(Seattle, WA)  --  The Sounders are looking to snap a two-game slide when they visit Real Salt Lake on Saturday.  Seattle is 11th in the Western Conference with eight points.  Real Salt Lake sits at ninth in the West with 16 points.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon will conclude its baseball season with baseball with a three-game series beginning Thursday versus Arizona in Eugene.  The Ducks are 25-and-27 and 11-and-16 in conference.  Elsewhere, Portland ended its regular season with a 1-0 loss at UC Santa Barbara.  The Pilots concluded with a 23-and-30 overall record.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners won the game but may have lost Mitch Haniger in the process.  Haniger was hit by a pitch on the wrist in the fourth inning.  He left the game and is officially listed as day-to-day.  Post-game X-rays were negative.  Seattle leads baseball with 29 batters hit by pitches.  The team also placed second baseman Dee Gordon on the DL with a fractured toe.  Seattle recalled first baseman Daniel Vogelbach from Triple-A Tacoma to take Gordon's roster spot.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Guillermo Heredia doubled home Jean Segura with the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to give the Mariners a 3-2 triumph over the Athletics in Oakland.  Mike Zunino belted a two-run homer in the seventh to tie the score.  Nick Vincent picked up the victory in relief as Seattle extended its winning streak to four games.  The M's have won 12 of their last 16 games against the A's.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks have a day off as OTA's roll on around the league.  Organized team activities kicked off on Monday in Renton and a second session was held yesterday.  They will be back at it tomorrow and also have workouts on the 29th, and 30th and five more in June.  Mandatory minicamp is June 12th through the 14th.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners continue their three-game set with the A's in Oakland tonight.  At 28-and-19, the M's are two games behind Houston for first in the AL West.  Marco Gonzales will take the ball for the Mariners opposite Oakland's Daniel Gossett.  First pitch is slated for 7:05.

Locally on the softball diamond, there are only two teams left standing heading to the OSAA 1st round playoffs tomorrow. Ridgeview hosts La Salle and the Cowgirls of Crook County travel to face La Grande.

The Summit girl’s track team with head coach Dave Turnbull won it’s record 12th consecutive OSAA 5A State Championship Saturday in Eugene at Hayward Field.  Turnbull has now won the third most State Titles as any coach in Oregon history.

The Bend girls finished second, and Mt. View made the team podium with a 4th place finish. Summit’s boys finished third overall, and Crook County is the State Runnerup in the 4A division.

And, the Summit boy’s claimed their 5th straight Team Tennis Title over the weekend in Portland led by senior Logan Hausler’s Individual championship beating the top seed from Ashland, Rox Rogers in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, and 6-3. Corvallis won the Girl’s Title with Summit finishing runnerup.

Just 5 local prep baseball teams remain alive heading to the State playoffs this week beginning on Wednesday.

Ridgeview bowed out losing in the Play-In round last week to La Salle, 7-1, but Summit punched their ticket with a 1-run win over Putnam, 8-7. The Storm travel to play top-ranked Thurston on Wednesday while IMC Champion Bend hosts Wilsonville.

Madras travels to face Astoria, and Crook County blanked Ontario 3-zip to advance and will challenge 2nd ranked North Marion on the road..

La Pine lost its league playoff to Pleasant Hill Friday, 4-3, but the #4 seeded Hawks will host Vale Wednesday at 430 in 1st round play of the 3A bracket.

(Portland, OR)  --  Samuel Armenteros scored in the 81st-minute to snap a one-all tie and lift the Timbers past LAFC 2-1 on Saturday at Providence Park.  Cristhian Paredes also tallied for Portland, which has now won five-straight matches.  The Timbers are third in the Western Conference with 17 points, seven behind first place Sporting Kansas City.  They will look to make it six in-a-row when they visit the Colorado Rapids this weekend.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Jean Segura hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning to lift the Mariners past the Tigers 3-2 in Seattle.  Segura also scored on Mitch Haniger's two-run homer that tied the game in the ninth.  Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc and six relievers held Detroit scoreless over the final 10 innings with Nick Vincent picking up the win.  Seattle has won three straight.

