(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon is just days away from kicking off another football season.  The fifth-ranked Ducks open 2015 on Saturday when they host Eastern Washington, the former home of starting quarterback Vernon Adams.  Oregon went 13-and-2 last season but fell to Ohio State in the National Championship game.

(Eugene, OR)  --  There will be no fireworks at Oregon's season opener on Saturday.  Eugene city officials have denied the Ducks' request to shoot off fireworks after each touchdown and after the game.  The city cites the current dry weather making the area susceptible to quick-spreading wildfires.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Portland Timbers' unbeaten string is over at four games after a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders.  Obafemi Martins and Brad Evans each scored for Seattle to pull the Sounders even with the Timbers in the season series at two wins each.  Jack Jewsbury scored Portland's only goal.  The Timbers will host Sporting Kansas City this Wednesday night, and the Sounders will host Toronto on Saturday night.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State kicks off the 2015 season Friday when they take on Weber State in Corvallis.  The Beavers finished 5-and-7 last year and 2-and-7 in conference play.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta has thrown the sixth no-hitter of the season.  Arrieta kept the Dodgers hitless in Chicago's 2-0 win last night in LA.  Arrieta struck out 12, walked one and threw 116 pitches in the first no-hitter of his career.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Seattle Mariners will continue their road trip in Houston tonight, after losing to the Chicago White Sox in eleven innings, 6-5.  Tyler Saladino had a walk-off RBI to give Chicago the win yesterday.  Kyle Seager and Austin Jackson each had a two-run homer for Seattle.  The Mariners will start a three-game series with the Astros at 5:10 this evening.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks' football team held its final scrimmage on Thursday, and the staff is now tasked with filling out the depth chart and handing out redshirts.  Position battles at quarterback, center, and in the secondary will be settled by this weekend.  Ducks coach Mark Helfrich has not given a timetable on naming a starting quarterback, however.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Portland Timbers take on their Pacific Northwest rivals, Seattle Sounders FC, in a road match on Sunday.  The Timbers are tied with Sporting KC for third in the Western Conference with 40 points.  Sounders FC is sixth with 35.  Portland beat Seattle 4-1 at home in June.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Beavers senior offensive lineman Gavin Andrews is taking a redshirt season as his foot still isn't recovered from a spring injury.  Andrews started 10 games for the Beavers last season at three different positions.
 

(Lehigh Valley, PA)  --  The former NBA star known as "Chocolate Thunder" has passed away.  Darryl Dawkins died at 58 in Pennsylvania Thursday morning.  Dawkins was known for his backboard-shattering dunks before the days of breakaway rims.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Seattle Mariners will continue their road series in Chicago this evening after losing to the White Sox, 4-2.  Roenis Elias allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out three in taking the loss.  Franklin Gutierrez had a two-run home run in the seventh inning to account for all the Mariners' scoring.  First pitch for game two will be at 5:10 p.m.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  The Steelers may be without wide receiver Martavis Bryant in Week One.  ESPN reports the NFL is suspending him four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, pending an appeal.  The Steelers will already be without suspended running back Le'Veon Bell for the first two games.

(Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers forward Moe Harkless sprained his ankle while training with the Puerto Rican National Team.  Harkless was traded to Portland from Orlando in July.  He is returning from Puerto Rico so team doctors can evaluate him.  The 22-year-old small forward averaged a career-low 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game for the Magic last season.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are headed to Chicago after earning an 8-2 win over the Oakland A's.  Felix Hernandez allowed two runs on three hits over eight innings to pick up his 15th win of the season.  Kyle Seager and Nelson Cruz each homered in the eighth for Seattle.  The Mariners will begin a four-game road series with the White Sox this evening.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks have closed fall camp two-a-day practices without naming a starting quarterback.  Head coach Mark Helfrich says he didn't plan on making the decision a secret.  The Ducks have a team scrimmage today, so the staff gets another shot to evaluate their two quarterbacks, Jeff Lockie and Vernon Adams.

