(Kansas City, MO)  --  The father of Royals starting pitcher Edinson Volquez passed away prior to last night's Game One.  Royals manager Ned Yost says Volquez wasn't told about his father's death before the game at his family's request.  Volquez tossed six innings of three-run ball in a no-decision.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State forward Daniel Gomis is out six-to-eight weeks with a broken hand.  The injury should keep the 6-foot-10 big man off the hardwood unit mid-December.  Gomis has missed two seasons due to a broken leg at the start of his college career.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks wide receiver Paul Richardson is back on the practice field after a nine-month absence.  Richardson underwent offseason surgery after suffering an ACL injury, and drew praise for his quickness yesterday from head coach Pete Carroll.  Richardson was the Seahawks' top pick in the 2014 draft out of Colorado.  The team hasn't made room on the roster for him yet, and it will be up to three weeks before the Seahawks decide whether to add him.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Scott Servais is officially the new manager of the Seattle Mariners.  Servais was introduced yesterday by General Manager Jerry DiPoto as the team's 17th full-time manager in its history.  Servais was director of player personnel with the Los Angeles Angels when DiPoto was that team's G.M.  Servais succeeds Lloyd McClendon, who was fired at the end of the Mariners' 2015 campaign.

(Kansas City, MO)  --  The Fall Classic begins tonight as the Royals host the Mets in Game One of the World Series.  Matt Harvey will get the start on the mound for New York.  Kansas City will counter with Edinson Volquez.  First-pitch is at 8:07 Eastern.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  Tony Jefferson picked off Joe Flacco in the end zone in the closing seconds to give the Cardinals a 26-18 win over the Ravens on "Monday Night Football".  Chris Johnson rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown to help the NFC West-leading Cards improve to 5-and-2.

(Irving, TX)  --  Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy won't be punished by the team for his sideline confrontations during Sunday's loss to the Giants.  Hardy was involved in heated exchanges with special teams coach Rich Bisaccia and injured wide receiver Dez Bryant.
 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Freshman quarterback Nick Mitchell was intercepted on Oregon State's final drive of the game as the Beavers lost to the Buffaloes 17-13 at Reser Stadium.  Mitchell went 9-of-24 for 122 yards in the first collegiate start. T he loss dropped the Beavers to 0-and-4 in Pac-12 play.  Colorado snapped a 14-game conference losing streak with the win.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State defensive back Treston Decoud was taken off the field in an ambulance during the second quarter of Saturday's loss to Colorado.  Decoud was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis after taking an inadvertent helmet-to-helmet hit from a teammate.  The redshirt junior was evaluated and released in time to be with the team postgame, according to team officials.  There is no timetable for Decoud's return.

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The NBA is mourning the loss of Timberwolves head coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders.  The team announced Sunday that Saunders passed away at the age 60 after a battle with cancer.  Saunders revealed that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in August.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Blazers mounted a rally behind Damian Lillard's 39 points, but Portland fell to the Clippers, 115-109 at the STAPLES Center.  Portland trailed by 28 points after one quarter, but outscored the Clippers for every quarter for the rest of the game.  C.J. McCollum added 22 as Portland closed out the preseason.

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota missed practice yesterday for the Tennessee Titans.  Mariota is dealing with a sprained MCL.  The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for just over 12-hundred yards and nine touchdowns for the Titans.

(Santa Clara, CA)  --  The Seahawks are back in the win column after a 20-3 defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.  Marshawn Lynch returned from a hamstring injury to rush for 122 yards and a touchdown.  The Seahawks defense sacked 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick six times.  Seattle's next game is at Dallas on November 1st.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are reported to have a leading candidate to become the team's new manager.  Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports issued a tweet yesterday, quoting a source as saying Scott Servais is a strong front-runner for the job.  Servais is currently the special assistant to Los Angeles Angels general manager Billy Eppler.  Servais had an eleven-year career as a major-league catcher.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Cavaliers and big man Tristan Thompson are agreeing on a contract extension after all.  Multiple reports say the two sides have agreed to a five-year, 82-million-dollar deal.  Thompson averaged eight and-a-half points, and eight rebounds for the Eastern Conference champs last season.

(Milwaukie, OR)  --  All Milwaukie city employees will receive a 15-dollar-an-hour minimum wage.  The City Council voted last night to extend the city's minimum of 15 dollars to all seasonal employees, interns, and city contractors.  Milwaukie Mayor Mark Gamba says there needs to be a society in which people who work full time don't live in poverty.

