Timbers Facing Revolution Tomorrow

(Portland, OR) -- The Timbers will play on the road tomorrow at the New England Revolution in Foxborough, Massachusetts.  It will be Portland's third match in seven days.  The Timbers snapped a four-game skid with a 2-0 triumph over Toronto on Wednesday at Providence Park.  Portland is fifth in the MLS West with 40 points.

Thunder To Wave Oregon Native Singler

(Oklahoma City, OK)  --  Outlets have reported Oregon native Kyle Singler is being waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Singler, who starred at South Medford High, was to make five-million dollars this year in the final year of his five-year contract.  The Thunder will save more than 23 million dollars in luxury tax and salary with the move.  Singler appeared in only 12 games last year.  He was a 2011 second-round pick out of Duke.

Raiders Knock Off Seahawks

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks came up short in their preseason finale as they fell to the Oakland Raiders 30-19 in Seattle.  The Seahawks will look to turn things around during the regular season after going 0-and-4 during preseason play.  Seattle will kickoff the season on September 9th against the Broncos at Mile High Stadium.

M's Face A's In Game Two

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners look to narrow the gap in the AL West standings as they continue their series with the Athletics tonight in Oakland.  The A's hold a four-and-a-half game lead over Seattle for the AL second wild-card spot.  Mike Leake is scheduled to start for the M's, while Oakland counters with Mike Fiers.

Mariners Stomp A's

(Oakland, CA)  --  Wade LeBlanc tossed seven innings of three-hit scoreless ball as the Mariners stomped the Athletics 7-1 in Oakland.  The M's plated five runs in the first inning and never trailed.  Mitch Haniger stretched the lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning with a solo homer.  Seattle snapped a three-game slide.

QB Gebbia Transferring To Oregon State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Several outlets have reported redshirt freshman quarterback Tristan Gebbia is transferring to Oregon State after leaving Nebraska.  Mike Riley, who was fired as the Cornhuskers head coach after last season, is on the Beavers staff.  OSU head coach Jonathan Smith recruited Gebbia out of high school.  Gebbia will be eligible to play in 2019 after sitting out this season.  He  is the second Husker to transfer to Oregon State, joining linebacker Avery Roberts.

(Portland, OR) -- The Timbers won 2-0 over Toronto FC at Providence Park.  Portland snapped a four-game losing streak.  The victory pushed the Timbers to 40 points and into fifth place.

(Undated)  --  Oregon and Oregon State will kickoff the football season Saturday with new football coaches.  Mario Cristobal will be the third Ducks head coach in as many seasons.  Oregon will host Bowling Green Saturday night in Eugene.  Oregon State is under the direction of Jonathan Smith, a former Beavers quarterback.  Oregon State will open in an afternoon game at third-ranked Ohio State, which will be without coach Urban Meyer, who is suspended for three games.  Portland State will begin its season Friday night at Nevada in Reno.  The Vikings went winless last year.
 

Mariners Fall To Padres

(San Diego, CA)  --  Erasmo Ramirez allowed seven runs in three innings as the Mariners lost 8-3 to the Padres in San Diego.  Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager drove in the Seattle runs.  The Mariners dropped eight games behind AL West-leader Houston.

Seahawks Hosting Raiders In Preseason Finale

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks will host the Oakland Raiders tonight in their preseason finale.  Seattle is winless in its first three exhibition games.  The regular season starts September 9th at Denver.

M's Open Series Tonight In Oakland

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners will open a four-game series tonight against the Athletics in Oakland.  Seattle trails Oakland by five-and-a-half games for the second AL wild card spot.  Wade LeBlanc will start the series opener for the Mariners.

Seahawks Trade For Hundley

(Undated)  --  The Seahawks acquired quarterback Brett Hundley from the Packers.  Seattle sent Green Bay its 2019 sixth-round pick in return.  Hundley is expected to be the backup to starter Russell Wilson.

Seahawks Extend Lockett

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks have extended wide receiver Tyler Lockett's contract for three years.  Outlets report Lockett can earn up to nearly 38-million-dollars with the extension.  He was a 2015 third-round pick out of Kansas State.  Lockett made the Pro Bowl as a rookie as a kickoff and punt returner.

High School Soccer

We kick things off today with soccer and the prep soccer season is officially underway, and after the OSAA reclassification of schools moving to different levels, it appears it will be a tougher challenge for Summit, Bend, and Mt. View moving up to the 6A Greater Valley League.