(St. Petersburg, FL)  --  The Twins now have control of the second Wild Card spot in the American League.  Minnesota ran its winning streak to six with a 5-3 victory over the Rays last night.  The Twins hold a half-game lead on the Rangers for the second AL Wild Card spot.

(Detroit, MI)  --  Justin Verlander lost his bid for a no-hitter in the ninth inning of the Tigers' 5-0 win over the Angels.  Chris Iannetta led off the top of the ninth with a double that hit the chalk down the left-field line to end Verlander's bid for a third career no-no.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Former 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald has been indicted on a felony rape charge by a grand jury in Santa Clara County.  Current Niners linebacker Ahmad Brooks has also been charged with misdemeanor sexual battery for an alleged assault involving the same woman in the McDonald case on the same day.
 

(Undated)  --  Oregon and Oregon State continue to gear up for the 2015 college football season.  The Ducks hold their final scrimmage of the preseason camp tomorrow.  UO opens the season at home against Eastern Washington.  The Beavers held their media day on Tuesday, and open the regular season nine days from now at home against Weber State.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to earn a series win this afternoon after overtaking the Oakland A's, 6-5.  Seattle overcame a 5-0 deficit to set up the rubber match with Oakland this afternoon.  Nelson Cruz and Logan Morrison homered in the fourth inning for the Mariners.  The two teams are set to play again at 12:40 p.m. at Safeco Field.

(Oxnard, CA)  --  The Cowboys will be without one of their best defenders this season.  Cornerback Orlando Scandrick had to leave practice early Tuesday with a right knee injury.  An MRI later confirmed that Scandrick tore his ACL.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  Michael Vick will resume his NFL career in the Steel City.  The veteran quarterback agreed to a one-year deal with the Steelers after working out for the team on Tuesday.  Vick will compete for the backup job behind Ben Roethlisberger.

(Allentown, PA)  --  The death of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson will not be in vain.  His brother posted on Twitter that Wilson is saving six lives by donating his organs.  The 37-year-old driver died Monday night from head trauma after he was hit by debris from another car during Sunday's race at Pocono Raceway.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian says he is seeking treatment after his behavior during a team event on Saturday.  Sarkisian blamed a combination of alcohol and medication for his inappropriate speech and behavior, which he apologized for Tuesday.

(Allentown, PA)  --  IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has died from a head injury he sustained from being struck by debris during the ABC Supply 500 at Pennsylvania's Pocono Raceway on Sunday.  Wilson was only 37 years old.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Graduate transfer Vernon Adams is catching up on studying.  The "Register-Guard" reports the ex-Eastern Washington signal-caller is trailing Jeff Lockie in knowing the Oregon Ducks' playbook.  Both are battling to replace Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota, who left for the NFL.  Oregon opens the season September 5th against Adams' former school, Eastern Washington.

(Green Bay, WI)  --  The Packers are confirming that wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the 2015 season after sustaining a significant knee injury.  Nelson was hurt in Sunday's 24-19 preseason loss to the Steelers, with multiple reports saying he has a torn ACL.
 

(Tampa, FL)  --  Top-overall pick Jameis Winston ran in for a touchdown to help the Buccaneers beat the Bengals, 25-11, in preseason action in Tampa.  Winston was 8-of-13 for 90 yards through the air for the Bucs in the victory.

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Mets set franchise records with eight home runs and 15 extra-base hits in a 16-7 drubbing of the Phillies.  David Wright went deep in his first at-bat since April 14th for the NL East-leading Mets, who have scored 49 runs during their four-game winning streak.

(Foxboro, MA)  --  The Patriots and veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne have agreed to a one-year deal.  The 36-year-old Wayne spent the first 14 seasons of his career with the rival Colts.  He had 64 catches for 779 yards and two touchdowns last season.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State will go with a two-quarterback system to begin the 2015 season.  Beavers offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin announced that freshmen Seth Collins and Marcus McMaryion will both play in the team's season opener against Weber State on September 4th.  It is currently unknown who will get the start.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners' three-game losing streak is over, after an 8-6 win over the Chicago White Sox.  Nelson Cruz had a two-run double in the third inning and Robinson Cano had a two-run homer in the fifth to help lift Seattle to the victory.  The Mariners will host Oakland for a three-game series beginning tonight.  First pitch at Safeco Field is set for 7:10.

