High School Sports

The High School football regular season came to an end Friday night, and the Mt. View Cougars scored a come-from-behind win at Bend, 21-20 knocking the Lava Bears out of the playoffs. Mt. View is in, and will travel to face 5th ranked Ashland.

Meantime, Summit wins the IMC Championship and will host Crater Friday night in the first round. Redmond journeys to face 3rd rated Silverton. Sisters is the only other local team alive and the Outlaws travel to meet 5th ranked Estacada.

Moving indoors…the State Volleyball Tournaments begin Friday with Bend meeting LaSalle and Summit tangles with Lebanon. Both games in Hillsboro.  The 4-A Tourney is in Forest Grove and 2nd ranked Sisters takes on Henley while #4 Crook County meets Baker. The 2-A State Tourney is hosted by Ridgeview High School, and top ranked Culver faces Reedsport. The Championship games are Saturday and you can follow online at O-S-A-A dot Org. The State Soccer playoffs being tomorrow.

World Series

The Chicago Cubs live for another day as the Cubbies beat Cleveland last night 3-2 to win Game-5 of the World Series. Cleveland leads 3-games to 2, and will host Game-6 tomorrow night at 5pm on Fox.

Blazers long night in the Mile-High City

The Blazers are off until tomorrow when they host the Golden State Warriors. Saturday night, Damian Lillard scored 37 points as Portland scored its first road win beating Denver, 115-113. Tipoff is set for 7pm and we’ll have the broadcast for you, right here.

Trail Blazers Edge Nuggets In OT

(Denver, CO)  --  Damian Lillard's last-second basket pushed the Trail Blazers to a 115-113 win over the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center on Saturday.  Portland improved to 2-and-1 with the win.  The Blazers host the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night at the Moda Center.

NCAAF

The Oregon Ducks football team ended a 5-game losing streak as Oregon defeated Arizona State for its first Conference win Saturday in Eugene,
54-35. Freshman quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 489 yards and 4 TD’s. Oregon is 3-and-5 overall and The Ducks travel to play at USC Saturday at 4pm here on Newstalk KBND.

The Oregon State Beavers nearly pulled an upset again as they had Washington State on the ropes in Corvallis Saturday night. The Cougars prevail with a 35-31 win to remain unbeaten in League play. OSU (2-6) plays at Stanford Saturday at 1230pm.

Elsewhere in the Pac Saturday, the 4th ranked Huskies left Salt Lake City with a 31-24 win over #17 Utah. Washington is 8-and-0.

NFL

From the NFL…the Seahawks were defeated in the Big Easy yesterday losing to New Orleans, 25-20. Seattle is 4-and-2 and host the Bills one week from tonight in Seattle. The Niners had the week off and get back to work Sunday looking to end a 6-game losing skid hosting the Saints. The Oakland Raiders are for real and improve to 6-and-2 with their 30-24 win at Tampa Bay. Oakland hosts the Broncos for the NBC Sunday night game.
The Bud Light Monday Night game tonight has Chicago hosting the Vikings.

Beavers Fall To WSU

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State jumped out to a 24-6 halftime lead but was unable to hold on as Washington State rallied for a 35-31 win at Reser Stadium on Saturday.  Ryan Nall led the Beavers rushing game with 131 yards and three touchdowns.  Quarterback Marcus McMaryion threw for 327 yards and a pair of scores.  The Beavers dropped to 2-and-6 with the loss.  OSU visits Stanford on Saturday afternoon.

Ducks End Slide With Win Over Sun Devils

(Eugene, OR)  --  Freshman quarterback Justin Herbert recorded a school-record 512 yards of total offense as the Ducks thumped the Arizona State Sun Devils, 54-35, at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.  Tony Brooks-James led the ground attack with 132 yards and a touchdown.  Tight end Pharaoh Brown hauled in seven catches for 129 yards and a pair of scores.  Oregon improves to 3-and-5 with the win.  The Ducks visit Southern Cal on Saturday.

Seahawks Fall To Saints, 25-20

(New Orleans, LA)  --  The Seahawks will begin preparations for their Monday night contest with Buffalo, following their 25-20 road loss to the New Orleans Saints.  Russell Wilson threw a ten-yard pass to Jermaine Kearse in the end zone with time running out in the game, but Kearse caught the ball out of bounds.  Wilson completed 22 of 34 passes for 253 yards and an interception.  Seattle will host the Bills on November 7th.

Sounders Shut Out FC Dallas

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Sounders will move on to the second leg of their Western Conference semifinal matchup with FC Dallas, after earning a convincing 3-0 win in the first game.  Sounders FC tallied three goals within eight minutes in the second half of yesterday's game at CenturyLink Field.  Nelson Valdez scored in the 50th minute, and Nicolas Lodeiro tallied two more goals in the 55th and 58th.  The series will pick up next Sunday evening in Frisco, Texas.

High School Sports

Final night of prep football in the ‘Regular Season’ and Playoff spots up for grab. #1 Summit on the road at Hood River. #12 Bend hosts Mt. View in a must-win game for both. A Bend win, and the Lava Bears go to State as #3 rep. A Bend loss forces a tiebreaker among 3 teams. Meantime, Ridgeview entertains rival Redmond. The 4A division begins its ‘Pay In’ games and Sisters hosts Klamath Union. All other area teams did not make the playoffs and are finished.

Ton of prep Volleyball and Soccer playoffs…first, on the hardwood. Tomorrow #4 Bend hosts St. Helens and 6th ranked Summit greets Silverton, both games at 5pm, and Mt. View travels to #3 Lebanon.

In 4A play...2nd ranked Sisters entertains Seaside at 1pm. #4 Crook County hosts Scappoose, and top-ranked Culver of the 2A class hosts Vernonia at 1pm.

Outdoors...3rd ranked Bend girls soccer team hosts Putnam, Mt. View is at Wilsonville. Summit boys and girls get the bye. On the girls side…Bend travels to Sandy and Ridgeview on the road at Parkrose.

Portland Trail Blazers

From the NBA…the Blazers couldn’t hold off the L-A Clippers in the 4th quarter as the Clippers beat Portland 114-106 inspite of 4 of 5 Blazer starters scoring in double figures. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul each had 27 points in the win for L-A, and Damian Lillard sank 29 in the loss. The Blazers make their first road trip and play in Denver tomorrow night at 6pm. Portland’s next home game is Tuesday night when the Warriors visit the rose City.

World Series

The World Series is tied at one game apiece in the best-of-7 series and continues tonight in Chicago with Game-3 at 5pm televised on Fox. The Cubs will also host Games 4 and 5 set for tomorrow night, and Sunday.
 

NFL

From the NFL…former Duck quarterback Marcus Mariota threw 2 TD passes and Demarco Murray rushed for 123-yards and a score as Tennessee beat Jacksonville last night, 36-22.

6-teams have byes this weekend including the 49-ers, Rams, Steelers, Giants, Ravens, and Dolphins. The Seahawks play in New Orleans Sunday morning at 10am.

Pilots Open Exhibition Play

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland men's basketball team opens exhibition play tomorrow night against the Multnomah University Lions.  It will be the collegiate coaching debut of the Pilots' coach Terry Porter.  Portland was 12-and-20 last season.

Clippers Sink Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR)  --  Blake Griffin scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the Clippers past the Trail Blazers, 114-106, at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard led Portland with a game-high 29 points.  He added ten rebounds and a trio of assists.  The Blazers are 1-and-1 on the season.  They visit the Denver Nuggets tomorrow night at the Pepsi Center.

NCAAF

One Pac-12 football game last night in L-A saw USC run past Cal beating the Bears, 45-24. Elsewhere, in the A-C-C, 25th ranked Virginia Tech edged Pitt, 39-36.

Tomorrow…the Ducks host Arizona State here on KBND at 2pm, while the Beavers greet Washington State at 745pm televised on ESPN-2. 4th ranked Washington plays at #17 Utah tomorrow with kickoff at 1230pm on Fox Sports One. And, Arizona hosts Stanford at 8pm.