(Undated)  --  In local college baseball action over the weekend, Oregon State took two-of-three from USC in Los Angeles.  The Beavers picked up wins on Friday and Saturday but lost the finale, 8-0,  yesterday.  Number-two Oregon State is now 42-9-and-1.  The Beavers will host UCLA for three games to wrap up the regular season starting on Thursday.  Oregon was swept in three games at UCLA over the weekend.  The Ducks fell to 25-and-27 and host Arizona for three to close out the season.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Miranda Elish pitched a shut out as top-seeded Oregon dumped Albany 4-0 in the Eugene Regional Opener at Jane Sanders Stadium.  Elish struck out 14 batters, while pitching all seven innings to boost her personal record to 21-and-1.  The Ducks will take on second-seeded Drake today at 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

(New York, NY)  --  Ex-Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is hardly shocked that former teammate Robinson Cano tested positive for a banned substance.  He tells ESPN Radio he wasn't surprised to hear about Cano suspension.  Cano was penalized 80 games this week for violating the MLB's drug prevention and treatment program.  The two played alongside each other for five seasons in New York.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners have brought up relief pitcher Ryan Cook from Triple-A Tacoma.  The 30-year-old had not pitched in the majors since 2015 due to a slew of injuries.  Cook struck out one batter over an inning-and-a-third of scoreless ball last night against the Tigers.

(Seattle, WA)   --  The Mariners are seeking a win as they continue their series with the Tigers tonight Safeco Field.  Felix Hernandez is slated to start for Seattle, while Detroit hands the ball to Michael Fulmer.  The M's are third in the AL West at 24-and-19, three games behind the first-place Astros.
 

The top-ranked Oregon softball team takes its first step toward the NCAA Division-I national Title as the Lady Ducks play host to the West Regionals.

Oregon, 47-and-7 overall, plays  the University of Albany at 530 in Eugene. The game is broadcast online at ESPN-3. U of O faces either Drake or BYU in round-2 tomorrow. Meantime, Oregon State, 28-and-26,  faces Wisconsin tomorrow in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Southern Oregon University of Ashland punched their ticket to the NAIA World Series in Florida next week making the trip two years in a row. SOU is the #8 rated team in the country with a 47-and-13 record.

The Lady Raiders are the 6-seed in the 10-team double-elimination Tournament. SOU faces #3 Marian of Indiana in its opening game Monday night.

Two local teams will try to play their way in to the OSAA prep Baseball Championship playoff bracket in the 4A division when Sisters hosts Newport, and Madras entertains Mazama. Both games start at 430 today and the winners advance to next week’s opening playoff round on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Summit greets Putnam, and Ridgeview travels to La Salle in the 5A Play-in round, and La Pine hosts Pleasant Hill in a League playoff seeding game.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The 2018 NBA Draft Combine is underway and number of scouts will be in attendance to see the top prospects showcase their talent.  The combine will consist of interviews, player measurements, athletic drills and scrimmages.  The event will feature 69 potential draftees and it is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.  Top prospects DeAndre Ayton, Luka Doncic and Robert Williams will not be in attendance.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Kyle Seager homered in the bottom half of the ninth to score the Mariners' lone run as they were quieted by the Rangers 5-1 in Seattle.  Christian Bergman allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings in his first start of the season for the M's.  James Pazos took the loss as the teams split the two-game series.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks have agreed to terms with first round draft pick Rashaad Penny.  Seattle selected the San Diego State tailback with the 27th overall pick in this year's draft.  The Seahawks have now signed six of their nine draft picks.  Seattle also inked free-agent wide receiver Keenan Reynolds and free-agent linebacker Dadi Nicolas.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  Reds first baseman Joey Votto is looking to make amends with Mariners pitcher and fellow Canadian James Paxton after some negative remarks.  When Votto was asked about Paxton's no-hitter against the Blue Jays in Toronto on a Yahoo Sports podcast, he made it clear that it meant nothing to him.  The 34-year-old later apologized for belittling Paxton's accomplishment and admitted that his remarks were fueled by envy.

