(Detroit, MI)  --  The Mariners have a series win under their belts, after earning a 2-1 decision over Detroit.  Kyle Seager and Ben Gamel each drove in a run for Seattle.  Edwin Diaz got his third save of the year.  The Mariners will begin a three-game series in Cleveland this evening.

(Portland, OR)  --  There's not much change in Portland-area gasoline prices ahead of the weekend.  Triple-A's latest survey shows the average for regular is two-77 a gallon, about the same as a week ago.  At this time last year, regular gas in the Portland Metro averaged two-28 a gallon.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The top-ranked Oregon State Beavers baseball team plays host to USC today to open a three-game series at Goss Stadium.  The Beavers are 32-and-3 on the year and beat UCLA, 2-1, its last time out on Sunday.  Tuesday's Civil War matchup with Oregon was rained out.  The first pitch is tonight at 5:35 p.m.

(Dallas, TX)  --  In a matchup of the top two teams in the Western Conference, the Timbers will visit FC Dallas tomorrow.  Portland leads the MLS with 16 points in the standings, while FC Dallas is second in the conference with 14 points.  Dallas is also the only unbeaten team left in the MLS.
 

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft is in the history books.  Cleveland selected Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with the first overall choice last night.  The three day-event will last through tomorrow.  Top local prospects who should hear their names called include Oregon tight end Pharaoh Brown and Oregon State guard Sean Harlow.

(Renton, WA)  --  The NFL Draft will resume today, and the Seattle Seahawks have yet to make their first choice.  What the Hawks have done is get three extra picks and keep cornerback Richard Sherman.  Trades with the Falcons and the 49ers have enabled Seattle to acquire one extra third-round pick, one extra fourth-rounder, and an additional pick in the seventh, giving it a total of ten picks.  General manager John Schneider will be overseeing six picks for the Seahawks today during the second and third rounds.

On the local softball diamond…in 4-A action, Crook County’s girls have put together 9 straight wins after beating Madras yesterday, 13-3.

The 6th ranked Cowgirls lead the Tri-Valley Conference with a 9-0 league mark, and 13-4 overall. The loss drops Madras into a third-place tie. Same two teams meet tomorrow afternoon at 430 in Jefferson County.

In the IMC…Mt. View is making a run at Ridgeview for the League crown as the lady Cougs won their 4th straight game beating Summit yesterday, 7-4.

8th ranked Mt. View is just one-half game behind the 4th rated lady Ravens atop the IMC as the Cougs took two games last week from Ridgeview and will go for a 3-game sweep of Summit tomorrow on the west side.

In Baseball action…Summit, led by Alex Bailey’s 3-hit attack overpowered Mt. View Wednesday, 8-6. The Storm avenged a 5-2 home loss to the Cougars Tuesday, and will host Mt. View tomorrow in the rubber game of the 3-game weekly series.

Meantime, Bend crushed Redmond, 13-3. The Lava Bears go for the series sweep of the Panthers today at Bend High. Only 1½ games separate Bend, Summit and Mt. View for the IMC Championship with 3 weeks remaining in the regular season.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers unveiled an expansion plan for Providence Park yesterday that will add about four-thousand new seats to the east side of their home field.  The 50-million dollar project is privately financed.  With a growing fanbase, the Timbers have been looking to expand seating at Providence Park since last year.  The vertical expansion design should raise the stadium's capacity to 25-thousand.
 

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft kicks off tonight in Philadelphia.  The three day-event will last through Saturday.  Top local prospects who should hear their names called include Oregon tight end Pharaoh Brown and Oregon State guard Sean Harlow.

(Dallas, TX)  --  In a matchup of the top two teams in the Western Conference, the Timbers will visit FC Dallas on Saturday.  Portland leads the MLS with 16 points in the standings, while FC Dallas is second in the conference with 14 points.  Dallas is also the only unbeaten team left in the MLS.

(Renton, WA)  --  "Beast Mode" is no longer a Seahawk.  The running back is coming out of retirement to play for the Raiders, agreeing to a two-year deal worth up to 16-point-five-million dollars if all incentives are reached.  The trade includes the Seahawks swapping their 2018 sixth-round draft pick for the Raiders' fifth-round pick in 2018.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Blazers plan to part ways with center Festus Ezeli, according to general manager Neil Olshey.  The big man missed the entire year due to a knee injury, and he underwent surgery in March.  Ezeli's contract for next year is non-guaranteed.  He signed with Portland last summer after averaging a career-high seven points and 5.6 rebounds for Golden State in 2015-2016.

