High School Football

Prep football under the Friday Night Lights where League play begins and 5th ranked Mt. View entertains Summit at Jack Harris Stadium on the eastside in a 7pm kickoff. Bend travels to South Salem to battle the Saxons.

 

In the 5A IMC, Redmond hosts 9th ranked Thurston while Ridgeview greets Willamette. 

 

Elsewhere, in the 4A division…Sisters looks for an upset and the Outlaws first win of the fall when they host #7 Newport. Crook County entertains North Marion. League opener for Madras taking on Yamhill-Carlton, and 
La Pine ventures to 7th ranked Sutherlin. Culver battles Santiam at 7pm in Culver.

 

Today at 3pm in 8-man football North Lake welcomes Chiloquin, and Gilchrist plays at Eddyville at 4:30.

NCAA Football

In the Pac-12 tomorrow night in Berkley, 24th ranked Cal hosts #19 Oregon in a 730 kickoff on Fox Sports One. The Beavers are at Arizona State at 7 on the Pac-12 network. #11 Washington faces 20th ranked BYU at 5 on Fox, #7 Stanford is at #8 Notre Dame…Washington State hosts Utah.

 

Tonight, UCLA plays at Colorado. Last night #19 Miami ran past North Carolina, 47-10.

 

3rd ranked Southern Oregon, 4-and-0 on the year, has the weekend off in NAIA play.
 

Trail Blazers Open With Raptors Tomorrow

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are preparing for their preseason opener.  They will play the first of five preseason games tomorrow against the Toronto Raptors in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Portland will host Utah on October 7th for its first game at the Moda Center.

(Undated)  --  In local college football action tomorrow, Oregon will play at unbeaten Cal in Berkley, Oregon State will face Arizona State in Tempe and Portland State will be at Idaho in a Big Sky contest.  The Ducks may be without senior running back Tony Brooks-James and defensive end Austin Faoliu, who are both injured.

Dukart Leaves OSU Football Program

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Freshman quarterback Jake Dukart has left the Oregon State football program.  Dukart remains enrolled in school.  He is a standout baseball player and could opt to concentrate on that sport.  The Red Sox selected the third baseman in the 36th round in June out of Lake Oswego High.  He hit .371 with 17 stolen bases and struck out only four times as a senior.

Mariners Blanked By Rangers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners were held to three singles as they fell to the Rangers 2-0 at Safeco Field.  Zach Duke gave up a pair of seventh inning runs to take the loss.  Mitch Haniger, Daniel Vogelbach and Ben Gamel had the Seattle hits.   The M's have dropped four-of-five.

Timbers Facing Dallas On Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will return to the turf tomorrow, hosting MLS West front-runner FC Dallas at Providence Park.  Portland is coming off a 3-2 loss last weekend to the Minnesota United FC in Minneapolis.  The Timbers hold a two-point lead over Real Salt Lake for fourth place in the West with 47 points.

M's Continue With Rangers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners continue their series with the Rangers tonight.  Wade LeBlanc starts for the M's, while Texas turns to Martin Perez.  Seattle is third in the AL West at 86-and-73.

Baldwin Says He's Ready To Go

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks may have Doug Baldwin back in time for their Week Four game Sunday at Arizona.  Baldwin said he is ready to go after a knee injury held him out of the last two games.  He was a limited participant in yesterday's practice.  Running back Chris Carson was also limited, while safety Earl Thomas and linebacker Bobby Wagner were full participants.

High School Volleyball and Soccer

On the prep volleyball courts tonight, 4th ranked Summit takes on 4-and-4 Mt. View on the eastside, while the 8th ranked Bend Lady Lava Bears travel to McNary. 

 

In the 5A IMC, after Ridgeview’s huge win over Crook County Tuesday night, the Lady Ravens venture to Pendleton this evening. Crook County hosts Redmond.

 

7th ranked Sisters tries to maintain 2nd place in the 4A Oregon-West as the Outlaws entertain Newport at 6pm, and Madras welcomes Molalla.

 

Elsewhere, La Pine plays at Harrisburg and Culver visits Colton.

 

In Boy’s soccer yesterday, 2nd ranked Summit snuck past Bend, 1-zip.

 

Today, Ridgeview visits The Dalles, Redmond takes on Hood River and Crook County hosts Pendleton. In other boy’s matches today, Madras greets Molalla, and Sisters travels to Newport.

