(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are down 2-1 in their series against Denver after losing Game Three 120-115 in Portland.  Damian Lillard scored 37 points and C.J. McCollum added 22, but the Blazers had trouble slowing down a Nuggets team that shot almost 53-percent from three.  Nikola Jokic led Denver with 36 points and 11 rebounds.  Game Four is set for Saturday afternoon in Portland.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Chris Flexen was dominant in the Mariners 5-0 win over the Rangers in Seattle.  He gave up just three hits in seven scoreless innings while also striking out six.  Tom Murphy and Jacob Nottingham started the scoring with solo home runs in the third, followed by Jack Mayfield and Mitch Haniger driving home three runs in the eighth.  The four-game series continues tonight.

(Dallas, TX)  --  The Clippers need a win tonight.  LA will visit the Dallas Mavericks for Game Three of the first round.  The Mavericks lead the series 2-0 after winning the first two games of the series in Los Angeles.  A Mavericks win would put the Clippers on the brink of elimination.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Lakers have a series lead.  Anthony Davis scored 34 points as the Lakers pounded the Suns 109-95 in Game Three in Los Angeles.  LeBron James scored 21 for Los Angeles.  Dennis Schroder chipped in 20 for the Lakers.  Schroder took a scary fall late in the game after being shoved by Suns guard Devin Booker.  The Lakers take a 2-1 series lead.  Game Four is Sunday.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Chris Bassitt pitched a complete game, two-hit performance as the Athletics blanked the Angels 5-0 in Oakland.  Sean Murphy drove in two runs for the Angels.  Mark Canha went 3-for-3 for Oakland, which has won two straight.  Justin Upton and Juan Lagares each had a hit for the Angels.  Aaron Slegers took the loss for Los Angeles, which had a three-game win streak snapped.  The two teams battle again this evening.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Max Muncy hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning as the Dodgers edged the Giants 4-3 at home.  Justin Turner and DJ Peters also homered for Los Angeles.  Victor Gonzalez got the win for the Dodgers.  Evan Longoria and Donovan Solano homered for the Giants.  Alex Wood took the loss.  The two rivals battle again tonight.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers will host eight-thousand fans for each game in the Moda Center this postseason.  The eight-thousand fans will be divided into vaccinated and unvaccinated sections.  The decision was reached after weeks of negotiations between the franchise, Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Health Authority.

(Portland, OR)  --  After a 128-109 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday, the Trail Blazers will return home for Game Three of the series on Thursday night.  Damian Lillard had 42 points, 10 assists and shot 9-of-16 from deep in Portland's Game Two defeat while C.J. (Houston, TX)  --  Justin Turner homered as the Dodgers blasted the Astros 9-2 in Houston.  Chris Taylor also drove in a pair of runs for the Dodgers.  Clayton Kershaw allowed just one run over seven and two thirds innings to pick up the win for the Dodgers.  Los Angeles has won eight straight.  The Dodgers and Astros battle again this evening.

(Oakland, CA)  --  J.P. Crawford had three hits and an RBI as the Mariners defeated the A's 4-3 in the Bay Area.  The Mariners got on the board in the first inning with RBI singles from Ty France and Crawford, but Oakland's Jed Lowrie and Tony Kemp drove in runs in the second to even the score.  Tom Murphy and Jarred Kelenic added an RBI double and an RBI single in the fourth to make it 4-2.  Paul Sewald picked up the win in relief, while Rafael Montero notched his sixth save.  Seattle has now won two straight after enduring a six-game skid prior to the series against the A's.  The M's try to sweep the three-game series today.

(Washington, DC)  --  American Olympic athletes are still planning to head to Tokyo for the Summer Olympics.  White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said U.S. athletes will be following strict, longstanding COVID protocols.  Japan is in the midst of another coronavirus surge, which has prompted a "Do Not Travel" advisory from the State Department.  Tokyo is set to host the Olympics starting in July.  

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  Kevin Gausman pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine batters as the Giants blasted the Diamondbacks 8-0 in Phoenix.  Evan Longoria homered for San Francisco and had four RBI.  Brandon Crawford drove in three runs for the Giants, who snapped a three-game slide.  The two battle again tonight.

(Denver, CO)  --  Despite 42 points from Damian Lillard, the Trail Blazers were defeated by the Nuggets, 128-109, in game two of their first-round series.  Dame added 10 assists for the double-double, while CJ McCollum had 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting.  Denver was led by Nikola Jokic, who went for 38 points.  The series shifts to Portland tied at one, with game three on Thursday.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  Fans of the Portland Trail Blazers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be able to attend playoff games in person.  The Trail Blazers have received approval from the Oregon Health Authority to allow vaccinated fans to sit in special sections at the Moda Center, which will increase the number of fans allowed at games.  Tickets for the general public go on sale today.  The Blazers next home game is May 27th in their playoff against Denver.
 