Summit’s girl’s soccer team has dominated the 5A winning state Titles 6 of the last 8 years, but yesterday the Storm were blanked by Sherwood 5-zip. It was 3 years ago that Sherwood made the jump up to 6A, and now the lady Bowmen have found their mark and that provides some positive hope to the central Oregon teams. Summit hosts Putnam tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Bend defeated Wilsonville, 5-2, but Crook County, who elevates from 4A to the 5A ranks were shutout by South Albany, 9-nill. Crook County plays at Madras Thursday. And, in the 3A division, La Pine was blanked by Lakeview, 5-to-nothing.

High School Volleyball

Indoors on the volleyball hardwood yesterday, the 2-time 5A Champion Bend Lava Bears swept Lebanon, 3-zip. Mt. View edged McNary, 3-2. Crook County took down defending 4A Champion Sisters, 3-1. Madras was a 3-2 winner over Elmira, and Henley shutout La Pine, 3-zip.

Two Former Ducks Starting At QB

(Undated)  --  Quarterbacks Terry Wilson and Travis Jonsen transferred from Oregon in 2017 to seek more playing time.  They have found it.  Wilson was named the starter for Kentucky after playing last year for Garden City, Kansas Juco.  Jonsen has been named a co-starter at Montana State.

M's Play Padres One More Time Today

(San Diego, CA)  --  The Mariners play the Padres one more time this afternoon in San Diego.  It's the finale of their two-game series, with Erasmo Ramirez starting for Seattle and Joey Lucchesi for San Diego.  The M's are five-and-a-half games behind the A's for the second AL wild card spot.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Felix Hernandez gave the Mariners a quality start, but in a 2-1 loss to the Padres in San Diego.  Hernandez allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings, while striking out a season-high nine.  Nelson Cruz homered in the ninth as Seattle avoided a shutout.  The Mariners remain seven games behind AL West-leader Houston.
 

Seahawks' Baldwin Returns To Practice

(Renton, WA)  --  Wide receiver Doug Baldwin is back at practice for the Seahawks, but is still not 100-percent.  He's been out the last month with a knee injury and estimates he's about 80-to-85-percent.  Baldwin added he won't be 100-percent all season, but coach Pete Carroll says he'll play Week One.

Mariners' Servais Gets Diaz Haircut After Wager

(San Diego, CA)  --  Mariners manager Scott Servais [[ SUR-viss ]] is sporting a new haircut.  It's all thanks to closer Edwin Diaz.  The two made a wager in May that Servais would get a fade cut complete with designs, just like Diaz, if he reached 50 saves this season.  Diaz got to 50 on Saturday.

UW, WSU Open Season Saturday

(Undated)  --  Washington and Washington State both kick off the college football season this weekend.  The sixth-ranked Huskies go up against number-10 Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.  The Cougars start on the road Saturday afternoon at Wyoming.

Luton Selected OSU Starting QB

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Jake Luton will be the Oregon State starting quarterback when the Beavers open the season Saturday at Ohio State.  The 6-foot-7 senior started four games last season before a spine fracture against Washington State ended his season.  Sophomores Conor Blout and Jack Colletto competed for the job in preseason.  Tight end Noah Toiai will be out at least a month after suffering a knee injury in a scrimmage last Thursday.

Mariners Put Gonzales On 10-Day DL

(San Diego, CA)  --  Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales is on the 10-day disabled list with a strained neck muscle.  The left-hander was originally slated to start tomorrow's game in San Diego.  The Mariners have recalled outfielder Guillermo Heredia to take Gonzales' roster spot.

Seahawks' Wright Has Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.  Coach Pete Carroll says he was to have had the procedure yesterday, putting his availability for Week One in question.  Wright felt something pop in Friday's preseason loss to Minnesota.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers' losing streak has reached four.  Portland lost 1-0 to the Seattle Sounders on Sunday at Providence Park.  Portland center Julio Cascante gifted the Sounders with an own goal.  Seattle moved ahead of Portland in the MLS West.  Portland remains stuck on 37 points, while Seattle has 38.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks will close out their preseason schedule with a Thursday night game against the Raiders.  Seattle lost 21-20 last Friday at Minnesota.  The Seahawks are winless in their first three exhibition games.  They will kickoff the regular season on September 9th in Denver.
 

Mariners Lose At Diamondbacks

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Mariners managed just six singles and a Mitch Hanigar double in a 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks in Phoenix.  Mike Leake took the loss, giving up five runs over six innings.  Both Seattle runs were unearned.  The Mariners are off today and continue this trip tomorrow in San Diego with Felix Hernandez starting.  The M's trail AL-West leader Houston by six-and-a-half games.

(Eugene, OR)  -- Ducks safety Nick Pickett, who had offseason shoulder surgery, has been dealing with an upper extremity injury.  Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said he expects Pickett will return to full activity soon.  Running back C.J. Verdell has been limited with a leg injury, but is due back soon.