Former Blazers Assistant Jack McKinney Dies

(Bonita Springs, FL)  --  Former Trail Blazers assistant coach Jack McKinney died at a hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida.  He was 83.  He was Jack Ramsay's lead assistant on the Portland team that won the 1977 NBA championship.  He was named the Lakers head coach in 1979, but after a 9-and-4 start, McKinney suffered a brain injury in a bicycle accident.  McKinney later was the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and Kansas City Kings.

Mariners Tumble To A's

(Seattle, WA)  --  Felix Hernandez took the loss as the Mariners dropped a 9-3 decision to the Athletics in Seattle.  Hernandez yielded five runs, one unearned, on three hits and two walks in four innings.  Ben Gamel drove in two of the Seattle runs.  The Mariners are 42-and-35 at Safeco Field.

M's End With Rangers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners begin their final series of the season tonight at home.  They welcome the Rangers to Safeco Field for a four-game series.  Marco Gonzales gets the start for the M's, while Texas turns to Ariel Jurado.  Seattle is third in the AL West at 86-and-72.  Texas is last in the division with a 66-and-92 record.

Seahawks To Clash With Cardinals Sunday

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are getting set to clash with the division rival Cardinals Sunday in the desert.  Safety Earl Thomas did not practice yesterday as head coach Pete Carroll gave him a rest day.  Seattle takes at 1-and-2 record to Arizona, which is 0-and-3 after blowing a 14-0 lead against the Bears this past Sunday.

High School Sports

Big match on the 5A volleyball hardwood last night in Redmond where Number-2 and Number-3 clashed. Ridgeview shutout Crook County 3-zip to take over the top spot in the IMC. The two teams will meet again next month on the 16th in Prineville. In other 5A action, The Dalles blanked Redmond 3-to-nothing.

 

Meantime, in the new 6A Mountain Valley Conference, Summit and Bend who both moved up a level scored shutout wins last night. The Storm cruised past South Salem 3-nil, and Bend was a 3-zip winner over McKay. Mt. View took down McNary, 3-1.

 

Madras beat Gladstone 3-zip and Santiam Christian shut down La Pine,

3-0. Culver zipped past Western Christian, 3-nil.

 

In Boy’s soccer yesterday, McKay nipped Mt. View, 1-to-nothing. Today, Summit entertains Bend under the lights at 7p.

 

Elsewhere yesterday, Ridgeview throttled Redmond, 7-zip and Hood River blew past Crook County, 7-1. Gladstone edged Madras, and Central Linn beat La Pine both by 2-1 counts.

Seahawks Prep For Cardinals, Make Roster Moves

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are making some roster moves as they gear up for their matchup with the Cardinals on Sunday.  Seattle waived tight end Darrell Daniels to make roster room for defensive end Branden Jackson, who was promoted from the practice squad.  Jackson will add depth to the defensive line while Dion Jordan recovers from a wrist injury.  The Seahawks enter the contest at 1-and-2, while Arizona seeks its first victory of the season.

Mariners Walk Off A's In Extras

(Seattle, WA)  --  Chris Hermann drilled a walk-off pinch homer in the 11th inning as the Mariners rallied past the Athletics 10-8 at Safeco Field.  Nelson Cruz and Juan Segura also went deep in the victory.  Alex Colome, the 10th Seattle pitcher, was credited with the win as the M's improved to 86-and-71.

Mariners Wrap Up Series With A's

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners host the Athletics tonight at Safeco Field  in the finale of their three-game series.  Felix Hernandez will get the start for Seattle, while Oakland responds with Edwin Jackson.  The M's will begin their final series of the season against the Rangers tomorrow at home.  Seattle has not qualified for the postseason since 2001.

Trail Blazers Open Camp Today With Harkless Restricted

(Portland, OR)  --  Moe Harkless will be limited in early practices as the Trail Blazers open training camp today.  The Portland small forward is recovering slowly from arthroscopic left knee surgery in late May.  Portland will open preseason play on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Robinson Cano and Dee Gordon homered for the Mariners in their 7-3 loss to the Athletics at Safeco Field.  Shawn Armstrong gave up a pair of runs in one inning to take the loss for Seattle.  The M's have lost back-to-back games to fall to 85-and-71 on the season.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners continue their three-game series with the Athletics tonight in Seattle.  Mike Leake will get the ball for the M's, while the A's plan to counter with Brett Anderson.  Seattle has come up short in five of its last eight.

