Mariners' Concessions Proceeds To Go To Humane Society

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners plan to donate a portion of the proceeds from all concessions sales at Safeco Field during September to the Seattle-King County chapter of the Humane Society.  Team officials say the donation is in response to an incident involving Centerplate Catering CEO Desmond Hague, who was recorded on an elevator surveillance video, kicking and yanking the leash of a Doberman Pinscher puppy.  Centerplate handles concessions at Safeco Field, Providence Park in Portland, and hundreds of other venues.  Earlier this week, Centerplate announced that Hague is on indefinite probation and will lose his job unless he donates 100-thousand dollars to create a foundation for the protection of animals.

Seahawks Lose To Oakland In Preseason Finale

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Seahawks are focusing on their regular-season opener with Green Bay after losing to Oakland, 41-31.  Russell Wilson, in his only series of the game, put the Seahawks on the board first with a 25-yard scoring pass to Luke Wilson in the first quarter.  Seattle's DeShawn Shead intercepted a pass in the second quarter and ran it back 56 yards for a touchdown.  Next Thursday night, the Seahawks will host the Packers to open the 2014 regular season.

USC Football Player Admits Faking Story About Saving Nephew

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  USC officials say cornerback Josh Shaw admitted to the athletics department that he lied about how he suffered ankle injuries last weekend.  Shaw initially told his coaches he had jumped from a second-story building to save his nephew who was struggling in a pool.  The senior corner has been suspended indefinitely from the team for fabricating the story.

Texas Clubs Mariners, 12-4

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will try to regroup after falling to the Texas Rangers, 12-4.  Erasmo Ramirez got shelled for ten runs on nine hits before being lifted in the fourth inning.  Seattle's Mike Zunino and Kyle Seager each had a solo homer.  The Mariners will begin a three-game series at home tomorrow night against the Washington Nationals.

Seahawks, Oakland Clash Tonight In Final Preseason Game

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks will wrap up their preseason schedule tonight when they play the Raiders in Oakland.  Starters will see limited action as coaches will evaluate other players to determine who gets placed on the final 53-man roster.  Head coach Pete Carroll says there are a few positions where competition is tight.  Kickoff tonight is set for seven o'clock.

Carroll, Seahawks Fined, Must Forfeit Minicamp Days

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks will be required to pay fines and give up two minicamp practice days next season.  NFL.com and ESPN are reporting that head coach Pete Carroll has been fined 100-thousand dollars and the team has been fined 300-thousand for allowing excessive on-field contact between players during a practice on June 16th.  NFL.com says while the Seahawks will be required to forfeit two minicamp days, they'll be allowed one practice session on the final day of minicamp next year.  The Seahawks haven't commented on the reports.

Lake Oswego Football Players Suspended

(Lake Oswego, OR)  --  Officials at Lake Oswego High School say ten senior members of the football team will be suspended for four games to start the season.  Head coach Steve Coury says all but one of the players are listed as probable starters.  Coury hasn't revealed the reason for the players' suspensions.  The players will also be prohibited from attending school for three days.

Texas Blanks Mariners, 2-0

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners hope to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Texas when the two teams play again tonight at Safeco Field.  Roenis Elias pitched five solid innings, but the Mariners' offense was quiet as Seattle's three-game winning streak came to an end.  The Mariners still lead Detroit by a half-game in the race for the second AL Wild Card berth.  Seattle and Texas will play again tonight at 7:10.

Seahawks' Farwell May Need Surgery

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks linebacker and special-teams captain Heath Farwell may need surgery after suffering an "extensive" groin injury during Friday's game against Chicago.  Farwell was injured late in the third quarter when he defended a pass in the end zone.  Head coach Pete Carroll says cornerback Jeremy Lane suffered a less severe groin injury during the Bears game, and tight end Cooper Helfet is recovering well from injuries to his knee and shoulder.

Mariners Outscore Sox, 8-6

(Boston, MA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will be back home tonight after a successful road trip.  The M's completed a sweep of Boston yesterday, 8-6, and lead Detroit by a game in the race for the second AL Wild Card slot.  Kyle Seager and Brad Miller each had two RBI for Seattle.  The Mariners will host a three-game series with Texas, starting tonight.

