their win streak to three on Saturday against the DC United.  Portland has 32 points in the standings, good for sixth in the Western Conference.  The match begins Saturday at 4 p.m. at RFK Stadium.

Beavers Off Today, Scrimmage Tomorrow

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State Beavers football team gets today off after their first two fully-padded practices of the year.  An open scrimmage takes place on Friday at Reser Stadium.
 

Ducks Continue Practice

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks continue to gear up for the 2016 college football season.  Practice continues in Eugene, with the first scrimmage scheduled for early next week.  Oregon opens the regular season at home on September 3rd against U.C. Davis from Autzen Stadium.

Ducks In The NFL

(Undated)  --  Former Ducks are littered across in NFL training camps, gearing up for the 2016 season.  Tennessee Titans second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota is unhappy with his unacceptable play in his team's scrimmage.  Meanwhile, the 49ers have elevated defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to the first team.

Timbers Injury Update

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will likely be without Liam Ridgewell and Alvas Powell in their upcoming match.  Powell injured his ankle on Sunday against Sporting KC, while Ridgewell has missed three straight contests with a calf injury.  Portland visits DC United on Saturday.

M's Take Down Tigers In Extras

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mike Zunino connected for an RBI sac-fly in the bottom of the 15th to give the Mariners a 6-5 win over the Tigers at Safeco Field.  Seattle went into the frame trailing by one before Kyle Seager scored Nelson Cruz with a single.  Seager also had a three-run homer in the eighth that tied the game at four.  He finished 3-for-7 with four RBI.  Seattle has taken the first two of the three-game series.

Mariners Take On Tigers Again Tonight

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners take on the Tigers tonight in the finale of their three-game series at Safeco Field.  Felix Hernandez will start for Seattle.  He's 6-and-4 with a 3.55 ERA.  The Tigers send Justin Verlander to the mound.  He's 12-and-6 with a 3.52 ERA.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

Seahawks Getting Set For Preseason Football

(Renton, WA)  --  Preseason football is just around the corner for the Seahawks.  The team will be back on the practice field today at training camp.  Seattle opens exhibition play this Saturday on the road at Kansas City.  The Seahawks kick off the regular season September 11th hosting the Dolphins.

Olympics

Today is Day-4 of the Summer Olympics in Rio…and the United States leads with 19-medals, 6 better then China.

Both the US and China have won 5-gold medals so far.
Japan, Russia, Italy and Australia follow…

Both the Mens and Women’s basketball teams scored big wins…the women led by Diana Turasi (terr-oss-see) routed Spain, 103-to-63, and the US Men led by Kevin Durant beat Venezuela, 113-69.

The Games are televised on NBC and NBC Sports Channel.
 

Little Leaguers

Bend North Little League All-Star team faces elimination this morning in  San Bernardino at the NW Regional Tournament after losing their opening game last night to Washington, 8-to-2.
Washington All-Star pitcher Cam Jordan struck out 11 Bend hitters in 5-innings of work, after his team racked up 5-runs on North in the opening frame.
The North stars face Anchorage, Alaska in a loser out game at 830am.
It’s the first loss for Bend North in the postseason since winning the District and State titles going 8-and-0.

Westcoast League Playoffs

The Bend Elks finished Westcoast League play Sunday night and the 2015 League Champions were closed out of the Playoffs which begin tonight with the Best of 3-games Divisional Series.
In the South, Yakima will entertain the Corvallis Knights while Bellingham entertains Victoria.
The two Divisional winners face off beginning Saturday for the 2016 Westcoast League Championship 3-game series.
 

Major League BB

In Big League baseball…the Seattle Mariners are on a roll as they blanked the Detroit Tigers last night at Safeco Field, 3-zip.

It was Seattle’s 4th straight win and the 7th in the last 10-games, but the Texas Rangers scored a 1-run win over Colorado, so Seattle still 7-games back of the Rangers for the A-L West division lead.

The Oakland A’s finally got a win beating the birds of Baltimore, 3-2 in Oakland. It’s only the A’s third win in the last 10-games.

In the National League….The Giants battled it out in Miami and net the Marlins with an 8-7 win in 14-innings. The Dodgers won also, so SF still just 1-game up on L-A in the N-L West.
 

Oregon Begins Prep For Season

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are gearing up for the 2016 college football season.  The Ducks kicked off practice on Monday, and held a media day.  Oregon hosts U.C. Davis to open the regular season on September 3rd from Autzen Stadium.

