High School Football

We start with prep football under the Friday Night Lights and a the first big showdown in the IMC where 2nd ranked and unbeaten Mt. View plays host to #8 Summit.

The Cougars are 4-and-0 and tied with 7th ranked Bend for the League lead with identical 2-and-0 marks. Summit is 2-and-2 overall and coming off a 34-14 league loss at Hermiston last week. Kickoff at Jack Harris Stadium is at 7pm.

Elsewhere…Bend plays at Ridgeview, and Redmond hosts Pendleton.

In the 4A division, Sisters travels to Sutherlin for a Sky-Em game where both teams look for their first conference win to even their record.

In the Tri-Valley League, Madras hosts league-leading Estacada, and Crook County entertains Woodburn in a Non-League game with the Cowboys seeking their first win in 5 games.

La Pine kicks off Mountain Valley Conference play hosting Glide, and Culver hosts Stanfield with both teams aiming for their first wins of the season, also.

Oregon State Hosts Sixth-Ranked Washington Tomorrow

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is on its home field tomorrow for a game against sixth-ranked Washington.  Kickoff at Reser Stadium is at 5 o'clock.  The Beavers have dropped back-to-back games to Minnesota and Washington State to slip to 1-and-3 on the season.  The Huskies are a perfect 4-and-0 after a 37-10 win at Colorado this past Saturday.
 

Oregon Hosts Cal Tomorrow

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon football is at home tomorrow against Cal.  Kickoff from Autzen Stadium is at 7:30 p.m.  The Ducks are looking to bounce back from last Saturday's 37-35 loss at Arizona State that knocked them out of this week's Coaches' Poll.  Oregon is 3-and-1 on the year.  The Golden Bears are also 3-and-1 after losing to fifth-ranked USC.

Seahawks Host Colts Sunday

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks look to right the ship at home on Sunday as they clash with the Colts at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle is coming off a 33-27 loss at Tennessee.  The Seahawks are 1-and-2, with both losses on the road.  Their lone win came at home against the 49ers in Week Two.  Indianapolis is 1-and-2 after beating the Browns last Sunday.

Blazers' Nurkic Looking To Stay In Portland

(Portland, OR)  --  Center Jusuf Nurkic hopes to stick around Portland for a while.  The 23-year-old tells the "Portland Tribune" that he's in the best physical and mental shape of his career and says Portland is the place he wants to be.  Nurkic, who was acquired from Denver in February, can sign an extension on his rookie-scale contract until October 16th.
 

Blazers Begin Preseason Tuesday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers will raise the curtain on the preseason early next week.  They open up exhibition play Tuesday night at home against the Phoenix Suns.  It's the first of six exhibition games in all for Portland, which is coming off a 41-and-41 a season ago.  The Blazers begin the regular season Wednesday, October 18th at Phoenix.

Report: Ducks Make Barrett's Final Three

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon is still in the mix for the number-one 2018 basketball recruit.  According to ESPN, R.J. Barrett is considering the Ducks, Duke and Kentucky.  Michigan and Arizona have been eliminated.

Blazers' Harkless Sits Out Practice

(Tualatin, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are already dealing with injuries at training camp.  Forward Moe Harkless missed yesterday's practice with a left foot strain.  Head coach Terry Stotts did not elaborate on the seriousness of the issue or when Harkless would return.  Portland begins the preseason hosting the Suns on Tuesday.

Ducks' Oliver Has Decided To Transfer

(Eugene, OR)  --  Ducks safety Khalil Oliver's time with the program has come to an end.  Oliver started the Ducks' opener, but hasn't played since due to an ankle injury.  The redshirt junior told "The Oregonian" that he's decided to transfer.  Oregon continues Pac-12 play on Saturday hosting Cal.  Oregon State faces Washington in Corvallis the same day.

High School Volleyball

In high school volleyball action last night, top ranked Summit in the 5A division swept Redmond 3-games to none. 3rd ranked Bend beat 9th rated Ridgeview 3-1.
The Lady Ravens won the first set 25-16, but the defending 5A Champion Lady Lava Bears roared back to win three straight.

#1 ranked Sisters went on the road and scored a Class 4A sweep beating Elmira with a straight set win. Crook County evened up its record at
6-and-6 as the Cowgirls blanked Madras 3-zip.