College Football Preview

(Undated)  --  The Ducks host the Arizona State Sun Devils tomorrow afternoon at Autzen Stadium.  Oregon has dropped five straight to fall to 2-and-5.  The Sun Devils are 5-and-3 on the year.  The Beavers will try to end Washington State's winning streak when the Cougars visit Reser Stadium tomorrow night.  Oregon State has dropped four of its past five games to fall to 2-and-5 on the year.  WSU has won five straight to improve to 5-and-2.  The Portland State Vikings host the Northern Colorado Bears tomorrow afternoon at Providence Park.  PSU is 2-and-5 on the season.  UNC is 4-and-3.

Trail Blazers Host Clippers

The Trailblazers play their second game of the season tonight in Portland at the Moda Center when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.
 
It will be a rematch from last spring’s NBA Playoff First Round series when the Blazers knocked the Clippers out. L-A was without stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul in that playoff series.

Tonight is the Clippers season debut, while Portland got a 2-day jump on the year coming from behind to beat the Utah Jazz Tuesday night, 113-104. We will join the broadcast with tipoff coming your way at 730pm.

NFL

Week-8 of the NFL begins tonight with the Bud Light Thursday Night game from Tennessee when Marcus Mariota and the Titans host Jacksonville.

The Jags are just 2-and-4 and the Titans 3-and-4. Mariota has 12 TD’s so far on the year. Kickoff set for 530pm televised on the NFL Network. 6-teams have byes this weekend including the 49-ers, Rams, Steelers, Giants, Ravens, and Dolphins.

The Seahawks play in New Orleans Sunday morning at 10am.

World Series

The World Series is tied at one game apiece in the best-of-7 series after the Cubs returned the favor jumping on Cleveland early enroute to a 5-1 win over the Indians.

Chicago pitcher Jake Arietta held Cleveland down to just one run through the first 6-innings while striking out 6. The Cubs pitchers combined to notch 12 of the 27 Indians outs by strikeouts.

The Fall Classic moves to Chicago’s Wrigley Field for the next 3-games. Game-3 is tomorrow night at 5pm televised on Fox.

Trail Blazers Host Clippers

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers host the Los Angeles Clippers tonight at the Moda Center.  Portland is coming off a season-opening win over the Utah Jazz, 113-104.  It will be the first game of the regular season for L.A.

NCAAF

On the college grid iron tonight…USC will host Cal in Pac-12 play. Kickoff in L-A is set for 730pm with the game nationally televised on ESPN. Both teams are 4-and-3 overall and both in 3rd place in their respective divisions.

Saturday…the Ducks host Arizona State here on KBND at 2pm, while the Beavers greet Washington State at 745pm.

Also this evening, following the USC-Cal game, a good Thursday night
A-C-C showdown in Pittsburgh when the Panthers host 25th ranked Virginia Tech in a 4pm kickoff on ESPN. Both teams are 5-and-2 overall, and only one-half game separates them for second place in the Coastal Division of the A-C-C.

Beavers Host Cougars

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers will try to slow down Washington State's famous "air raid" offense when the Cougars visit Reser Stadium on Saturday night.  Oregon State has dropped four of its past five games to fall to 2-and-5 on the year.  WSU has won five straight to improve to 5-and-2.
 

Ducks Host Sun Devils

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks continue to prepare for their upcoming game against the Arizona State Sun Devils.  Oregon hosts ASU on Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium.  The Ducks have dropped five straight to fall to 2-and-5.  The Sun Devils are 5-and-3 on the year.

Wilson Limited In Seahawks' Practice

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks say quarterback Russell Wilson was a limited participant in practice yesterday with an injury to his right pectoral muscle.  Wilson also continues to deal with a knee sprain.  Receiver Tyler Lockett was also limited in practice because of a thigh injury.  Meanwhile, the Hawks announced they've re-signed fullback Will Tukuafu and released running back C.J. Spiller.

World Series

The World Series started last night in Cleveland with the home team Indians blanking the Chicago Cubs 6-zip to win game-1 of the 7-game classic. Cleveland catcher Roberto Perez smacked a pair of home runs to lead Cleveland to the win. The Indians pitched their fourth shutout in nine games this postseason thanks to starter Korey Kluber who struck out 9 Cubs batters. Game-2 tonight has been moved up one hour because of rain expected to hit Cleveland later this evening. First pitch now set for 4pm PT on Fox.

High School Sports

The Third season…the playoff season underway for local High School Volleyball and both Summit and Mt. View advance to the round of 16 State playoff bracket Saturday.

Last night…Summit swept Putnam 3-zip and Mt. View scored a road shutout beating Wilsonville 3-games-to-none. Mt. View will travel again to face 3rd ranked Lebanon, and Summit will host Silverton.

One non-league postseason classic matchup last night saw Sisters edge Bend, 3-games to 2. Bend already clinched a 5A State playoff and will greet St. Helens Saturday, and Sisters will meet Seaside while Crook County entertains Scappoose, both in the 4-A division.

Bend Elks looking ahead

The Bend Elks have their Westcoast League baseball schedule released and the Elks open the season Monday night, June 5th hosting the Walla Walla Sweets in a 3-game series. Bend has 3 Friday-Saturday and Sunday weekend home series on the schedule during the summer. The League welcomes Port Angeles to the League, while Bend remains in the South Division with Corvallis, Yakima, Cowlitz and Gresham. Helfrich To Hold Signals For ASU Game Close

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon head football coach Mark Helfrich won't disclose any special tactics for their upcoming game against Arizona State.  The Sun Devils have been accused of sign stealing multiple times.  The Ducks brought large white sheets to ASU and lined their sideline with them last season, hoping to obscure the view of the Devils' play signalers.

Blazers Get By Jazz

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard scored 39 points to lead the Trail Blazers to a 113-104 win over the Jazz in the season-opener for both teams in Portland.  Lillard also had nine rebounds and six assists.  C.J. McCollum netted 25 points for Portland, which was 13-of-19 from three-point range in the victory.  The Blazers remain home to host the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow night.

Western Hockey League

On the ice…Western Hockey League….the Portland Winterhawks lost another 4-3 match to Tri Cities last night in Portland. It’s the second loss by the same score in a week to Tri Cities. Portland continues the home stand and hosts Kelowna Saturday and Sunday night.

OSU, Oregon Football Look To Bounce Back

(Undated)  --  Oregon State and Oregon football are hoping to turn the page following a losing weekend.  The Beavers have dropped back-to-back games and host Washington State.  Meanwhile, the Ducks lost their fifth straight and host Arizona State on Saturday.

Timbers' Players Arrested On DUI

(Lake Oswego, OR)  --  A pair of Portland Timbers players are facing drunken driving charges.  Goalie Jake Gleeson and defender Liam Ridgewell were arrested and booked charges of driving under the influence after an accident in Lake Oswego on Monday night.  The Timbers say they aware of the incident and are in close contact with the players.  Portland's season came to an end on Sunday.

Russell Wilson Reveals Wife Ciara Is Pregnant

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson says he and his wife are expecting.  Wilson posted on social media that his wife, pop singer Ciara Harris, is pregnant with the couple's first child.  The announcement was made yesterday, Ciara's 31st birthday, following weeks of rumors.  Ciara has a two-year-old son from her previous relationship with rapper Future.

Huskies' Browning Rising On Heisman Watch Lists

(Seattle, WA)  --  Washington Huskies quarterback Jake Browning is gaining more national attention.  "Sports Illustrated" and ESPN now have Browning ranked second on their respective Heisman watch lists, following Washington's 41-17 win over Oregon State.  Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson remains the favorite to take the trophy, which is awarded each year to the player deemed to be the best in college football.  Browning has completed nearly 69 percent of his passes so far this season, for more than 17-hundred yards, 26 touchdowns, and only two interceptions.

Blazers Win 16th Straight Home Opener

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers' string of home-opening victories now stands at 16 after last night's 113-104 win over Utah.  A fourth-quarter surge enabled the Blazers to overtake the Jazz.  Damian Lillard scored 39 points and C.J. McCollum added 25.  Portland will host the L.A. Clippers tomorrow night.

High School Sports

High School postseason 'Play In' volleyball action tonight will see the defending 5A Champion Summit Storm hosting Putnam in a loser-out game.  The match begins at 530p.

Mt. View travels to Wilsonville. The winners will be seeded in to the State 16-team Playoff bracket which begins Saturday.

Bend won the IMC Championship and will await its first round opponent after tonight's Play in.

