(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers will try to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs when they face the Clippers tonight at the Moda Center.  Portland leads the best-of-seven series, three games to two.  The series winner will advance to face Golden State in the Western Conference semifinals. Win or lose, Blazers play again Sunday at 12:30.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers continue to prepare for their match against Toronto at Providence Park on Sunday.  Portland is coming off a 1-1 draw against New England on Wednesday.  The Timbers are eighth in the Western Conference with nine points and a record of 2-3-and-3.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The San Francisco 49ers selected Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.  Bucker was named the Pac-12's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.  He also won the Morris Trophy for being the conference's top defensive linemen.  Buckner will reunite with his former college coach, Chip Kelly, who now is the head coach of the 49ers.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are looking to strengthen their offensive front with the acquisition of Texas A&M's Germain Ifedi as the final pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.  Ifedi, who's six-feet-six and weighs 324 pounds, was drafted 31st after Seattle traded the 26th pick in the draft to Denver.  The Seahawks received the 94th pick in the third round for moving down.  Seattle GM John Schneider says the team will have three picks in the third round and nine more in all.
 

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The shorthanded Clippers couldn't hang with the Trail Blazers as they lost, 108-98, at the STAPLES Center in Game Five of their first round series.  Los Angeles didn't have Blake Griffin or Chris Paul and won't again for Game Six on Friday in Portland, as they trail 3-to-2 in the best-of-seven matchup.  C.J. McCollum paced the Blazers with 27 points, and Damian Lillard knocked down five threes on his way to 22.

(Foxborough, MA)  --  Portland's Jack Barmby scored his first MLS goal as the Timbers and Revolution ended in a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium.  After a scoreless first half, Portland took a 1-nil lead on Barmby's goal in the 64th minute.  New England scored the equalizer when Timbers' defender Jermaine Taylor scored an own goal in the 89th minute.  Portland hosts Toronto at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  Terry Porter, the University of Portland's men's basketball coach, has made the first addition to his staff by adding Mike Burns as an assistant coach.  Burns has 22 years of collegiate coaching experience and was most recently the interim head coach at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.  Burns, a Pacific Northwest native, graduated from Central Washington University.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Three members of Oregon's women's lacrosse team have received All-Conference honors.  Carly O'Connell, Cambi Cukar and Ali Scharkey have been selected to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team.  O'Connell and Cukar received first-team honors, while Scharkey was named to the second team.  The sixth-seeded Ducks face third-seeded Colorado in the MPSF Conference Tournament this afternoon in Stanford, California.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Steel will hit the road this weekend to take on the Arizona Rattlers in Phoenix on Saturday.  The Steel will be looking for their first win of the season, but it will be a tough task against undefeated Arizona.  The Rattlers have the league's highest-scoring offense, while their defense has allowed the fewest points this season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  A change is taking place in the Seattle Mariners' ownership.  Nintendo of America is selling most of its interest in the franchise to a group of 17 local minority owners, led by John Stanton.  Stanton will replace the retiring Howard Lincoln as the Mariners' chairman and chief operating officer.  The group will own 90 percent of the club, and Nintendo of America will own ten percent, pending approval by Major League Baseball.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers visit the injury-riddled Los Angeles Clippers in a pivotal Game Five in their first round playoff series.  Portland has won back-to-back games to tie the series at two games a piece.  Clippers guard Chris Paul is out indefinitely with a broken hand and forward Blake Griffin is out for the remainder of the playoffs with a quad injury.  Tip from LA at 7:00.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts is the runner up for the NBA Coach of the Year.  Stotts finished second to Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr.  The honor was won by Kerr, who totaled 381 points to Stotts' 335 points.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Prospects from Oregon and Oregon State await their NFL fates in tomorrow's 2016 Draft.  The Ducks have eight prospects hoping to hear their named called over the three day event, and the Beavers have four draft eligible players.  Former Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner is expected to be selected in the top 10.

