Basketball:

NBA- The Trail Blazers got their first win of the season, beating the Raptors 99 to 91 yesterday. Jerami Grant led the way for the Blazers with 22 points. Malcolm Brogdon chipped in 21 off the bench with Deandre Ayton pulling down 23 rebounds. …The road trip continues. Portland plays Detroit tomorrow afternoon.

College Football:  

Oregon’s number 6 and number 7 ranking in the AP and Coaches Poll respectively won’t matter after the College Football Playoff rankings are announced later today. The 7 and 1 Ducks take on California back at Autzen this Saturday.

Oregon State's loss to Arizona dropped them to 6 and 2 on the season. They’ll likely be ranked somewhere in the teens in today’s College Football Playoff ranking. The Beavers have a high-profile game in Colorado this Saturday night. 

Washington will likely maintain its number 5 spot in the College Football Playoff ranking. Next up for the Huskies is a top 25 match up with 24th ranked USC.

The rankings will be released today and every Tuesday afternoon through the end of the season at 4 PM

In recruiting news, the U of O has lured Five-star edge rusher Elijah Rushing of Tucson Arizona away from his hometown Wildcats to commit to the Ducks for the 2024 season. Rushing’s announcement adds to Oregon’s highly touted recruiting class.

NFL: 

Seattle is now in first place in the NFC West sitting at 5 and 2 heading to Baltimore this Sunday for a big game against the surging Ravens.

San Francisco will try to stop their three-game losing streak with an eye on the NFL Trade deadline being at 1 this afternoon. Health concerns over Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, Tackle Trent Williams and QB Brock Purdy continue to hamper the 49ers who are on the road against a 6 and 2 Jacksonville team that has won 5 in a row.

College Football:  

Oregon moved up to number 6 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and number 7 in the Coaches Poll after the decisive 35 to 6 victory over new number 18 Utah. The Ducks take on California back at Autzen this Saturday.

Oregon State fell back to number 16 in the AP Poll and number 19 in the Coaches Poll after the 27-24 loss to Arizona. Now OSU goes to Colorado this Saturday. 

Washington stayed ranked number 5 in both polls after beating Stanford. Next up for the Huskies is a top 25 match up with 24th ranked USC.

Since Washington State beat the Beavers over a month ago they’ve lost 4 straight. The Cougs will try to right the ship hosting Stanford this Saturday.

Tomorrow the first College Football Playoff ranking will be released. It will be interesting to see if Oregon or Texas is the top rated 1-loss team.

NFL: 

The Seahawks used a total team effort to come back to beat the Browns 24 to 20 including a game winning touchdown pass from Geno Smith to Jaxon Smith-Njigba late in the game. Seattle is now in first place in the NFC West heading to Baltimore this Sunday.

San Francisco gave up first place in the division after going down 31 to 17 to the Bengals for their third straight loss. Brock Purdy threw two interceptions and led the team in rushing which was not part of the game plan with Christian McCaffery getting in the endzone twice but was held to only 54 yards.

Basketball:

NBA- The Trail Blazers lost to Philadelphia last night getting blown out 126 to 98. Shaedon Sharpe led Portland on the road with 20 points. Rookie Scoot Henderson managed only 4 points with 3 assists. The 0 and 3 Blazers are in Toronto for a 4:30 tip-off today against the Raptors.

College Football:  

Number 11 Oregon State is at Arizona tomorrow night. The Beavers are favored by just over a field goal against the Wildcats. Kick-off in Tucson is at 7:30.

Washington State travels to Arizona State. Kick-off is tomorrow at 5. The Cougars are favored to win by just under a touchdown.

Number 5 Washington is just about 4 touchdown favorites against Stanford tomorrow. Kick-off in Palo Alto is at 4.

Number 8 Oregon is in Salt Lake City tomorrow against 13th ranked Utah. The Ducks and their second-ranked scoring offense are favored by just under a Tuddy. Coverage starts at 10:30. Kick-off is at 12:30, and we’ll have all the post-game reaction here on KBND.