Likewise on the 4A hardwood....Crook County and Sisters will have home Playoff games Saturday.

The World Series begins tonight in Cleveland with the Indians hosting The Chicago Cubs at 5pm televised on Fox.

The Chicago Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908, and this is their first appearance since 1945. The Cleveland Indians are making their first World Series appearance since 1997, and they haven't won it all since 1948.

Cleveland hosts Games 1 and 2 before the series shifts to Chicago for (possibly) three straight games. If Games 6 and 7 are necessary, they will be in Ohio.

Oregon, Oregon State Turn Page After Losses

(Undated)  --  Oregon and Oregon State football are hoping to turn the page after each program lost over the weekend.  The Ducks lost their fifth straight and host Arizona State on Saturday.  Meanwhile, the Beavers have dropped back-to-back games and host Washington State.

NCAAF

College Football rankings by Associated Press has a few changes, but Alabama still is number-one. With Ohio State losing, Michigan, Clemson, Washington and Louisville all move up one spot to make up the new Top-5.

The Buckeyes drop to number-6, followed by Nebraska, Baylor, Texas A&M, and West Virginia.

Unbeaten Boise State at 7-and-0 is up to number-13 and Utah 17th.  Colorado is back in the top-25 at #23 after its 10-5 win at Stanford.

Blazers Begin Regular Season Tonight At Home

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers will officially begin their 2016-17 campaign tonight, when they host the Utah Jazz.  The Blazers will try to extend their streak of home-opening victories, which currently stands at 15 games.  Most of the players from last season's squad are returning for Portland, who lost to Golden State in the conference semifinals.  Tip-off at the Moda Center is at seven o'clock tonight on KBND.
 

Carroll Stands Behind Seahawks Kicker

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he supports placekicker Steven Hauschka [[ HOWSH-kuh ]], even after he missed a chip-shot field-goal attempt that would have been a game-winner.  Hauschka's try for a 28-yard field goal went wide-left in Sunday's 6-6 overtime tie with Arizona.  Carroll says he'll continue to count on Hauschka, who's always come through for the Seahawks.  The Seattle kicker has made 15 of 23 field-goal attempts at University of Phoenix Stadium.

NFL

Bud Light Monday Night Football last night in Denver saw the Broncos keep their former quarterback Brock Osweiler (oss-wiler) and the Houston Texans out of the end zone for a 27-9 win. The win improves the Broncos record to 5-and-2 and puts them in a first place tie with the Raiders in the A-F-C West division. Denver hosts the Chargers Sunday. The Thursday night game will feature former Duck Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans hosting Jacksonville.

Blazers Pick Up Options For Vonleh, Napier

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are picking up the fourth-year contract options for Noah Vonleh and Shabazz Napier for the 2017-18 season.  Vonleh averaged 3.6 points and 3.9 rebounds last season.  Napier scored 3.7 points per game last season for the Orlando Magic.

Rockets Waive Former OSU Star Payton

(Houston, TX)  --  Former Oregon State basketball standout Gary Payton the Second is starting the NBA season not on an active roster.  The Houston Rockets have waived the rookie.  Other teams would have 48 hours to claim Payton's contract or he would become a free agent.

The drought continues for the Oregon Ducks who lost their 5th straight game Friday night in double overtime losing to Cal, 52-49. Oregon, 2-5, will host Arizona State Saturday at 2pm here on the home of the Ducks, KBND.

High School Sports

We start with our Prep Football recap under the Friday Night lights where top ranked Summit routed Ridgeview, 70-to-nothing. The Storm clinch back to back IMC League crowns and are 7-and-1 overall.

Redmond beat Hermiston 26-14 to force a three-way tie for 2nd place in the IMC with Bend who traveled to Pendleton to notch a 22-7 win over the Buckaroos. And, Mt. View is still in the playoff hunt after its 40-13 win hosting Hood River.

Friday night…Bend entertains Mt.View in a Cougar ‘must-win’ situation to make the playoff tiebreaker; Redmond plays at city rival Ridgeview, and Summit closes the regular season at Hood River.

In the 4-A division…12th rated Sisters scores a big win over Sweet Home, 43-28 to nail down 2nd place in the Sky-Em League. The State ‘Play-In’ round is Friday night and the Outlaws (6-2) will host Klamath Union from the Skyline Conference.

NFL

From the NFL yesterday…Chip Kelly and the 49-ers suffered their 6th straight loss as Tampa Bay beat San Francisco 34-17. The Niners have this week off. Meantime, the bay area’s other team, the Raiders improve to 5-and-2 with a 33-16 win in Jacksonville. And, a big NFC West divisional showdown in Arizona last night….ended in a draw. The Seahawks and Cardinals finished tied, 6-6. First tie in Hawks in history. Seattle plays in New Orleans on Sunday. Tonight’s Bud Light Monday night game is Denver hosting the Texans. Both teams with 4-and-2 records.

Seahawks, Cardinals Tie In OT

(Glendale, AZ)  --  The Seahawks will try to solve problems on offense, after battling to a 6-6 tie with the Arizona Cardinals in overtime.  Both teams missed chip-shot field-goal attempts in the extra period before time ran out last night, and the Hawks ended a game with a tie for the first time in franchise history.  Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson completed 24 of 37 for 225 yards.  The Seahawks will visit New Orleans next Sunday.

World Series

The Hunt for Mr. October begins tomorrow night in Cleveland with the World Series and Game-1. The Indians will have the home field advantage in the 7-game series hosting the Chicago Cubs. Chicago makes the World Series for the first time in 71 years after beating the Dodgers 3 straight games to win the National League pennant. Game-2 also in Cleveland Wednesday night. The Cubbies will host games 3, 4, and 5 at Wrigley Field.

Huskies Roll Beavers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The fifth-ranked Washington Huskies rolled the Oregon State Beavers, 41-17, on Saturday afternoon.  Tim Cook led OSU's ground attack with 108 yards and a touchdown.  The Beavers trailed 31-0 at halftime.  Oregon State hosts Washington State on Saturday night.  The Beavers are 2-and-5.  WSU is 5-and-2.

Ducks Rally, Fall In Double OT

(Berkeley, CA)  --  Oregon rallied from a 21-point deficit but came up short as the Cal Bears downed the Ducks, 52-49, in double-overtime on Friday night.  Freshman quarterback Justin Herbert threw six touchdown passes, five in regulation and one in overtime.  His interception in double-OT sealed the win for Cal.  Oregon hosts Arizona State on Saturday afternoon.  The Ducks have dropped five straight to fall to 2-and-5 on the year.  ASU is 5-and-3.

Timbers End Season With Loss

(Vancouver, British Columbia)  --  The Timbers' season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.  Diego Valeri scored the lone goal for Portland.  The Timbers end the season with 44 points at 12-14-and-8 and in seventh place in the Western Conference.

Trail Blazers Host Jazz To Open Season

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers open the regular season tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz at the Moda Center.  Portland wrapped up the preseason on Friday night with a 107-96 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Oakland.  The Blazers were 4-and-3 in preseason play, including a pair of wins over Utah.  Portland announced it has waived forward Grant Jerrett and center Greg Stiemsma to trim its roster to 15 players.

High School Sports

Final regular season week of High School Volleyball and 4th ranked Bend swept Mt. View last night 3-zip. Ridgeview takes Redmond in 3-games for bragging rights in Redmond. The Playoffs begin next week.

Week 8 of Prep football and most positions are spoken for, but big clash in Redmond tonight in the IMC when the Panthers greet Hermiston. The winner has shot at being #2 seeded Playoff team from 4 selected from this conference.

Redmond took top-ranked Summit to double O-T before bowing out 35-28 last week while Hermiston beat Bend to take over 2nd place ahead of  Bend and Redmond who are tied for third entering tonight’s fray. Bend travels to Pendleton and Summit hosts Ridgeview, and Mt. View greets Hood River in a Non-league game.

In 4-A action tonight…Sisters will host a 2nd Place showdown with Sweet Home to close out League play in the Sky-Em Conference. Madras hosts Crook County in the Battle of Winless Teams in the Tri-Valley League. La Pine finishes its season at Pleasant Hill. And, Culver hosts Pilot Rock.