Hernandez is a U.S. citizen

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez is officially a U.S. citizen.  The Venezuela native passed the citizenship interview yesterday in downtown Seattle.  Hernandez has gone 8-and-13 this season with a career-high 5.46 ERA.

(Undated)  --  In local college football action over the weekend, 19th-ranked Oregon squandered a 17-point lead and fell to number-seven Stanford 38-31 in overtime at Autzen Stadium.  The Ducks suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 3-and-1.

Elsewhere in college football, Oregon State was blasted by Arizona 35-14 in Corvallis and Portland State was drilled by Montana State 43-23 in Hillsboro.  The Beavers and Vikings are now 1-and-3 on the season.

Seahawks Roll Past Cowboys For First Win

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks dominated the Cowboys from start to finish in a 24-13 win at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle forced three Dallas' turnovers, including two Earl Thomas' interceptions.  Russell Wilson tossed two touchdowns and Chris Carson piled up 102 yards and a TD as the Seahawks improved to 1-and-2.

Timbers Come Up Short Against Minnesota

(Minneapolis, MN) --  The Timbers were unable to complete the comeback as they were dropped by Minnesota United FC 3-2 in Minneapolis.  Alvas Powell and Sebastian Blanco found the back of the net for Portland, which trailed 3-0 going into halftime.  The Timbers still hold a two-point lead over Real Salt Lake for fourth place in the West with 47 points.

Rangers Dump Mariners

(Arlington, TX)  --  Guillermo Heredia plated the lone run for the Mariners as they suffered a 6-1 loss to the Rangers in Arlington.  Wade LeBlanc gave up eight hits and three runs across five innings to take the loss.  Seattle dropped to 85-and-70 on the season.

M's Host Athletics

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners begin their final homestand of the season tonight against the Athletics at Safeco Field.  Seattle was officially eliminated from playoff contention over the weekend, which extended the longest postseason drought in U.S. pro sports.  James Paxton will take the mound for the M's opposite A's starter Daniel Mengden.

(Undated)  -- Number-seven Stanford and number-19 Oregon will meet in a showdown Saturday in Eugene to open Pac-12 play.  Stanford running back Bryce Love has been cleared to play after missing last week with an undisclosed injury.  Love was the runner up in the Heisman balloting last year.  Oregon State will host Arizona in its conference opener Saturday.  Portland State will face Montana State at Hillsboro Stadium in a Big Sky opener.

Timbers Will Play Tomorrow Night At Minnesota

(Minneapolis, MN) --  The Timbers will face Minnesota United tomorrow night at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.  Portland is coming off a 3-2 victory on Wednesday over the Columbus Crew.  The Timbers have 47 points and are tied for third place in the MLS West with 47 points.  Minnesota will try to snap a seven-game winless streak.  The Timbers beat the United 3-2 in April in Portland.

Ducks Receive Juco Guard Commitment

(Eugene, OR)  --  Northwest Florida State juco guard Chris Duarte has verbally committed to the Oregon Ducks.  The 6-foot-5 Dominican Republic native averaged 12.1 points as a freshman off the bench.  He is the first Ducks' commitment for the 2019 recruiting class.

M's Open Series At Rangers

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Mariners open their final road series of the season against the Rangers tonight in Arlington.  Erasmo Ramirez will get the ball for Seattle opposite Texas opener Connor Sadzeck.  The M's are 84-and-68 and trail Oakland by seven-and-a-half games for the final AL wild card spot. 

Seahawks Prep For Cowboys

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are missing a few key players ahead of Sunday's home opener against the Cowboys.  Starting linemen Ethan Pocic and Justin Britt missed the last two Seattle practices.  Russell Wilson has been sacked six times in each of the first two games which is more than any other quarterback in the league.  The Seahawks are 0-and-2, while Dallas enters the contest at 1-and-1.

Timbers Rally To Beat Crew

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers fell behind early, but rallied to top the Columbus Crew 3-2 at Providence Park in Portland.  The victory moved the Timbers into a tie with Los Angeles FC for third place in the MLS Western Conference with 47 points.  The Timbers will have little time to celebrate the victory as they play Saturday at Minnesota.