Elsewhere, Coquille shutout La Pine 3-nill, and top-ranked Culver beat Stanfield in the 2A division, 3-games to none.

Blazers Continue Camp

(Tualatin, OR)  --  The Blazers continue training camp as they gear up foe the upcoming season.  Portland begins preseason play next Tuesday when they host the Phoenix Suns.   The regular season tips off on October 18th at Phoenix.

High Ranking Adidas Official Arrested As Part Of NCAA Probe

(Portland, OR)  --  A high-ranking Adidas official and another Adidas employee are facing charges in an NCAA basketball corruption probe.  Jim Gatto, a senior executive for the sports apparel company, has been accused of conspiring to bribe high school athletes to play for colleges sponsored by Adidas.  Investigators allege the 47-year-old engineered a 100-thousand-dollar payment to the family of an Indiana high school player to ensure he agreed to play for the University of Louisville.  They also allege he participated in a 150-thousand-dollar bribe to convince another athlete to attend an Adidas-sponsored school in Florida.  The case stems from a two-year FBI investigation that also implicated several basketball agents, college assistant coaches and another Adidas employee, Merl Code.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks will try to rebound from their first loss of the season on Saturday when they host Cal.  Oregon was upset 37-35 at Arizona State in its Pac-12 opener after winning three non-conference games.  The Golden Bears are coming off a 30-20 loss to USC after winning their first three games.

Timbers To Face Earthquakes Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers play Saturday against the Earthquakes in San Jose.  Portland is tied for second in the MLS West with 47 points, one behind Vancouver.  San Jose is sixth with 39 points.  Portland is 4-and-8-and-4 on the road.  The Timbers are coming off a 3-0 home triumph over Orlando City.

Portland State Back In Action

(Portland, OR)  --  After a week off, the Vikings will host Montana in a Big Sky Conference game on Saturday.  Portland State is 1-and-3.  Montana is 2-and-2 after losing to Eastern Washington last week.

On the 4-A hardwood…top ranked Sisters travels to Elmira and Crook County greets Madras in Tri-Valley play. Elsewhere, La Pine hosts Coquille, and Culver, the number-1 rated Class 2-A team hosts Stanfield.

Slimmer Blazers Center Reports

(Tualatin, OR)  --  Center Jusuf Nurkic reports he's shed 34 pounds at Trail Blazers Media Day.  The seven-footer says he weighs 270.  Portland's first preseason game is October 3rd against Phoenix.

College Football

There is no change in this week’s AP Top-5, Associated Press, college football poll, but there is a lot of movement in the top-20.

Alabama and Clemson remain number one and two, with Ohio State third, Penn State fourth, and USC 5th.

The Washington Huskies move up one notch and are rated 6th in the nation followed by Georgia who jumps 4 spots to number-7.

Michigan remains rated 8th and TCU bumps up 4 spots to number-9, and Wisconsin is 10th.

The Cougars who are undefeated at 4-and-0 climb two spots as Washington State is ranked 16th.  Utah is 20th and Oregon falls out of the top-25 after its loss at Arizona State.

This week in the Pac-12 on Friday night, Washington State hosts USC. On Saturday night…The Ducks entertain Cal at 730pm and the Beavers host 6th ranked Washington in a 5pm kickoff in Corvallis.

Quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 281 yards and 3 TD’s in the loss and Duck runningback Royce Freeman rushed for 81 yards and a 12 yard TD run. It was Freeman’s 58th touchdown which ties him with LaMichael James for most TD’s in a career at Oregon, and 2nd most in Pac-12 history.

The Ducks return home after two games and host Cal Saturday night at 730. Cal played USC tough, but the Trojans left Berkley Saturday with a 30-20 win handing the Bears their first loss in 4 games.

7th ranked Washington held Colorado to just one TD as the Huskies beat the Buffaloes, 37-10. Washington State is unbeaten at 4-and-0 as the Cougars beat Nevada, 45-7. And, Stanford ran over UCLA, 58-34.
 

Ducks Upset, Fall From Ratings.