(Vancouver, WA)  --  Police are looking for a 12-year-old boy from Vancouver who ran away from home.  Officials say Justin Chan, who was last seen yesterday morning, is a student at a local middle school and lives in the area of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and Northeast 57th Avenue.  Chan was last seen wearing a long-sleeved red shirt, tan pants, black shoes, and a black backpack.  Anyone with information is asked to call Vancouver Police at 360-696-4461.

(Salem, OR)  --  Investigators say they haven't determined what caused a three-alarm fire that destroyed a vacant warehouse in Salem.  The blaze was reported around 4:45 yesterday morning at the old Salem Equipment Company on Hawthorne Avenue.  Officials say the building had been closed for about five years.  No injuries were reported.

(Portland, OR)  --  Police are looking for a man who reportedly drove up to a 12-year-old girl in Northeast Portland and exposed himself while asking for directions.  Authorities say the incident happened Friday in the area of Northeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Royal Court.  The suspect's vehicle is described as a newer-model, black SUV.  The suspect is described as white, in his 20s, five-foot-eight, with a slim build and short, messy hair.

(Milwaukie, OR)  --  A woman is being treated for a head injury after crashing into a tree and barely missing an apartment building in Milwaukie.  Authorities say the woman had to be cut out of her car with hydraulic tools following yesterday's crash on King Road.  The driver was described as conscious but confused.

(Clatskanie, OR)  --  A recall election for Clatskanie Mayor Diane Pohl is set for November 17th.  Pohl has been embroiled in controversy for the way she handled a complaint against Police Chief Marvin Hoover.  The complaint said Hoover mocked African-Americans during a conversation with other officers.  Pohl was criticized for praising Hoover after the complaint was lodged.  The Columbia County elections office announced the recall election yesterday.

(Portland, OR)  --  Prices at the gas pump are still heading down in the Portland area.  Triple-A reports the average for a gallon of regular is two-34, down a half-cent from yesterday.  It's also three-and-a-half-cents below the average at this time last week. 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is using the new "Star Wars" movie as a recruiting tool.  The football team photo shopped recent high school recruits into a "Star Wars" movie poster.  The re-imagining features 11 hopeful recruits that intend on signing with OSU on February 3rd, 2016.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are looking to add depth to their offensive line with the re-signing of center Lemuel Jeanpierre. Jeanpierre played for Seattle over the past four seasons at center and guard, and started eleven of those contests.  He was brought in this week after Patrick Lewis suffered an ankle injury in the Cincinnati game last week.  The Seahawks have also re-activated fullback Derrick Coleman, who needs clearance from team doctors before he'll be available to play tomorrow night against San Francisco.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks running back Fred Jackson is okay after crashing his car following practice yesterday.  Jackson said on his personal Twitter account that he lost control of his car and wasn't racing teammates when the accident occurred.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will be without Diego Valeri for their season finale on Sunday against the Colorado Rapids.  Valeri picked up a yellow card during Sunday's game in Los Angeles and will be suspended for yellow card accumulation.  The suspension could cause the Timbers to have to change their formation and lineup for the game against Colorado.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Mets are a win away from their first World Series appearance since 2000.  Daniel Murphy homered for the fifth straight playoff game as the Mets downed the Cubs, 5-2, in Game Three of the NLCS.  New York can sweep the best-of-seven set with a win tonight at Wrigley Field.

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  The Royals are just a victory away from a return trip to the Fall Classic.  The Royals cranked out 15 hits in a 14-2 rout of the Blue Jays in Game Four of the ALCS in Toronto.  The Jays will try to avoid elimination at home today.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are off until their game at Arizona State next week.  UO improved to 4-and-3 with a 26-20 win at Washington over the weekend.  The Ducks square off with the Sun Devils for the first time since 2012.

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon Ducks and Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee.  Head coach Ken Whisenhunt says an MRI confirmed the results.  His status for the Titans' game Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons will be determined later in the week.  The 2014 Heisman Trophy winner suffered the injury in the second quarter of Tennessee's loss to Miami this past Sunday.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Lakers snuck past the Blazers, 104-102, in preseason action at the STAPLES Center.  Damian Lillard posted 20 points and six assists for Portland, which is 3-and-3 during its exhibition slate.  The Blazers remain in LA to wrap up the preseason on Thursday against the Clippers.