Seahawks Gear Up For Vikings

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Seahawks look to grab their first victory of the preseason as they take on the Vikings tomorrow in Minneapolis.  Seattle has suffered back-to-back losses to open the preseason, while Minnesota is 1-and-1.  The Seahawks will wrap up exhibition play at home against the Raiders a week from today.

Seahawks LB Wagner Defends Thomas

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is in full support of teammate Earl Thomas as he holds out for a new contract.  Wagner addressed the media yesterday and discussed how NFL teams are hesitant to give big contracts to defensive players, despite their high-level performance.  He said "there are amazing players that are not getting paid and at some point you have to make a stand.'

Oregon State Moves Practices To Bend

(Bend, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team has moved its practices from Corvallis to Bend for three days.  The practices will conclude with a noon scrimmage tomorrow that is open to the public at Summit High.  Tight end Noah Togiai is back on the practice field after being limited in earlier drills after offseason ankle surgery.

Seahawks Release Kicker Myers, Punter Ryan

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks' kicking game will look a bit different this season.  They have released kicker Jason Myers and long-time punter Jon Ryan.  Myers lost out in camp to veteran Sebastian Janikowski, while Ryan will be replaced by rookie punter Michael Dickson.

Mariners Get By Astros

(Seattle, WA)  --   Robinson Cano had three hits, including a three-run homer in the eighth inning, as the Mariners beat the Astros 7-4 in Seattle.  Felix Hernandez yielded four runs on five hits over six innings in a no-decision.  Edwin Diaz struck out two in a perfect ninth to log his major league-leading 48th save.  Mike Leake will start tonight for the Mariners as the series continues at Safeco Field.

NFL Suspends Former Seahawk Boykin One Game

(New York, NY)  --  The NFL is suspending former Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin one game.  He was released in March after a report he was under investigation for alleged domestic violence against his then-girlfriend.  Boykin played five games with the Seahawks in 2016.

(Kansas City, KS)  --  The Timbers' losing streak is now at three.  They were shut out 3-nil at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.  Portland is clinging to the sixth and final playoff spot in the West with 37 points, two ahead of Seattle.  The Timbers host the Sounders this coming Sunday.

Mariners Dumped By Dodgers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners were blown out by the Dodgers for the second time in three games, losing 12-1 at Safeco Field.  Seattle won a one-run game in 10 innings on Saturday after getting hammered 11-1 in Friday's opener.  Roenis Elias took the loss.

M's Send Heredia Down

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are sending Guillermo Heredia  to the minors.  The 27-year-old outfielder says manager Scott Servais told him it's because they'll be facing several right-handed pitchers in-a-row.  Heredia is batting just .219 on the season.

Seahawks Fall To Chargers

(Carson, CA)  --  The Seahawks are off to an 0-and-2 start in preseason play.  They lost 24-14 to the Chargers Saturday in Los Angeles.  Russell Wilson was 13-of-21 for 193 yards.  Alex McGough threw a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion for Seattle late in the fourth quarter.

Storm Whip Wings In Regular Season Finale

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm are heading into the playoffs on a three-game winning streak.  They closed out the regular season with an 84-68 win over the Dallas Wings at Key Arena.  Seattle finished with the best record in the league at 26-and-8.  The Storm open the playoffs on Sunday.

Timbers Plan To Acquire Goalie Steve Clark

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are going to be adding a new goaltender.  According to reports, the Timbers are set to acquire Steve Clark after he was waived by DC United earlier this week.  Clark started all but two regular season games for the Columbus Crew from 2014-through-2016 and joined DC United in 2017.  He is expected to back up starting goalkeeper Jeff Attinella in Portland.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm are on their home floor tonight taking on the Liberty.  Seattle owns the best record in the WNBA at 24-and-8.  New York has lost 11 straight and is second-to-last in the league at 7-and-25.  The Storm close out the regular season Sunday night at home against Dallas.

Seahawks Conclude Training Camp

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are moving on from training camp.  Seattle held its final practice of camp yesterday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. The Seahawks will be on the road tomorrow to take on the Chargers in their second preseason game.
 

Oregon Unveils New Uniforms

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon football program unveiled its new uniforms for the upcoming season.  The Ducks will introduce four new jersey designs which are intended to represent head coach Mario Cristobal's principles of no-nonsense, discipline, strength and speed.  Oregon will kick-off the season on September 1st against Bowling Green.