The Bend Girls captured the 5A OSAA State Golf Championship yesterday in Corvallis by 12-shots better than Summit. It’s the first team title since 2008. Summit’s Olivia Loberg won Medalist honors with a 6-shot win. Bend’s Kaylie Hayes finished 6th overall.

And, Marist ended Summit’s run of 3-straight Titles as the Spartans won the Boys trophy. Summit finished 2nd place, 20-shots back. The State Tennis and Track & Field Championships begin tomorrow.

La Pine, Champions of the Mountain Valley League, won a warmup game for the Playoffs yesterday beating Madras, 9-8. The Hawks are scheduled to host a League Playoff game Friday.

Yesterday, North Lake’s season came to an end as Riddle blanked the Cowboys, 3-zip in a League playoff game.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State pitcher Luke Heimlich has been named the national pitcher of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.  The senior ace struck out 14 to help the Beavers take down then-second-ranked Stanford 6-2 in Corvallis.  Heimlich, who leads the nation with a 12-and-1 record, also earned Pac-12 pitcher of the week honors.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is being suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the league's drug policy.  Cano tested positive for Furosemide, which is a diuretic.  The eight-time All-Star says he was given the substance by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment and did not realize it was a banned substance.  The 35-year-old will forfeit around 11-million-dollars in salary during the suspension.  He's hitting .287 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 39 games this season.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers are set to take on LAFC on Saturday at Providence Park.  After taking down the Sounders 1-0 over the weekend, Portland enters the contest on a four-game winning streak.  The Timbers currently trail LA by six points in the Western Conference standings with 14.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz was forced to exit last night's 8-7 win over the Rangers after being hit by a pair of pitches.  Cruz limped to the dugout after a changeup from Texas pitcher Brandon Mann connected on his right foot in the fourth inning.  Although X-rays were negative, the 37-year-old will be re-evaluated today.

The Prep baseball and softball ‘regular’ season came to a close at all levels yesterday, locally, and in the IMC, Bend which already claimed the league crown doubled up the Cougars beating Mt. View, 10-5. Bend heads to the playoffs ranked 8th in the state with an 18-and-6 overall mark.

And, Redmond shoutout Ridgeview, 7-to-nothing, but Ridgeview nails down the 3rd and final playoff spot regardless of the loss yesterday. The Ravens will travel for a Play-In game later this week, and Summit as the #2 seed will host a game. Bend awaits the 16-team seeded Playoff bracket.

One game today sees  The Hawks of La Pine play a non-league warmup game at Madras today at 430 in Jefferson County. Both teams have playoff dates coming up.

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Dee Gordon scored the lone run on a throwing error in the eighth inning as the Mariners blanked the Twins 1-0 at Target Field.  The teams were making up a postponed game from April 8th.  Wade LeBlanc allowed just three hits over six scoreless frames for the M's, but did not factor in the decision.  James Pazos picked up the win and Edwin Diaz posted his 14th save.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon basketball is scoring another recruiting win.  Center Francis Okoro picked the Ducks over Illinois and Purdue.  It's possible Okoro could reclassify and join the 2018 class rather than stay in 2019.

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Mariners had a familiar face in the lineup Monday night in the absence of Robinson Cano.  Cano was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a fracture in his right hand.  Veteran infielder Gordon Beckham joined the team for the game at Minnesota.  Beckham was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.  He was batting .300 for the season and .315 with three homers and 10 RBI in his past 14 games at Tacoma.

(Seattle, WA)   --  The Mariners return home to open up a two-game set with the Rangers at Safeco Field.  Mike Leake will take the ball for the M's.  Texas will counter with Mike Minor.  First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.  The M's are third in the AL West at 23-and-17, one-and-a-half games behind the Astros and Angels whop are tied for first.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are adding one of the tryout players from rookie mini-camp.  They signed tight end Clayton Wilson to the 90-man offseason roster.  Wilson is the sixth player who was a tryout player to sign with the Seahawks.  He fills the roster spot created on Friday when the Seahawks waived quarterback Stephen Morris.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks continue moving through the offseason.  After wrapping up rookie mini-camp, voluntary OTA's are next on the agenda.  They open up this coming Monday.  Mandatory minicamp is June 12th-through-14th.