Ducks In The NFL

(Undated)  --  It was a busy day in the NFL for former Oregon Ducks.  Tough news for both Bears center Hroniss Grasu and Dolphins Ifo Ekpre-Olomo, who both suffered season-ending knee injuries.  Dolphins linebacker Dion Jordan was cleared to practice after serving a year long drug suspension.

Portland State Football Ranked 12th

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State football program is checking in at 12th in a preseason top-25 poll.  The Vikings earned the ranking in the FCS Coaches' poll.  PSU is trying to build off a surprising 2015 season.  The Vikings open the season September 3rd against Central Washington at Providence Park.

Olympics

The Summer Olympics kicked off Friday in Rio with the Opening Ceremonies and after 2-days the United States teams have claimed 12 medals, including three Gold with two in swimming, and one in shooting.

The Games are televised on NBC and NBC Sports Channel and run through the 21st.

Bend’s Ashton Eaton, the defending Olympic Decathlon Gold medalist, begins competition one week from Wednesday.

The Bend Elks closed out the Westcoast League season yesterday in Gresham with another 1-run loss falling to the Greywolves, 6-5.

The Elks finish second half play 10-17 in the South Division, and overall Bend finishes with a 21-32 record.

The Westcoast League Playoffs begin tomorrow and the Championship Series starts Saturday.

MLB

The M’s have won 5 of their last 7, including sweeping the Angels over the weekend pushing their record to 57-and-53 while honoring Ken Griffey, Junior who was inducted in to the Hall of Fame last week.
The Mariners take over second-place in the A-L West and trail Texas by 7-games for the division lead.

Elsewhere…the losses mount for the A’s who have dropped 8 of their last 10 and were swept by the Cubbies this past weekend.

In the National League….The Giants continue to struggle as they were blanked in DC yesterday by the Nationals, 1-zip. SF moves on to Miami tonight with only a 1-game lead over the Dodgers in the N-L West.

The Portland Timbers blanked Sporting Kansas City yesterday in the Rose City, 3-nill. Timbers travel to D-C United Saturday in the nation’s capital

College Football

The first College Football Coaches Poll released, and it’s Alabama number one, followed by Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida State and Ohio State the Top-5.

Stanford is tabbed 7th…USC 17th followed by the Huskies, and Oregon is ranked 22nd. The Ducks begin Fall camp today and open the season Saturday, September 3rd here on Newstalk KBND hosting Cal-Davis.

Central Oregon is represented in Brazil

The Summer Olympics kickoff today in Rio with the Opening Ceremonies at 430pm Pacific Time.  The Games are televised on NBC and NBC Sports Channel and run through the 21st.

Bend’s own Ashton Eaton, the defending Olympic Decathlon Gold medalist, begins competition on the 17th and the final events on the 18th.

Eaton is trying to become only the third Decathlete in history to win back-to-back Gold medals.  Bob Mathias repeated in 1952, and Daley Thompson in 1984.

Bend Elks

The Bend Elks close out the Westcoast League season this weekend in Gresham with a 3-game series starting tonight against the Greyhawks.

The Elks are 9-and-15 in second half play in the South Division of the
W-C-L, and 20-and-31 overall and will finishe the season Sunday night and did not qualify for the Playoffs as the 2015 Westcoast League Champions.

MLB

5-games for the Seattle Mariners who ended a 4-game series with the Red Sox last night at Safeco Field. 2-2 tie thru regulation, and the Sox win it 3-2 in 11-innings.
Seattle continues the home stand tonight as they welcome the Angels to town for 3-games.

Beaver Football is at Summit High School

The Oregon State Beaver football teams begins workouts tomorrow in Bend at Summit High School, and the public is invited to watch for free beginning at 10am. OSU will conduct its practices at Summit through Wednesday before returning to Corvallis. Tonight, Beaver fans will gather at Deschutes Brewery downtown for an informal gathering from 5 until 8pm. The Beavers open the season on Thursday, September 1st at Minnesota

OSU Football Names Team Captains

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team has selected its team captains for the upcoming season.  Victor Bolden Junior, Devin Chappell, Darell Garretson, Sean Harlow, Caleb Saulo and Dustin Stanton were each selected as captains by members of the team.  The Beavers open the season against the University of Minnesota on Thursday, September 1st.

