Wide receiver Silas Bolden announced Monday he’s leaving Corvallis. The junior caught 54 passes for 746 yards and five touchdowns last season… and had a punt return TD.  He suffered a hamstring injury in the Sun Bowl loss against Notre Dame.

Ducks Win Fiesta Bowl...Blazers Fall to Suns

College Football:

Oregon laid out Liberty 45 to 6 in the Fiesta Bowl yesterday. Quarterback Bo Nix had a huge final game in college throwing for five touchdowns with 363 yards, setting several school records and a national completion percentage record in the process. Tez Johnson is now the Ducks season reception leader after his 11 catches gave him 86 for the season and passed receiver Troy Franklin who set the previous record with 81 in the Pac 12 championship game. The Ducks defense struggled some in the first quarter but rallied to shut down Liberty’s top ranked rushing offense.

Basketball:

NBA-

The Trail Blazers lost to Phoenix 109 to 88 last night. The team started hot in the first quarter but then went ice cold and the result was a blowout loss Scoot Henderson led Portland with 17 points and 6 assists. The Blazers drop to 9 and 23 and are in Dallas tomorrow.

College Hoops-

The Oregon State Women beat Oregon Sunday to open the Pac 12 season. OSU is now 12 and 0.

NFL:

Seattle needs to beat the Cardinals and get help from the Bears beating the Packers this Sunday in the most likely scenario to make the final wild card spot. The other scenarios involve unlikely ties.  Seahawks coach Pete Carrol called the loss to the Steelers disappointing for the defense, who have struggled stopping the run, giving up 200 yards and a season high for total yards.

San Francisco will sit Christian McCaffery in Sunday’s game against the Rams. The running back will rest an injured calf. The 49ers have locked up home field advantage in the playoffs, and may put several key starters on a snap count Sunday to make sure they’re healthy for a playoff run.