On the College gridiron last night…14th ranked Boise State pulls out a 28-27 win at home downing B-Y-U. The Broncos remain unbeaten at 7-0.

The Oregon Ducks are in Berkeley tonight to take on Cal and try to end a 4-game losing streak. You can hear the broadcast here on FM News-100 and 11-10 KBND with the pregame Show at 530pm with a 730p start.

The Ducks are just 2-and-4 and trying to avoid a tap out on the embattled season, while Cal is 3-and-3. The game is still nationally televised on ESPN.

Meantime…the Beavers of Oregon State in Seattle to take on the nation’s number-5 ranked team, in both the A-P and Coaches polls, the Washington Huskies.  The Dawgs had the week off like Oregon, and last played and crushed the Ducks, 70-21. Kickoff set for 330p on the Pac-12 Networks.

Elsewhere tomorrow…the Pac starts the day with Stanford hosting Colorado. #19 Utah at UCLA at 1 on Fox. The Cougars go for their 5th straight win on the schedule and will play at Arizona State at 730pm on Pac-12 Networks.

The National League Championship baseball playoff comes down to a must win game for the Dodgers with Game-5 tomorrow night back in Chicago at 5pm televised on Fox Sports One. Last night, The Cubs doubled up L-A beating the Dodgers 8-to-4 to take a 3-2 lead in the best of 7 game Title series.

Trail Blazers Wrap Up Preseason

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Trail Blazers wrap up the preseason tonight against the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena in Oakland.  Portland is 4-and-2 in preseason action.  The Blazers open the regular season at home against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.

Reports: Portland Steel Ceasing Operations

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Steel are closing up shop.  According to the Portland Business Journal, the team is folding after only three seasons of existence.  The Steel have not released an official statement to address the report nor has the Arena Football League.  The league itself is in a state of uncertainty.  The Orlando Predators and LA Kiss are ceasing operations, and the Jacksonville Sharks and Arizona Rattlers announced their intentions to move to other leagues.

Timbers Face Whitecaps

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers visit the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday afternoon at BC Place with an MLS playoff spot on the line.  A win against the Whitecaps would clinch a playoff berth for Portland, but a loss would mean the team needs help to ensure its season continues.  The Timbers are in seventh place in the Western Conference with 44 points.

College Football Preview

(Undated)  --  The Ducks will try to get their season back on track when they visit the Cal Bears tonight in Berkeley.  Oregon has dropped four in a row to fall to 2-and-4.  Cal is 3-and-3 on the year.  Oregon State will try to pull off a gigantic upset when it visits the fifth-ranked Washington Huskies tomorrow afternoon.  The Beavers are 2-and-4 on the year.  Washington is undefeated at 6-and-0.  Portland State is on a bye this week.  The Vikings host Northern Colorado on Saturday, October 29th.

The regular season in Prep Volleyball comes to a close tonight and in the IMC…4th ranked Bend plays at Mt. View and Ridgeview hosts Redmond.

In the 4-A division, 2nd ranked Sisters (21-3) and number-4 Crook County (26-3) will await the State playoffs one week from Saturday.

On the 3A court…La Pine ends its season on the road tonight at Pleasant Hill. And top-ranked Culver at 21-and-2 will compete Saturday in the Class 2-A Columbia Basin Conference Tournament in Heppner.
 

Major Leagues

From the Major League Baseball playoffs…the Dodgers and Cubs are all even two games apiece after Chicago unoaded on L-A beating the Dodgers last night 10-to-2.

Game-5 is tonight at 5pm televised on Fox Sports One. The Cubs send their veteran ace pitcher to the mound in John Lester. The Tacoma, Washington native has 19-wins on the season.

The Dodgers counter with Japanese craftsman Kenta Maeda (may-duh) who is 16-and-11. Chicago is trying to reach the World Series for the first time in 71 years.

The American League Championship belongs to the Cleveland Indians who shutout Toronto yesterday in Canada, 3-zip taking the Series 4-1. Second straight year The Jays have lost the A-L-C-S. Cleveland will host Games one and two in the World Series beginning Tuesday night.

Blazers

From one court to another…The Portland Trailblazers got back in the win column in their second to last preseason game using good old fashioned defense and rebounding to secure an 88-84 win in Salt Lake City last night beating the Jazz.

Damian Lillard led all scorers with 27, and Allen Crabbe came off the bench with 15 points, to lead Portland who will open the regular season Tuesday night hosting the Jazz. The Blazers outrebounded Utah by 9 led by Mason Plumee who raked in 10 boards.

The Zers are 4-and-2 and will wrap up the exhibition schedule Friday night in Oakland challenging the Golden State Warriors with the game televised on NBA-TV.

NCAAF

A classic showdown in west coast collegiate football tonight in Boise, Idaho where the unbeaten 6-and-0 Boise State Broncos host B-Y-U who has won 3 straight including most recently a thrilling 28-21 double-overtime win over Mississippi State last weekend.

B-Y-U is 4-and-3 and tonight’s game features one of the nation’s best running back matchups with the Cougar’s Jamaal Williams who is just 58 yards shy of One Thousand yards rushing, and is the school’s all-time leading rusher.

Boise State’s Jeremy Mc Nichols, meanwhile, is one of the best all-around backs in the country. He is fourth nationally in all-purpose yards at 181 yards per game.

Ducks Visit Cal Bears

(Berkeley, CA)  --  The Oregon Ducks will try to turn their season around when they visit the Cal Bears tomorrow night in Berkeley.  Oregon has dropped four in a row to fall to 2-and-4.  The Ducks have been outscored by over 18 points per game during the four-game slide.  Cal is 3-and-3 on the year.

Timbers Eliminated From CCL Play

(Portland, OR)  --   Jack McInerney's goal led the Timbers to a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Saprissa at Providence Park.  It wasn't enough, though, as the Timbers have been eliminated from CONCACAF Champions League play.  Portland wraps up the regular season on Sunday afternoon at BC Place against the Vancouver Whitecaps.  The Timbers can clinch an MLS playoff berth with a win.

On to Big League baseball playoffs where last night an ex-Cub and former 4th Round draft pick of Chicago, Rich Hill, pitched the L-A Dodgers to a win in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.

Hill went 6-innings striking out 6 as the Dodgers blanked the Cubbies, 6-zip to take a 2-1 lead in the best of 7 series. L-A has kept Chicago scoreless over 18-innings.

In the American League Championship series, The Toronto Blue Jays avoided elimination and came up with a needed win yesterday in Game-4 to beat Cleveland 5-to-1, and will host the Indians in another must win for Toronto today at 1pm. The Jays and Cleveland televised on T-B-S.

We begin with High School volleyball where #6 Summit beat Ridgeview
3-games to one. It took 5-sets, but Mt. View edges Redmond 3-2.

On the soccer fields…in boys action 4th ranked Summit blanked Ridgeview 1-zip in a showdown of the top 2 IMC teams. In 4-A action, #2 rated Sisters scores a 2-1 win at Junction City. 4th ranked Madras traveled to Gladstone for a 4-1 win claiming the Tri-Valley League Title.  And, Crook County was shutout by Molalla 3-zip.

Girls 5A ranks…Summit runs by Ridgeview 5-1. From the 4-A division, Sisters downed by Junction City 3-2. Madras drops a 3-2 match to Gladstone, and Molalla out kicks Crook County 8-zip.

Western Hockey League

On the Western Hockey League ice…the Portland Winterhawks notch their 4th straight win beating Tri Cities last night in Portland, 4-3. The Hawks skate in Seattle Friday night taking on the Thunderbirds. Portland has already beat Seattle twice this year.

Blazers Continue Preseason Tonight

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  The Trail Blazers are closing in on the NBA regular season.  Portland visits the Utah Jazz tonight in the second-to-last exhibition game before tipping the real thing on October 25th.  The Blazers wrap up the preseason on the road at the Golden State Warriors on Friday. Timbers' Grabavoy To Retire Following Season

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers midfielder Ned Grabavoy is hanging up his cleats at the end of the MLS season.  Grabavoy is retiring after 13 professional seasons.  The 33-year-old joined Portland ahead of the 2016 season.  The Timbers meet Deportivo Saprissa tonight in CONCACAF play at Providence Park.