(Portland, OR)  --  Al-Farouq Aminu dropped in 30 points as the Trail Blazers beat the Clippers, 98-84, in Game Four of their first round series at the Moda Center.  C.J. McCollum added 19 points for Portland, which evened up the best-of-seven set at two games apiece.  Game Five is Wednesday in LA.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State University broke ground on the new Viking Pavilion on Saturday.  The 50-million-dollar project will renovate the current Peter W. Stott Center to include a 15,000 square foot area for academics and advising.  A new 3,000-seat arena will also be built.  The project is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2018.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will head back home after winning their series with the Los Angeles Angels.  The M's 9-4 win yesterday was the first as a Mariner for Wade Miley, who allowed four runs on six hits.  Kyle Seager, Leonys [[ lee-OWN-is ]] Martin, and Seth Smith each homered for Seattle.  The Mariners will host Houston for a three-game series, starting tonight.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers find themselves down by two games in their NBA playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.  Portland has lost each of the first two games by at least 20 points.  Game Three of the best-of-seven series is tomorrow night at the Moda Center.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State men's basketball team has signed Michael Mayhew, a transfer from Hill College in Texas.  Mayhew averaged 13.7 points per game in his lone season with the Rebels.  He'll have three years of eligibility remaining for the Vikings.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State golfer Krissy Peterson has been named as a first-team selection in the All-Big Sky Conference honors.  Peterson led the Vikings in scoring this season with an average score of 75.3.  The Vikings ended the season with a 10th-place finish at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Wednesday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland men's soccer team has signed Malcolm Dixon, a Division One transfer from the University of Virginia.  Dixon appeared in seven matches for the Cavaliers last season.  He'll have three years of eligibility remaining for the Pilots.

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland has named Cat Wade the Interim Director of Sports Performance.  Wade joined the Pilots as the Senior Assistant Athletic Performance Coach in July of 2011.  Wade's promotion accompanies the name change of the department from Athletic Performance to Sports Performance.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Seattle Mariners are winners of five of their last seven games, after beating Cleveland in ten innings, 10-7.  Robinson Cano slammed a three-run homer in the tenth to allow Seattle to win the three-game series.  Tony Zych picked up the win in relief.  The Mariners will start a three-game road series with the Angels tonight.
 

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Chris Paul tallied 25 points, six rebounds and five assists, leading the Clippers to an easy 102-81 win against the Trail Blazers in Game Two of the first round at the STAPLES Center.  Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead with both wins coming by at least 20.  Portland was held to 34-percent shooting and missed 21-of-26 threes in the loss.  Damian Lillard and Miles Plumlee each put up 17 points for the Blazers, who host Game Three on Saturday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland women's basketball team has signed Jojuan Carrington, a transfer from Diablo Valley College in California.  Carrington averaged a double-double as a freshman for the Vikings, scoring over 16 points and grabbing 10 boards per game.  Carrington was named to the Northern California All-State Team and the Big Eight All-Conference Team in her lone season at Diablo Valley.  She'll be eligible to play immediately for the Pilots.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State Vikings will hold their annual Spring Game on Saturday at Stott Community Field.  A groundbreaking ceremony will be held prior to the game for the Viking Pavilion, the new athletics facility.  Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.  The Vikings open the 2016 regular season against Central Washington at Providence Park on Saturday, September 3rd.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to win their three-game series with Cleveland later today, after winning Game Two, 2-1.  Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker allowed only an unearned run on three hits and struck out six to pick up the victory.  Nori Aoki had two RBI for Seattle.  The two teams will wrap up the series in Cleveland at 9:10 this morning.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  A pair of former Oregon State players are being selected to the Pac-12 All-Century Team.  Outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Michael Conforto join the likes of Barry Bonds and Fred Lynn.  Ellsbury was an All-American and co-league player of the year, while Conforto was a two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year and three-time All-American.

(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland State football player is in trouble with the law.  Sherwood police say Troy Matthew Bacon has been indicted on one count of criminal impersonation of a cop.  Bacon allegedly pulled a woman over last month in Tigard.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Former Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams had an impressive workout for the team holding the top pick in the NFL Draft.  Multiple reports say Adams had a great workout for the Rams in Los Angeles.  In his lone season for the Ducks, Adams passed for over 26-hundred-yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  Carlos Carrasco gave up just one run in six-and-a third innings of work to help the Indians edge the Mariners, 3-2, in Cleveland.  Seattle broke up the shutout in the sixth in a solo shot from Kyle Seager.  Wade Miley couldn't get through the fourth inning for the Mariners, giving up three runs on nine hits.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks came to terms with four more players Monday after signing cornerback Brandon Browner the day before.  Center Patrick Lewis, tight end Cooper Helfet, cornerback Mohammad Seisay and safety Steven Terrell all signed exclusive rights tenders.  Lewis, Helfet and Terrell have all seen playing time for Seattle over the last two seasons, while Seisay spent all of 2015 on injured reserved after being acquired from Detroit.  The team also began its voluntary workout program Monday.