College Football:  

Oregon State Athletics will hold its induction ceremony for the 2023 Hall of Fame Class on Friday, November 10th. This year’s class includes the 2006 softball and 2016 women's basketball teams, former Athletic Director Bob De Carolis, former head football coach Mike Riley, men’s basketball player Brent Barry, football’s Mike Hass,  Steven Jackson, and Alexis Serna, gymnast Mandi Rodriguez, and volleyball’s Rachel Rourke. That will be the night before the Beavers next home game against Stanford. 

…Number 11 Oregon State is at Arizona this Saturday Night. 

The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame has announced Oregon quarterback Bo Nix as one of 16 finalists for the Campbell Trophy, college football's scholar-athlete award for combined academic success, football performance and leadership. Nix is the only Pac 12 player on the list.

NFL: 

The injury bug continues to bite the Seahawks. Pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu is having season-ending pectoral surgery after getting hurt in the win against Arizona. Now the team has signed edge rusher Frank Clark to replace Nwosu. The 8th year veteran played his first four seasons with Seattle. The Seahawks host the Browns this Sunday. 

There’s been a lot of talk over the concern for San Francisco losing two straight after starting 5 and 0. Speculation is what the 49ers will do to level up ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. Quarterback Brock Purdy missed practice yesterday after being in concussion protocol. San Francisco hosts the Bengals this Sunday.

U of O Defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in Oregon's win over Washington State. Uiagalelei led the Ducks with two tackles for loss while getting his first career sack against the Cougars. 

Reports say Running Back Bucky Irving was participating in practice yesterday. Irving briefly left the game to get checked out after being shaken up on a play but did return.

Number 8 Oregon is in Salt Lake City this Saturday for a big matchup with 13th ranked Utah. Hear from Coach Dan Lanning during the Ducks Coaches show tonight at 7:05 here on KBND.

Number 11 Oregon State is at Arizona this Saturday Night. Oregon State football head coach Jonathan Smith is one of 20 on the initial watch list for the Dodd Trophy. The award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate head coach. It’s Smith’s second time making a coaching watchlist this season.

A Yahoo Sports report says Oregon State and Washington State are expected to be a two-member conference next season and the schools have reached out to the Mountain West about a "scheduling alliance"

Basketball:

NBA- The Trail Blazers season opener is tonight. The new look Blazers will have one of the youngest teams in the league, and aren’t expected to be much of a contender in a deep Western Conference. Still 3rd overall draft pick Scoot Henderson will have a lot of eyes on him as Portland begins its first season in 11 years without Damian Lillard. Tip-off in Los Angeles against the Clippers is at 7:30 tonight.

Number 11 Oregon State is at Arizona this Saturday Night. The 6 and 1 Beavers are already bowl-eligible at the earliest time in program history and are looking to move into a New Year’s 6 bowl if they can continue the winning ways. The last Bowl game of that caliber was in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl…with coach Jonathon Smith at QB. 

Number 8 Oregon is in Salt Lake City this Saturday for a big matchup with 13th ranked Utah. ESPN College Game Day will be at there to preview the matchup. We know the Utes won’t have quarterback Cam Rising. It was announced over the weekend he won’t play this season after suffering a severe knee injury in last year’s Rose Bowl. Linebacker Lander Barton, last season’s Pac 12 Defensive Freshman of the year is also done for the season.

Number 5 Washington 

NFL: 

The Seahawks undrafted rookie Jake Bobo’s TD catch has been one of the most talked about plays from Sunday. Seattle hosts the Browns this Sunday. Cleveland QB Deshaun Watson will start according tocoach Kevin Stefanski although will be listed as day to day.

Basketball:

NBA- Now that the Trail Blazers have their final roster, Portland coach Chauncey Billups is getting his squad ready for the regular season opener tomorrow night in Los Angeles against the Clippers. This season will also feature the NBA Cup in-season tournament with that first game next Friday November 3rd for the Blazers.

College Football:  

Oregon moved up to number 8 in the Associated Press Poll and up to number 9 in the Coaches poll after the win over Washington State. The Ducks are 6 and 1 on the season and go to Salt Lake City this Saturday for a big matchup with the 13th ranked Utes who are coming off a win at USC.