(Tempe, AZ)  --  Oregon jumped into the coaches poll at number-24 last week after a year's absence from the rankings.  The Ducks promptly fell out of the rankings after a 37-35 loss at Arizona State.  It is the third straight year Oregon has lost its PAC-12 opener.  Royce Freeman scored on a 12-yard run for his 54th rushing touchdown, the most in school history.  Oregon was flagged 17 times against the Sun Devils.  Oregon will try to rebound from its first loss of the Willie Taggart era on Saturday, hosting California.

Blazers Forward Injured

(Tualatin, OR)  --  Blazers power forward Noah Vonleh [[ von-LAY ]] suffered a right shoulder injury during a scrimmage at the team's practice facility.  It is questionable whether Vonleh will be ready for the October 18th season opener with the Suns.  He started 41 games last season.

Timbers Shut Out Orlando

Portland, OR)  --   Diego Valeri scored two goals to extend his MLS goal-scoring record to nine consecutive games in the Timbers 3-0 triumph over Orlando City yesterday.  Valeri leads the MLS with 20 goals.  Darren Mattocks had the other Portland goal.  The Timbers play Saturday at San Jose.

Beavers Return To Action Saturday

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers return to the field Saturday, hosting Washington.  Kickoff is 5 p.m.  Oregon State was off last week.  The Beavers are 1-and-3.  Washington is 4-and-0 and moved up to number-six in the coaches' poll after winning 37-10 at Colorado.

Seahawks Fall To Titans

(Nashville, TN)  --  Russell Wilson threw for 373 yards and four touchdowns, but the Seahawks lost 33-27 to the Titans in Nashville.  Tennessee scored 24 points the second half after trailing in the third quarter.  Seattle dropped to 1-and-2.  The Seahawks host the Colts this coming Sunday.  Indianapolis is coming off a 31-28 victory over Cleveland.

We start with prep football, and the opening week of League play in what is officially called ‘Special District-1’…but, we know it more commonly as, and will call it, ‘The I-M-C’

#1 ranked Mt. View looks for a 3-and-0 start as the Cougars entertain Hermiston at Jack Harris Stadium at 7pm. The Summit Storm are on the road at Pendleton, Bend hosts Redmond, and Ridgeview plays a
non-league game at Hood River.

In Class 4-A action tonight…final week of the preseason where Sisters hosts Crook County, and Madras welcomes Valley Catholic of Beaverton.
In other non-league games in the lower levels, La Pine ventures to Burns for a 3A showdown, and Culver entertains Santiam.

Defending 5A Champion Bend beat Redmond in straight sets 3-zip last night in High School Volleyball action, and 4th ranked Ridgeview was shutout at home in 3-games falling to #3 Summit.

Defending 4A Champion Sisters beat Cottage Grove 3-games-to-none in an early season Sky-Em showdown…Elsewhere, Crook County scored its first win of the season with a 3-1 win at Corbett, and Estacada took a 3-zip win at Madras. La Pine blanked Gilchrist 3-0 in an inter-league match, and, 2nd ranked Culver wins big at Heppner in straight sets, 3-zip.

Beavers Open Pac-12 Play

(Pullman, WA)  -- Oregon State opens Pac-12 action with a road game tomorrow at number-22 Washington State.  Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.  The Beavers are 1-and-2.  The Cougars have scored 78 points in beating Boise State and Montana State in their first two games.  OSU lost 35-31 last year to the Cougars.

Oregon Travels To Wyoming

(Laramie, WY)  --  Oregon hits the road tomorrow to visit Wyoming with a 4 p.m. kickoff.  The Ducks are 2-and-0 with Royce Freeman rushing for six touchdowns and ranked eighth nationally with 303 rushing yards.  The Cowboys are 1-and-1.  Oregon went 1-and-5 on the road last season.  Wyoming has not defeated a Pac-12 team since beating UCLA 24-21 in the 2004 Las Vegas Bowl.

Several Blazers Working Out Early

(Portland, OR)  --   While the Trail Blazers do not officially begin training camp until Tuesday, September 26th, several players are already working out at the Moda Center.  The preseason tips off on October 3rd when the Blazers host the Suns.  Portland is expecting immediate contributions from rookies Caleb Swanigan and Zach Collins, a seven-foot center from Gonzaga who was the 10th overall pick in the draft.