(Portland, OR)  --  Darlington Nagbe and Lucas Melano both scored in the final quarter of play to give the Timbers a 2-2 draw against the Dynamo at Providence Park on Friday.  Portland sits in a tie for third place in the Western Conference with Sporting KC at 40 points.  The Timbers are off until Sunday when they battle the Sounders.
 

(South Williamsport, PA)  --  Wilshire-Riverside's run in the Little League World Series is over.  The Portland team was eliminated after it suffered a 7-5 loss to Kentucky on Saturday.  They play a consolation game against the Dominican Republic today.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  It appears Aaron Rodgers will be without one of his favorite targets this year.  NFL Network reports Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson likely tore his ACL during Sunday's preseason game against the Steelers.  Green Bay is awaiting the results of an MRI to confirm the injury.  Nelson was hurt on the opening drive of the game.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without a key member of their offensive line for the foreseeable future.  Coach Mike Tomlin announced that center Maurkice Pouncey will undergo surgery on his injured ankle.  Pouncey was carted off the field in the first quarter of the team's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.  There is currently no timetable for his return.

(undated)  --  USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian is apologizing for his inappropriate behavior at the university's "Salute to Troy" event.  Sarkisian was allegedly drunk while making a speech to players and major donors.  He made crude comments about other teams and used profanities while introducing the team during his speech before Athletic Director Pat Haden pulled him off the stage.

(Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers fans will soon be able to represent their team on the open road.  Governor Kate Brown is set to sign a bill for HB 2730, which creates a new Blazers vanity license plate.  The Blazers' pinwheel will cost 40-dollars.  The fees from the plates will go to the Trail Blazers Foundation.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers tip their 2015-16 season off at home October 28th against the New Orleans Pelicans.  The Blazers longest road trip is six games from February 27th-through-March 6th, while the team has a seven-game homestand from January 23rd-through-February 4th.  Portland wraps the season up with three straight home games, including the season finale against Denver on April 13th.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma is the fourth pitcher to throw a no-hitter this season.  Iwakuma held the Orioles' offense silent for the full 27 outs as the M's won 3-0 in Seattle.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon Ducks tight end Pharaoh Brown is returning to the practice field.  Brown is coming back from a stomach-turning leg injury last November could have led to amputation.  Brown does not have a timetable for a possible return to full-contact football, and has a redshirt year available.  Before the injury he had 25 catches for 420 yards and six touchdowns for the Ducks.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Yankees are out of first place for the first time since July 1st after suffering a 2-1 loss to the Indians.  The loss, coupled with Toronto's win over the A's, gave the Blue Jays a half-game lead in the AL East.  Toronto has won 10 straight while the Yanks have dropped five in-a-row.

(Undated)  --  The NFL Preseason begins in earnest with six games on the schedule tonight.  The slate is headlined by the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots hosting the Packers.  Pats quarterback Tom Brady is not expected to play.

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon Ducks signal-caller Marcus Mariota has been nearly perfect in his first NFL training camp.  Mariota has not thrown an interception in eight consecutive practices during Tennessee Titans training camp.  Mariota's streak of not throwing an interception has attracted national attention.  He had 14 interceptions over 11-hundred pass attempts during his three seasons at Oregon.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State men's basketball is adding a three-star power forward to its already impressive recruiting class.  The team has landed big man Ben Kone out of San Jose, California.  He chose the Beavers over Cal, New Mexico, New Mexico State and San Diego State.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon running back Thomas Tyner's dad is clearing up things for his son.  John Tyner tells the "Oregonian" Thomas underwent shoulder surgery, but does not plan on transferring from the school.  The elder Tyner says " Thomas is a Duck, he's going to be a Duck."  The younger Tyner has a redshirt season available to him and will have two years of eligibility remaining should he sit out this season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are even in their series with Baltimore, after defeating the Orioles in ten innings, 6-5.  Nelson Cruz and Mark Trumbo launched first-inning home runs for the M's.  A walk-off RBI single in the tenth by Austin Jackson lifted Seattle to the win.  The Mariners and Orioles will complete their three-game series at Safeco Field this afternoon.