Oregon State was idle this week but moved up to number 11 in the AP and 12 in the Coaches Poll.  It's the first time in program history the Beavers have been ranked in the first nine weeks of the AP Top 25. The 6 and 1 Beavers are at Arizona this Saturday Night.

Washington remained at Number 5 in both polls after hanging on to beat Arizona State.

NFL: Week 7

The Seahawks took out the Cardinals yesterday. Running Back Kenneth Walker the third ran for over a hundred yards…Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a touchdown from Geno Smith who was 18 for 24 with 2 TD and an interception in the 20 to 10 victory to move to 4 and 2 on the season.

San Francisco will be without Deebo Samuel tonight. Running Back Christian McCaffery…healing from a rib injury is listed as questionable. The 49ers are still favored against the Vikings. Kick off is at 5:15

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers lost 3 to 1 to the Houston Dynamo Saturday night and won’t be in the MLS Cup playoffs. It caps a disappointing season for the Timbers who almost turned things around after the firing of their head coach in the middle of the season.

Basketball:

NBA- The Trail Blazers are making their final roster decisions today after a series of moves over the weekend. They stand at 14 players now and could add one more. Some of the players will be added to their G League squad, the Rip City Remix. It’s the first season the Blazers will have a team in the developmental league. The regular season begins Wednesday for Portland at the LA Clippers.

Number 5 Washington hosts Arizona State tomorrow night at 7:30. The Huskies are favored by over 4 touchdowns over the Sun Devils.

San Francisco gets an extra day for Running Back Christian McCaffery to heal from a rib injury. The 49ers are favored by just under a touchdown against the Vikings in Minnesota Monday.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers host the Houston Dynamo tomorrow night in the final regular season match. The Timbers sit in 7th place and they’ll remain at that seed for the MLS Cup playoff if they win. If they lose or draw then the playoff scenario gets a little more complicated. Match start in Portland is at 6 tomorrow night.

Both Powers-Johnson and Franklin were selected All Americans by The Athletic and Sporting News publications, as well. Oregon State Offensive Tackle Taliese Fuaga is AP first team O Line. Guard Tanner Miller is on the second team. Fuaga and Return Specialist Silas Bolden made The Athletic second team.

Washington’s Michael Penix Jr is first team quarterback

Oregon State senior Josh Green has been named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which is given annually to college football's top punter.

Green has punted 19 times this season, averaging 40.6 yards per attempt.

College Football:  

The Offensive Lines for Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington have been named to the Midseason Honor Roll for the Joe Moore Award for the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit in College Football. Oregon leads the nation in scoring (48.5 PPG) and is one of just two teams (LSU) to rank in the top 10 in both rushing (8th, 221.67 YPG) and passing offense (9th, 331.7 YPG). Oregon State is fourth in the Pac 12 in rushing yards per game (195.1). The Huskies lead the bowl subdivision in passing yards per game (424.7).

Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, and Washington’s Kalen DeBoer have been named to the watch list for the 2023 Paul "Bear" Bryant Award. That’s for the nation's top head coach.

Ducks defensive end Brandon Dorlus and offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson made the midseason watch list for the Lombardi Award, given to the country’s top lineman.

Basketball:

NBA-The Trail Blazers will look at rotations and different matchups this week as they prepare for the regular season opener next Wednesday against the Clippers. Final rosters have to be decided by Monday.

The Pac 12 Women’s schedule has been released: The Beavs host Oregon on December 31st to begin the final season of conference play.

While Number 9 Oregon is shaking off the loss to number 5 Washington and preparing for Washington State this Saturday…coach Dan Lanning and the coaching staff landed a huge recruiting win getting five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland to commit to Eugene over Georgia and Miami. He’s the top rated player in California. 