Seahawks Preparing For 49ers

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are preparing for Sunday's home opener against the 49ers.  Cornerback Richard Sherman sat out his second straight Seahawks' practice with a hamstring injury.  He has never missed a game since entering the league in 2011.  Seattle lost its opener 17-9 at Green Bay.  Russell Wilson passed for only 158 yards and no touchdowns against the Packers.  The 49ers made only 13 first downs in losing their home opener 23-3 to Carolina.

Timbers Visit Real Salt Lake Tomorrow

(Sandy, UT)  --  The Portland Timbers play at Real Salt Lake tomorrow.  The Timbers have won their past four MLS games and top the Western Conference with 44 points.  Real Salt Lake sits in eighth with 35 points.  Portland lost 4-1 to Salt Lake on July 19th.

La Pine hosts Gilchrist in a non-league match, and 2nd ranked Culver tangles with #14 Heppner on the road in the 2A division.

Blazers' Media Day Scheduled For Sept. 25th

(Portland, OR)  --  The Blazers will host their 2017 Media Day on Monday, September 25th at the Moda Center.  Training camp kicks off the next day.  The preseason begins on October 3rd when the Blazers host the Suns.  In other team news, the Blazers signed rookie guard Isaiah Briscoe to a training camp deal.  Briscoe averaged 12.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 36 games at Kentucky last season and went undrafted this spring.
 

Timbers Visit Real Salt Lake Saturday

(Sandy, UT)  --  The Portland Timbers pay a visit to Real Salt Lake on Sunday.  The Timbers are first in the Western Conference with 44 points.  Real Salt Lake sits in eighth with 35 points.  Portland has five regular season games left.

College Football Preview

(Undated)  --  In college football action on Saturday, Oregon hits the road to visit Wyoming.  The Ducks are 2-and-0 so far in the Willie Taggart era with wins over Southern Utah and Nebraska.  Oregon State opens Pac-12 action as they travel to face number-22 Washington State.  The Beavers are 1-and-2 this season.

Seahawks Preparing For 49ers

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are preparing for Sunday's home opener against the 49ers.  Richard Sherman, Terence Garvin and K.J. Wright all missed practice yesterday.  Running back Thomas Rawls was a full participant after missing last week's loss to the Packers with an ankle injury.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks are back on the practice field as they get set to visit Wyoming.  The game will be Willie Taggart's first road test as the head coach of the Ducks.  Oregon is 2-and-0 following wins over Southern Utah and Nebraska in Eugene.  Wyoming bounced back from a week one loss to beat Gardner-Webb.  Oregon opens the Pac-12 schedule a week from Saturday at Arizona State.

Beavers Open Conference Play At Washington State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers hit the road this weekend to open up conference play in Pullman against Washington State.  The Beavers are 1-and-2 as they take on Top-25 opponents in four of their next five games.  Following Washington State, OSU will host defending conference champion Washington in Corvallis.

Rams Sign Hekker To Two-Year Extension

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Los Angeles Rams will be keeping punter Johnny Hekker around beyond this season.  They've signed the 27-year-old to a two-year contract extension.  Hekker initially inked a six-year extension in 2014 and is now under contract through 2022.  ESPN reports the Oregon State product is guaranteed 10-million-dollars, the most ever for a punter.  Hekker has led the league in punting the last two seasons.  His average of 46.9 yards per punt ranks third all-time in NFL history.

Former Seahawk Brandon Browner Arrested In L.A.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner has found himself in some legal trouble.  Browner was arrested Monday in Los Angeles County on suspicion of criminal threats which is a felony.  He played with the Seahawks from 2011-2013 and won a Super Bowl with New England in 2014.  After spending the 2015 season in New Orleans, Browner signed with the Seahawks last offseason but was cut in the spring.

Beavers Open Conference Play At Washington State

(Corvallis, OR)  -- The Beavers hit the road this weekend to open up conference play in Pullman against Washington State.  The Beavers are 1-and-2 as they take on Top-25 opponents in four of their next five games.  Following Washington State, OSU will host defending conference champion Washington in Corvallis.