(Florham Park, NJ)  --  Jets quarterback Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw after being punched by a teammate.  IK Enemkpali reportedly punched Smith over a six-hundred-dollar debt.  Enemkpali was released and Smith will be sidelined for six-to-10 weeks.

(Berea, OH)  --  An NFL team is showing interest in Ray Rice.  Browns head coach Mike Pettine tells SI.com the team has discussed whether it makes sense to sign Rice.  The running back has not played since he was released by Baltimore last season after a video surfaced of him knocking out his then-fiancee in an elevator.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  Michael Brantley's RBI single in the bottom of the 16th lifted the Indians to a 5-4 win over the Yankees.  New York's lead on the Blue Jays in the AL East is down to a half-game.  The Yanks have dropped four straight while Toronto has won nine in-a-row.

(Undated)  --  A bit of baseball history was made last night.  For the first time since Major League Baseball expanded to 30 teams, all 15 home teams went undefeated on the same day.  The Mariners finished off the feat with a 6-5, 10-inning win over the Orioles.

(Cheney, WA)  --  Marcus Mariota's potential successor could be taking a final Thursday at Eastern Washington.  Vernon Adams tells Sports Illustrated he has to take one last final to graduate Eastern Washington and be allowed to transfer to Oregon.  If he doesn't pass the class, he'll be the most highly sought after quarterback that is ineligible to play for anyone other than Eastern Washington.

(Owings Mills, MD)  --  One of the all-time great wide receivers says the upcoming NFL season will be his last.  Ravens wide out Steve Smith has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.  The 36-year-old Smith is one of only 12 players with 900 catches in NFL history.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The U.S. Women's National Team will be coming to the Pacific Northwest in October.  The team will face Brazil in Seattle and again in Orlando in October as part of the team's 10-game 2015 Women's World Cup victory tour.  The U.S. will play Brazil at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Wednesday, October 21st.

(Canton, OH)  --  Football returned on Sunday night in a big way.  "Pro Football Talk" reports the preseason opening Hall of Fame Game between the Vikings and Steelers drew a 6.9 overnight rating.  It was the most-watched NFL preseason game in three years.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks open fall practice today in Eugene.  Jeff Lockie and Vernon Adams will compete to replace Heisman-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota.  However coach Mark Helfrich has stated that he is open to splitting time between the two QBs.  The Ducks open their season September 5th against Eastern Washington at Autzen Stadium.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  The always explosive Oregon Ducks' offense will be down a man when they take the field this year.  Junior running back Thomas Tyner is going to miss the entire season after undergoing shoulder surgery on Friday.  Tyner first hurt his shoulder returning a kickoff in the Ducks' seventh game against Washington last year.  However, he would play through the injury and finished with season with 573 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as the primary backup to Royce Freeman.  His father said the procedure went well and he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2016 season.
 

(Undated)  --  Football Hall of Famer Frank Gifford has passed away.  Gifford spent all 12 of his NFL seasons with the New York Giants before moving on to a lengthy career in broadcasting.  Gifford, who is survived by wife and "Today" show co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, was 84 years old.

(Portland, OR)  --  Fanendo Adi scored the lone goal to give the Timbers a 1-nil victory over the Fire at Providence Park on Friday.  They have won six of their last seven home matches and are in fifth in the Western Conference at 36 points, just three behind the first-place Whitecaps.  The Timbers are back in action Saturday at Real Salt Lake.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners have another series win in the books as they get ready to host Baltimore.  Yesterday's 4-2 win over Texas saw Felix Hernandez pick up his 14th victory of the season.  Jesus Montero and Nelson Cruz each had a home run for Seattle.  The Mariners will begin a three-game series with the Orioles at Safeco Field tonight at 7:10.