Three Beavers earned weekly conference honors for their play in the win against UCLA. Ryan Cooper Jr., is the Defensive Player of the Week. He had a 67 yard interception return for a touchdown. Sione Lolohea’s [Shee-Oh-nay lolo-hey-uh] 10 solo tackles got him the Defensive Lineman of the Week, and Taliese Fuaga is the Offensive Lineman of the Week. He helped OSU gain more than 400 yards of offense. Fuaga was the No. 3 overall graded offensive lineman by Pro Football Focus…and is the nation's top graded offensive lineman for overall and run blocking. Number 12 Oregon State has their bye this week. 

NFL:

Seattle coach Pete Carroll thinks the loss to the Bengals will help his team down the road. Carroll on his weekly radio interview was especially pleased with the defensive effort. Safety Jamal Adams played the entire game and looks to be healthy after dealing with injuries since the pre-season. The Seahawks are back home for a divisional game against the Cardinals this Sunday.

The 49ers are dealing with injuries to Christian McCaffrey, and Deebo Samuel ahead of Monday’s game against Minnesota. San Francisco will list Samuel and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) as day-to-day. The 9ers are looking to regroup after a poor offensive outing in Sunday’s loss to Cleveland.

Oregon Coach Dan Lanning was quick to accept blame for the loss saying the team should have punted rather than have gone for it on 4th down late in the game. 

The Ducks are back home Saturday against Washington State who fell out of the polls after losing to Arizona.

Oregon State moved up to number 12 in the AP and 13 in the Coaches, after the decisive win against UCLA. 

OSU, now 6 and 1 is off for a week before going to Tucson on the 28th to face Arizona.

NFL:

The Seahawks outgained the Bengals in total offense and most stat categories…including turnovers. Seattle comes away from Cincinnati 3 and 2 after losing 17 to 13. 

The state of Ohio was rough for the 49ers also. They fell 19 to 17 to the Browns. San Francisco’s offense was held to 215 yards. Christian McCaffery and Deebo Samuel both got banged up in the loss. The 9ers stay on the road, going to Minnesota next Monday night.

Basketball:

NBA-The Trail Blazers get their final chance for a pre-season tune-up tonight in Phoenix. The team showed some bright spots Saturday night against Utah. The Regular season begins next week on the 25th.  Tip-off against the Suns is at 7 tonight.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns will get a bye to start the NWSL Playoffs. They lost to Angel City 5 to 1 yesterday putting them in second place to finish the season. The Thorns will face the winner of Gotham FC vs North Carolina in the Semi-finals November 5th.

Tackle Charles Cross was injured in the first game but was at practice this week. Also safety Jamal Adams cleared concussion protocol, meaning he should be ready to go against the Bengals Sunday. 5 and 0 San Francisco could bolster their already strong defense with the addition of edge rusher Randy Gregory who they picked up last week after a trade with Denver. The team is optimistic he’ll be ready to go in Cleveland on Sunday. Kickoff for 9ers at Browns is 10 am

College Football:  

Oregon State will face its toughest defense so far this season in UCLA. The Bruins are 5th in total defense nationally and 2nd in rush defense. OSU has the 15th ranked rushing attack in the nation, behind Running Back Damien Martinez and the tough offensive line. It’s homecoming Saturday afternoon for Number 15 OSU against number 18 UCLA.

It’s the first ever top 10 match up for Number 8 Oregon against Number 7 Washington Saturday. Yesterday’s practice had star defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus back on the field after missing Tuesday’s drills. Basketball: 

Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Media Day was yesterday in Las Vegas. Oregon coach Dana Altman said the team has a lot of work to do to get ready for the season with seven new players and five returners. The Ducks were picked by the media to finish 4th in the Conference…. The Beavers are picked to finish last. That doesn’t deter OSU coach Wayne Tinkle who had a lot of players go down with injuries last season but are back at full strength now. Oregon begins its season in Las Vegas against Georgia starting November 6th. Oregon State opens the season at home against Linfield on November 6th.

NBA- The Portland Trail Blazers first official preseason game is tonight against Phoenix. Portland recently announced they picked up the extension on Shaedon Sharpe’s contract for the 2024-25 season as they intend to build a nucleus around Sharpe, rookie Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons. Recent acquisitions  Deandre Ayton, and Robert Williams III should help too. Ayton faces his old Suns squad tonight in the Moda Center. Tip off is at 7.

