Bengals Win AFC Championship, Advance To Super Bowl 56

(Kansas City, MO) -- The Cincinnati Bengals are going to Super Bowl 56. The Bengals defeated the Chiefs 27-24 in overtime to win the AFC Championship in Kansas City. Evan McPherson kicked a 31-yard field goal for the win as Cincinnati rallied from an 18-point deficit to punch their ticket to Inglewood. Joe Burrow threw for two touchdowns and a pick in the win. Patrick Mahomes threw for three touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss for the Chiefs, who led 21-3 at one point. Kansas City started with the ball in overtime before Mahomes threw an interception.

Rams Advance To Super Bowl 56

(Inglewood, CA) -- The Los Angeles Rams are heading to Super Bowl 56 after knocking off the rival 49ers 20-17 in the NFC Championship Game. Matt Gay booted a go-ahead 30-yard field goal with 1:46 to play, and Jimmy Garoppolo was picked off on the ensuing possession to seal the victory. The Rams advance to their second Super Bowl in the last four years. They will face the Cincinnati Bengals in the big game on February 13th in Inglewood, marking the second-straight year a team will play on its home turf.

Nadal Wins Australian Open, Breaks Grand Slam Record

(Australia) -- Rafael Nadal is making more history. The tennis legend defeated Daniil Medvedev in an epic five-set match to win the Australian Open. The win is the 21st grand slam title for Nadal, breaking a tie with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer for the most all-time. On the women's side, top-ranked Ashleigh Barty defeated American Danielle Collins to claim her first Australian Open title.

Warriors Top T'wolves

(San Francisco, CA) -- The Warriors used a dominant third quarter to cruise past the Timberwolves 124-115 in San Francisco. Golden State outscored Minnesota by 18 in the third to pull away. Steph Curry dropped in 29 points and Klay Thompson tallied 23 as the Warriors won their fourth straight. Andrew Wiggins added 19 points against his former team on the same day he was named an All-Star starter. Karl-Anthony Towns racked up 31 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolves, who had won their previous two. Anthony Edwards donated 27 points in the setback.

Report: Blazers' Nassir Little Likely Out For The Year

(Portland, OR) -- One of the Trail Blazers' best young players is on the mend. ESPN is reporting that Portland forward Nassir Little is likely out for the season with a left shoulder labral tear. The 21-year-old suffered the injury in the Blazers' loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night. Little was averaging 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his third year out of North Carolina. There was no timetable set for his return.

NFC, AFC Championships Set For Sunday

(Undated) -- It's conference championship weekend in the NFL. The Bengals and Chiefs will square off on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game in Kansas City. The Chiefs are hosting the title game for the fourth straight year and are seeking a third straight trip to the Super Bowl. Out west, the rival 49ers and Rams will meet in the NFC Championship Game in Inglewood. Sunday's winners will meet in the Super Bowl on February 13th in Inglewood.

#8 UCLA Wins, #15 USC Loses

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Bruins are picking up a fifth straight conference win. Number-8 UCLA beat Cal 81-57 at the Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins improved to 15-and-2 overall and 7-and-1 in Pac-12 play with the victory. Meanwhile, the Trojans had less luck as they were upset at home. Number-15 USC fell 64-61 to Stanford at the Galen Center. The Trojans drop to 17-and-3 overall and 7-and-3 in Pac-12 play.

Report: Mike McCarthy Told He Will Be Back

(Frisco, TX) -- The Cowboys aren't planning to make a change at head coach for the 2022 season. ESPN reports Mike McCarthy was told by Dallas management that he will return next season. This comes after the Cowboys were eliminated by the 49ers in the Wild Card Round, sparking reports that the coach could be on the hot seat. McCarthy has led Dallas to an 18-and-15 record through two seasons, but has yet to win a playoff game.

(Undated) -- Brett Favre is not confident that current Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be returning to Green Bay. In an appearance on WNSP in Mobile, Alabama, Favre said he has a gut feeling he may try his hand somewhere else. Favre went on to mention that quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Joe Montana, and Peyton Manning switched teams after a long, productive career somewhere else. Rodgers has said that he does not want to be part of a rebuilding process, and was noncommittal as to whether he will return to the Packers.

Report: MLB And MLBPA Don't Reach Deal Despite Progress

(New York, NY) -- Major League Baseball and the players association are still working to end the league's current lockout. ESPN reports the sides weren't able to reach a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement on Tuesday. Though there were some positive gains as the MLB reportedly agreed to accept parameters of a pre-arbitration bonus pool. The sides do remain apart on a starting minimum salary for first-year players, revenue sharing and a competitive balance tax. It's reported that a deal would need to be reached by February 1st to avoid delaying the start of spring training camps.

David Ortiz In, Barry Bonds And Roger Clemens Shut Out Of Baseball HOF

(Cooperstown, NY) -- David Ortiz will be a baseball Hall of Famer, while Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens will not. Ortiz was announced into the National Baseball Hall of Fame's 2022 Class Tuesday. Also known as "Big Papi," Ortiz was a 10-time All-Star and also won World Series championships in 2007 and 2013. Bonds and Clemens did not make the cut in what was their last year on the ballot. Bonds, the MLB's home run king, and Clemens, one of nine pitchers to ever win more than 350 games, both did not reach the 75-percent vote threshold for induction.