Mariners Blank Astros

(Houston, TX)  --  Robinson Cano went 3-for-4 with three RBI as the Mariners shut out the Astros 9-0 in Houston.  Kyle Seager, Mitch Haniger and Guillermo Heredia homered for Seattle.  Casey Lawrence allowed one hit over three innings to get the win as the M's improved to 84-and-68.

Blazers Sign Sponsorship Deal With Biofreeze

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have reached a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Performance Health and its pain reliever Biofreeze.  Biofreeze patches will adorn Portland jerseys.  The Blazers are the 24th NBA team to feature an advertising patch on its uniforms.
 

M's Open Series At Rangers

On the prep volleyball floor last night, #2 Crook County and third-ranked Ridgeview both scored league wins as the Cowgirls got out of Hood River with a 3-2 win, and the Ravens shutout Redmond 3-zip.

 

In 4A action, Sisters remains undefeated at 5-and-0 and in first place in the Oregon West Conference as the Outlaws snatched a 3-1 win at Stayton. Madras, meantime, lost its league opening match at Corbett, 3-zip.

Elsewhere, La Pine lost to Creswell in 3-games, and Culver blanked Colton, 3-to-nothing.

 

Tonight in the 6A new Mountain Valley League, #2 Summit travels to West Salem. 7th ranked Bend plays at Sprague with both teams tied for 2nd place in conference play. And, Mt. View visits South Salem.

 

In Girls non-league Soccer, Mt. View was a 3-1 winner at Lebanon.  Central beat Redmond, 5-to-1. Sisters lost 2-zip at Stayton. Today, La Pine hosts Pleasant Hill in a non-league match.

 

On the boy’s side…Crook County got by Lebanon 3-2, and Stayton blanked Sisters 7-zip. And, La Pine and Creswell played to a 1-1 draw yesterday.

Oregon State Cagers Add BYU Transfer

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Brigham Young forward Payton Dastrup has transferred to Oregon State.  The Beavers hope to have the 6-foot-10 Dastrup eligible for this season, bringing their roster to 14.  He averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 56 games with BYU.  He was a four-star recruit from Mesa, Arizona Mountain View High in 2014 and spent the next two years on a church mission in Panama.

Chiefs Release Former Oregon DB

(Kansas City, MO)  --  The Chiefs released former Oregon cornerback Arrion Springs from the practice squad.  He made 13 tackles in the preseason, but was waived during the 53-man roster cuts before being added to the practice squad.  He had 137 tackles and two interceptions in four years with the Ducks.

Mariners Blanked By Astros

(Houston, TX)  --  Five pitchers limited the Mariners to six hits in a 7-0 loss to the Astros in Houston.  Josh James pitched into the sixth inning for the Astros to outduel Seattle starter Mike Leake, who fell to 10-and-10.  Robinson Cano had three hits for Seattle in defeat.  The M's have dropped two of their last three.

M's, Astros Finish Series Tonight

(Houston, TX)  --  The Mariners and Astros finish their three-game series tonight in Houston.  Seattle will start Roenis Elias, while the 'Stros send Dallas Keuchel [[ KYE-kull ]] to the mound.  The Mariners are seven games out of the second AL wild card spot with 11 games left.  Their elimination number is down to five.

Seahawks Look Ahead To Cowboys

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are looking ahead to Sunday's home opener against the Cowboys.  Seattle is off to an 0-and-2 start after road losses at Denver and Chicago.  The Seahawks are playing five of their first seven games on the road.  Dallas beat the Giants Sunday night to even its record at 1-and-1.

Safeco Field Facelift Approved

(Seattle, WA)  --  Safeco Field is getting a facelift.  The King County Council is approving 135-million-dollars in public money to renovate the 19-year-old stadium.  The funding package passed by a 5-to-4 vote.  The Mariners were initially seeking 180-million as part of a 25-year extension with the Public Facilities District.

Former OSU Cager Signs With Spurs

(San Antonio, TX)  --  Former Oregon State center Drew Eubanks has signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs.  Eubanks left the Beavers after his junior season but went undrafted in 2018.  The 6-foot-10 Eubanks averaged 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds last season.  He is a Troutdale native and was impressive in the NBA Summer League.
 

Seahawks Fall Short Against Bears

(Chicago, IL)  --  Russell Wilson threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes, but it wasn't enough as the Seahawks lost 24-17 to the Bears in Chicago.  Wilson connected with Tyler Lockett and Will Dissly, but was sacked six times and also threw a pick-six.  Seattle dropped to 0-and-2.