Number 8 Oregon is preparing for the high powered offense of Number 7 Washington. Yesterday’s practice had linebacker Jestin Jacobs in full pads leading to speculation he may be ready to make his season debut Saturday. Reports show star defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus not at practice though. We may get more clarity tonight during the Ducks coaches show starting at 7:05 here on KBND. 

Oregon State wide receiver and kick returner Silas Bolden has been named to the Hornung Award weekly honor roll.  That’s for college football's most versatile player.  In the Cal win, Bolden caught three passes for 34 yards, including one for a touchdown. He also rushed for 11 yards…and had 109 return yards on two attempts including a 59 yarder. The Number 15 Beavers are back at Reser Saturday against number 18 UCLA for homecoming.

Basketball: 

Pac-12 Women’s media day yesterday saw the release of reporters picks for the 2023-24 season. Utah is picked to win the conference. Oregon is picked to finish 8th. Ducks coach Kelly Graves says he likes the makeup of his team calling them ‘blue collar and competitive’…OSU is voted to come in 10th. Coach Scott Rueck says he’s excited to have a veteran squad with seven returning players and three transfers, with the freshman getting experience on a trip to Italy. Oregon State's Raegan Beers and Talia von Oelhoffen earned Preseason All-Pac-12 honors.

Men’s Basketball Media Day is today in Las Vegas. Oregon senior Center N'Faly Dante was named to the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference team. Oregon State sophomore Jordan Pope is on the Second Team. Dante and Pope will both be speaking to reporters today. Ducks coach Dana Altman is scheduled for 10:40…. with Beavers coach Wayne Tinkle at 11:05

Local:

High School- The OSAA delegate assembly on Monday voted to approve boys volleyball as an emerging activity. In the spring, boys volleyball completed a season with 32 high school teams, surpassing the threshold of 25 to be considered as an emerging activity. Monday's vote means that the OSAA staff will work closely with boys volleyball organizers in assessing the sport's viability to be sanctioned by the OSAA. To become fully sanctioned, it would need at least 50 schools to field teams.

College Football:  

Oregon State's Joshua Gray and DJ Uiagalelei both received weekly honors by the Pac-12 following Saturday’s win over Cal. Gray has been named the conference's Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season, while Uiagalelei has been selected as the Pac-12's Offensive Player of the Week. Gray and the 0 line racked up 499 total yards. DJ U was 19-of-25 for 275 yards and five touchdowns…that also earned him a spot on the Davey O'Brien Great 8 honors for the week. The Number 15 Beavers are back at Reser Saturday against number 18 UCLA for homecoming.

A couple of Heisman Trophy candidates add to the intrigue of this week’s top 10 matchup between the Ducks and Huskies. Bo Nix accounted for 4 touchdowns in the Colorado Game. Michael Penix Jr may be the leading Heisman contender who has thrown for almost two thousand yards in the first five games. Number 8 Oregon is at Number 7 Washington Saturday in Seattle at 12:30 here on KBND.

The Beavers moved up to 14th in the Coaches poll and stayed ranked Number 15 in the Associated Press Poll after the 52 to 40 win over Cal.  Oregon State moves to 5 and 1 on the season, 2 and 1 in conference, good for 4th place in the Pac 12. The Beavs are back at Reser Saturday against new number 18 AP… and 22 Coaches UCLA.

Washington State fell to 19th in the polls after losing to UCLA. It was the first loss of the season for the now 4 and 1 Cougars.

Oregon stayed at Number 8 in both polls The Ducks play the Number 7 AP and coaches poll number 6 Washington Huskies Saturday in Seattle. 

NBA:

The Portland Trail Blazers have pre-season games this week against the New Zealand Breakers in an exhibition tomorrow night against Rookie Rayan Rupert’s old squad from the Australian Basketball League. The first official preseason game is Thursday against Phoenix. 