(Detroit, MI)  --  One of the hottest hitters in the American League is being treated after suffering an injury.  Mariners rookie outfielder Mitch Haniger had to leave last night's game against Detroit early because of an oblique strain.  Haniger was lifted in the third inning by manager Scott Servais after he winced in pain on a single up the middle.  Haniger could be out at least four weeks.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers enter the offseason seeking help for guards Darnian Lillard and C.J. McCollum.  They acquired center Jusuf Nurkic in a February trade and will seek to build around those three.  Portland went 13-and-3 in March with Nurkic in the lineup to make the NBA postseason.  The Blazers were swept in the first round by the Warriors.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Justin Herbert was the quarterback of the first team and Travis Jonsen of the second team in the Ducks' 12th of 15 spring football practices.  Safety Brenden Schooler remains sidelined with a right hamstring injury.  The Ducks' spring game is Saturday, an 11:00 a.m. kickoff at Autzen Stadium.  The Pac-12 Network.will televise the game.

(Corvallis, OR)  -- A non-conference Civil War baseball game between Oregon State and Oregon was rained out.  A makeup date has not been set.  The two teams are scheduled to meet next Tuesday at Goss Stadium.  The Beavers are ranked number-one with a 32-and-3 record.  The Ducks are 22-and-13.

(San Diego (CA)  -- Brandon McCoy chose UNLV over Oregon.  The 6-foot-11 five-star center recruit from San Diego Cathedral Catholic High had the Ducks among his five finalists.  He averaged 29 points and 13 rebounds as a senior.

(Portland, OR)  --  The first-place Timbers will play Saturday at FC Dallas, the only undefeated MLS club.  Portland is coming off a 2-1 triumph over the Vancouver Whitecaps.  Portland tops the Western Conference with 16 points, while Dallas is second with 14 points.

(Detroit, MI)  --  The Mariners are losers of four of their last five games, after getting mauled by the Tigers in Detroit, 19-9.  Felix Hernandez left with a sore shoulder after giving up four runs on six hits in only two innings.  The Tigers surged for nine runs in the fifth inning to ensure the win.  The two teams will play again tonight.

( Eugene, OR)  --  Kenny Wooten Junior has committed to Oregon basketball.  Wooten is a six-foot-eight four-star forward recruit from Las Vegas Trinity International Schools.  He recently decommitted from Arizona State.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers surrendered 45 points in the first quarter as the Warriors breezed to a 128-103 victory to complete a four-game sweep in the opening round of the NBA playoffs.  Damian Lillard paced Portland with 34 points.  Al-Farouq Aminu netted 25 points.  C.J. McCollum missed his first nine shots and finished with six points.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider is indicating that a trade for outspoken cornerback Richard Sherman isn't going to happen.  Schneider says while a possible trade isn't totally off the table, the team has "kind of moved past" that notion for now.  The GM says Sherman was participating yesterday in voluntary offseason workouts at the Seahawks' practice facility, as were defensive backs Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks' spring football game is Saturday, an 11 a.m. kickoff at Autzen Stadium.  It will be the first Oregon spring game for coach Willie Taggart.  Oregon hired Taggart from South Florida.  The school fired Mark Helfrich after a 4-and-8 season.  The Pac-12 Network.will televise the game.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers will need to win tonight against the Warriors at the Moda Center to continue in the NBA playoffs.  The Warriors won 119-113 Saturday and are up 3-and-0 in the opening round.  C.J. McCollum had 32 points and Damian Lillard 31 in the loss.