(Renton, WA)  --  All members of the Seahawks' original "Legion of Boom" are back in place.  The team has reached a one-year deal with cornerback Brandon Browner, who posted an Instagram message saying that he's "grateful and can't wait to get back to work."  Browner played for the Seahawks from 2011 to 2013, then played for New England in 2014 and New Orleans last season.  Fellow Legion of Boom member Chris Clemons was signed by the Seahawks on April 1st after playing for Jacksonville over the last two seasons.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team held its annual spring game at Reser Stadium on Saturday.  Junior quarterback Darell Garretson threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns, while Noah Togiai hauled in seven catches for 107 yards.  The Beavers open the 2016 regular season at the University of Minnesota on Thursday, September 1st.

(Waco, TX)  --  The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team was victorious in all six events at the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association's quarterfinal meet to advance to the semifinals.  The second-seeded Ducks defeated sixth-seeded Alderson Broaddus University, 276.38 to 266.  Oregon will face third-seeded Quinnipiac at 3:00 p.m. today for a chance to advance to the NCATA finals.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers open their playoff series against the Clippers on Sunday in Los Angeles.  The two teams matched up four times in the regular season, with Portland winning the first meeting but losing the last three.  The fifth-seeded Blazers finished the regular season with a record of 44-and-38.

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard had a historic season for the Trail Blazers, setting several franchise records while leading Portland to the fifth seed in the Western Conference playoffs.  He became the third Blazer ever, behind Clyde Drexler and Kiki Vandeweghe, to average over 25 points per game.  Lillard also became the first Portland player to finish among the NBA's top 10 in scoring and assists.  His 25.1 points per game were sixth in the NBA, while his 6.8 assists per game were eighth in the league.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Jillian Alleyne has been selected with the 20th overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury.  The senior forward from Fontana, California finished her collegiate basketball career with 92 double-doubles, second most in NCAA history.  Alleyne is currently rehabbing in Eugene with the Ducks' training staff after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in February.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Jamie Weisner and Ruth Hamblin were selected with back-to-back picks in the second round of the WNBA Draft.  Weisner went 17th overall to the Connecticut Sun, while Hamblin was picked at number-18 by the Dallas Wings.  The Beavers ended the season ranked number-two after falling to UConn in the Final Four.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State will hold its annual spring game at Reser Stadium on Saturday.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in what will be the final practice session of the spring.  Pregame festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Plaza.  The Beavers' regular season home-opener is Saturday, September 17th against Idaho State.
 

(Renton, WA)  --  Five prime-time games will be included in the 2016 regular season for the Seattle Seahawks.  On the schedule that was released yesterday by the NFL, Seattle will open the regular season at home against Miami on September 11th.  The Hawks will play in Los Angeles on September 18th in the first regular-season game in that city since 1994.  The prime-time contests will be played at Arizona on October 23rd; on November 7th in Seattle against Buffalo; the following Sunday at New England; in Seattle against Carolina on December 4th; and at CenturyLink Field against the Rams on December 15th.

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard scored a team-high 21 points as the Trail Blazers topped the Nuggets, 107-99, in Portland.  C.J. McCollum added 17 for the Blazers, who will face the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.  Lillard set Portland's franchise record for most three-pointers by making the 827th long distance shot of his career.  The fifth-seeded Blazers travel to LA for game one of their playoff series against the Clippers on Sunday.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter is apologizing to fans, after last night's 3-1 loss to FC Dallas at Providence Park.  The Timbers gave up three goals in the first half on their way to the loss.  Portland played without Darlington Nagbe, who was injured during the Galaxy game in Los Angels over the weekend.  The Timbers will host San Jose Saturday night.