NFL:

The 3 and 1 Seahawks are coming off their bye week preparing to go on the road to face Cincinnati. Seattle hopes the week off can help get some of its banged up players back on the field. Barring a setback Geno Smith should play after briefly leaving last Monday's game. Smith was fined almost 11 thousand dollars by the NFL for his taunting penalty after returning to the game in the 3rd quarter.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns beat Gotham FC to clinch a spot in the NWSL playoffs and move back into first place in the league.

The Portland Timbers didn’t do themselves any favors for their play-off position after Saturday’s loss to Montreal. The Timbers are in 7th place in the Western Conference with 1 game left in the regular season on Saturday the 21st.

The Big 10 released the home and away conference matchups for 2024 through 2028. Among others, Oregon will host Ohio State and Washington in 2024, and will go on the road to Michigan and UCLA. Interestingly the Ducks will only play former Pac 12 opponents UCLA and USC every other year.

Tomorrow’s Pac 12 slate has Number 15 Oregon State at Cal tomorrow night. The Beavers are favored by almost a touchdown and a field goal over the Golden Bears. Kick off is at 7.

Number 13 Washington State returns after its bye week traveling to the Rose Bowl where the Cougars are an underdog by just over a field goal to UCLA. Kick off is at 12 tomorrow.

The Ducks and Huskies are off this week…looking ahead to their big top 10 matchup next Saturday in Seattle

College Hoops- The Pac-12 announced the dates, game times and broadcast information for its 2023-24 men’s basketball season starting later this month. Next week, Pac-12 coaches and student-athletes will preview the upcoming seasons at the Conference's 2023 Basketball Media Days in Las Vegas - the women on Tuesday, and men on Wednesday

NFL:

San Francisco. The 4 and 0 49ers host Dallas Sunday night as slight favorites by just over a field goal. 

The 3 and 1 Seahawks have a bye this week. 

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers can clinch a playoff spot this weekend. If they beat Montreal, who is also fighting for a playoff spot, the Timbers are in. If they tie or lose they'll need some help from other match results. It’s the second to last match of the regular season, starting at 4:30 tomorrow.

The Portland Thorns have a huge match for playoff position against Gotham FC tomorrow afternoon starting at 2.

Ducks coach Dan Lanning said at yesterday’s media availability that he thinks Running Back Noah Whittington is done for the season. The junior suffered a leg injury during the Colorado game. Coach Lanning believes they have enough depth at running back to overcome Whittington’s absence.  Number 8 Oregon is preparing for number 7 Washington next Saturday the 14th in Seattle. Lanning also said several coaches would be making recruiting trips Thursday and Friday.

Oregon State will look for more balance on offense as its rushing game has been consistent but QB D.J. Uiagalelei has regressed a little in the last two games. The 4 and 1 Beavers are back on the road at Cal Saturday night against a Bears team coming off a surprise win over Arizona State. Cal Coach Justin Wilcox isn’t yet announcing which quarterback will start.

NBA: 

Day two of the Portland Trail Blazers Training camp. Malcolm Brogdon spoke to Blazers media saying he expected to stay with the team despite trade rumors. The first Blazers’ pre-season game is a week from tonight.

NFL:

Seattle’s Rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his  performance in Monday night’s win over the Giants that included a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown. He also had two sacks and seven tackles. The 3 and 1 Seahawks have a bye this week. 

San Francisco’s do-everything running back Christian McCaffery was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his four touchdowns in the win over Arizona. McCaffery is having an MVP level year through the first quarter of the season. The 4 and 0 49ers host Dallas Sunday night.

Number 8 Oregon is preparing for number 7 Washington next Saturday the 14th in Seattle. Coaches say they’re using the bye week to look at not only the Huskies but the other ranked teams the Ducks play this month- Washington State and Utah. 

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers Training camp on the UC Santa Barbara campus opened with a three hour session yesterday. The 21 player roster has seven rookies and five first year players. Jerami Grant and Malcolm Brogdon are the only two players with more than five years of experience. Brogdon is still mentioned in trade talks and could bring in some decent draft picks for Portland over the next couple of seasons. They may keep him as an asset for teams who want to make a run later this season. The young squad will need to gel fast. The first Blazers’ pre-season game is next Thursday.