(Portland, OR)  --  Darlington Nagbe and Darren Mattocks scored as the Timbers beat the Whitecaps 2-1 Saturday in Portland.  The Timbers are 5-2-and-1 with 16 points in the MLS standings.  The Timbers will play Saturday at FC Dallas.  Dallas is the only unbeaten team in the league.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers, who are on the brink of elimination from the Western Conference playoffs, say center Jusuf Nurkic has been ruled out for Game Four tonight against Golden State.  Nurkic returned Saturday night with limited playing time in Portland's Game Three loss.  Head coach Terry Stotts says while Nurkic put in a brave effort, the appearance didn't do any further damage to his fractured leg.  Tip-off tonight at the Moda Center is set for 7:30.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks' spring football game is scheduled for Saturday, an 11 a.m. kickoff Autzen Stadium.  It will be the first Oregon spring game for new coach Willie Taggart.  The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Top-ranked Oregon State won 2-1 at UCLA to win the weekend series.  Michael Gretler's RBI single in the ninth lifted the Beavers to the victory.  Oregon State is 32-and-3 and 16-and-2 in the Pac-12.  Oregon State opens an eight-game homestand tomorrow in Corvallis against Oregon.
 

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners' three-game losing streak is over, after Seattle routed Oakland, 11-1, to salvage a win from their four-game series.  Nelson Cruz had five RBI for the M's, including a three-run homer in the seventh inning.  Yovani Gallardo  earned his first win of the season, allowing one run on four hits and getting seven strikeouts over six-and-a-third innings.  Seattle will visit Detroit for a three-game series, starting tomorrow evening.

(New York, NY)  --  Seahawks fans now have access to the team's 2017 schedule.  It will open in Green Bay against the Packers, and will include four primetime contests.  Three of those games will be at CenturyLink Field, against the Colts, the defending NFC champ Atlanta, and the Philadelphia Eagles.  The Hawks will play at Jacksonville in December in a game whose kickoff is slated for 10 a.m. Pacific time.

(Portland, OR)  --  After losing the first two playoff games on the road to the Warriors, the Trail Blazers will get to face them on their home court tomorrow in Game Three.  The Trail Blazers went 25-16 at the Moda Center during the regular season.  Portland is down 2-0 in the best-of-seven first-round series.  Kevin Durant's status is unknown after he missed Game Two for Golden State.
 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The top-ranked Oregon State Beavers baseball team opens a three-game series tonight at UCLA.  The Beavers are led by right-hander Jake Thompson, who is 8-and-0 with a 1.03 ERA, and left-hander Luke Heimlich, who is 5-and-1 with a 0.83 ERA.  OSU is 30-and-2 on the year and 14-and-1 in the Pac-12.  The Bruins are 17-and-16.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  Center Kavell Bigby-Williams has asked for and received a release to transfer from the Ducks basketball team. He is weighing his options, but a school release said Bigby-Williams has not decided whether he will transfer.  He will meet with coach Dana Altman next week.  He averaged three points after transferring in from a junior college.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners will try to bounce back tonight against Oakland, after losing to the A's to start their four-game series, 9-6.  Taylor Motter had two RBI for Seattle, slamming a two-run homer in the sixth inning.  Mariners starter James Paxton allowed five runs on nine hits over four-and-a-third innings.  The two teams will play again tonight in Oakland.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps tomorrow in MLS play. Portland is first in the Western Conference with 13 points and is 2-1-and-1 at home this year.  Portland is coming off a 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City.  Vancouver has seven points in the standings.

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  Former Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to first and second degree forgery.  A Washington County judge handed down the sentence after Lyerla admitted to using counterfeit cash at a 7-11 store and a Dotty's deli.  Lyerla caught 34 passes for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns in 27 career games for the Ducks, but off-the-field issues derailed his playing career.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Warriors made easy work of the Trail Blazers, coming away with a 110-81 win at ORACLE Arena in Game Two of their Western Conference first round series.  Golden State held Portland to 33.3-percent shooting from the field, with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combining to go 9-of-34 after monster Game One performances.  Portland trails the series 2-0 and will host Game Three on Saturday.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Trail Blazers will look to even things up in Game Two of their first-round playoff series with Golden State tonight in Oakland.  C.J. McCollum piled up 41 points in Sunday's Game One loss.  Portland seeks revenge after being eliminated by the Warriors in last year's conference semifinals.  TIpoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Oracle Arena.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon forward Jordan Bell is going pro.  The 6-foot-9 forward announced Tuesday morning that he will forgo his senior season with the Ducks and enter the NBA Draft.  Bell averaged a career-high 10.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, helping Oregon reach the Final Four for the first time since 1939.  He joins Tyler Dorsey and Dillon Brooks, who entered the draft on last week.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners' four-game winning streak is at an end, after Seattle was shut out by Miami, 5-0.  Mitch Haniger broke up a possible no-hitter by doubling off Kyle Barraclough [[ BARE-uh-clow ]] in the 9th for Seattle.  The Mariners will try to win the series when they wrap it up with the Marlins this afternoon at Safeco Field.

