(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks tight end Zach Miller is recovering from ankle surgery.  The team announced yesterday that Miller underwent the procedure during the bye week, but it hasn't yet been determined how long he'll be sidelined.  Miller has six receptions so far this season and has been an effective blocker.  The Seahawks are preparing for next Monday night's game against the Redskins in the nation's capital.

The Oregon Ducks remain in fourth place in the weekly college football Coaches Poll, following a bye week.  The Ducks are preparing for a Thursday night battle at home with Arizona.  Alabama, Florida State, and Oklahoma occupy the first three spots in the poll, with Auburn rounding out the Top Five.  UCLA is up to Number Nine, Stanford moved up a notch to 13th, USC rose to 20th, and Arizona State fell from 12th to 24th.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners' season is done after they defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 4-1, in front of more than 40-thousand at Safeco Field.  The sweep of the AL West champs enabled the Mariners to compete to the very end for the second AL Wild Card slot, which Oakland earned with its win over Texas.  Felix Hernandez won the ERA crown by pitching five-plus scoreless innings, and closed out the season with a 15-6 record.  The Mariners finished with 87 wins, 16 more than last season. 

(Toronto, ON)  --  The Mariners' hopes of a Wild Card berth are fading fast, after a 1-0 loss to the Blue Jays in Toronto.  Rookie Taijuan Walker gave up only one run on four hits and struck out six over eight innings, but Seattle managed only three hits.  The Mariners remain three games back in the AL Wild Card race with only four games left in the regular season.  Seattle and Toronto will wrap up their four-game series this afternoon.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers continue to pick up steam in CONCACAF Champions League play, after shutting out Alpha United of Guyana, 6-0.  Jack Jewsbury and Gaston Fernandez scored goals in the first half.  Norberto Paparatto scored twice in the second half, and Michael Nanchoff and Fanendo Adi each tallied one goal.  The Timbers are in sole possession of first place in their three-team group and will play their final match in the group phase on October 21st in Honduras, against CD Olimpia.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks' next game won't be for nearly two weeks, so they're using the time off to nurse some injuries.  Offensive tackle Russell Okung suffered a shoulder strain in the second quarter of the Denver game, but returned in the third quarter.  Head coach Pete Carroll says safety Kam Chancellor is dealing with ankle problems that flared up in the San Diego game, but were improved during the win over the Broncos.  The Seahawks will visit the Washington Redskins for a Monday night game on October 6th.
 

(Toronto, ON)  --  The Seattle Mariners are running out of time to earn a playoff berth, with only six games remaining in the regular season.  Yesterday's 14-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays puts the M's two games back in the race for the second AL Wild Card slot.  Pitcher James Paxton got shelled for nine runs on seven hits over two-and-two-thirds innings.  Seattle and Toronto will play the second game of their four-game series this afternoon.

(Undated)  --  The Oregon Ducks are down one spot in the weekly college football Coaches Poll, after their 38-31 win at Washington State.  The Ducks are fourth in this week's poll, with Florida State, Alabama, and Oklahoma at one, two, and three, respectively.  Auburn rounds out the Top Five.  UCLA remains in tenth place, while Arizona State rose from 13th to 12th, Stanford moved from 15th to 14th, and USC fell from 21st to 22nd.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The 12th Man is celebrating the Seattle Seahawks' thrilling, 26-20 overtime win over the Denver Broncos.  Russell Wilson engineered an 80-yard drive in the overtime period, capped off by Marshawn Lynch's six-yard touchdown run.  Denver sent the game into overtime as Peyton Manning led an 80-yard scoring drive of his own with less than a minute remaining in regulation.  The Seahawks have a bye week before visiting the Washington Redskins for a Monday night game on October 6th.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are two games back in the AL Wild Card race after being shut out by the Los Angeles Angels, 5-0.  Starting pitcher James Paxton pitched six-and-two-thirds scoreless innings before giving up three runs in the seventh.  The Mariners managed only one hit on the night.  Seattle will try to even the four-game series with the Angels tonight.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are closer to advancing in the Champions League tournament after defeating CD Olimpia, 4-2, at Providence Park.  Maximiliano Urruti scored two goals in the match, and Will Johnson and Rauwshan McKenzie each tallied one goal.  The victory puts the Timbers in position to win Group Five of the Champions League.  They'll host Alpha United next Tuesday, and will play in Honduras against Olimpia on October 21st.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are only a game back in the AL Wild Card race after a 13-2 pounding of the Los Angeles Angels.  Seattle collected 14 hits in the rout.  Chris Taylor had three RBI and Austin Jackson, Dustin Ackley, and Mike Zunino each drove in two runs.  The two teams will play the third game of their four-game series tonight in Anaheim.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are falling further back in their bid for an AL Wild Card berth after last night's 8-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Hisashi Iwakuma got shelled for seven runs on six hits over three-and-a-third innings. Humberto Quintero drove in Seattle's only run in the eighth inning.  The Mariners and Angels will play again tonight.