On the prep diamond…the IMC wraps up regular season play today when Mt. View hosts Bend, and Ridgeview entertains crosstown rival, Redmond.

The Lava Bears have already clinched the League crown rated 8th in the State, and are the #1 seed for the Playoffs. Summit is the 2-seed and will have a home date in the Play-In round, and Ridgeview will be the third seed on the road.

The Play-In round is set in the 4A division and coming up Thursday, Sisters will hosts Newport, Madras greets Mazama, and Crook County travels to Ontario. The winners advance next week to the OSAA State championship playoff bracket.

La Pine has already clinched the 3A Mountain Valley League pennant, and will await a playoff game Friday. The Hawks will play a non-league warmup game at Madras tomorrow. La Pine split a non-league twinbill Friday at Sisters.

Meantime…on the Girl’s side of things with Softball, Ridgeview, Mt. View, and Bend are the top-3 seeds from the IMC headed to the Playoffs. Crook County, Madras, and La Pine are the only other local teams headed to the post season this week.

(Portland, OR)  --  Sebastian Blanco scored a late goal to give the Timbers a 1-0 win over the Sounders in Portland.  Blanco found the back of the net in the 86th minute to push Portland ahead in the 100th match between the two rival squads.  The Timbers will return to action on Saturday when they host LAFC.  Portland has 14 points on the season, which is good for fourth place in the Western Conference.
 

(Undated)  --  In local college baseball action, Oregon State fell to Stanford 9-6 in Corvallis.  The Beavers bested the Cardinal 2-1 in the three-game series to improve to 38-8-and-1.  Oregon State will return to the field tonight when it welcomes San Diego.  Oregon also came away with a win yesterday by knocking off Utah 4-3 and Portland clipped San Diego 4-3.  The Pilots will go on the road to face Washington tomorrow, while the Ducks visit UCLA on Friday.  Oregon is 25-and-24 and Portland is 20-and-28.

(Detroit, MI)  --  Kyle Seager homered in a losing effort as the Mariners were clipped by the Tigers 5-4 in Detroit. Seattle suffered more than a loss with second baseman Robinson Cano leaving in the third inning with a right hand fracture after being hit by a Blaine Hardy pitch.  James Paxton, who no-hit Toronto in his previous M's start, yielded six hits and three runs over six innings and Juan Nicasio took the loss.
 

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Mariners are set to take on the Twins tonight at Target Field.  Seattle plans to open up with Wade LeBlanc, while Minnesota counters with Jake Odorizzi.  The M's are third in the AL West at 22-and-17, two-and-a-half games behind the first-place Astros.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Former Seahawks head coach Chuck Knox is dead at the age of 86 after suffering from dementia.  Knox's granddaughter confirmed the death in a tweet yesterday.  The three-time NFL Coach of the Year led Seattle to its first-ever playoff berth in 1983.  His overall head coaching record is 186-147-and-1.
 

The Summit girls, the 11-time defending state 5a Champions, captured their 13th-straight IMC title yesterday at the District Finals at Redmond High School. Bend finished second.

And, on the boy’s side of the Finals, it was Summit and Bend finishing first and second overall. It’s the 5th straight District Title for the Storm.

The top individual placers qualify for the class 5A State Championships Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Meantime, Sister’s girls lead after day-1 of the Sky-Em Track finals by
8-points over Elmira while the Outlaw boys are in third place just one point behind second-place Sweet Home. The Finals wrap up today.
 

On the prep diamond yesterday, Crook County beat Madras, 7-3 in Tri-Valley play. Madras hosts Corbett tomorrow to end the regular season and inspite of the loss yesterday, the Buffs advance to the Playoffs as the #2 seed, and Crook County nails down the final playoff spot as the third seed.

In the IMC, Redmond pounded Mt. View, 18-to-8 yesterday in the conclusion of a game that was suspended on Tuesday because of weather.