(Renton, WA)  --  The indefinite suspension of fullback Derrick Coleman is being lifted by the Seattle Seahawks.  Head coach Pete Carroll says he's satisfied with Coleman's explanation of events surrounding a crash in which he was involved in Bellevue last Wednesday.  Coleman's attorneys say he may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, and walked away from the crash scene after suffering a concussion in the crash.  Coleman was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault and hit-and-run, after police said he crashed into the back of another car at high speed on Southeast 36th Street in Bellevue.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum provided a solid one-two punch for the Blazers in a 116-111 overtime win over the Jazz at the Moda Center.  Lillard had 32 points and six assists, while McCollum racked up 26 points and nine dimes to power the Portland backcourt.  The Blazers never trailed in overtime, building an 11-point lead before holding on for the win.

(Carson, CA)  --  The Portland Timbers are in fourth place in the Western Conference standings, following a 5-2 win over the L.A. Galaxy.  The Timbers surged for five scores in the second half to beat the defending MLS Cup champs.  Two of those goals were off the foot of Fanendo Adi.  Portland will need only a draw at home next Sunday against Colorado to clinch a playoff berth.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Vernon Adams Junior threw for 272 yards and two scores as the Ducks knocked off Washington, 26-20, at Husky Stadium.  Royce Freeman rumbled for 138 yards on the ground as Oregon continued its trend of alternating wins and losses this season.  The Ducks are 4-and-3 and 2-and-2 in conference play.

(Pullman, WA)  --  The Beavers fell behind 45-17 in the first half and could never recover in a 52-31 loss to Washington State at Martin Stadium.  Cougar quarterback Luke Falk lit up Oregon State for six touchdown passes in the first half.  Seth Collins threw and ran for a score for the Beavers and Victor Bolden had a 100-yard kick return TD in the loss.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are now two-and-three on the season after blowing another fourth-quarter lead and losing to Carolina, 27-23.   The Panthers' Cam Newton drove his team 80 yards and finished with a 26-yard pass to Greg Olsen for the winning score with a-minute-48 left.  Seattle QB Russell Wilson was 18-for-30 for 241 yards and a touchdown.  The Seahawks will have just a few days to prepare for Thursday night's game at San Francisco.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  Tom Brady threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots cut down the Colts, 34-27, on "Sunday Night Football".  New England improved to 5-and-0 with the win.  The teams were meeting for the first time since last year's AFC title game sparked the "Deflategate" saga.

(Pullman, WA)  --  Oregon State is on the road against Washington State in Pac-12 action tomorrow.  The 2-and-3 Beavers first began facing Wazzu back in 1917.  The Beavers have won three of the past four matchups between the schools.  The Cougars are 3-and-2.

(Seattle, WA)   --  The Oregon Ducks hope to get back on track tomorrow as they visit rival Washington in Pac-12 play.  The Ducks have defeated Washington 11 straight times dating back to 2004.  Oregon is 3-and-3 overall and 1-and-2 in conference, while the Huskies are 3-and-2 and 1-and-1.

(Bellevue, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman is under indefinite suspension following his arrest on vehicular-assault and hit-and-run charges.  Coleman is slated to make a court appearance today in connection with a two-vehicle crash that happened around seven o'clock Wednesday night in the 13-thousand-600 block of Southeast 36th Street in Bellevue.  Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, from which police say Coleman walked away.  KIRO-TV reports Coleman's agent issued a tweet, saying Coleman may have fallen asleep while driving home Wednesday night from the Seahawks' practice in Renton.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Mets are back in the National League Championship Series for the first time since 2006.  New York held on for a 3-2 win over the Dodgers in the decisive Game Five of their NL Division Series last night in Los Angeles. The Mets will host the Cubs in Game One of the NLCS tomorrow.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers continue preseason action on Sunday when they host the Utah Jazz at the Moda Center.  Following this game, the Blazers visit the Lakers and Clippers next week to close out the preseason.