Blazers' Ezeli Returns

(Portland, OR)  --  Festus Ezeli is making a big first impression on his new Blazers' teammates.  The offseason free agent acquisition practiced for the first time following an injection in his left knee in August.  Ezeli averaged seven points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Warriors last season.

College Football ratings by Associated Press for the week has one change near the top. Alabama is still the number-one ranked team in the country unbeaten at 7-and-0 and will host 6th ranked Texas A&M Saturday.

Michigan now moves up to #2, and Clemson slips to 3rd by the sportswriters. And, the Washington Huskies who were idle last weekend remain ranked 5th. The Dawgs host the Beavers Saturday at 330p.

A & M is sixth, followed by Louisville, Nebraska, Baylor and Wisconsin make up the top-10.

Boise State steps up to #14 and will host BYU in a nationally televised game on ESPN Thursday night. Utah moves up two spots to number-19 after its narrow win in Corvallis Saturday.

OSU's Garretson Done For Season

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State quarterback Darell Garretson is done for the remainder of the season.  Garretson suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Saturday's loss at home to Utah.  Head coach Gary Anderson says Marcus McMaryion would start at quarterback against Washington.
 

Ducks' Brown Says Tweet Was Not A Knock On Helfrich

(Eugene, OR)  --  Ducks tight end Pharaoh Brown says a recent tweet he sent was not a knock on head coach Mark Helfrich.  Brown answered he would not run through a wall for his coach to a Twitter question.  The senior tight end stressed he is not at odds with his coach, and his team must "have some heart."

Blazers On Road To End Preseason

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are going to end the preseason schedule on the road for two games.  The Blazers are in Salt Lake City tomorrow night to take on the Jazz, before facing the loaded Golden State Warriors in the final preseason game two nights later.  The Trail Blazers will play games that count starting a week from tonight.

top-ranked Summit (6-1) needed double-overtime to dispose of Redmond Friday night, 41-35.

Meantime, 6th ranked Hermiston thumped Bend on the Lava Bears home turf, 28-7 to take over sole possession of 2nd place. Bend drops to #13 and tied with Redmond for 3rd place but holds the tiebreaker after beating the Panthers 3 weeks ago. Mt. View runs past Ridgeview 41-12. The Cougars will need to win out to bump either Bend, or Redmond out of the playoffs.

On the 4-A gridiron…Sisters routs Junction City 42-19 and the Outlaws can secure the #2 playoff spot in the Sky-Em League with a win hosting Sweet Home this week.

Other scores from Friday, La Pine was blanked by Harrisburg 27-zip. The Eagles need a win at Pleasant Hill Friday for a shot at the playoffs.

Trail Blazers Release Montero

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are releasing guard Luis Montero.  The 23-year-old appeared in 12 games for Portland last season and averaged 1.2 points.  Seventeen players are currently on the Blazers' roster.  The team will need to trim its roster from to 15 players by the start of the regular season.

(Portland, OR)  --   The Trail Blazers suffered a 106-97 loss to the Nuggets in preseason play last night.  Portland wraps up the preseason with a pair of road matchups this week.  The Blazers take on the Utah Jazz on Wednesday and the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

On the W-H-L ice…the Portland Winterhawks concluded the 2 week road trip in Spokane Saturday night beating the Chiefs, 3-2 for the Hawks third straight win. Portland is home tomorrow night hosting Tri Cities.

Utah Edges Oregon State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Joe Williams rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown as number-21 Utah took down Oregon State, 19-14, in Corvallis on Saturday.  The Beavers limited Utah to 88 yards of offense in the second half but were unable to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit.  OSU drops to 2-and-4 with the loss.  The Beavers visit Seattle to take on the 5th-ranked Washington Huskies on Saturday afternoon.

Crawford, Clippers Edge Trail Blazers

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Jamal Crawford's last-second basket pushed the Clippers past the Trail Blazers, 109-108, at the Staples Center.  C.J. McCollum led Portland with 20 points.  Damian Lillard added 19 points for the Blazers.  Portland returns home to host the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night at the Moda Center.  The loss dropped the Blazers to 3-and-1 in preseason action.

Seahawks DE Frank Clark On Day-To-Day Status

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks say defensive end Frank Clark is listed as day-to-day while he deals with hamstring problems.  Clark missed his second straight practice yesterday as Seattle prepares for its game with Atlanta this Sunday.  Running back C.J. Prosise [[ PRO-syse ]] practiced yesterday with his hand wrapped as he continues to recover from a broken wrist bone he suffered during the season opener.  It's not clear whether he'll be able to play Sunday.

Cougars Are 5-point Favorites Over UCLA

(Pullman, WA)  --  The surging Washington State Cougars are favored by five points in tomorrow night's game with UCLA in Pullman.  Wazzu, which is 3-and-2, is riding high following impressive wins over Oregon and Stanford.  The 3-and-3 Bruins may be without the services of their starting quarterback, Josh Rosen, because of a leg injury.  Kickoff tomorrow night at Martin Stadium is set for 7:30.
 

Timbers Host Rapids

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will try to climb back into the playoff race when the Colorado Rapids visit Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.  Portland is in seventh place in the Western Conference with 41 points at 11-13-and-8.  The Sounders trail Sporting Kansas City by two points for the final playoff spot in the West.  Colorado sits atop of the Western Conference standings with 57 points at 15-5-and-12.

Trail Blazers tonight

Moving indoors to NBA preseason action, your Portland Trailblazers gunning for a 4-and-0 start to the exhibition preseason when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers tonight in southern California. It’s a 7:30 p.m. tipoff on KBND and nationally televised on T-N-T.

The Blazers beat the Lakers in L-A Tuesday night, 109-106 and will return home tonight after the game, then will host the Denver Nuggets Sunday night at the Rose Garden.

Oregon Basketball To Host Block Party

(Eugene, OR)  --  Fans can get an up-close look at the University of Oregon's basketball teams when the Ducks host a community block party this Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena.  The fan fest will include scrimmages, a three-point contest and a slam dunk contest.  A meet and greet autograph session will wrap up the festivities.  Doors open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, with activities beginning at 4:30 p.m.  There is no cost to attend.

Clippers Host Trail Blazers

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Trail Blazers wrap up their first road trip of the preseason tonight against the LA Clippers at STAPLES Center.  Portland is coming off a 109-106 overtime win against the Lakers on Tuesday.  The Blazers are 3-and-0 in the preseason.

Seahawks Look To Improve Running Game

(Renton, WA) --  The Seahawks continue preparations for Sunday's game against NFC South-leading Atlanta.  Seattle has had to deal with numerous injuries in the offensive backfield, and is currently averaging only 93 yards per game in rushing offense.  Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell says the running game should improve as quarterback Russell Wilson gets healthier as he recovers from early-season ankle and knee injuries.  Bell says Wilson's threat as a runner makes the entire rushing game more effective.

College Football Preview

(Undated)  --  Oregon State will try to even its record when the Beavers host Utah on Saturday afternoon at Reser Stadium.  The Beavers are 2-and-3 on the year.  The 21st-ranked Utes are 5-and-1.  Oregon is trying to figure out how to save its season while on a bye this week.  The 2-and-4 Ducks have dropped four straight.  They'll visit the Cal Bears in Berkeley on Friday, October 21st.  Portland State will celebrate homecoming when Cal Poly visits Providence Park on Saturday afternoon.  The Vikings are 2-and-4, while the number-19 Mustangs are 3-and-2.

On the prep Volleyball hardwood last night, a classic premier showdown on the west side as 3rd Bend and defending 5A Champion Summit Storm tangled for more then bragging rights. The IMC Crown on the line and Bend looking for a season series sweep of the Storm. But…that didn’t happen as Summit beats Bend 3 games to 1.

Major League Baseball playoffs….the Dodgers stay alive and force a deciding 5th game Thursday in the nation’s capital as the Dodgers beat Washington yesterday, 6-5.

The Giants blow a 5-2 lead in the 9th inning as the Cubs come from behind to beat, and eliminate the San Francisco, 6-5. The Cubs meet the winner of the Dodgers vs. Nationals game tomorrow for the N-L pennant.

The American League Championship series will feature Cleveland and Toronto with the Indians holding home field advantage.