(Spokane, WA)  --  Another member of the Gonzaga men's basketball team is going pro early.  Junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss says he'll declare for the NBA Draft and has hired an agent.  Williams-Goss says he accomplished his three main goals at Gonzaga, which were to earn his degree, improve his game and help his team make it to the Final Four.  Gonzaga freshman Zach Collins also declared earlier this month he would enter the NBA Draft.
 

Oregon State maintained its stranglehold on the No. 1 spot in the ‘D-1 Baseball’ Top-25 rankings for the fifth consecutive week.

The Beavers went on the road last week and took two of three from Pac-12 contender, and foe, Washington to improve to 30-2 overall, and 14-1 in the conference five games ahead of Arizona and UCLA.

Louisville is ranked second, followed by Clemson, North Carolina, and Texas Tech. Arizona is ranked 7th…Cal State Fullerton 8th. Other Westcoast teams in the Top-25 is Long Beach State rated 17th, and San Diego 25th.

Next up for the Beavers, they will travel to face UCLA on Friday while the 23-and-10 Oregon Ducks play at Portland tomorrow night before hosting Stanford Friday.

On the Softball side….Arizona is ranked third nationally behind Florida and Auburn. UCLA is rated 6th and the Lady Ducks of Oregon drop to 7th with a 37-and-4 record. The Ducks travel to challenge #3 Arizona on Friday.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are riding a winning streak of four games after defeating Miami, 6-1.  Both Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz homered in the first inning to send Seattle on its way last night.  Ariel Miranda pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits and recording five strikeouts.  The Mariners and Marlins will play again tonight at Safeco Field.

I-M-C Prep baseball continues league play tomorrow with Summit leading the League by 2-games better then Bend. The Storm are 6-and-0 and the Lava Bears 4-and-0. The two collide this week for a 3-game series starting tomorrow at 430pm at Summit High School, then Wednesday at Bend, and Friday back to west side.

Meantime, top-ranked Sisters split with Cottage Grove Friday in Sky-Em play. The 13-and-1 Outlaws travel to Sweet Home Friday.

The Mariners overcome a 5-run deficit to sweep the Rangers in Seattle 3-games beating the Rangers yesterday, 8-7. The 9-game home stand continues tonight with the M’s hosting the Marlins.

The Giants drop 3 out of 4 at home to the Rockies. San Francisco has lost 4 of its last 6 games, and heads to Kansas City tomorrow night. And, the A’s were rained out at home hosting Houston for the first time in 3 years. Oakland greets the Rangers tonight.

The Portland Winterhawks were eliminated from the Western Hockey League playoffs Friday night losing in Portland to Kelowna, 6-2. The Hawks eliminated in the series 4-games to one. The Seattle Thunderbirds meet Kelowna in the West semifinals tomorrow night.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon big man Jordan Bell says he still hasn't made a decision regarding the 2017 NBA Draft.  A report from The Vertical stated Bell was going to declare and sign with an agent.  Bell tweeted out "Haven't made a decision yet #fakenews."

(Beaverton, OR)  --  Oregon football held another scrimmage on Saturday at Jesuit High School.  About 3,000 fans were in attendance.  It was the Ducks' seventh of 15 spring practices.
 

(Oakland, CA)  --  Monster performances from the Trail Blazers' starting backcourt wasn't enough as they lost Game One of their first-round series, 121-109, to the Warriors at ORACLE Arena.  C.J. McCollum exploded for 41 points, while Damian Lillard tallied 34.  Draymond Green helped Golden State's defense lock down in the fourth quarter that saw Portland get outscored by 12.  Game Two is in Oakland on Wednesday.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Oregon State had its 23-game winning streak snapped, 3-2, by Washington in Seattle.  The top-ranked Beavers fell to 28-and-2 overall, 12-and-1 in conference play.  The second of the three-game set will be played tonight at Husky Stadium.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon Ducks junior guard Casey Benson is leaving the program.  Benson plans to graduate from Oregon this spring and transfer to play immediately elsewhere.  He scored 4.9 points and added 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game during his junior season.   Dillon Brooks and Tyler Dorsey announced they will enter the NBA draft earlier this week.