Timbers Fall To Sounders, 4-2

(Portland, OR)  --  Playoff hopes are dimming for the Portland Timbers, after they lost a Cascadia Cup match at home to Seattle, 4-2.  Obafemi Martins scored two goals to help pace the first-place Sounders.  Fanendo Adi tallied two goals for the Timbers, who are in sixth place in the Western Conference.  Portland has another Cascadia match on Saturday in Vancouver, while Seattle will play at home that day against Colorado.
 

Seahawks To Host Bears Tonight

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks will play their third game of the preseason tonight when they host the Chicago Bears.  Starters are expected to see more playing time as the regular season draws closer.  Head coach Pete Carroll says Marshawn Lynch will likely get more carries tonight after being on the field for only two plays last week.  Kickoff at CenturyLink Field is set for seven p.m.
 

Sounders, Earthquakes Battle To 1-1 Tie

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Sounders are turning their attention to their Sunday match with the Portland Timbers, after fighting to a 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.  Chad Barrett scored in the 43rd minute with an assist from Obafemi Martins.  The Earthquakes tallied the equalizer in the 65th minute, and the score remained that way to the end.  The Sounders and Timbers will play a Cascadia Cup match at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Providence Park in Portland.

Phillies Trip Mariners, 4-3

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are now a game back of Detroit in the race for the second AL Wild Card berth, after dropping a 4-3 decision to Philadelphia.  Starting pitcher James Paxton got roughed up for four runs on seven hits over four innings.  Kendrys Morales had a solo home run in the second inning.  The Mariners have the day off, and will play a three-game series at Boston starting tomorrow.

Blazers Bid To Host NBA All-Star Game

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are hoping to host an NBA All-Star Game for the first time in franchise history.  The team has submitted a bid to host either the 2017 or the 2018 contest at the Moda Center.  Blazers president Chris McGowan says hosting the All-Star Game would be "the biggest event, from a sports perspective, hosted in Oregon's history."  McGowan says he hasn't been told when the NBA will make a decision.

Seahawks To Play First Home Preseason Game Tonight

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks will play their first home preseason game of the year tonight, when they host the San Diego Chargers. Seattle is hoping to get into the win column after dropping a 21-16 decision to Denver in their first exhibition game last week.  Seahawks coaches say they hope to see better performances tonight from the offensive line and the second-team defense.  Kickoff at CenturyLink Field is set for seven o'clock.

Seahawks: Allegations Against Lynch 'Bogus'

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are defending their star running back, saying allegations against Marshawn Lynch are "bogus."  Lynch is under investigation by the Bellevue Police Department after a woman accused him Sunday of being involved in an incident at a Bellevue apartment complex.  Lynch is accused of committing assault and causing property damage.  The Seahawks say while they respect the investigative process, they feel that after speaking with Lynch, they're convinced the allegations against him are "bogus."  There have been no arrests in the case.

Surging Mariners Top Toronto, 6-3

(Seattle, WA)  --  The winning streak for Seattle is three games after the Mariners defeated Toronto, 6-3, assuring themselves of a series win.  Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales each had a solo homer to help put the Mariners in a tie with Detroit for the final AL playoff berth.  Chris Young earned his eleventh win of the season, giving up only one run on two hits over six innings.  The final game of the three-game series between the Mariners and Blue Jays will be played tonight.

Mariners Take Three Of Four From Chisox

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners will start a three-game series with Toronto tonight after taking three of four from the Chicago White Sox.  Austin Jackson, who was recently acquired from Detroit, batted in four runs for Seattle to help the M's earn a 4-2 win yesterday over the Sox.  It was the Mariners' eighth win in their last 12 games.  Seattle and Toronto will get started at Safeco Field tonight at 7:10.

Bend North Little Leaguers advance

The Bend North 12 year old Little League All-Star team will play for the Northwest Regional Championship after defeating Alaska yesterday in the Semis on national TV, 7-6.
With the win, North meets Lynwood, Washington tomorrow at 1pm on ESPN-TV with the winner advancing to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the site of the THE Little League World Series.
The Washington All-Stars beat Bend one week ago, 10-2, in the opening game of pool play.
Bend North becomes the 2nd central Oregon Little League team to play for a Regional Title since Bend South came one game short in 2011.
Jay Reese will have a complete recap and review with interviews Monday at 6pm on the summer journey Bend North has had since winning the Distrcit-5 Championship on July 4th, and the State Title 2 weeks ago.