(Canton, OH)  --  Football is officially back.  The NFL opened preseason play last night with the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.  Mike Kafka threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to MyCole Pruitt as the Vikings downed the Steelers, 14-3.  Stars Ben Roethlisberger and Adrian Peterson did not play.
 

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says Kam Chancellor's holdout from training camp is an "issue of concern."  The strong safety says he won't participate in drills until he's able to get more than the four-point-45-million dollars in base pay he's scheduled to get this season.  Chancellor's contract runs through the 2017 season.  Under the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the Seahawks can fine him up to 30-thousand dollars for each day of camp he misses.

(Undated)  --  Trail Blazers big man Mason Plumlee was one of 34 players named to the USA Basketball minicamp roster yesterday.  He will participate in the minicamp from August 11th through 13th in Las Vegas.  Blazers guard Damian Lillard previously stated that he won't be participating.

(Undated)  --  The Portland Timbers have acquired forward Michael Seaton from the D.C. United.  Portland gave up a 2015 international roster slot and allocation money for the 19-year-old Jamaican.  The Timbers host the Chicago Fire tonight at Providence Park.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Blazers have released their preseason schedule.  They tip off exhibition play on October 5th against the Kings at the Moda Center.  They also host the Warriors and Jazz.  Portland has road games against Sacramento and Utah as well as the Lakers and Clippers.  The regular season schedule has yet to be released.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Linebacker Darrell Songy, who was expected to challenge for a starting role on the Beavers' defense this fall, is no longer on the Oregon State squad.  "The Oregonian" reports Songy was dismissed because he reportedly didn't fulfill additional behavioral requirements after he was suspended for the entire 2014 season.  Songy told "The Oregonian" in April that he failed three drug tests prior to last season.

(Denver, CO)  --  The Seattle Mariners' winning streak is over, after a 7-5 loss in eleven innings to Colorado.  Michael McKenry hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the eleventh for the Rockies.  Franklin Gutierrez hit a two-run home run for the Mariners in the seventh inning.  Seattle will have the day off before hosting Texas for a three-game series, starting tomorrow night.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers are back to work tomorrow night when they square off against the Fire at Providence Park.  They come in 0-2-and-2 in their last four matches following a scoreless tie against the Earthquakes last weekend.  Portland is in fifth place in the Western Conference at 33 points.  Chicago sits at 22 points.

(New York, NY)  --  The Ravens are denying tipping off the Colts about underinflated footballs before last season's AFC Championship Game.  Court papers show Baltimore contacted the Colts after a playoff loss to the Pats, but the Ravens released a statement claiming that's not true.

(Houston, TX)  --  The Texans will likely be opening the season with out star Arian Foster.  ESPN reports the running back is set to undergo groin surgery on Friday.  Foster may be placed on short-term injured reserve, which would allow him to return in the middle of the season.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter says the club's choice to part ways with Gaston Fernandez was a "mutual decision."  With the return of Diego Valeri and the recent signing of Lucas Melano, there was not going to be a place for Fernandez.  Melano could start Friday against the Chicago Fire.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks' first Heisman Trophy now has a home.  The highest individual honor in college football won last season by Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota will be housed permanently in the lobby of the two-year-old Hatfield-Dowlin Complex, Oregon's football headquarters.  The trophy is Oregon's copy of the original and sits on eight different metal layers representing eight facets of Mariota's life.

(Manhattan, NY)  --  Patriots quarterback Tom Brady denies tampering with footballs in transcripts released by the union from his June meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  Brady testified that he did not alter the footballs used in the AFC Championship Game, nor did he tell anyone to do so.