(Sandy, UT)  --  The Portland Timbers are in the thick of the MLS playoff race following a 1-to-0 road win over Real Salt Lake.  The Timbers' Fanendo Adi  converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute for the winning score.  The win placed Portland into a fifth-place tie with Seattle in the Western Conference standings.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he's hoping for the return this week of star running back Marshawn Lynch.  Lynch has been nursing a hamstring injury, and has missed back-to-back games for the first time in his Seattle career.  Carroll says Lynch had a good workout yesterday, and it's hoped he'll be ready for Sunday's game at CenturyLink Field against Carolina.  Rookie Thomas Rawls has been an able replacement for Lynch, with 58 carries for an average of five-point-six yards per carry.

(Renton, WA)  --  Former USC and current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he's saddened by the situation that's developed for Steve Sarkisian, a former Carroll assistant who was fired as USC's coach.  The school announced the firing yesterday, a day after Sarkisian was placed on indefinite leave of absence.  Carroll says while he's heartbroken by the situation, he sees this as an opportunity for Sarkisian to "get right and get well."  ESPN quoted a source as saying Sarkisian was intoxicated during team meetings Sunday, prior to the leave of absence being announced.
 

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  Meyers Leonard posted 19 points and eight rebounds as the Trail Blazers topped the Jazz, 88-81, in preseason action in Utah.  C.J. McCollum had 16 points, seven boards and five assists for Portland, which evened its record at 2-and-2.  The Blazers are off the hardwood until Sunday when they host the Jazz.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Kickoff is set between Oregon State and Colorado on October 24th.  The Beavers host the Buffs at 7:30 from Corvallis.  It will be the Beavers' first home game since they hosted Stanford on September 25th.  The game against Colorado will be the Beavers' only home contest of the month.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Le'Veon Bell's one-yard rushing touchdown as time expired gave the Steelers a dramatic 24-20 win over the Chargers on "Monday Night Football".  Bell took a direct snap with five seconds to go and a replay review upheld the game-winning score.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Luke Falk threw his fifth touchdown pass in the second overtime to lift Washington State past the Oregon Ducks, 45-38, at Autzen Stadium.  Royce Freeman rumbled for 246 yards and two scores for the Ducks, and Jeff Lockie threw for 123 yards, two scores and a pick.  The loss snaps an eight-game win streak over Wazzu.  Oregon is now 3-and-3 and 1-and-2 in Pac-12 action.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Former University of Washington head football coach Steve Sarkisian is on indefinite leave of absence from his head-coaching position at the University of Southern California.  Sarkisian did not stay for yesterday's practice, and ESPN quotes a source as saying he was intoxicated during team meetings.  USC athletics director Pat Haden met with the media after practice to announce the coach was on indefinite leave.  Trojans offensive coordinator Clay Helton has been appointed interim head coach.
 

(Tucson, AZ)  --  The Oregon State Beavers fell into a 34-7 hole at halftime and never got out as they fell to Arizona, 44-7 in Tucson.  The Beavers allowed 644 yards of total offense in the loss.  Seth Collins was 8-of-24 for 56 yards and an interception.  OSU is now 2-and-3 overall and 0-and-2 in Pac-12 play.

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  The Trail Blazers continue preseason action tonight as they visit the Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena.  Portland fell to Sacramento, 94-90, on Saturday.  After tonight's game, Portland is off until facing the Jazz again on Sunday at the Moda Center.

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  The Seahawks are hoping to find some answers after blowing a 17-point lead and losing to Cincinnati in overtime, 27-24.  After the Bengals tied the game at the end of regulation with a Mike Nugent field goal, Nugent kicked the winning points in the overtime period.  The Seahawks' fourth-quarter collapse overshadowed the performance of running back Thomas Rawls, who rushed for 169 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown run.  Seattle will host Carolina next Sunday.

(New York, NY)  --  Major League Baseball is suspending Dodgers infielder Chase Utley for two games for his takeout slide in Game Two of the NL Division Series with the Mets.  The slide was deemed to be illegal a day after it played a crucial role in LA's 5-2 win.  Utley will appeal.

(Tucson, AZ)  --  Oregon State faces the Arizona Wildcats this weekend in Tucson.  The Beavers are 2-and-2 on the year under first-year head coach Gary Andersen, and lost their Pac-12 opener to Stanford.  Arizona is 3-and-2.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Washington forced three turnovers in a 17-12 win over 17th-ranked USC.  Myles Gaskin rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown in the upset road win.  Cody Kessler was picked off twice in defeat.