(San Antonio, TX)  --  The Blazers are preparing for Game One of their opening-round series in the NBA Playoffs against the Warriors.  Portland lost all four regular-season matchups.  Sunday's Game One and Wednesday's Game Two will be in Oakland before heading back to Portland for Games Three and Four.

(New York, NY)  --  Oregon State guard Sydney Wiese is making the jump from college to the pros.  Wiese was selected with the 11th overall pick by Los Angeles in last night's WNBA draft.  The six-foot guard is the Pac-12 conference record holder for made three-pointers in a career.  Washington's Kelsey Plum was selected number-one overall.

(Seattle, WA)  --  University of Washington women's basketball standout Kelsey Plum is headed to the WNBA as the first overall draft pick.  Plum, who set scoring records and won numerous awards as a Husky point guard, will play for the San Antonio Stars.  UW center Chantal Osahor will play for Chicago, after the Sky chose her in the second round as the 21st overall pick.  Osahor was only the second player in program history to accumulate one-thousand points and one-thousand rebounds.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Oakland Raiders are reported to be working on restructuring the contract of former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch ahead of a possible trade from Seattle.  The report was issued yesterday in a tweet from NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, who says the Seahawks have given Lynch and his agent permission to discuss with the Raiders alterations to the three-year, 31-million pact Lynch signed with Seattle before the 2015 season.  Trade talks between Seattle and Oakland can start after the contract is reworked.  Lynch announced his retirement following the 2015 season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Oregon State Beavers baseball team hits the road today to open a three-game set with the Washington Huskies in Seattle.  The Beavers are 28-and-1 on the season and are the top-ranked team in the country.  First pitch is at 6 p.m. from Husky Ballpark.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon Ducks junior forward Dillon Brooks is going pro.  He announced through a video on Positionless.com that he will skip his senior season and enter the 2017 NBA Draft.  Brooks led the Ducks in scoring this past season at 16.1 points per game, helping Oregon reach the Final Four for the first time since 1939.  He joins sophomore guard Tyler Dorsey, who entered the draft on Monday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers ended the regular season with a 103-100 loss to the Pelicans last night.  The Blazers allowed the Pelicans to rally in the fourth quarter and snap their five-game losing streak. Shabazz Napier scored a team-high 25 points as Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum sat out due to rest.  Portland has locked up the final playoff spot in the West and will face the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in round one.  Game One is Sunday in Oakland.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are looking for answers after losing another series to AL West rival Houston.  The Astros scored three runs in the seventh inning and three in the eighth last night to defeat Seattle, 10-5.  Taylor Motter and Mike Freeman each homered for the Mariners.  Seattle will have the day off before starting a three-game home series with Texas tomorrow night.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers attempt to defend Providence Park on Saturday as Sporting Kansas City comes to town.  Portland is first in the Western Conference with 13 points and is 4-1-and-1 overall this season.  Sporting KC enters with nine points.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are bringing in former Oregon Ducks pass-rusher Dion Jordan.  Multiple outlets report the Seahawks have signed the defensive end after he was released by the Miami Dolphins on March 31st.  The former third overall selection hasn't played since 2014 due to several suspensions for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.  He was inactive all of last season despite being eligible to return.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers close out the regular season tonight at home.  The playoff-bound Blazers host the New Orleans Pelicans.  Portland will face top-seeded Golden State in the first round of the NBA Playoffs next week.  Tip from the Moda Center at 7:30.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The nation's top-ranked female runner is committing to Oregon.  Lauren Rain Williams is joining the Ducks track program.  Williams is the fastest 200-meter runner in the United States.  She originally signed a national letter of intent with USC, but de-committed.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Only Mother Nature can slow down the top-ranked Oregon State baseball team.  OSU's home contest against Gonzaga was cancelled due to rain last night.  The Beavers have won 23 straight contests and are 28-and-1 overall.  Up next, OSU will play Washington in Pac-12 play tomorrow.