Timbers Top NYCFC

(New York, NY)  --  Diego Valeri scored in the 44th minute as the Portland Timbers dropped New York City FC, 1-0, on Saturday.  The Timbers are now first in the Western Conference with 44 points.  Portland visits Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

Beavers Fall To Minnesota

(Corvallis, OR)  -- The Beavers couldn't contain Minnesota's running game in a 48-14 loss on Saturday in Eugene.  The Gophers rushed for 253 yards and five touchdowns. Jake Luton threw for 135 yards and a score for the 1-and-2 Beavers.  Oregon State visits Washington State on Saturday.

Oregon Steamrolls Nebraska

(Eugene, OR)  --  Justin Herbert tossed three touchdowns and Royce Freeman ran for two more as Oregon downed Nebraska, 42-35, in Eugene on Saturday.  The Ducks led 42-14 at halftime.  The defense racked up four interceptions as the Ducks moved to 2-and-0 under first-year head coach Willie Taggart.  The Ducks visit Wyoming on Saturday.

Packers Outlast Seahawks In Opener

(Green Bay, WI)  --  Aaron Rodgers threw for 311 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown to Jordy Nelson, as the Packers topped the Seahawks 17-9 at Lambeau Field.  Russell Wilson finished 14-of-27 for 158 yards and a fumble for Seattle, which hasn't won at Lambeau Field since 1999.  Wilson also led the team with 40 rushing yards.  The Seahawks host the 49ers on Sunday.

Beavers Take On Minnesota

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State faces off with Minnesota tomorrow night in Corvallis.  The Beavers are 1-and-1 after beating Portland State last week.  Minnesota enters at 1-and-0. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.

Ducks Host Nebraska

(Eugene, OR)  -- The Ducks look to move to 2-and-0 as they host Nebraska at Autzen Stadium tomorrow.  Oregon steamrolled Southern Utah, 77-21, to win in Week One.  The Cornhuskers are also 1-and-0 after a season-opening win over Arkansas State.  Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m.

Timbers Visit NYCFC Tomorrow

(New York, NY)  --  The Portland Timbers visit New York City FC tomorrow at Yankee Stadium.  Portland is second in the Western Conference with 41 points, while New York City is second in the East with 50 points.  The game starts at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Blazers Offer Goodwin Camp Invite

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are bringing in guard Archie Goodwin to training camp.  Goodwin has been invited to try out with the team.  The 22-year-old was the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, but has bounced around the league with stints in Phoenix, New Orleans and Brooklyn.

Emeralds Eliminate Hops

(Hillsboro, OR)  -- The Hillsboro Hops' 2017 season is over.  The Hops fell to the Eugene Emeralds, 10-4, in the Northwest League playoffs on Thursday, ending the three-game series.  Reliever Breckin Williams was charged with the loss.

Ducks Optimistic Game Will Go On

(Eugene, OR)   --  Officials remain optimistic the Oregon home game Saturday against Nebraska will go on despite 14 large wildfires in the state.  There remains a smoke air quality alert for the area.  The Ducks practiced outside on their complex fields Wednesday after busing the previous day to Florence for a workout.  Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Autzen Stadium, pre-game at 12:00 noon on KBND.

Oregon State, Minnesota Clash

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State will try to win its second straight game Saturday when it hosts Minnesota.  The Beavers nipped Portland State 35-32 this past weekend to even their record at 1-and-1.  The Golden Gophers have not played since August 31st when they beat Buffalo 17-7.

Beavers To Play St. John's

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers will play St. John's on Thanksgiving Day in a nationally televised game at Orlando, Florida.  Oregon State released its non-conference basketball schedule, which includes seven games at Gill Coliseum and a December 16th contest in Portland against St. Louis.  The first game is November 10 against Southern Utah.  The final non-conference game will be December 21st at Kent State.

Nicholson Bound For China

(Portland, OR)  --  Forward Andrew Nicholson, who was waived by the Trail Blazers last week, has signed with a Chinese team.  Nicholson signed with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association.  The Blazers acquired Nicholson in a July 25 trade that sent Allen Crabbe to the Brooklyn Nets.  He was the 19th overall pick in the 2012 draft and has also played with the Magic and Wizards.

Timbers Play At Yankee Stadium Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will play the New York City FC on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.  It will be the Timbers' first action since a 1-1 draw on August 27th at Seattle.  Portland is second in the MLS Western Conference with 41 points, one behind the Sounders.  Portland is 3-and-7-and-4 on the road.  New York City is 10-and-1-and-3 at home after a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City.