Wrong Runner Awarded Trophy At Portland Marathon

(Portland, OR)  --  The trophy for first-place in the Portland Marathon ended up in the wrong runner's hands.  Mathew Palilla from Bend, was the first person to cross the finish line, but the trophy he earned ended up with someone else.  Third-place finisher Nate Bowen was accidently given the trophy.  After much confusion Palilla was given his award.

Blazers' Lillard Collaborates With Raphael Saadiq On Track

(Portland, OR)  --  Blazers star guard Damian Lillard is teaming up with Grammy-winning artist Raphael Saadiq.  The pair have released a new track on Sound Cloud titled "Hero."  Lillard continues his off-the-court passion for music under the stage name Dame D.O.L.L.A.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon Ducks football coach Mark Helfrich is not concerned about his future.  Helfrich is "concerned with right now."  The Ducks have lost four in-a-row and are 2-and-4 overall.  Oregon is off this weekend, and visits Cal on October 21st.

Seahawks Add Fullback To Practice Squad

(Renton, WA)  --  Former New York Jet Julian Howsare is now a member of the Seahawks' practice squad.  Howsare, a fullback who was used mainly on special teams for the Jets, fills the tenth and final spot on Seattle's practice squad.  The "Seattle Times" reports Howsare gives the Seahawks a fullback option to look at as the team doesn't currently have a player at that position on its active roster.
 

Cougars Linebacker Tago Suspended

(Pullman, WA)  --  Washington State University linebacker Logan Tago is being suspended from the team because of his legal problems.  Tago has been charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor assault, after being accused in connection with an incident in which a man's beer was stolen this past June.  A WSU spokesman tells the "Seattle Times" that Tago won't be allowed to play while suspended.  His first court appearance is slated for November 4th.

From Major League Baseball playoffs, the Red Sox bowed out as Cleveland swept Boston 3-games to none. The Indians beat The Bosox last night in Bean Town, 4-3. Cleveland advances to the American League Championship Series to face Toronto.

In the National League…the Dodgers have a must win game today in LA with Game-4 hosting the Washington Nationals. Yesterday, the Nats blasted LA, 8-3 to go up 2-1 in the Best of 5 Series. The winner awaits the Cubs or Giants where last night San Francisco goes 13-innings to beat the Cubs, 6-5 and stay alive in the series. Game-4 today at 2pm in the Bay area…another must-win game for SF.

Ducks AD "Disappointed"

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon athletic director Rob Mullen says he is "disappointed," but continues to support head football coach Mark Helfrich.  The Ducks lost their fourth straight game on Saturday in a rout to Washington and are 2-and-4 overall.  It is the program's worst start to a season in 30 years.  Mullens says "everyone's disappointed."

Blazers' McCollum: Athletes Don't Talk Like Trump

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum is denying presidential candidate Donald Trump's claims his language in his infamous "Access Hollywood" video was "locker room" talk.  McCollum took to Twitter to say he hasn't heard those kind of conversations in any locker rooms.  The video shows Trump having a lewd conversation about women with a TV host.

Timbers' Gleeson Ruled Out Of Tonight's Friendly

(Washington, DC)  --  Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson is being ruled out for tonight's friendly between New Zealand and the United States in Washington, DC.  The New Zealand federation ruled Gleeson out of the contest with a minor groin injury.  The Timbers are back on the pitch Saturday against Colorado.  Gleeson leads MLS with 112 saves this season.

Seahawks Back At Practice After Bye Week

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back at practice to prepare for their game against Atlanta this weekend.  Head coach Pete Carroll says his team benefited from the time off and came back "charged up."  Carroll says quarterback Russell Wilson "looked normal" yesterday, after having a few additional days to recuperate from ankle and knee injuries he suffered early in the season.  Kickoff Sunday at CenturyLink Field is scheduled for 1:25 p.m.

Oregon AD: Will Continue To Support Helfrich

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon's athletics director says he's disappointed and frustrated that the Ducks have lost four games in a row, but he will continue to support head coach Mark Helfrich and his staff.  A.D. Rob Mullens made the remarks yesterday during a radio interview, two days after Oregon saw their 12-game winning streak against Washington snapped with a 70-21 loss.  Mullens says despite the team's two-and-four record, there's still an opportunity to turn things around and see positive results.

Recapping prep football under the Friday Night Lights where Summit is the new #1 team as per the OSAA power rankings after the Storm (5-1) shutout Bend, 26-to-nothing, handing the Lava Bears their first loss against 5 wins. Bend is now ranked 7th in the State.

ON the Pac-12 gridiron, the Washington Huskies avenged a 12-game losing streak to Oregon in a big way Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium in Eugene in the 114-year rivalry as the 5th ranked Dawgs backed up their big bark, by taking a big bite out of the the Ducks, 70-21.

Oregon started freshman quarterback Justin Herbert, a Sheldon High graduate, who threw an interception on his first pass of the game, but ended up with 179 yards and 2-TDs. (Bite) Herbert is the first freshmen to start for Oregon since another Sheldon alum, Chris Miller, did so in 1983.

Husky QB Jake Browning threw for 6 touchdowns on 22 of 28 passing for 304-yards as a sophomore. Washington amassed 682 yards in total offense handing Oregon its 4th straight loss to drop to 2-and-4 overall.

Oregon has a bye week this week before playing at Cal on the 14th.

Cal lost in Corvallis Saturday night as the Beavers grabbed their first conference win in two seasons outlasting The Bears, 47-44. Ryan Nall (nahl) rushed for 221 yards and 3 scores leading the Beavs to a 2-and-3 record. OSU will host Utah this weekend.

Utah held off Arizona beating the Wildcats 36-23; Washington State is for real as the Cougs smash #15 Stanford in Palo Alto, 42-16. USC takes down Colorado, 21-17; UCLA loses at Arizona State, 23-20.

Trail Blazers Down Suns

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland remained perfect in the preseason as the Trail Blazers downed the Phoenix Suns, 115-110, at the Moda Center on Friday night.  Shabazz Napier led the team with 20 points.  Noah Vonleh added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Portland is 2-and-0 and visits the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night at the Staples Center.

Beavers Down Bears In OT

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Quarterback Darell Garretson's 16-yard rushing touchdown pushed the Beavers past the Cal Bears, 47-44, in overtime on Saturday night.  Garretson finished with 105 rushing yards and two scores.  Ryan Nall led OSU's ground attack with 221 yards and three TDs.  The Beavers improved to 2-and-3 with the win.  They'll host the Utah Utes on Saturday afternoon at Reser Stadium.

Huskies Dominate Ducks

(Eugene, OR)  --  Jake Browning threw for 304 yards and six scores as the Huskies dominated the Ducks, 70-21, at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.  Oregon's Justin Herbert threw for 179 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the first start of his career.  Taj Griffin and Tony Brooks-James each collected 60 yards on the ground.  The Ducks have dropped four straight to fall to 2-and-4.  Oregon is on a bye this week and will visit the Cal Bears on Saturday, October 21st.
 

Wildcats Edge Vikings

(Ogden, UT)  --  Portland State came up short on Saturday, losing to Weber State, 14-10, in Ogden, Utah.  Quarterback Alex Kuresa rushed for the Vikings' only TD of the game.  The loss dropped PSU to 2-and-4 on the season and 1-and-2 in Big Sky Conference play.  Portland State hosts Cal Poly at Providence Park on Saturday afternoon.
 

Oregon State Preps For Utah After Holding Off Cal

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State Beavers hope to even their record at 3-and-3 next weekend, when they host Utah in a PAC-12 matchup.  The Beavers held off a furious rally by Cal Saturday to win in overtime, 47-44.  The Golden Bears sent the game into OT by scoring 24 fourth-quarter points.  Kickoff next Saturday in Corvallis is set for one p.m.
 

Ducks Have Open Date Before Cal Game

(Eugene, OR)  --  The reeling Oregon Ducks have an open date after their nightmarish 70-21 loss to Washington in Eugene Saturday night.  The Ducks suffered their fourth straight loss as Huskies quarterback Jake Browning passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two more, enabling Washington to post the most lopsided score in series history.  Oregon will visit Cal on Friday, October 21st.  Washington, who also has a bye week, will play Oregon State in Seattle the following day.