(Spokane, WA)  --  Gonzaga freshman forward Zach Collins says he's turning pro.  The seven-foot, former McDonald's All-American has declared for the NBA Draft and says he intends to hire an agent later.  Collins helped lead the Zags to their first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance and a spot in the championship game against North Carolina.  Zach's father, Mike, tells the "Spokesman-Review" his son is projected to be anywhere from the eighth to the 20th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners will try to win their series against Houston tonight after last night's 7-5 loss to the Astros.  Seattle starter Ariel Miranda gave up four runs on seven hits over five-and-two-thirds innings in taking the loss.  Robinson Cano had two RBI.  The Mariners and Astros will complete their series tonight at Safeco Field.

(Portland, OR)  --  Noah Vonleh's buzzer-beating layup gave the Trail Blazers a 99-98 win over the Spurs at Moda Center.  Shabazz Napier scored 32 points as Portland won its third straight.  The Blazers are the eighth seed in the West and wrap up the regular season tomorrow at home against New Orleans.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The top-ranked Oregon State baseball program is back on the diamond tonight.  The Beavers wrap up a four-game homestand by hosting Gonzaga at Goss Stadium.  OSU has won a program-best 23 in-a-row, and are 28-and-1 on the year.  
 

(Portland, OR)  --  Barret Peery is the next head men's basketball coach at Portland State.  The two sides agreed in principle on Friday and the deal was finalized over the weekend.  Peery served as an assistant on Herb Sendek's staff at Santa Clara last season, and prior to that coached with Sendek at Arizona State.  He replaces Tyler Geving, who was fired last month after eight seasons.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon guard Tyler Dorsey is taking his game to the next level.  Dorsey has declared himself eligible for the 2017 NBA Draft and plans to hire an agent.  He leaves with two years of eligibility remaining.  The sophomore averaged 14.6 points per game this past season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  After beginning the season one-and-six, the Mariners are off to a good start in Seattle after a 6-0, home-opening shutout of Houston.  James Paxton allowed only four hits and struck out eight over seven innings yesterday.  Nelson Cruz went three-for-four with two RBI.  Seattle and Houston will play again tonight at Safeco Field.

37 year old Bend resident Max King finished runnerup Saturday in the annual Pear Blossom mini-marathon run in Medford. King is a 7-time winner of the race who hadn't competed in the Pear since his last win in 2012. 25 year old Cole Watson, a former Oregon Duck won the race breaking King's record time.

With just 2 games to play in the NBA regular season the Blazers clinch the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference over Denver.

The Nuggets lost at home last night to the Thunder 106-105, and Portland has beaten Denver 3 out of 4 this year, so should they finish tied Thursday, the Blazers win the tiebreaker.

Portland, 40-and-40, entertains the Spurs tonight at 7pm here on Newstalk KBND. The Zers close out the season hosting New Orleans Wednesday night. The Blazers will draw the Warriors in the 1st round of the Playoffs.

The defending State Champion Summit Storm baseball team is off to a 3-and-0 start in the IMC after they swept the 3 game weekly series against Ridgeview. Mt. View took 2 of 3 from Redmond.

This week, Summit battles Redmond, Bend meets Ridgeview, and Mt. View has a non-league game tomorrow hosting The Dalles.

The Sisters Outlaws remain unbeaten at 10-and-0 after sweeping a pair at Sutherlin Saturday. The 3rd ranked Outlaws host Junction City tomorrow afternoon, and a twinbill Friday entertaining Cottage Grove.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have two games left in the regular season.  Portland welcomes the Spurs to the Moda Center tonight.  They close out the year hosting the Pelicans on Wednesday.  The Blazers are 40-and-40.  San Antonio is 61-and-19.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are heading back to the playoffs.  Portland clinched the eighth-seed in the West when the Thunder beat the Nuggets on a 36-foot buzzer-beater yesterday.  The loss eliminated Denver from postseason contention.  The Blazers will play the Warriors in the first round.  Golden State eliminated Portland in six games during the Western Conference semifinals last season.

The record making season for the #1 ranked Oregon State baseball team continues as the Beavers have now won 23 straight. Saturday, it took 16 innings for OSU to nip Utah, 5-4. Yesterday, the Beavs took a 5-1 win.

The Beavers are 28-and-1 overall and host Gonzaga in a non-league match tomorrow night, then travel for the ‘Battle in Seattle’ facing the Huskies Thursday night.