(Eugene, OR)  --  For the second year in a row, the Oregon men's basketball team has landed a player of the year.  Kavell Bigby-Williams, the National Junior College Athletic Association player of the year, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Ducks.  Bigby-Williams averaged over 16 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks per game as a sophomore for Gillette College in Wyoming.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon's Koral Costa has been named one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.  Costa is second in the Pac-12 with a batting average of .450.  The list of finalists will be trimmed to 10 players on May 11th and down to three on May 25th.  The winner will be announced in June, prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

(Portland, OR)  --  Retired women's soccer star Abby Wambach is pleading guilty to a drunken driving charge.  The 35-year-old will enroll into a diversion program and could have the charge dismissed in a year.  Portland police say Wambach was pulled over April 2nd after seeing her drive through a red light.  She failed field sobriety tests and was later booked into jail.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers look to remain unbeaten against FC Dallas all-time while playing at Providence Park.  Portland is 4-0-and-2 in the six matches between the two clubs.  The Timbers played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday at the LA Galaxy.  The defending MLS champs are 1-2-and-2 overall, while Dallas is 3-1-and-2.
 

(Beaverton, OR)  --  The Timbers are avoiding a serious injury to midfielder Darlington Nagbe.  Coach Caleb Porter says Nagbe has a sprained ankle and will miss Portland's game against Dallas tonight.  The team originally feared the injury could be worse.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are struggling through a five-game losing streak in the young season, losing again at home to Texas, 8-0.  Adrian Beltre had five RBI for the Rangers, and the Mariners were held to four hits on the night.  Starter Wade Miley gave up six runs on ten hits in picking up the loss for Seattle.  The Mariners and Rangers will wrap up the three-game series this afternoon at Safeco Field.

(Beaverton, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are "cautiously optimistic" about midfielder Darlington Nagbe's injured ankle.  Nagbe does not have a broken ankle and the team hopes the injury is not too severe.  Nagbe was stretchered off the field in the second half of Sunday's game after his ankle was stomped on by LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel de Jong.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State's matchup today with University of Portland on the baseball diamond has been postponed.  No makeup date has been announced but the spokesman said fans with tickets to today's contest will be able to use those tickets for the rescheduled game when it takes place.  OSU is 22-and-7 overall this season, and takes on Washington State later this week.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to even their series with Texas after losing to the Rangers, 7-3.  Hisashi Iwakuma allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings as Seattle lost its fourth straight game.  Nelson Cruz had a two-run homer in the eighth inning for the Mariners.  Seattle and Texas will play again tonight at Safeco Field.

(Portland, OR)  --  Karl-Anthony Towns' last-second basket gave the Timberwolves to a 106-105 win over the Trail Blazers in Portland on Saturday.  Damian Lillard had a game-high 31 points for the Blazers, who are in fifth in the Western Conference.  Lillard's four-point play with less than five seconds to go put Portland up by one before the game-winner by Towns.  The Blazers host the Nuggets on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season.

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team held its first scrimmage of the spring practice session at Hillsboro Stadium on Saturday.  It was the first time the Beavers played in the Portland area since 2005.  OSU continues to prepare for its annual spring game, which will be held on Saturday at Reser Stadium.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Portland Timbers battled to a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center.  Fanendo Adi scored early in the second half to give Portland a 1-0 lead, but a misplay by Nat Borchers resulted in an own goal equalizer for the Galaxy.  The Timbers have five points and are in ninth place in the Western Conference with a record of 1-2-and-2.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are winless at home so far this season, after losing to Oakland, 2-1, in ten innings.  Felix Hernandez struck out ten and allowed only three hits over seven innings, but a two-out home run by Coco Crisp in the tenth made the difference for the A's.  Nelson Cruz scored the Mariners' only run in the sixth.  Seattle will host Texas in a three-game series starting tonight.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers host the Timberwolves tomorrow night in the penultimate game of the regular season.  Portland is coming off a 120-115 win over the Thunder on Wednesday.  The Blazers' regular season finale is Wednesday night against the Nuggets.  Portland has clinched a playoff berth and is in sixth place in the Western Conference.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers set a new franchise record in Wednesday's win against Oklahoma City.  The win clinched a playoff berth for Portland in what will be the 32nd time in franchise history that the Blazers will be in the playoffs.  That is the fourth-most playoff appearances of any team since Portland joined the NBA in 1970.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers continue to prepare for their match against the L.A. Galaxy on Sunday.  Portland is coming off a 4-1 loss to Orlando City last weekend.  The match against the Galaxy will mark the start of a busy week for the Timbers, who will host Dallas on Wednesday and San Jose on Saturday.  Portland is ninth in the Western Conference with a record of 1-2-and-1.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon football team is in the midst of spring practices in preparation for its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 30th.  The Ducks will hold their first scrimmage of the season today.  Oregon ended last season ranked number 20, finishing with a 9-and-4 record.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks know which teams they'll be playing during the 2016 preseason.  Dates for two of the games have been set by the NFL, including August 18th at CenturyLink Field versus Minnesota and September 1st at Oakland.  The league has yet to determine when and where games against Kansas City and Dallas will be played.  It will be the eleventh straight year the Seahawks will finish their preseason against the Raiders.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team ended its season with the highest ranking in program history.  The second-ranked Beavers finished only behind national champion Connecticut in the final "USA Today" Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll.  The Beavers are among five Pac-12 teams ranked in the final Top 25 poll of the season.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Thunder for a 120-115 win in Portland.  Al-Farouq Aminu had a team-high 27 points and C.J. McCollum added 26 for Portland which clinched a playoff berth. Six players scored in double figures for the Blazers, who have won six of their past seven games.  Portland hosts the Timberwolves Saturday.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon men's basketball team finished sixth in the final "USA Today" Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll.  The Pac-12 champions set the team record for victories in a season, finishing at 31-and-7.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers continue to prepare for their upcoming match against the L.A. Galaxy.  Portland is coming off a 4-1 loss to Orlando City on Sunday, in which Diego Chara became the fourth player in team history to play in 150 league games for the Timbers.  Sunday's match against the Galaxy is at 6:30 p.m. in Los Angeles.