(San Diego, CA)  --  The Seahawks are beginning preparations for a rematch with the Denver Broncos after losing in San Diego, 30-21.  The Chargers' Antonio Gates had three touchdown catches on the day as Seattle dropped to one-and-one on the year.  Russell Wilson was 17-of-25 for 202 yards and two touchdowns, but the Seahawks' defense was on the field for 42 of the game's 60 minutes.  The Seahawks will host the Broncos next Sunday, with kickoff set for 1:25 p.m.

The Oregon Ducks are up a notch in the weekly college football Coaches Poll, following their 48-14 win at home over Wyoming.  The Ducks moved past Oklahoma to take the Number Three slot.  Florida State and Alabama remain at One and Two, respectively, while Auburn rounds out the Top Five.  Other PAC-12 teams in the Top 25 are UCLA at Number Ten, Arizona State at 13, Stanford at 15, and USC, which dropped from 10th to 21st.

(San Diego, CA)  --  The Seahawks will play their first road game of the regular season Sunday when they visit the San Diego Chargers.  Seattle is coming off a convincing, 36-16 win over Green Bay, as it defends its Super Bowl title.  The Chargers began the season with an 18-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.  Kickoff Sunday is set for 1:05 p.m.    
 

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says safety Earl Thomas will no longer handle punt-return duties.  Carroll says wide receiver Bryan Walters will be returning punts, while Thomas will strictly focus on his role as a defensive back.  Thomas muffed a punt reception during last week's game against Green Bay, resulting in a turnover.  Carroll says Walters, who's a backup receiver, has great hands and makes good decisions when returning punts.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are getting ready to host Oakland after losing to the Houston Astros, 5-2.  Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma had a rough night, allowing four runs on six hits over four-plus innings.  Mike Zunino doubled in the Mariners' two runs in the second inning.  Seattle, which is still a half-game back in the race for the second AL Wild Card slot, will begin a three-game series with Oakland tomorrow night at Safeco Field.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks say they've re-signed wide receiver Phil Bates to the practice squad.  Bates was on the active roster for last week's game against Green Bay, but he didn't play.  He was released Saturday, but cleared waivers and was signed to the ten-man practice squad.  Offensive tackle Andrew McDonald was acquired Saturday and filled the active-roster void created by the release of Bates.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are now a half-game back in the race for the second AL Wild Card slot, after dropping a 2-1 decision to the Houston Astros.  Logan Morrison's solo home run in the eighth inning accounted for Seattle's scoring.  Roenis Elias pitched six innings, allowing one run and six hits.  The Mariners and Astros will wrap up their three-game series tonight at Safeco Field.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are still in the lead for the second AL Wild Card berth after defeating the Houston Astros, 4-1.  Brad Miller smacked a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie, and drove in three runs on the night.  Felix Hernandez pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out eight.  Seattle and Houston will play again tonight at Safeco Field.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are off to a good start in defense of their Super Bowl title, following a convincing 36-16 win over the Green Bay Packers.  Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and Marshawn Lynch rushed for two more as Seattle overcame a slow start for the win.  Byron Maxwell intercepted a pass from Aaron Rodgers, who was sacked three times.  The Seahawks will play the Chargers in San Diego on September 14th.

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Mariners' winning streak is now at three games after a 10-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.  Robinson Cano drove in four runs to spark Seattle's onslaught.  Roenis Elias learned his tenth win of the season, giving up one run on seven hits.  Game Two of the four-game series between the Mariners and Rangers will get started at 5:05 this afternoon.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners will continue their road trip tonight in Texas after taking two of three from the Oakland A's.  Kyle Seager and Corey Hart each had a solo homer in the seventh inning to help lift Seattle to a 2-1 win over Oakland yesterday.  Felix Hernandez pitched eight solid innings, giving up a run on three hits.  The Mariners will begin a four-game series with the Rangers this afternoon.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks will begin defense of their Super Bowl title tonight when they host the Green Bay Packers.  The Seahawks are six-point favorites heading into the game, which is the first Seattle-Green Bay contest at CenturyLink Field since the infamous "Fail Mary" game in 2012.  Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners will try to take their series with Oakland this afternoon after earning a 6-5 win.  Rookie starter James Paxton gave up two runs on four hits over seven and two-thirds innings to pick up his fifth victory of the season.  Kyle Seager smacked a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Seattle.  The Mariners and A's will play again this afternoon.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to even their three-game series with Oakland tonight after falling to the A's, 6-1.  Mariners pitcher Chris Young had the shortest start of his career, getting belted for five runs on four hits over just two-thirds of an inning.  Brad Miller had an RBI in the sixth inning for Seattle's only run.  The Mariners and A's will play again tonight in Oakland.