Mariners Play Astros Again Tonight

(Houston, TX)  --  The Mariners and Astros play the second of their three-game series tonight in Houston.  Mike Leake takes the mound for Seattle and Josh James for the 'Stros.  The M's are seven games behind the Athletics for the second AL wild card.  Their elimination number is six.

M's, Vogelbach Slam 'Stros

(Houston, TX)  --  Rookie Daniel Vogelbach delivered a pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning to lift the Mariners to a 4-1 win over the Astros in Houston.  Ryan Cook came away with the win after starter Wade Miley allowed one run in five-and-a-third.  Seattle has won four of its last five.

High School Football

We rewind to Friday Night under the lights with the Prep Football scoreboard where the Bend Lava Bears won a thriller on the road beating North Medford in overtime, 29-28. Summit bounced back from last week’s loss to Grants Pass and throttled Newberg, 53-39. Grants Pass snatched its second win in the high desert in as many weeks as the Cavemen outscored Mt. View, 49-41.

In the 5A class…both Ridgeview and Redmond fell on the road as Ashland defeated the Ravens, 51-40 and North Eugene doubled up the Panthers, 20-to-10.

Elsewhere, Burns hammered La Pine 49-zip…Rainier downed Madras,
28-6…Crook County edged Sisters, 35-32….Gervais thrashed Culver,
46-7, and in 8-man ball, Butte Falls runs past North Lake, 46-10 and Gilchrist lost at home to Powers, 58-6.

(Houston, TX) --  Alejandro Fuenmayor scored the lone goal for the Timbers in their 4-1 loss to the Dynamo in Houston.  Portland is currently tied with the Sounders for fifth in the West with 44 points.  The Timbers will look to bounce back against Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Seahawks hit the field tonight to face the Bears in a Monday Night showdown at Soldier Field.  Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season after coming up short in week one.  Veteran linebacker Mychal Kendricks will make his debut with Seattle after being released by the Browns last month.  Kendricks was suspended after he plead guilty to insider trading last week, however he has been granted permission to play until his appeal is heard.

(Corvallis, OR)   --  Four-star defensive end Addison Gumbs has transferred from Oklahoma to Oregon State.  Gumbs opted to transfer from the Sooners after suffering a season-ending knee injury.  He was a U.S. Army All-American and was ranked the number nine defensive end in the 2017 high school class.  He will be eligible to play in 2019.

Seahawks' Baldwin Has Partial Grade 2 MCL Tear

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin could be out a while.  ESPN reports he has a partial Grade 2 tear of the MCL in his right knee.  Baldwin was hurt in the first quarter of Sunday's loss at Denver.  He did briefly return later in the half before being shut down for the day.  Baldwin did not have a catch.

OSU Baseball Coach Casey Retires

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Pat Casey, who coached Oregon State to three baseball national championships, announced he is retiring.  He coached the Beavers for 24 years, including winning the College World Series in June.  The Beavers had 900 victories and six trips to the College World Series under his watch.  The 59-year-old Casey shed tears in a 30-minute retirement news conference.  Associate head coach Pat Bailey will serve as interim coach for the 2019 season.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Beavers coach Jonathan Smith said he is still uncertain if quarterback Jake Luton would be available to start tomorrow against Southern Utah in Corvallis.  Luton suffered a concussion in the season opening loss at Ohio State.  He did practice some yesterday.  Conor Blount would start if Luton is not cleared.  Blount completed 12-of-19 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns against the Buckeyes.

Eugene Holds On To Eliminate Hillsboro

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  The Hillsboro Hops season is over.  The Hops stranded runners at second and third in the ninth in a 3-2 home playoff loss to the Eugene Emeralds.  Hillsboro owned the best regular season record in the Northwest League, but was swept in the postseason.  Eugene advances to play the winner of the Everett and Spokane series in the finals.

Seahawks' Thomas Ends Holdout

(Renton, WA)  --  Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas is done holding out.  He reported to the Seahawks yesterday and took part in practice.  Seattle wants to further evaluate his conditioning before committing to playing him in Sunday's opener at Denver.  ESPN reports the Seahawks declined a second-round pick from the Cowboys for Thomas, who has made it known his desire to play for Dallas.