(Portland, OR)  --  Allen Crabbe dropped 25 points in 25 minutes as the Trail Blazers knocked off the defending NBA champion Warriors, 118-101, at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard added 22 points while going 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.  Defending MVP Steph Curry put up 30 for Golden State, making six-of-11 three-pointers.  Portland is 1-and-1 this preseason.

(Kansas City, MO)  --  The Astros are a game up on the defending American League champions.  Colby Rasmus and George Springer both hit solo homers to power the Astros to a 5-2 win over the Royals in Game One of their division series in Kansas City.  Game Two is today.

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  Robinson Chirinos and Rougned Odor homered to help the Rangers beat the Blue Jays, 5-3, in Game One of their best-of-five ALDS.  Toronto's Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista along with Texas' Adrian Beltre all had to leave the game with injuries.

(Undated)  --  Both division series in the National League get underway today.  The Cubs will clash with the Cardinals in St. Louis, while the Mets will meet the Dodgers in Los Angeles.  Home teams are winless through the first four games of the postseason.

(Renton, WA)  --  The status of Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is uncertain for this Sunday's game at Cincinnati.  Head coach Pete Carroll says it will take until the end of this week before it's known whether Lynch will be available, as he's still nursing a hamstring injury.  Carroll says the same scenario applies to running back Fred Jackson, who suffered a high-ankle sprain in Monday night's game with Detroit.  Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane, who's been recovering from a groin injury, should be back for the Bengals game.

(Eugene, OR)  --   Oregon sophomore wide receiver Darren Carrington is eligible to return to the playing field this week after sitting out six games due to a failed drug test dating back to last season.  Carrington caught 37 passes for 704 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games last year.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  Tempers flared during last night's Wild Card game in Pittsburgh.  Both benches emptied after Jake Arrieta was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning.  Pirates infielder Sean Rodriguez took his frustrations out on a water cooler and was ejected.

(Undated)  --  Both best-of-five American League Division Series will get underway today.  The East champion Blue Jays will take on the West champion Rangers in Toronto at 3:37 Eastern.  The defending AL champion Royals will clash with the Wild Card Astros in Kansas City at 7:37 Eastern.

(Houston, TX)  --  Week Five of the NFL season kicks off tonight with the Colts taking on the Texans in Houston.  Colts quarterback Andrew Luck expects to play through a shoulder injury, though he is officially listed as questionable for the Thursday night affair.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he wasn't aware of a rule regarding linebacker K.J. Wright's batting the ball out of the Seattle end zone following a Detroit Lions fumble in Monday night's game.  Carroll says he thought Wright did the right thing at the time in batting the ball through the end zone, which enabled the Seahawks to pull out a 13-10 win.  The play is illegal, but a penalty wasn't called on Wright.  The NFL says such a play isn't subject to review.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers continue their preseason schedule tomorrow at home against the Golden State Warriors.  The Blazers dropped their preseason opener on Monday 109-105 in overtime to the Sacramento Kings.  Tip from the Moda Center is set for 7:00.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State linebacker David Henry is hanging up his cleats.  An accumulation of concussions has forced Henry to retire from football.  His most recent concussion occurred during Oregon State's 35-7 loss at Michigan on September 12th.

(Bronx, NY)  --  The Astros are moving on to the ALDS.  Houston captured a 3-0 win over the Yankees in the AL Wild Card game last night in New York.  The Astros will face the defending American League champion Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, which will get underway tomorrow.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks have their second win of the season in the books after earning a 13-10 decision over the Detroit Lions.  Safety Kam Chancellor caused Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson to fumble at the Hawks' one-yard line late in the fourth quarter to preserve Seattle's three-point lead.  Russell Wilson passed for 287 yards and a touchdown, but lost two fumbles, including one that was run back for a Detroit TD.  The Seahawks will visit Cincinnati next Sunday.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Despite beating Colorado over the weekend, Oregon is sliding out of the college football top 25 rankings.  The Ducks are on the outside looking in on the latest "USA Today" Coaches' Poll.  UO improved to 3-and-2 overall, and 1-and-1 in Pac-12 play after the 41-24 win over the Buffs.  Up next, the Ducks host Washington State.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers opened up the preseason with a 109-105 overtime loss to the Kings at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard scored a team-high 17 points in 24 minutes of action for Portland.  Meyers Leonard added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Noah Vonleh had 12 points and 11 boards off the bench.  The Blazers continue their exhibition slate on Thursday against the Warriors.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Officials say a football player for Evergreen High School in Burien, Washington has died after being critically injured during a game.  Seventeen-year-old senior Kenny Bui was injured Friday night while making a tackle during the fourth quarter of Evergreen's homecoming game against Highline.  Family members say he suffered a traumatic brain injury.  Bui was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died yesterday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are honoring the victims of last week's mass shooting at Umpqua Community College.  The Blazers wore T-Shirts before their preseason game against the Sacramento Kings.  Prior to Portland's first preseason game of the season the team's assistant coaches wore black T-Shirts featuring the "UCC" and a heart inside the outline of the state of Oregon.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are off the ice until Friday when the team hosts Spokane.  The 'Hawks are 0-and-3 after a week of play.  Friday's contest is the second game of a five-game homestand, where four of the games are at the Moda Center.