Oregon Men's Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon men's basketball team has released its non-conference schedule for the upcoming season.  The Ducks will host Boise State, Alabama, Montana, and Fresno State.  They'll also spend Thanksgiving week in Hawaii while participating in the Maui Invitational.  A pair of non-conference games will be added to the schedule at a later date.  Oregon is coming off a 31-and-7 season that concluded with an appearance in the Elite Eight.

Seahawks DL Bennett Removed From Practice

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says "passion" is what got defensive lineman Michael Bennett kicked out of practice.  SeattlePI.com reports the incident started yesterday with Bennett jumping offsides during a scrimmage and getting into a scuffle with an offensive lineman.  After being restrained by teammates, Bennett was removed from the field.  Carroll says the blowup is an example of how passionate the team is during training camp and how badly they want to play the game.

Timbers Prep For SKC

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers continue to prepare for their upcoming match against Sporting Kansas City at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.  The two teams met last weekend at Children's Mercy Park with SKC prevailing, 1-nil.  Portland is in seventh place in the Western Conference with 29 points at 7-8-and-8.

Bend Elks

The Bend Elks with another day off today before closing out the Westcoast League season this weekend in Gresham with a 3-game series starting tomorrow night against the Greyhawks.
The Elks are 9-and-15 in second half play in the South Division of the W-C-L, and 20-and-31 overall.

Mariners Defeat Red Sox, 3-1

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners will try to win their four-game series with Boston tonight, after defeating the Red Sox, 3-1.  Nelson Cruz, Mike Zunino, and Adam Lind all hit solo homers for Seattle.  Hisashi Iwakuma earned his 12th victory of the year, pitching seven-and-a-third innings of shutout ball.  The Mariners and Red Sox will finish the series tonight at Safeco Field.  
 

NFL

NFL Training Camps continue day-4 as the Hall of Fame game is set for Sunday in Canton, Ohio when the Packers take on the Colts.

Yesterday, Chip Kelly and the 49-ers awarded star Linebacker Navarro Bowman with a 4-year contract extension worth $44-million. $20-million is guaranteed. The total deal is worth $67-million dollars as he had 3-years remaining on his previous contract.

Bowman is 28 and was All-Pro last year after suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2014.

Chip Kelly and Niners first Preseason game is one week from Sunday hosting the Houston Texans.

No charges will be filed against former Oregon State and Seahawks safety Brandon Browner in connection to an alleged assault last month in Los Angeles.

According to the L-A district attorney's report, the alleged victim, Browner’s girl friend’s Dad is now non-desirous.

Browner, 32, re-signed with the Hawks this offseason.
Seattle kicks off preseason on the 13th in Kansas City.

OSU Golf Hires Kerkvliet

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State women's golf team has added Kelly Kerkvliet to its coaching staff as an assistant coach.  Kerkvliet was a member of OSU's women's golf team from 2001 to 2005.  She previously served as an assistant coach for the Beavers during the 2013-2014 season.

Timbers Edge C.D. Dragon

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers edged C.D. Dragon, 2-1, thanks to Diego Valeri's goal in the closing minutes of the match at Providence Park.  Valeri also assisted on Jack McInerney's first half goal to give Portland a 1-nil halftime lead.  The Timbers jumped to the top of Group B in the CONCACAF Champions League with the win.  Portland will host Sporting Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.

Vikings Open Fall Camp On Tuesday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State football team will open fall camp on Tuesday, August 9th.  The Vikings will look to improve on last year's 9-and-3 record.  PSU hosts Central Washington to open the season on Saturday, September 3rd.

Steel To Face Rattlers In Playoffs

(Portland, OR)  --  The Steel face the Rattlers in the opening round of the Arena Football League Playoffs at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Saturday night.  Portland is coming off a thrilling 48-46 win over the LA Kiss to finish the regular season with a 3-and-13 record.  Defensive Back Sergio Gilliam was named the Defensive Player of the Week after recording five tackles and two interceptions against the Kiss.

Bend Elks face the end of their season

Final home game of the summer last night at Vince Genna Stadium with the Bend Elks entertaining North Puget Sound.

The Elks battled back to tie the game 4-4 in the 8th inning off George Mendazona’s double, but in the 9th, a Bend error opened the door for North Sound to notch a 5-4 win.

Bend has been involved in 15 one-run decisions this summer out of 54 games, and have only been on the upside, 5-times.

The Elks closes out the Westcoast League play this weekend in Gresham with a 3-game series starting Friday. The Elks will not get the chance to defend the Westcoast League Title as Bend was eliminated from playoff contention 4-days ago.
 