Meantime…the Ducks sweep U-C Irvine 3 games to up Oregon’s record to 21-and-8. The Ducks host the University of Portland tomorrow night, then head to Tucson Thursday to face Arizona.

The 3rd ranked Oregon softball team took a hit over the weekend suffering their first two losses of the season after starting 35-and-0. The lady Ducks salvaged a 3-game series sweep at 9th ranked UCLA by clubbing the Bruins yesterday, 11-to-4. Oregon returns home Thursday to host Washington for a 3-game series.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon held its third of 15 spring practices on Saturday.  The Ducks opened up the session to the public.  They're gearing up for their spring game on April 29th.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State completed a three-game sweep of Utah on Sunday with a 5-1 win in Corvallis.  The Beavers are 28-and-1 and 12-and-0 in the Pac.  They've won 23 straight.  Oregon State hosts Gonzaga tomorrow night.  The Ducks also finished off a three-game sweep with a 7-2 win against UC Irvine on Sunday.  Oregon is 21-and-8 and 5-and-4.  They host Portland tomorrow night.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are hoping a nine-game homestand will turn their fortunes around, after being swept by the Los Angeles Angels.  Seattle had a 9-3 lead heading into the final inning yesterday, but the Angels scored seven runs in the ninth to earn a 10-9 victory.  Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma [[ hee-SAH-shee EE-wah-KOO-mah ]] left the game after six innings after only giving up a run on two hits.  Seattle will start a three-game series with Houston at Safeco Field this evening.
 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State Beavers baseball team is ranked number-one in the "USA Today" Coaches' Poll.  The Beavers have won 20 straight and are off to a school-record 25-and-1 start.  OSU opens a three-game home conference series with Utah today at Coleman Field.  The Beavers are 9-and-0 in Pac-12 play.  Tomorrow they will honor the 2007 OSU team that won the College World Series.

(Eugene, OR)  --  New head coach Willie Taggart will open Oregon spring football practices today and tomorrow to fans.  Today will be the second of 15 spring practices.  The spring game is April 29th.

(Portland, OR)  --  Allen Crabbe swished a career-high eight treys and finished with 25 points as the Trail Blazers rallied to defeat the Timberwolves 105-98 in Portland.  Damian Lillard contributed 22 points.  Portland trailed by 15 points in the third quarter.  The Blazers will host the Jazz tomorrow night.   Portland holds a game-and-a-half lead over Denver for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Timbers are on the road tomorrow as they visit the Philadelphia Union.  Portland is first in the Western Conference with 10 points, while the Union are last in the East with two points.  The Timbers return home April 15th to host Sporting KC.

(Houston, TX)  --  The Seattle Mariners are finally in the win column after defeating the Astros in Houston, 4-2.  Jarrod Dyson and Jean Segura accounted for the scoring in the Mariners' two-run ninth inning to secure their first victory over Houston after three straight losses.  Seattle reliever Dan Altavilla picked up the win.  The Mariners will begin a three-game road series with the Angels tonight.

The Western Hockey League playoffs continue for Portland as the Winter Hawks will face Kelowna in the Quarterfinals, best of 7-game series, beginning Friday and Saturday on the Rockets home ice.

The Hawks will host games-3 and 4 next Tuesday and Wednesday in Portland at Memorial Coliseum.

Portland took out Prince George, 4-games to two, in the opening round to advance. The Hawks played for the W-H-L Championship 4-straight years, 2010-to-2014. Last year Portland lost in the Quarterfinals.
 

Tuesday night non-league college baseball saw Oregon State rally and beat the University of Portland, 4-3 in the wet rose city. Beaver pitchers struck out a record combined 18 Pilot hitters.

The Beavers remain the top-ranked team in the nation and are now
25-and-1, having won 20-straight. OSU ends the 5-game road trip back home in Corvallis Friday when they host Utah in a 3-game series.

On the Big League diamond…the Mariners lose in Houston, 2-to-1.
A pair of Astro home runs the difference in the win. The Giants double up the Diamondbacks, 8-4 in Arizona. And, the A’s nipped by the Angels in Oakland, 7-6.
 

The Blazers can’t hold a tune last night dropping their second straight as the Jazz breeze by Portland 106-87 in Utah. It was the 15th time Portland has had to play back-to-back games this season.

The Blazers now lead by Denver by just one-half game for the final playoff spot in the West.
 