The win keeps the Panthers playoff hopes alive. The conference’s top three teams advance to post-seaon play. Mountain View entertains Ridgeview today, then closes the league schedule Monday at home against current IMC leader Bend.
 Redmond is at home Monday hosting Ridgeview to close out league play.

Today in non-league play, a couple of playoff bound teams battle in interleague play in Sisters when the Outlaws host LaPine starting at 3 O’clock.

La Pine will play an inter-league, non-league, twinbill tomorrow afternoon at Sisters taking on the Outlaws at 3pm. Sisters will head to State as the #2 seed from the Sky-Em League sporting a 16-and-8 mark.

(Undated)  --  In other local college baseball action, the Oregon Ducks are playing host to Utah in a three-game series beginning tonight.  The Ducks are 22-and-24 overall and 8-and-13 in the Pac-12.  The Portland Pilots will also return to action tonight when they welcome the San Diego Toreros.  The Pilots are 9-and-12 in conference play and 19-and-26 overall.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is set to welcome Stanford in a three-game series beginning tonight in Corvallis.  Stanford is ranked second nationally with a 38-and-6 record.  Oregon State is third with a 36-7-and-1 record.  Oregon State has a four-game winning streak against Stanford and has won nine of the last 10 matchups.
 

(Detroit, MI)  --  Mariners manager Scott Servais is expected to miss the next two games.  Servais will instead head to Ole Miss to see his daughter receive her master's degree.  Manny Acta will serve as acting manager in his absence.

(Detroit, MI)  --  The Mariners are set to begin a three-game series with the Tigers tonight in Detroit.  Seattle will open up with Marco Gonzales on the mound, while Detroit counters with Matthew Boyd.  The M's are third in the AL West at 21-and-15, a game-and-a-half behind the first place Astros.

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Seattle Storm are visiting the Phoenix Mercury this Saturday in their final preseason exhibition.  Seattle clipped Phoenix 73-69 when the two teams met earlier this week.  The Storm will host the Mercury in their regular season opener on May 20th.

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  Mariners reliever Juan Nicasio gave up five straight hits to start a Blue Jays' four-run eighth inning in a 5-2 loss at Toronto.  Jean Segura had three Seattle hits, including an RBI double in the first.  Mitch Haniger also had a RBI double, walked three times and stole a base in the loss.  The series wraps up today with Mike Leake starting for the Mariners.
 

On the prep scoreboard, Summit crushed Ridgeview, 15-to-6. The Storm entertain Redmond today while #8 Bend hosts the Ravens.

On the 4-A scoreboard, Sisters beat Sweet Home on the road, 6-4 yesterday to win the season-series from the Huskies and will host a Play-In game next week.

Gladstone beat Crook County, 9-4. The Cowboys host Madras tomorrow in Prineville.

And, from the 3-A ranks, 2nd ranked La Pine wraps up regular season play in the Mountain Valley today when the Hawks travel to Harrisburg seeking a win to clinch the League crown outright.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon State banged out 19 hits and scored eight runs in the sixth to defeat Oregon 10-0 in Eugene.  Tyler Malone had a pair of ground-rule doubles in the sixth when the Beavers sent 13 men to the plate.  The Ducks managed just three hits off Beavers pitchers Christian Chamberlain, Brandon Eisert and Nathan Burns.  The Beavers improved to 36-7-and-1, going 5-and-0 against the Ducks.  Oregon dropped to 22-and-24.

Portland set season-highs in hits and runs in beating Seattle 13-2 in Bellevue, Washington.  The Pilots finished with 18 hits to up their record to 18-and-26.  The two teams will conclude their season series today after splitting the first two games.

(Toronto, Ontario)  --  James Paxton threw a no-hitter as the Mariners beat the Blue Jays 5-0 in Toronto.  Paxton, who struck out 16 A's in his previous start, fanned seven and walked three.  It is the sixth no-hitter in Mariners' history.  The 29-year-old lefty is a Canadian native, who the Blue Jays drafted in 2009, but failed to sign him.  Mike Zunino hit a two-run homer.