Duck Football is coming

Kickoff to College Football season just 29-days away and The Ducks signed a deal to play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a home-and-home series in 2023 and 2024.

Other already-announced nonconference series in the future are at home against Nebraska next fall, then in Arlington, Texas, against Auburn in 2019. Plus, Oregon has a home-and-home against Ohio State in 4 years.

SI Adds Ducks' Freeman To All-American List

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon running back Royce Freeman is being added to another All-American team.  Sports Illustrated named Freeman to its second team, and was the only Ducks player to earn the honor.  The junior rushed for over 18-hundred-yards with 17 rushing touchdowns last season.  Oregon opens its season at home against UC Davis on September 3rd.

Major League BB

On the major league Scoreboard…the Seattle Mariners repaid the favor to the Red Sox after suffering a 1-run loss Monday night as the M’s scored a 5-4 win over Boston at Safeco Field, last night.

The Mariners trailed 4-zip going to the bottom of the 8th when Seattle erupted for 5-runs, and held off the BoSox for the win.

Catcher Mike Zunino and Robinson Cano each belted home runs in the 8th for the win. Cano’s 3-run dinger was the game winner.

Game-3 of the 4-game series with Boston tonight at 7pm.
The Oakland A’s suffered their 4th straight loss falling to the Angels in Anaheim, 5-4. Oakland traded star outfielder Josh Reddick to the Dodgers Tuesday.

In the National League….The Giants begin their 9-game eastcoast road trip and drop another game as the Phillies come up with a 5-run 8th inning to beat San Francisco 13-8.   

The Giants made a trade yesterday sending former Oregon State Catcher Andrew Susac to the Milwaukee Brewers in a 3-team deal to get veteran pitcher Matt Moore to help bolster the Giants pitching staff.

Providence Park Could Add 3500 Seats

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are looking at the possibility of adding more than three-thousand seats to Providence Park.  The "Oregonian" reports the team is considering a new expansion plan that would add 35-hundred seats to the stadium, which has a present capacity of more than 21-thousand.  There's high demand for Timbers season tickets, and the waiting-list currently contains 13-thousand names.  Timbers President of Business Mike Golub says the team wants to expand Providence Park in a way that wouldn't adversely affect the current fan experience.
 

Timbers Likely Without Valentin, Zemanski This Week

(Portland, OR)  --  Injuries could sideline Zarek Valentin and Ben Zemanski from the Timbers' lineup.  Valentin underwent an MRI on his knee, while Zemanski is dealing with a groin injury.  The club also waived defender Anthony Manning.

Mariners Lose To Cubs In 12, 7-6

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Seattle Mariners will be back home tonight, after seeing a six-run lead evaporate in a 12-inning loss to the Chicago Cubs.  Seattle opened their lead  on the strength of two-run homers by Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, and Dae-Ho Lee.  But Chicago earned the win when Jon Lester drove in Jason Heyward with a sacrifice bunt in the 12th.  The Mariners will start a four-game series with Boston tonight at Safeco Field.

Timbers Fall To SKC

(Kansas City, KS)  --  Jacob Peterson scored the lone goal of the match as the Timbers fell to Sporting Kansas City, 1-nil, at Children's Mercy Park.  Portland has dropped two straight after being unbeaten in its previous nine matches.  The loss dropped the Timbers to 7-8-and-8 on the season with 29 points.  The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at Providence Park, but the Timbers will first host the C.D. Dragon in a CONCACAF match on Wednesday.

Volcanoes Down Hops

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes scored all five of their runs in the second inning to easily down the Hops, 5-1, at Ron Tonkin Field.  Hillsboro took the early lead on an RBI single by Luke Lowery in the first inning.  Junior Garcia took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings.  The Hops took two of three in the series to improve to 23-and-21 on the year.  The team opens at five-game series at Everett on Thursday.

Sources: Seahawks DE Clemons To Retire

(Renton, WA)  --  Veteran defensive end Chris Clemons is expected to retire.  Clemons originally joined the Seahawks via a draft-day trade in 2010.  He spent four seasons in Seattle before being released in 2013 and spending the past two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Clemons re-signed with the Seahawks in the offseason on a one-year deal.

Steel Wrap Up Regular Season Tonight

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Steel face the LA Kiss in the final game of the regular season tonight at the Moda Center.  Portland is 2-and-13 on the year.  LA is 7-and-8.  The Steel are coming off a one-point loss to Tampa Bay.  A loss to the Kiss would give Portland the worst record in the league.