The Nuggets have 5 games remaining, while Portland has 4 to go.

(Bend, OR)  --  Former big league slugger Richie Sexson is taking over coaching duties at Bend's Summit High School.  Sexson replaces another former Major Leaguer in Alan Embree.  He mashed 306 home runs and drove in 943 runs during his 12-year career.

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  The Jazz blew out the Trail Blazers 106-87 in Utah.  C.J. McCollum had 25 points for Portland, which has only a half-game lead on Denver for the last playoff spot in the West.  Damian Lillard finished with 16 points on 5-of-20 shooting in defeat.  The Blazers return home to host the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow night.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are gearing up for their second round Western Hockey League playoff series.  The 'Hawks meet the Kelowna Rockets beginning Friday.  Portland ousted the Prince George Cougars in an upset, 4-2, in a first-round series.

(Beaverton, OR)  --  Timbers players' Vytas and captain Liam Ridgewell are working towards returns to the pitch from injury.  Vytas is recovering from a calf strain, while Ridgewell had a foot sprain.  Both players have missed four-straight games due to the injuries.

(Houston, TX)  --  The Mariners are hoping to salvage a split with the Astros in their four-game series after losing again in Houston, 2-1.  Hisashi Iwakuma gave up one home run each in the third and sixth innings yesterday and took the loss.  Danny Valencia had an RBI in the 4th to account for Seattle's lone run.  The two teams will play again tonight at Minute Maid Park.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  North Carolina is cutting down the nets in Arizona.  The Tar Heels outlasted Gonzaga 71-65 in the NCAA men's basketball national championship game.  UNC won the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in school history.  Joel Berry the Second scored 22 points for the Tar Heels, who closed the game on an 8-0 run.  Nigel Williams-Goss put up 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Bulldogs, who appeared in the title game for the first time in program history.  Gonzaga finishes the season 37-and-2.
 

(New York, NY)  --  Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard is the Western Conference Player of the Month.  Lillard averaged 29.1 points and six assists per game, while helping the Blazers to a 13-and-3 March.  Head coach Terry Stotts was also named Western Conference Coach of the Month.
 

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard's mid-range jumper rimmed out as time expired to clinch a 110-109 win for the Timberwolves at the Target Center.  Lillard finished 7-of-21 from the field for 25 points.  The Blazers are a game-and-a-half ahead of the Nuggets for the eighth spot in the Western Conference.  The Blazers visit the Utah Jazz tonight.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Nick Madrigal is becoming the third straight Oregon State player to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors.  Madrigal went 8-for-20 with three runs scored and five runs batted in last week.  He is in the midst of a 17-game hit streak. The top-ranked Beavers have won 19 straight and meet Portland tonight.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Following their run to the Final Four, the Oregon men's basketball program now waits players' decisions to return or turn pro.  The Ducks have several players that could make the jump to the NBA.  The group is led by Dillon Brooks and also includes Jordan Bell and Tyler Dorsey.

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Trail Blazers are back in action as they take on the Timberwolves in Minnesota.  The Blazers come in at 38-and-38 holding a two game lead over Denver for the final playoff spot in the West.  Minnesota is 30-and-45.  Tipoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Target Center.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  The Ducks season ended in heartbreaking fashion at the Final Four in Glendale.  Oregon failed to secure a rebound on two separate occasions in the final five seconds as they fell to North Carolina 77-76 at University of Phoenix Stadium.  The Tar Heels missed four free throws but pulled down the offensive boards to lock up the victory.  Tyler Dorsey paced the Ducks with 21 points defeat.  North Carolina faces Gonzaga in the National Championship game tonight, 5:20 p.m. tipoff.

(Stanford, CA)  --  The top-ranked Oregon Beavers tied the school record for most consecutive wins by topping the Cardinal 7-0 in Stanford.  The victory was their 19th in-a-row and completed a three-game road sweep.  OSU won 18-straight two previous times in 1951 and 1962.  The Beavers are 24-1 overall this season and 9-0 in the Pac-12.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers now have a three-game home unbeaten streak going, after they battled to a 1-1 draw last night with the New England Revolution at Providence Park.  Diego Valeri tallied his fifth goal of the regular season in the first half.  New England scored the equalizer in the 85th minute.  The Timbers will visit Philadelphia next Saturday.