Bend Elks

The Bend Elks defeated the Corvallis Knights 6-3 last night at Goss Stadium in Corvallis in West Coast Collegiate League baseball action.
The Elks take 2 of the three games from South Division leading Knights.
The Knights got on the board first with 2 runs in the 4th, but the Elks fought back and scored 4 in the top of the 5th taking the lead and never looking back.
Bend starting pitcher, and Summit High grad Kevin Hamman threw 4 and 2/3rd's strong innings giving up one earned run while striking out 4.
Bend returns home for a final 3-game series starting tonight at 6;35 at Vince Genna Stadium against the Klamath Falls Game.
The Elks maintain a 1 game led over Wenatchee for the wildcard playoff spot with the Playoffs beginning Tuesday.
 

MLS All-Stars Defeat Bayern Munich, 2-1

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers' Diego Valeri is credited with the assist that led to the game-winning goal in the MLS All-Star Game.  The All-Stars defeated Bayern Munich last night, 2-1, after Landon Donovan scored off Valeri's assist in the 70th minute.  After Bayern Munich scored in the eighth minute, Bradley Wright-Phillips tied the match in the 51st minute of an assist by Erick Torres and Bobby Boswell.  The contest was played before nearly 22-thousand fans at Portland's Providence Park.

Seahawks Open 2014 Preseason In Denver Tonight

(Denver, CO)  --  It won't exactly be a rematch of Super Bowl 48, but the Seahawks and Broncos will see their first preseason action tonight in Denver.  Seattle head coach Pete Carroll says his younger players will be used a lot in tonight's game.  Veteran running back Marshawn Lynch may not see many snaps, as he entered training camp a week late.  Kickoff at Sports Authority Field in Denver is set for 6 p.m.

Bend North Little Leaguers advance

Bend North defeated Montana 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the final game of pool play at Little League Western Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, California.

Bend North, now 3 and 1,  will play in the semi-finals Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Jay Reese, with KBND Sports says they will most likely face Alaska who Bend beat Monday 10-2 in round robin play.

Bend North Little League semi play will be televised on ESPN-2 tomorrow afternoon at 2.
 

Mariners Top Braves, 4-2

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are looking to sweep their two-game series with Atlanta today after defeating the Braves, 4-2.  Felix Hernandez picked up his 12th victory of the season last night, allowing one run on four hits and striking out eight over eight innings.  All the Mariners' runs were scored in the fourth inning, giving Hernandez all the cushion he needed.  The two teams will play again at Safeco Field this afternoon at 12:40.

Carroll: Lynch Lagging In Football Conditioning

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he and his staff are being patient with star running back Marshawn Lynch, who missed the first week of training camp.  Carroll says Beast Mode is lagging behind his teammates when it comes to the conditioning necessary to be competitive on a football field.  Lynch saw little activity during minicamp and skipped off-season Organized Team Activities, and Carroll says all that plus the training camp holdout have put Lynch in a position of having to catch up.  The defending Super Bowl champs are preparing for their first preseason game, which takes place Thursday in Denver. 

Lynch Ends Holdout

(Renton, WA)  --  Beast Mode is back.  Running back Marshawn Lynch has joined the Seahawks in training camp after a week-long holdout.  The "Seattle Times" reports the team has agreed to guarantee one-point-five-million dollars to Lynch for this season, money that was previously reserved for bonuses or incentives.  The Seahawks may also refrain from making Lynch pay the nearly half-million dollars in fines he accrued during the holdout.

Mariners Clinch Series Win Over Cleveland

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Seattle Mariners will continue their road trip this afternoon in Baltimore, after earning a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians.  Mike Zunino's two-run blast in the eighth inning of yesterday's game assured the M's of a series win.  Dustin Ackley had a two-run homer of his own in the third.  The Mariners and Orioles will get started this afternoon at 4:05.