Emeralds Top Hops In Northwest League Playoffs

(Eugene, OR)  --   Gustavo Polanco singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Emeralds edged by the Hillsboro Hops 3-2 in Eugene.  It was the first game of a best-of-three series in the Northwest League playoffs.  Hops pitcher Brian Schaffer struck out six and allowed one hit in three scoreless innings.  The series switches to Hillsboro for game two tonight.

Vikings Linebacker Earns Honor

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State linebacker Beau Duronslet was named the Big Sky defensive player of the week. He made eight tackles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in the 35-32 loss to the Beavers this past weekend.  After road losses to Brigham Young and the Beavers, the Vikings are idle this week.  They will host UC Davis on September 16 for their first home game.

Hops Get Ready For Playoffs

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Emeralds and the Hillsboro Hops open the Northwest League playoffs tonight in Eugene in a best-of-three series. The Emeralds are a Cubs' farm club and finished with a 39-37 record.  The Hops are a Diamondbacks affiliate and topped the South Division with a 41-35 record.  Game two will be played tomorrow at Hillsboro.  Hops first baseman Pavin Smith finished third in the league with a .318 batting average and a .401 on-base percentage.

Beavers To Host Gophers

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers will host the Golden Gophers on Saturday.  Oregon State beat Portland State 35-32 to even its record at 1-and-1.  Minnesota defeated Buffalo 17-7 on August 31st to kickoff its season.  Tyler Johnson caught six passes for 141 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown reception, in the Gophers' victory.

Poor Air Quality Forces Ducks To Move Workout

(Florence, OR)  --  The Ducks will practice today in Florence at Siuslaw Middle School, instead of Eugene.  With Eugene air quality listed as hazardous with four wildfires larger than 20,000 acres in the state, Oregon opted to move the practice about an hour away to the coast.  The Ducks will host Nebraska on Saturday.  Oregon routed Southern Utah 77-21 in its season opener.

Timbers Back In Action Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will play the New York City FC on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.  It will be the Timbers' first game since a 1-1 draw on August 27th at Seattle.  Portland is second in the MLS Western Conference with 41 points.  Portland is 3-and-7-and-4 on the road.  New York City is 9-and-1-and-3 at home.
 

High School Football

Here we go! September is here and,…High School football kicks off the new season tonight, but only one game in the region and that’s La Pine hosting Lost River. The other scheduled games in town have been moved because of the dangerous air quality from the wildfires.

So, defending IMC Champion Summit opens at 6A Clackamas under new head coach Corben Hyatt who takes over Joe Padilla.

The Bend Lava Bears have a tough test in Independence, just west of Salem where they take on 5A semifinalist from last year, Central.

Mt. View travels to South Albany, Redmond ventures to Portland to play Jefferson under new head coach Gene Dales, and Ridgeview plays at Thurston.

In the 4A ranks, Crook County faces Phoenix in Sutherlin, and Madras is at The Dalles. The Sisters Outlaws have a new head coach in Neil Fendall and they travel to Burns.

Culver takes on Illinois Valley at Noon at Roseburg High School, and Gilchrist plays at Bonanza.

Oregon Kicks Off Taggart Era

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks will meet Southern Utah tomorrow in their season opener.  It will be the inaugural Oregon game under Willie Taggart.  He was hired as Oregon's coach in December.  Oregon finished 4-and-8 last season.  Southern Utah is a member of the Big Sky Conference and went 6-and-5 last year.
 

Blazers Opt To Retain Connaughton

(Portland, OR)  --  Pat Connaughton will be a Trail Blazer again this season.  The club faced a Thursday deadline to waive Connaughton before his 1.4-million-dollar salary became guaranteed.  The team opted to keep the 2015 second-round draft pick.  He averaged 2.5 points in 39 games last season.  The Blazers have 14 guaranteed contracts on their roster.

OSU, Portland State Meet Tomorrow

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers will host Portland State tomorrow.  Kickoff is at 11 o'clock at Reser Stadium.  The two last met in 2014, with the Beavers winning 29-14.  Oregon State will try to rebound from a 58-27 loss at Colorado State in its season opener.  Portland State lost 20-6 at Brigham Young in its first game.