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Seattle Mariners will have a series win under their belts when they play their home opener tomorrow night.  Seattle rallied yesterday with a five-run ninth to defeat Texas, 9-5.  Robinson Cano hit two home runs and had five RBI.  Leonys  Martin also homered for the Mariners.  Seattle will open a three-game series with Oakland tomorrow night at Safeco Field.
 

(Sacramento, CA)  --  C.J. McCollum netted 30 points as the Blazers beat the Kings 115-107 in Sacramento.  Maurice Harkless had 20 points and 16 rebounds for Portland, which has won five of six.  Damian Lillard added 22 points in the victory.  The Blazers host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at 7:00.

(Portland, OR)  --  Former Trail Blazer player and coach Terry Porter was officially announced as the next head coach at the University of Portland.  Porter is the 21st men's basketball coach in Pilots' history.  He played 10 seasons for the Blazers and three seasons coaching in the NBA.  U-of-P went 12-and-20 last season under coach Eric Reveno.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  Portland Winterhawks goalie Adin Hill is heading to the NHL's Arizona Coyotes.  Hill signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the 'Yotes.  Hill was selected in the third round, 76th overall, in last June's National Hockey League Draft.  As a 20-year-old next season, he will be eligible to return to Portland.

(Eugene, OR)  --  International soccer is coming to Autzen Stadium.  French professional league champion Paris Saint-Germain and legendary Italian club F.C. Internazionale, or Inter Milan, will play at the home of the Ducks on July 24th.  Autzen is one of three college football stadiums to host an ICC match this summer.

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to win their series with Texas today, after defeating the Rangers last night, 10-2.  The M's pounded out eleven hits and secured their first win of the season with a six-run eighth inning.  Seattle got home runs from Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, Seth Smith, and Luis Sardinas.  The Mariners and Rangers will wrap up their three-game series beginning at 11:05 this morning.

(Sacramento, CA)  --  The Trail Blazers clash with the Kings tonight in Sacramento.  Portland has four games left, and all but tonight's will be at the Moda Center.  The Blazers host the Thunder tomorrow and the T-Wolves on Saturday before closing the regular season against Denver next Wednesday.  At 41-and-37, the Blazers currently hold the sixth seed in the Western Conference.