Bud Light Thursday Night Football from the bay area last night saw the Arizona Cardinals hand Chip Kelly and the 49-ers their 4th straight loss against just one win.  Cardinals win it 33-21. The Niners travel to Buffalo one week from Sunday.

Ex-Seahawk Coleman Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Assault, Hit-and-run

(Seattle, WA)  --  Former Seahawks running back Derrick Coleman is slated to be sentenced in a week, after pleading guilty to vehicular-assault and hit-and-run charges.  Police say Coleman claimed to have smoked a synthetic drug with effects similar to those of marijuana, about an hour before an October 2015 crash in Bellevue that left another driver with a broken collarbone.  Coleman initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but a plea agreement reached this week may enable him to avoid jail time and perform community service.

Ducks, Huskies To Meet In PAC-12 Clash In Eugene

(Eugene, OR)  --  The struggling Oregon Ducks will host the undefeated Washington Huskies tomorrow.  The Huskies are ranked sixth in the USA Today Coaches Poll after clobbering Stanford, 44-6, in last week's contest.  The Ducks are on a three-game losing skid after falling last week to Washington State, 51-33.  Kickoff tomorrow at Autzen Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m. Pre-game on KBND at 2:30 pm.

Major Leagues

Another great Big League Wildcard Playoff game where last night in New York the Mets and Giants battled to a scoreless tie until the 9th inning when San Francisco’s Conor Gillespie smacked a 3-run Home Run to beat the Mets, 3-Zip.

The Giants Madison Bumgarner pitched a complete-game 4-hitter, striking out 6 to earn his 16th win of the season and his 5th complete game of the season. SF heads to Chicago to meet the Cubs to open the National League Division playoff series Friday night at 6pm on Fox Sports One.

Tonight…both American League Divisional Playoff series get under way when Texas hosts Toronto at 130p on T-B-S network, followed by Cleveland greeting the Red Sox at 5pm.

The Dodgers play in the nation’s Capital Friday afternoon at 230pm facing the Nationals in the other N-L playoff series.
 

High School Sports

We start with prep Volleyball where they’re down to the final two weeks of League play with Playoff spots looming large on the horizon, and the 3rd ranked and I-M-C leading Lady Lava Bears of Bend looking for some separation with 2nd place Summit.

Bend will play host to Redmond tonight with the Varsity match starting at 6pm.  The Lava Bears are are 10-and-5 on the season and led by Seniors Kaci Cox and Katie Reed who swept Mt. View Tuesday night 3-zip.

The Lady Cougars entertain 5A defending Champion Summit. A Cougar win forces a tie for second place with the Storm with 4 matches to go until the Playoffs.

Elsewhere…Ridgeview is on the road at Hood River this evening.

In the 4-A Tri-Valley…2nd rated Crook County greets Estacada; Madras travels to Gladstone, and third ranked Sisters ventures over the hill to Sutherlin in Sky-Em League action.

And…in 2-A net action, #2 Culver (17-1) hosts #5 Weston-McEwen today at 4pm.

On Saturday, Bend High will host the annual famed ‘Clearwater Classic’ with many of the state’s top-ranked Volleyball teams in all divisions including Crook County and Sisters taking on the top 6-A powers in the State.
 

Hockey

Western Hockey League season is underway and the Portland Winter Hawks netted their first win of the early campaign last night with a 5-3 win at Prince Albert. The Hawks are out on the road for a 7-game road trip to start the W-H-L season. Portland skates at Moose Jaw Friday night and Saskatoon Saturday. The Home opener is Wednesday the 18th hosting Tri City.

Timbers Hoping For Playoff Push

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers are hoping to make a final playoff push when they return to the field from their bye.  Portland is currently seventh in the Western Conference at 11-13-and-8 with 41 points, two points behind Sporting Kansas City for the final playoff spot in the West.  The Colorado Rapids visit Providence Park on Sunday, October 16th.

Blazers Host Suns

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers host the Phoenix Suns tomorrow night at the Moda Center. Tip-off at 7:00 p.m. on KBND.  Portland is coming off a 98-89 win over the Utah Jazz in the preseason opener.  After tomorrow night's game, the Blazers will spend four of the five remaining preseason games on the road.  Portland opens the regular season on Tuesday, October 25th at home against the Utah Jazz.

Wildcats Host Vikings In Big Sky Matchup

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State hits the road this weekend looking for its first back-to-back wins of the football season.  Weber State hosts the Vikings in a Big Sky Conference matchup at Stewart Stadium on Saturday night in Ogden, Utah.  PSU is 2-and-3 on the year.  The Wildcats are 2-and-2.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team is returning home to Reser Stadium this weekend to host the Cal Bears.  The Beavers are 1-and-3 on the season, having dropped two straight.  The Bears are 3-and-2 on the year.  Saturday night's matchup against the Golden Bears will be the first of two consecutive home games for OSU.

Ryan Named NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week

(Undated)  --  Seahawks punter Jon Ryan is the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week.  Ryan had a standout performance during last Sunday's game against the Jets, punting five times for a 40-point-six-yard average, with four downed inside the 20-yard line.  One 56-yard boomer pinned the Jets at their own eight.  It's the second time in his career that Ryan has won the special-teams award.
 

PSU Basketball Opens Preseason

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland State men's basketball team has begun preseason practice in preparation for the upcoming season.  The Vikings host Linfield College in an exhibition matchup on November 4th.  PSU opens the regular season on November 11th against Arizona State University.

Jets' Pryor Fined For Hit On Seahawks' Baldwin

(New York, NY)  --  New York Jets strong safety Calvin Pryor is being assessed a 25-thousand-dollar fine for a hit he made last Sunday on Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin.  Baldwin had just made a 38-yard catch in the second quarter when he was hit hard by Pryor in the helmet area.  Pryor was flagged on the play, and was slapped with the fine by the NFL yesterday.  He says he's not sure whether it was a clean hit but doesn't believe it's worth 25-grand.
 

WA HS Football Players Upset About Forfeits

(Everett, WA)  --  The members of the Archbishop Murphy football team in Everett, Washington are upset that their third straight game is being cancelled by forfeit.  After the Wildcats won their first three games of the season by scores of 73-0, 59-0, and 38-0, their three subsequent opponents have forfeited their games against Murphy.  Those opponents say they don't want to take the field against the Class 2A Wildcats, whose players are, on average, taller and heavier than other kids in their age group.  Jerry Jensen, head coach at the Catholic private school, says he hopes changes can be made that don't allow teams to forfeit games three days before they're scheduled to be played.

High School Sports

We start with High School Volleyball where last night 3rd ranked Bend swept rival Mt. View 3-games to None.

The Lady Lava Bears are 4-and-0, and 10-and-5 overall leading the IMC by 1-game over Summit. Next up for Bend, they will host Redmond Thursday night. The Panthers were blanked by cross-town rival Ridgeview last night, 3-zip.

From the big league diamond…the hunt for October is underway with the MLB Wildcard playoffs and the Baltimore Orioles season came to an end last night in Toronto as the Blue Jays break a 2-2 tie in the 11th-Inning on a Edwin Encarnarcion (en-car-nar-see-ohn) walk-off 3-run Home Run to send the Jays to the American League Divisional series.  Toronto will travel to Texas to face the Rangers beginning tomorrow afternoon in a
Best-Of 5-game series.

The other America League series sees Cleveland hosting the Red Sox also tomorrow night.

Tonight in the National League…those amazing Mets will host the Giants who won the pennant, the Giants won the pennant, won the pennant in each of the last 3 even years. New York and San Francisco tonight at 5pm on ESPN-TV in a 1-game playoff. The winner meets the Cubbies and Washington greets the Dodgers, both on Friday in the N-L Divisional series.

NCAAF

On to College football and this weeks Associated Press ratings where Alabama and Ohio State remain the top-2 rated teams, followed by Clemson, Michigan, and the Washington Huskies the top-5.

The Huskies visit Eugene Saturday afternoon here on KBND for a 430pm kickoff against the Ducks who will try to snap a 3-game losing skid. Washington is favored to beat Oregon for the first time in 20-years and looks to snap a 12-game win streak the Ducks have over the Dawgs.

There is a report by 24/7 Sports claiming the Ducks will start freshman, and Sheldon graduate, Justin Herbert at quarterback over senior transfer Dakota Prukop (prooh-cop).