From the 3-A division, 2nd ranked La Pine thrashed Creswell, 13-3 yesterday, and closes out Mountain Valley play at Harrisburg tomorrow where a win there clinches the League Title outright.

In Softball…#7 Ridgeview already won the IMC Title and Bend, Redmond and Mt. View all tied at 6-and-7 in League play are battling for the remaining 2 playoff spots. In the 4-A, Crook County is in the Playoffs, and Madras visits Corbett today needing a win to nail down 3rd place and the final play-in opening. And the La Pine girls still have a shot at the playoffs.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Redshirt sophomore forward M.J. Cage announced he is transferring from Oregon.  The 6-foot-10 four-star recruit saw scant time on the court in his two years with the Ducks.  Cage appeared in 11 games last season, averaging 1.7 points.  With Cage leaving, the Ducks have four available scholarships for the 2018-19 season.

(San Jose, CA)  --  Diego Valeri scored in the 88th-minute to break a scoreless tie and lift the Timbers past the Earthquakes 1-0 on Saturday in San Jose.  The win was Portland's third-straight after going winless over the first five games of the season.  With 11 points the Timbers are now tied for sixth in the Western Conference with Houston.  They return home to host the Seattle Sounders on Sunday.
 

(Undated)  --  In local college baseball action, Oregon State's game with Washington State ended in a 7-7 tie after a lightning strike and the Beavers' travel curfew forced the game to be called in the 10th inning.  Kevin Abel stuck out 11 over five-and-two-thirds for OSU which is now 35-7-and-1 overall and 14-6-and-1 in conference.  They had won the first two in the series at Wazzu.

Taylor Travess drove in three runs as Oregon clobbered UC Irvine 10-5 in the finale of their three-game set.  The Ducks lost the first two in the series and are now 22-and-23 and 8-and-13.  Oregon hosts the Beavers for a non-conference Civil War Series showdown tomorrow in Eugene.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks don't expect one of their top defensive players to show up for workouts any time soon.  Head coach Pete Carroll says he is unsure when All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas will join the team.  Thomas has been absent from the voluntary portion of the Seahawks' offseason program.  He is expected to sit out at least until mandatory minicamp in June.  Thomas is seeking a new contract as he enters the final year of the four-year, 40-million-dollar extension he signed in 2014.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Shohei Ohtani put together a solid outing to help lead the Angels past the Mariners 8-2 in Seattle.  Ohtani struck out six over six innings of two-run ball to earn the win.  Felix Hernandez surrendered five runs over five-and-two-thirds frames to take the loss as the M's.  Ryon Healy's two-run shot was all the offense Seattle would get.  The Mariners dropped two-of-three in the set.

Turning to prep baseball, Sisters hosts Junction City this afternoon in a showdown doubleheader in the Sky-Em Conference. The Outlaws, who have claimed 9-straight wins, can take over first-place with a sweep of the Tigers. First pitch is set for 3 today.

Elsewhere in 4-A Ball, in the Tri-Valley, 2nd-place Madras travels to league-leading Gladstone, and Crook County hosts Molalla.

From the 3-A ranks, La Pine hammered Glide in just 5-innings as the Hawks take a 10-zip win to remain in first-place by one game, and 16-and-12 overall, ranked 2nd in the state.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki will not play again this season and will instead begin transitioning to a front office role with the club.  The team announced on Thursday that he will serve as a special assistant to the chairman.  Suzuki does not plan to retire, but will not join Seattle's active roster for the rest of the season.

(San Jose, CA)  --  The Timbers are looking for their third win in-a-row when they head to San Jose to face the Earthquakes on Saturday.  Portland is 10th in the Western Conference with eight points on the season.  San Jose is just behind Portland in 11th place with five points.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners welcome the Angels to town tonight for the start of a three-game series.  Mike Leake will start for Seattle and Garrett Richards for Los Angeles.  Angels first baseman Albert Pujols is one hit from three-thousand for his career.  The M's are 18-and-12, just a half-game behind the Angels and Astros in the AL West.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Robinson Cano had a pair of run-scoring singles as the Mariners beat the A's 4-1 at Safeco Field.  Dee Gordon scampered home on both hits from Cano and Nelson Cruz added a two-run homer to put Seattle ahead 4-0 in the third.  Chasen Bradford picked up the win with two-and-a-third innings of one-run relief.  The M's have won four-of-five.