(Boulder, CO)  --  Oregon piled up 361 yards on the ground in a 41-24 road win over Colorado Saturday night.  Royce Freeman ran for 163 yards and two scores for the Ducks, who improved to 1-and-1 in Pac-12 play and 3-and-2 overall.  Oregon will host Washington State Saturday afternoon. BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Royce Freeman rushed for 163 yards and scored twice, third-string quarterback Taylor Alie tossed a clinching touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and the Ducks beat Colorado 41-24 on a soggy Saturday night. Taj Griffin finished with 110 yards rushing and a score, while receiver Bralon Addison threw a TD pass on a trick play to help the Ducks (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) rebound from a 62-20 home loss to Utah last weekend.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich says he likely won't name a starting quarterback until pre-game warmups in tomorrow's game against Colorado in Boulder.  Vernon Adams is still dealing with a broken finger.  Jeff Lockie threw for 139 yards, a touchdown and two picks in last Saturday's lost to Utah.

(Nashville, TN)  --  Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September.  Mariota has thrown for 833 yards and eight scores in his first three NFL games.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State football has a bye this week.  The Beavers are 2-and-2 with wins over Weber State and San Jose State.  They have lost to Michigan and Stanford.  They'll return to action on next Saturday when they visit Arizona.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers open preseason action on Monday with a home date against the Sacramento Kings at the Moda Center.  Portland plays seven preseason games, with three of them at home.  They'll host the defending champion Golden State Warriors next Thursday.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon wide receiver Byron Marshall is likely out for the season after suffering a leg injury in last Saturday's loss to Utah.  The Ducks are being secretive with the extent of Marshall's injury, but multiple sources say Marshall underwent surgery and is likely finished.  Marshall leads the Pac-12 in kick return average, and has one-thousand-yard rushing and receiving seasons in his career with Oregon.

(Portland, OR)  --  The new-look Trail Blazers are locking up their young talent.  The Blazers have exercised contract options on Mason Plumlee, C.J. McCollum, and Noah Vonleh.  The moves ensure that all three players remain in Portland through the 2016-2017 season.  Plumlee will get a shot at the starting center job after being acquired from Brooklyn this summer.  McCollum is due for a breakout season after averaging 17 points per game against the Grizzlies last postseason.  Vonleh is an athletic big man who was picked up in the Nicolas Batum trade in June.  Plumlee is the oldest of the bunch at just 25 years old. The Blazers return just one starter from last year's team in point guard Damian Lillard.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  The Cardinals are NL Central champions for the third straight year.  The Cardinals clobbered the Pirates in the second half of a doubleheader, 11-1, to clinch the division crown.  St. Louis also became the first 100-win team since the 2011 Phillies with the victory.

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Blue Jays are division champs for the first time in over two decades.  Toronto wrapped up the AL East title with a 15-2 thrashing of the Orioles in the opener of a doubleheader.  It's the Jays' first division title since 1993.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Bulls guard Derrick Rose is recovering from surgery after taking an elbow to the face in Tuesday's practice.  The former NBA MVP suffered a fractured left orbital bone.  The Bulls say they expect the oft-injured Rose to resume basketball activities in about two weeks.

(Landover, MD)  --  Hurricane Joaquin could force the postponement of at least one NFL game this weekend.  CBS Sports reports Sunday's game between the Eagles and Redskins in Landover, Maryland may need to be rescheduled due to the storm.