(Denver, CO)  --  The Seattle Mariners are on a three-game winning streak, following their 10-4 victory over Colorado.  Nelson Cruz homered in his fifth consecutive game and drove in three runs to help Seattle earn a series win over the Rockies.  Reliever Rob Rasmussen earned his first major-league win.  The Mariners and Rockies will wrap up their three-game series this afternoon.

(Detroit, MI)  --  The dismantling of the Detroit Tigers is continuing in the front office.  Dave Dombrowski has stepped down as president and general manager of the team.  Detroit reached the playoffs five times and the World Series twice on Dombrowski's watch.

(Houston, TX)  --  The Texans may start the season without star running back Adrian Foster.  ESPN reports Foster has a groin injury that may require surgery.  Foster could start the year on injured reserve with a designation for return.

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  The new-look Blue Jays continued their surge with a 3-1 win over the Twins.  Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki both homered for Toronto, which has won three straight to move a half-game ahead of the Orioles for the second AL Wild Card spot.

(Eugene, OR)  --  An elite four-star safety is set to for his official visit with the Oregon Ducks.  Lamar Jackson from Elk Grove, California named Oregon as one of five schools he will visit this fall.  Jackson will also visit Notre Dame, Arizona State, Oklahoma and Michigan.
 

(Denver, CO)  --  The Seattle Mariners are off to a good start in their series with Colorado, recording an 8-7 win over the Rockies.  Felix Hernandez allowed four runs on eleven hits and struck out nine in picking up his 13th win of the season.  Nelson Cruz had his 30th home run of the year in the second inning.  The Mariners and Rockies will play again tonight in Denver.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers and forward Gaston Fernandez are parting ways.  The "Oregonian" reports the team did not disclose the terms of the agreement, but Timbers owner Merritt Paulson said on Twitter that there were clear financial and salary cap benefits for the club.  The decision for the two sides to part ways came at Fernandez' request.

(Arlington, TX)  --  Rangers slugger Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle for the third time in his career in last night's 12-9 win over the Astros.  Beltre accomplished the feat in his first four at-bats.  Beltre is the first player with three career cycles since Babe Herman in the 1930s.
 

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  David Price struck out 11 in his Toronto debut as the Blue Jays beat the Twins, 5-1.  Price allowed just three hits in eight innings to get the win in his first start since being acquired from the Tigers last week.

(Burbank, CA)  --  USC coach Steve Sarkisian took a subtle jab at Oregon during Pac-12 media days last Friday.  When asked about the Trojans recruiting strategy, Sarkisian replied "We fall back on our rich tradition, we're not going to take the field in 13 different uniforms", a reference to the Ducks' numerous uniform combinations.  An Oregon staffer replied to the comment on Twitter, stating that they had outscored Sark-coached teams 227-97.  The two teams meet on November 21st in Eugene.

(Pittsford, NY)  --  The Bills have suspended offensive line coach Aaron Kromer for the first six games of the season.  Kromer was charged with battery after a fight last month, though the charges were later dropped.

(San Jose, CA)  --  The Timbers played the Earthquakes to a scoreless draw in San Jose.  They are now 0-2-and-2 in their last four matches with their last win coming on July 5th against the 'Quakes.  Portland sits in fifth place in the Western Conference at 33 points, one ahead of the Seattle Sounders and one behind Sporting KC.  The Timbers return home Friday to face the Fire.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Andre Ethier's two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th gave the Dodgers a 5-3 win over the Angels.  The Angels were swept in the three-game series and have dropped six in-a-row overall.

(Latrobe, PA)  --  Steelers cornerback Brandon Boykin has created a stir with his comments about former coach Chip Kelly.  Boykin told CSNPhilly.com the Eagles head coach was "uncomfortable around grown men of our culture."  Boykin said Sunday he doesn't believe Kelly is racist, but said Kelly has trouble relating to players.
 

(Flushing, NY)  --  The Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Nationals with a 5-2 win in New York.  Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda all homered in the third inning for the Mets, who moved into a virtual tie with the Nats for first place in the NL East.