(Seattle,WA)  --  The Sounders look to grab a win against the Columbus Crew tomorrow at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle is last in the Western Conference with four points, tied with Toronto FC for the worst record in Major League Soccer at 1-4-and-1.  Columbus is fifth in the East with 14 points.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are holding on to safety Earl Thomas and are not looking for a trade partner.  Seahawks GM John Schneider tells 950 KJR they're not looking for a trade.  The six-time Pro-Bowl safety has been the subject of numerous trade rumors since the end of last season.  Thomas is entering the final year of his contract.

Outdoors with prep baseball, the 3rd ranked La Pine Hawks host Glide today in their final home game off the regular season before the playoffs begin looking to keep a 1-game lead over Pleasant Hill for the Mountain Valley League lead.

La Pine is 15-and-2 overall and lost only its second game of the year, and its first league defeat falling at Pleasant Hill in a 10-9 decision. First pitch today in La Pine is at 430.

In the 5-A IMC, Bend thumped Mt. View again yesterday as the Lava Bears cruised past the Cougars, 16-to-3. In back-to-back games this week, Bend has outscored Mt. View, 39-to-3, and find themselves virtually tied with Summit for the Conference lead. The Bears and Cougs meet again tomorrow at Bend.

And, Redmond got even with Ridgeview with the Panthers shutting out the Ravens, 1-zip yesterday. Final game of the 3-game weekly series is tomorrow at 4330 on the Ravens diamond.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon women's basketball team is losing a key rotational player in forward Mallory McGwire.  The sophomore forward is transferring to Boise St.  McGwire averaged just under five points per game last season and helped the Ducks reach the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.  She becomes the fourth player to depart from Oregon since the season ended.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are bringing back cornerback Byron Maxwell for the upcoming season.  Maxwell agreed to a one-year deal with Seattle worth up to three million dollars.  The 30-year-old defensive back is expected to start opposite Shaquill Griffin in the Seahawks secondary.  Maxwell was a member of the Seattle squad that won Super Bowl 48 over the Denver Broncos.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Felix Hernandez struck out seven over six innings as the Mariners doubled up the Athletics 6-3 at Safeco Field.  Hernandez got the win and Edwin Diaz struck out two in the final inning to pick up the save.  Dee Gordon went 5-for-5 at the plate at Nelson Cruz added a three-run homer in the fifth to put Seattle ahead 4-1.  Jean Segura drove in two batters for the Mariners, who have won three in-a-row.

The Sisters Outlaws baseball team hopes to keep ahold of 2nd place in the Sky-Em League hosting Cottage Grove this afternoon with just 4 more league games remaining after today. The Outlaws split a double-dip with the Lions in Cottage Grove just two weeks ago. First pitch is set for 430.

And, in the 3-A division, 2nd ranked La Pine puts its 7-game win streak on the line today on the road at Pleasant Hill. La Pine leads the 12th ranked Hill and the Mountain Valley League by 2-games with 4 to play in the regular season.
 

(San Jose, CA)  --  The Timbers are headed to San Jose to take on the Earthquakes on Saturday.  Portland shut out New York City FC 3-0 in its last game to pick up its second straight MLS win.  San Jose is currently one point ahead of Seattle for last place in the Western Conference with five overall.  The Timbers are 2-3-and-2 so far this season.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Former Wake Forest wide receiver Tabari Hines is coming to Oregon as a graduate transfer.  Hines selected the Ducks over USC and Texas.  The Florence, South Carolina native caught 53 passes for 683 yards and hauled in seven touchdowns last season with the Demon Deacons.

(Undated)  --  In college baseball action, Oregon will battle in-state rival Oregon State tonight in Eugene.  The Ducks are 21-and-20 and the Beavers are 32-and-7.  Portland will head to Bellevue to face Seattle a week from today.  The Pilots are currently 17-and-26 on the season.