NFL:

The 3 and 1 Seahawks continue to struggle with injuries. Geno Smith got banged up but returned in the second half. Jamal Adams left the game with a concussion. They’ll have some time to heal as Seattle heads into their bye week. 

The 49ers will have a test against Dallas this Sunday. San Francisco has eliminated the Cowboys in the past two postseasons…The 4-0 9ers have been excellent on all facets of the game but see room for improvement.

The 4 and 1 Beavers go to Berkely Saturday night to face 3 and 2 Cal.

We now know Number 8 Oregon vs number 7 Washington will kick off at 12:30 on Saturday the 14th in Seattle. The 115th meeting of the programs marks the first time the teams will play while both are ranked in the top 10.

The Portland Trail Blazers held media day yesterday. GM Goe Cronin said the team ultimately traded Damian Lillard ahead of the start of training camp so it wouldn’t be a distraction, "I thought it would be consistently hanging over our heads that he still wanted...this trade request was still active and that wasn't going to change."

The roster is made up of a lot of new faces because of the Lillard trade including 5th year player Deandre Ayton, a former number 1 overall pick,  and this year’s 3rd overall pick Scoot Henderson. Coach Chauncey Billups says he’ll coach to the team’s strengths, "We going to be young, we have to be able to play fast, we need to be athletic. We want to play that brand of basketball."

Cronin talked about the new players on the roster in the wake of the Damian Lillard trade saying they'll bring strength and experience, "A dominant center in this league, Robert Williams is one of the best defensive big men in this league.  Malcom Brogdon is the reigning Sixth Man of the Year.  These are very capable players right now that we're excited about."

Coach Chauncey Billups says speed and athleticism will have to make up for not having superstar when they hit a rough patch, "We're so dang young man, it's going to be fun, but there's going to be some tough, trying times out there because of our youth. I don't see it as a disadvantage."

Training camp starts today. The first Blazers’ pre-season game is next week.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers played a 3 - 3 draw with the LA Galaxy Saturday. The tie takes them down to 7th in the Western Conference, just barely in playoff contention. Two matches remain in the MLS regular. season

The Portland Thorns struggled again without star Sofia Smith getting shut out by San Diego Saturday night. The loss knocks the Thorns off the top of the NWSL standing and into 2nd place with two matches left in the regular season.

Oregon remained ranked number 9 in the coaches poll and moved to number 8 in the AP poll… The Ducks 42 to 6 win over Stanford sends them into the bye week at 5 and 0, with a chance to rest up and fully prepare to go to Seattle to take on the number 8 in the coaches and 7 in the AP poll Huskies on October 14th.

Oregon State moved up to 16 in the coaches poll and 15 in the AP Poll after beating Utah Friday night. The 4 and 1 Beavers go to Berkely Saturday night to face 3 and 2 Cal.

NBA: The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Jrue Holiday to Boston in exchange for guard Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III and two first-round picks. Portland could trade Brogdon, according to reports.

The Trail Blazers media availability starts at 9 this morning…There will be lots to talk about heading into the 2023-24 season. Training camp begins tomorrow (Tue) for Coach Chauncey Billups and the young Blazer team. .

NFL:

The 49ers routed Arizona 37 to 16 yesterday with Christian McCaffery scoring four TDs… and QB Brock Purdy going an incredibly efficient 20 of 21 for 283 yards… and throwing a touchdown to McCaffery.

The Seahawks are trying to get healthy on the offensive line and the defensive backfield… Seattle is in New Jersey to take on the Giants tonight starting at 5:15.

MLB:

The Mariners beat Texas yesterday 1 to nothing. The game was meaningless for the Ms but it did allow Houston to win the Division with the Rangers' loss. It’s a season of close but not quite and more than a few what ifs after missing a chance to go back to the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. Seattle looks at an offseason with bright prospects for its young starting pitchers, but will need to find bullpen help.