One-Handed Griffin To Start For Seattle

(Renton, WA)  --  One-handed rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin will start in Week One for the Seattle Seahawks.  Coach Pete Carrol confirmed Wednesday Griffin will start in place of the injured K.J. Wright when they visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday.  Griffin was born with amniotic band syndrome, which did not allow the fingers on his left hand to fully develop.  He'll be joined in Seattle's starting defense by his twin, second-year cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

It’s the first full week of school in session again, and week-2 of Fall prep sports where on the Volleyball hardwood last night the 2-time defending 5A Champion, now turned Class 6A, and ranked #1 Bend Lava Bears defeated McNary 3-1.  

In the first cross-town clash, Summit downed Mt. View by the same 3-1 score. Bend and Summit off to 2-and-0 starts in the newly classified ‘Mountain Valley Conference.’

Meantime, the defending 4A champs, the Sisters Outlaws blanked Newport on the road, 3-zip. And, in non-league 3A play, Burns shutout La Pine, 3-games to none.

Outdoors on the Girl’s soccer field, Madras snuck past Mt. View, 1-nil. Crook County throttled Dallas, 9-to-nothing, and Newport edged Sisters, 1-zip.

(Undated)  --  The Hillsboro Hops will play at Eugene tonight in the opener of the best-of-three Northwest League divisional playoffs.  Game two will be tomorrow night in Hillsboro.  If a game three is necessary, the Hops would host it Friday.  Hillsboro finished with a Northwest League best record of 51-and-25.  The Hops, who are a Diamondbacks farm club, had designated hitter Andy Yerzy and pitchers Josh Green and Matt Tabor selected to the league's post-season All-Star team.

Mariners Scuffle In Clubhouse

(Seattle, WA)  --  A scuffle took place in the Mariners' clubhouse prior to last night's game.  Second baseman Dee Gordon got into a heated altercation with shortstop Jean Segura over an error Gordon committed in Monday's 2-1 win over the Orioles.  Multiple players began pushing and shoving each other before the incident eventually spilled outside the clubhouse.

(Tallahassee, FL)  --  Willie Taggart bolted Oregon after only one season as the Ducks head coach to take the Florida State job.  Virginia Tech spoiled his Seminoles' debut, winning 24-3 in Tallahassee.  FSU committed five turnovers.  Virginia Tech players and fans mocked the Florida State Tomahawk Chop in the final seconds after humiliating the Seminoles.  Florida State fans were tweeting Fire Taggart en masse in the fourth quarter.

Trail Blazers Sign Three

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have signed former Oregon State guard Gary Payton the Second, Cam Oliver and Chinanu Onuaku to training camp contracts.  Payton appeared in 23 games last season with the Lakers on a two-way contract.  Onuaku was a 2016 second-round pick of the Rockets and has appeared in six NBA games.  Oliver played in the G-League last season after being undrafted out of Nevada.

Oregon Minor League Baseball

(Undated)  --  The Hillsboro Hops beat Salem-Keizer 5-4 at home in their Northwest League season finale.  Hillsboro has a Northwest League best record of 51-and-25.  Eugene lost 11-2 at Boise.  The Hops, who are a Diamondbacks farm club, will open a best-of-three divisional playoffs round tomorrow night in Eugene.  The series will move on Thursday to Hillsboro.

Timbers Will Be At Home Saturday

(Portland, OR) -- The Timbers will return home Saturday, meeting Colorado Springs at Providence Park.  Portland and Seattle are tied for fifth in the MLS West with 41 points.

M's Battle O's Again Tonight

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners and Orioles play the second of their three-game series tonight at Safeco Field.  Wade LeBlanc will start for Seattle, while Baltimore hands the ball to 15-game loser Alex Cobb.  The M's are five-and-a-half games behind the A's for the second AL wild card.
 

Mariners Nip Orioles Behind Ramirez

(Seattle, WA)  --  Erasmo Ramirez outdueled Josh Rogers as the Mariners edged by the Orioles 2-1 at Safeco Field.  Ryon Healy tied it at one with an RBI single in the fourth and Dee Gordon's sac-fly in the fifth put the M's in front for good.  Edwin Diaz closed it out for his 52nd save.

Seahawks Prepping For Broncos, Team Captains Named

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are prepping for a Week One matchup with the Broncos Sunday in Denver.  Coach Pete Carroll named quarterback Russell Wilson, linebacker Bobby Wagner, kicker Sebastian Janikowski and cornerback Neiko Thorpe team captains.