Harden Unhappy In Brooklyn

(Undated) -- Word around the NBA is that James Harden's interest in testing the open market this summer is increasing. According to Bleacher Reports' Jake Fischer, Harden's impending free agency is impacting the Philadelphia 76ers' asking price for Ben Simmons. Harden remains invested in competing for the title in Brooklyn this season, but has informed former teammates and coaches of his interest in exploring other opportunities this summer.

MLB And Players' Association Plan To Meet Again

(New York, NY) -- Major League Baseball and the MLB Players' Association are planning to meet again today after a productive bargaining session on Monday. During the two-hour meeting, the union gave a broad proposal to drop the request for age-based free agency and lowered the revenue sharing number it was asking the league to move away from small-market clubs. Players are requesting such things as raising the minimum salary and a draft lottery. Negotiations continue to be time-sensitive, as spring training starts in a little under a month, with the regular season starting March 31st.

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Trojans are picking up another conference win. Number-15 USC beat Arizona State 78-56 in Los Angeles. Robot Umps Coming To Triple-A In 2022

(Undated) -- To all the baseball fans who want robot umpires, you're dream is one step closer to fruition. Major League Baseball is adding automated strike zones to Triple-A, which is the highest level in the minor leagues. The MLB posted a job on its website seeking seasonal employees to operate the Automated Ball-Strike system for a handful of Triple-A teams, including the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Sacramento River Cats and Tacoma Rainiers.

Nikola Jokic posted a triple-double with 49 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. Gordon finished with 28 points. Ivica Zubac led the Clippers with 32 points in defeat. Dallas hosted San Francisco on Sunday and averaged over 41-million viewers on CBS and Nickelodeon. The viewing audience peaked with more than 50 million viewers at one point. The 49ers defeated the Cowboys 23-17.

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Dodgers are naming their first general manager since the end of the 2018 season. Los Angeles announced Tuesday that Brandon Gomes was promoted to general manager. Gomes becomes the 12th GM in team history after serving as the vice president and assistant GM for the past three seasons. Gomes is a former MLB pitcher and retired after the 2016 season. He fills the three-year vacancy left by Farhan Zaidi.

Brenden Rice, Son Of Jerry Rice, Transfers To USC

(Undated) -- The USC Trojans are landing the son of an NFL Hall of Famer. Brenden Rice, whose father is NFL legend Jerry Rice, announced Tuesday that he will transfer to USC. Rice spent the last two seasons playing at Colorado and finished with 21 catches for 299 yards and three touchdowns in 2021. He entered the transfer portal on January 1st. (Australia)  --  Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic will be detained later today by Australian authorities amid the ongoing vaccine controversy.  That decision was made after the country's Immigration Minister canceled Djokovic's visa.  He will he interviewed, detained, and taken to his lawyers' office.  However, it's unknown where exactly border officials and Djokovic will meet.

Report: Lillard To Have Abdominal Surgery

(Portland, OR) -- Blazers point guard Damian Lillard's abdominal injury is going to keep him sidelined even longer. ESPN is reporting that Lillard will have surgery to address his lingering abdominal injury. The procedure will reportedly keep Lillard out for at least 6-to-8 weeks. The 31-year-old guard aggravated the injury while playing for Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics last summer and has not played since December 31st. Portland is 16-and-24 and is also dealing with the absence of CJ McCollum, who has missed time with a collapsed lung.

It began in early December and this is the first meeting since then. The report says the league approached the union to set up Thursday's gathering. Spring training games are set to start in late February with the regular season beginning in late March.

The Grizzlies extended their franchise record to 10 wins in a row. Steph Curry tallied 27 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his ninth career triple double.

Mets To Retire Keith Hernandez's Number

(Flushing, NY) -- The Mets are retiring Keith Hernandez's number next season. The team announced today that Number 17 will be retired. Hernandez, who played for the Mets from 1983 to 1989, was also part of the Mets' 1986 world championship team. He joins Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza and Jerry Koosman to be honored.

Report: Diego Valeri Transferring To Argentinian Club

(Portland, OR) -- One of the best Timbers players is on the move. MLS Soccer-dot-com reported that Diego Valeri is being transferred to Argentinian club Lanus. The deal isn't 100-percent done yet, but the transaction would mean the Timbers get a transfer fee of 175-thousand dollars and be absolved from his cap hit in 2022. Valeri has 86 goals and 91 assists in 262 regular-season MLS games. He also helped Portland win the 2015 MLS Cup.

USC QB Jaxson Dart entered the portal on Monday, becoming the latest collegiate star to possibly be on the move before next season. Dart split time under center with Kedon Slovis last season for the Trojans. He threw for 1,353 yards, nine touchdowns and five picks over six games of action. The decision comes after Caleb Williams entered the portal last week and could possibly reunite with Lincoln Riley at USC. ESPN reports the Trojans are among the top schools under consideration for the Oklahoma QB.

Now this is hardly a guarantee since he never guaranteed he will stay with the Seahawks, but it appears he is considering them for the future. Wilson has thrown for 2,875 yards, 22 touchdowns and five picks this season and missed three games with a finger injury.