Meantime, back to the A-P ratings…Houston is ranked 6th, then it’s Louisville, Texas A & M, Tennessee, and Miami making up the top-10.
Stanford drops to #15…Colorado (4-1) moves into the top-25 for the first time in years at #21, and Utah slips to 24th.

Trail Blazers Continue Training Camp

(Tualatin, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers continue to gear up for the 2016-17 NBA season.  Portland returns to the hardwood for its second preseason contest at home against the Phoenix Suns on Friday.  The Blazers opened their exhibition slate with a 98-89 victory over the Utah Jazz.  The team tips the regular season October 25th at home against the Jazz.

Blazers' Lillard Not A Fan Of Super Teams

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard isn't a fan of super teams.  Lillard says he "wouldn't do it.  That's not who I am.  I might have too much pride for that."  The NBA has seen several teams comprised of big name players joining from other teams, with the latest being Kevin Durant signing with the Golden State Warriors.

Report: Herbert To Start For Ducks

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks will have a different look starting under center this Saturday.  According to 24/7 Sports, true freshman Justin Herbert will start over Dakota Prukop on Saturday against sixth-ranked Washington.  Prukop has thrown for over 11-hundred yards and eight touchdowns this season for the 2-and-3 Ducks.
 

Seahawks LB Morgan Has Abdominal Surgery

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks linebacker Mike Morgan, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, says surgery that was performed on his abdomen was a success.  The "News Tribune" reports yesterday's procedure was intended to fix a sports-hernia-like condition.  Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Morgan would likely be out for about five weeks.  The Seahawks have signed linebacker Jordan Tripp from the practice squad to fill Morgan's spot on the active roster.
 

Oregon Assistant: Huskies' Losing Streak Won't End

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Washington Huskies are favorites to defeat the Oregon Ducks in Saturday's game at Autzen Stadium, but one Ducks assistant coach says he doesn't buy it.  "The Oregonian" reports longtime offensive line coach Steve Greatwood believes Oregon will continue to hold the upper hand in the rivalry, during which the Ducks have won the last 12 straight games.  Huskies head coach Chris Petersen says he won't be mentioning the 12-game streak to his players and won't be making them available for interviews this week.

Blazers Open Preseason With Win

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers opened preseason play with a 98-89 home win over the Jazz.  Damian Lillard had 16 points and five assists in 23 minutes of action.  The Blazers continue their preseason Friday at home against the Phoenix Suns.

Garretson To Start Against Cal

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Darrell Garretson will start under center for Oregon State this week against Cal.  Garretson was pulled for backup Conor Blount in the Beavers' 47-6 loss at Colorado.  It was second straight game Blount relieved Garretson.  OSU is 1-and-3 overall.

Ducks To Wear "Webfoots" Uniforms Saturday

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks will be dawning their "Webfoots" uniforms this week against the Washington Huskies.  The team debuted the uniforms during the spring game.  The Ducks will wear tops that are navy blue with yellow lettering with "Webfoots" across the chest.  The pants are black.  Oregon is 2-and-3 overall.

Three Mariners Pitchers Considering Offseason Surgery

(Seattle, WA)  --  Now that the Mariners' season is over, three pitchers on the staff are considering having surgery during the offseason.  Taijuan Walker is experiencing irritation in his right foot.  Reliever Steve Cishek may undergo a procedure for a labrum tear in his hip.  And reliever Tony Zych could have shoulder surgery, a procedure Mariners general manager Jerry DiPoto says would be more of a "cleanup."

Winterhawks Sign A Pair

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are adding a pair of defensemen.  The team has signed Nick Cicek and Darren Gisti.  Cicek was the Hawks' seventh round pick in 2015.  Gisti was added to the Hawks' protected list in August.  The team meets the Swift Current Broncos tonight at 7:00

NCAAF

It’s the worst start since 2007 for the Oregon Ducks who lose their third straight game, and second straight to Washington State as the Cougars stuff the Ducks 51-33.

Oregon, 2-and-3, returns home Saturday to greet the undefeated and
7th ranked Washington Huskies who mauled Stanford Friday night, 44-6.

The Beavers were pounded in Colorado, 47-6. Cal upset 18th ranked Utah, 28-23. USC scores a 41-20 win over Arizona State, and UCLA blows by Arizona, 45-24.

High School Sports

Recapping High School football from Friday night…2nd Ranked Summit defeated Mt. View 29-14. The Storm will host 6th ranked Bend this week after the Lava Bears routed Ridgeview 51-7. Redmond took down Pendleton 49-21.

In the 4A ranks…Sisters turned back at Cottage Grove 34-22. Madras crushed by Estacada 66-7 and Crook County remains winless after losing at Woodburn 43-18.

La Pine is undefeated at 4-and-0 with its 52-21 win at Glide. Culver lost to Stanfield 62-21, and Gilchrist pounded by Triad 66-20

NFL

Russell Wilson throw 3 TD passes in New York as the Seahawks beat the Jets, 27-17 to improve to 3-and-1. The Hawks have a bye this week before hosting the Falcons in 2 weeks.

Chip Kelly’s 49-ers can’t hold a 14-to-nothing lead over the Cowboys and lose to Dallas, 24-17. The Niners, 1-and-3, host the Cardinals Thursday night.

The Oakland Raiders improve to 3-and-1 with their 28-27 win in Baltimore edging the Ravens. Bud Light Monday Night Football has the 3-and-0 Vikings hosting the 2-and-1 Giants at 530pm on ESPN-TV.

Trail Blazers Host Jazz

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers open the preseason tonight against the Utah Jazz at the Moda Center.  It is the first of three games that Portland will host in preseason play.  The Blazers will also hit the road for four exhibition matchups.  Tip is at 7:00 p.m.

Major Leagues

The Hunt for October begins with Major League Baseball playoffs, and the Mariners eliminated from the Wildcard race after the A’s win two in Seattle.
Toronto hosts Baltimore Tuesday in the A-L Wildcard game. The winner plays in Texas Thursday, and Cleveland hosts the Red Sox in the other Divisional series.

The Giants sweep the Dodgers over the weekend and will travel to face the Mets in New York Wednesday. The winner plays the Cubs Friday while the Dodgers meet the Nationals in D-C in the other N-L Divisional playoff series.

Buffaloes Sink Beavers

(Boulder, CO)  --  Oregon State jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but it was all Colorado after that as the Buffaloes destroyed the Beavers, 47-6, in Boulder.  Garrett Owens connected on a pair of field goals for OSU.  Freshman running back Artavis Pierce ran for a career-high 61 yards.  Oregon State dropped to 1-and-3 on the year.  The Beavers host the Cal Bears on Saturday night at Reser Stadium.

Cougars Maul Ducks

(Pullman, WA)  --  After being tied at 14 in the second quarter, Washington State closed out the game with a 37-19 run to down Oregon, 51-33, at Martin Stadium.  It was the Ducks' third consecutive loss and second straight in conference play.  Royce Freeman led the ground attack with 138 yards and three touchdowns.  Oregon is 2-and-3 on the season.  The Ducks host number-six Washington at Autzen Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Rapids Blank Timbers

(Commerce City, CO)  --  Sebastien Le Toux scored the lone goal of the match as the Rapids blanked the Timbers, 1-nil, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday.  Portland dropped to 11-13-and-8 with the loss.  The Timbers are seventh in the Western Conference with 41 points.  Portland is off until Sunday, October 16th when the Rapids visit Providence Park.

Huskies Move Up To No. 6 In Coaches Poll

(Undated)  --  The Washington Huskies continue to rise in the USA Today College Football Coaches Poll, after their impressive win over Stanford.  Washington is ranked sixth, moving up from ninth last week.  Stanford fell nine spots to number 15, while Colorado broke into the rankings at 23rd after defeating Oregon State.  Utah fell from 18th to 24th.  Alabama remains at number one.

Seahawks Roll Past Jets, 27-17

(East Rutherford, NJ)  --  The Seahawks will have a bye week after earning a road win over the New York Jets, 27-17.  Russell Wilson, who played with a sprained MCL, threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns yesterday to lead Seattle to its third win against one loss.  Christine Michael rushed for 58 yards on 18 carries.  The Hawks will next play at home versus Atlanta on October 16th.