Gordon Lifts M's Past A's In 12th

(Oakland, CA)  --  Dee Gordon broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the top of the 12th inning as the Mariners blanked the Athletics 2-0 in Oakland.  Jean Segura finished 4-for-5 as Seattle avoided the three-game sweep.  James Pazos was credited with the win and Edwin Diaz closed it out for his MLB-leading 47th save.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back on the field to wrap up training camp as the regular season approaches.  Seattle will hold its final practice of training camp today at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.  Seahawks first-rounder Rashaad Penny had surgery to repair his finger and Mike Davis was absent from practice yesterday with a sore toe.

Mariners Reinstate Cano

(Oakland, CA)  --  Robinson Cano is back for the Mariners.  He's been reinstated after completing an 80-game suspension for violating baseball's joint drug agreement.  Cano played first base for Seattle on Tuesday and went 1-for-4 in his return.  The eight-time All-Star is ineligible for the postseason this year due to the suspension.

Robinson Cano Back From Suspension

(Oakland, CA)  --  Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is back in the lineup after serving an 80-game suspension.  The eight-time All-Star was suspended on May 14th after he violated the MLB joint drug agreement.  Cano has racked up 23 RBI and four home runs in 39 appearances with the Mariners this season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks suffered a 19-17 loss to the Colts in their preseason opener at CenturyLink Field.  Russell Wilson completed 4-of-5 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in a brief cameo.  Chris Carson ran for 26 yards on four carries, while rookie first-rounder Rashaad Penny had eight rushes for 16 yards.  Fellow first-year player Shaquem Griffin had six solo tackles and one tackle for loss.

Bend Elks Baseball

Eugene Selected To Host 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  The USATF Board of Directors has selected Eugene as the site to host the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for track and field.  Over 1,000 participants are expected to compete for a chance to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.  The tryouts will begin on June 19th of 2020 and conclude on June 28th at Hayward Field.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks safety Earl Thomas continues to let the world know that he is unhappy in Seattle.  The six-time Pro Bowl defensive back explained why he is disgruntled in an article released by "The Player's Tribune".  In the article, he stated that he wants to receive a new contract or he would like to be traded.  Thomas has not reported to training camp this season as he hopes to secure a new deal.

Bend Elks Baseball

The 54th and final regular season Westcoast League game of the season for the Bend Elks is tonight in Corvallis. The Elks take on the Knights on the home field of the Oregon State Beavers with first pitch set for 630p at Goss Stadium-Coleman Field.

Hernandez Will Start Tonight For M's

(Renton, WA)  --  J.R. Sweezy is returning to the Seahawks. Sweezy, who was the starting right guard on the 2013 Super Bowl championship team, signed with the Seahawks.  He became a free agent after Tampa Bay cut him as a cost-cutting move in June.  He started 14 games last year with the Bucs before breaking his fibula.  The Seahawks waived injured offensive lineman Avery Young.

Football Center Flips From Arizona State To Oregon

(Undated)  --  Center Joey Capra announced on social media he is coming to Oregon.  He had previously committed to Arizona State, before switching.  He plans to graduate in December and enroll early at Oregon.  The California high school lineman is listed at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds.  His brother Jacob plays for the Ducks.

Oregon State Opens Camp Friday

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State will begin preseason football practices on Friday.  The Beavers will have a new head coach, Jonathan Smith.  Senior Jake Luton returns at quarterback, but is coming off a serious back injury that restricted him to four games last season.  Oregon State will open the season on September 1st at Ohio State.

Mariners Lose To Astros

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mike Leake gave up a go-ahead, two-run homer to Evan Gattis in the sixth and the Mariners went on to lose 5-2 to the Astros at Safeco Field.  Jean Segura homered and Mitch Haniger singled in a run for Seattle, which had won its previous two games.

Timbers Welcome Philadelphia Union

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers look to make it 15 straight MLS games without a loss as they welcome the Philadelphia Union to Providence Park on Saturday.  The Timbers are fourth in the Western Conference with 34 points and Philadelphia is seventh in the East with 27 points.  The MLS All-Star Game is tonight in Atlanta.
 

Mariners Get Maybin From Marlins

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners have a new outfielder.  They acquired Cameron Maybin from the Marlins before the non-waiver deadline.  He's hitting .251 with three home runs.  The M's gave up minor league infielder Bryson Brigman and international bonus pool.

M's Finish Series With 'Stros Today

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners and Astros finish their three-game series this afternoon at Safeco.  Wade LeBlanc is slated to start for Seattle and Dallas Keuchel [[ KYE-kull ]] for Houston.  The M's fell four back in the AL West, but still hold the second AL wild card spot.

Seahawks' Baldwin Out A Couple Weeks With Knee Injury

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks will be without wide receiver Doug Baldwin for a while.  Coach Pete Carroll says he's expected to be out a couple weeks with a knee injury.  Baldwin has been sidelined for days.  He had 991 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