(Tualatin, OR)  --  The World Team and USA Select Team begin practice this week in the Portland area as the two squads gear up for Saturday's Nike Hoop Summit at the Moda Center.  The teams are made up of some of the top teenage basketball players in the world.  West Linn guard Payton Pritchard is the only Oregon native playing in the game.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Portland Timbers continue MLS action on Sunday with a road match against the L.A. Galaxy.  The Timbers go for their first road win as they're 0-and-2 away from home so far.  Portland is tied for ninth in the West out of 10 teams.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Former Seattle Mariners star Ken Griffey, Junior will throw out the first pitch in this Friday's home opener for the team.  Griffey is about to become the first player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a Mariner, and will do the honors prior to Seattle's Safeco Field opener Friday night against Oakland.  Griffey was a Mariner for 13 of his 23 major-league seasons.  He was elected to the All-Star Game 13 times, won ten Gold Gloves, and hit 630 home runs during his career.

(Orlando, FL)  --  Arena Football action continues this weekend as the Portland Steel pay a visit to the Orlando Predators.  The Steel got blasted 80-28 by the Arizona Rattlers on Friday night.  The Steel visit the Philadelphia Soul on April 17th before returning home on May 7th to face the LA Kiss.

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try this afternoon to bounce back from their opening-day, 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.  Felix Hernandez held Texas to only one hit yesterday, but the Rangers scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning with help from three walks and two errors.  Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager each got a solo home run for the Mariners.  Seattle will visit Texas again at 5:05 this afternoon.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Warriors bounced back from their first home loss of the season to defeat the Trail Blazers, 136-111, in Oakland.  Stephen [[ STEFF-ihn ]] Curry led Golden State with a game-high 39 points.  Damian Lillard had a team-high 38 points for Portland, which is in sixth place in the West.  The Blazers travel to Sacramento to battle the Kings tomorrow night.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team hopes its first Final Four appearance won't be its last.  The Beavers fell victim last night to the undefeated University of Connecticut women by a score of 80-51.  Sydney Wiese scored 13 points for Oregon State and Ruth Hamblin added ten.  UConn will play Syracuse for the championship, after the Orange defeated Washington, 80-59.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Jamie Weisner has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America First Team.  The senior guard from Clarkston, Washington, averaged over 17 points per game this season for the Beavers.  Weisner is the seventh player in program history to be named an All-American.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Ruth Hamblin collected a pair of academic awards at the Final Four this weekend.  Hamblin was named a Senior CLASS Award First Team All-American in addition to be selected as a recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award.  The senior center from Houston, British Columbia, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 and is majoring in mechanical engineering.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  The dream season for the Washington women's basketball team is over.  The seventh-seeded Huskies lost to fourth-seeded Syracuse, 80-59, in the national semifinals yesterday in Indianapolis.  Talia Walton led Washington with 29 points, including a Final Four record eight three-pointers.  The Huskies finish the year with a record of 26-and-11, the fifth straight season with 20-plus wins.

(Orlando, FL)  --  Orlando City dominated the Timbers, 4-1, at the Citrus Bowl.  Portland fell behind early, trailing 2-0 at the half.  The Lions added two more in the second half and nearly blanked the Timbers.  Jack McInerney scored in the 89th minute for Portland to avoid the shutout.  The Timbers will be in Carson, California, on Sunday to take on the LA Galaxy.

(Portland, OR)  --  Al-Farouq Aminu's 28 points and nine rebounds led the way as the Trail Blazers rallied to beat the Celtics, 116-109, at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard had a rough night for Portland, going 3-for-16 to finish with 14 points.  The Blazers have won three straight to keep a grasp on sixth place in the Western Conference.  Isaiah Thomas had 22 points for Boston, which has lost back-to-back games.  The Celtics dropped from fourth to sixth in the Eastern Conference.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team is getting ready for this weekend's game against Connecticut in the NCAA Women's Final Four.  The second-seed Beavers are set to play top-seed UConn at three o'clock Sunday afternoon.  The victor will play the winner of the Washington-Syracuse game, which is slated to begin at 5:30 Sunday.  The Beavers will have a tall order, as UConn is undefeated this season and hopes to win its eleventh national title.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  Washington goes up against Syracuse in the Women's Final Four Sunday in Indianapolis.  The seventh-seeded Huskies beat Stanford in the Elite Eight to advance.  UConn will face Oregon State in Sunday's other semifinal.  The winners will meet in Tuesday's championship game.

(Orlando, FL)  --  The Portland Timbers continue to prepare for their upcoming match against Orlando City.  The Timbers will make their first east coast trip of the MLS season when they head to Orlando today in anticipation of Sunday's match at the Citrus Bowl.  Portland is 1-1-and-1 on the season.