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners beat the Athletics, 4-2, snapping their six-game losing streak in the opening contest of their three-game set in Oakland.  Kyle Lewis and Jarred Kelenic both homered, while Yusei Kikuchi threw six strong innings in the start to pick up the win before exiting with back cramps.  Logan Gilbert is set to start game two tonight.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon baseball lost to the Stanford Cardinal 8-5 and dropped the weekend series.  The game went into extra innings when the Cardinal scored three runs in the top of the 12th.  The Ducks will finish the regular season with a three game series against California.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Gavin Lux hit a grand slam as the Dodgers crushed the Giants 11-5 in San Francisco.  The Dodgers plated seven runs in the third inning.  Max Muncy also homered for Los Angeles.  Starter Julio Urias struck out 10 and allowed just two runs over six innings while also driving in three runs at the plate.  The Dodgers finished the sweep.  Austin Slater homered for the Giants in defeat.  Anthony DeSclafani allowed 10 runs over two and two thirds innings for San Francisco, which had a five-game winning streak entering the series.  The Dodgers visit the Astros tomorrow.  The Giants are at the Diamondbacks tomorrow.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners lost their sixth straight with a 9-2 setback to the Padres in San Diego.  Fernando Tatis Junior hit two home runs including a seventh inning grand slam to help sweep Seattle.  The Mariners will stay in California as they will start a series with the Athletics in Oakland tonight.

The Trail Blazers are gearing up for the playoffs.  Portland will visit the Denver Nuggets for Game One tomorrow.  Game Two will be on Monday.

It's win or go home for the Warriors.  Golden State will host the Memphis Grizzlies in the final play-in game for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.  The winner will face the Utah Jazz in the first round starting Sunday.

The Lakers are ready for the Suns.  Game One of the first round series is Sunday in Phoenix.  Los Angeles earned the seventh seed after defeating the Warriors 103-100 in the play-in game on Wednesday night.

The Clippers open up their trek through the playoffs tomorrow.  Los Angeles will host the Dallas Mavericks.  The Clippers are hoping to repeat their success against the Mavericks from last year in the bubble, when they won the first round series.

The Angels offered up a split in their doubleheader with the Twins on Thursday.  Miguel Sano smacked a grand slam in the first inning as the Twins doubled up the Angels 6-3, in the finale  Jose Rojas went deep for the Angels, who have dropped seven of their last 10.  The Halos won the opener of the twin-bill 7-1.

Will Smith hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning as the Dodgers defeated the Diamondbacks 3-2 in Los Angeles.  Albert Pujols also homered for Los Angeles.  Victor Gonzalez got the win for the Dodgers while Kenley Jansen picked up the save.  Los Angeles finished the four-game sweep.  The Dodgers visit the Giants tonight.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Sean Murphy drove in the lone run as the Athletics fell 8-1 to the Astros in Oakland.  Frankie Montas was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs over five innings.  Oakland has split its last four games.  The Astros and Athletics battle again this afternoon.

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  Kevin Gausman pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight as the Giants blanked the Reds 4-0 in Cincinnati.  Gausman also recorded the one-thousandth strikeout of his career in the fifth inning.  Buster Posey hit a three-run double in the ninth inning for the Giants, who have won four straight.  The Giants and Reds wrap up the series today in Cincinnati.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Oregon Health Authority is out with new guidance on when vaccinated people can go maskless.  The agency says if a business or church chooses not to require masks and physical distancing, it needs to have a process to check for proof of vaccination before people enter.  Face coverings are no longer required outdoors regardless of vaccination status.  OHA recommends that people who have not been vaccinated and people who are at high risk of severe COVID-19 continue to wear face coverings.

(Portland, OR)  --  Oregon is reporting 484 new cases of COVID-19 along with four new deaths from the virus.  The Oregon Health Authority reported the new numbers yesterday.  The number of people hospitalized declined by eleven to 331.  There have now been two-thousand-593 deaths in Oregon related to COVID-19 and 196-thousand-390 confirmed cases.

(Portland, OR)  --  Health officials say five Oregon counties have met the 65-percent vaccination target and will be allowed to move to the Lower Risk Level on Friday.  The counties are Benton, Deschutes, Hood River, Lincoln and Washington.  They all submitted vaccination equity plans that were approved by the Oregon Health Authority to make sure underrepresented communities will get access to the vaccine.  Risk levels will be reassessed on a weekly basis.

(Portland, OR)  --  A Beaverton ex-convict is headed back to prison for a fraud scheme that targeted local credit union members.  Prosecutors say between March and April of 2020, 31-year-old Winston Gray used fake customer support telephone messages and calls to trick credit union customers into giving him their personal financial information.  Gray then used the information to create counterfeit debit and credit cards to purchase goods and withdraw cash.  Gray pleaded guilty to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.  A federal judge sentenced Gray to four years in federal prison and ordered him to pay 60-thousand dollars in restitution.  He was previously convicted of assault and making false statements.

(Portland, OR)  --  The owners of a Northeast Portland pet rescue, boarding and daycare facility are facing criminal charges for animal neglect.  Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt says Tori Head and Samantha Miller have each been indicted on 157 counts of animal neglect, 13 counts of identity theft and 15 counts of forgery.  The investigation started last summer with multiple complaints about the conditions at Woofin Palooza on Northeast 82nd Avenue.  A county inspection officer found the facility overwhelmed with dogs and cats crammed into filthy kennels.  Officials seized 117 animals, some of which have since died.  Court documents say the owners were also falsifying vaccination documentation for adopted animals.

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners have been on the receiving end of a no-hitter for the second time in just a 13-day span. Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull recorded his first careers no-hitter, striking out nine batters and walking only two in a 5-0 win for the Tigers. The Mariners will look to avoid the series sweep and record a hit this evening. Logan Gilbert will be starting on the mound for the Mariners.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners dropped the series opener against the Tigers, 3-1, ending their three-game win streak.  They couldn't get the best of Detroit starter Casey Mize, who allowed three hits and one run across seven-plus innings, striking out seven.  Tom Murphy's solo home run in the eighth was the lone tally for the M's.  Justin Dunn starts the rematch tonight.

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  The Giants hit three home runs as they doubled up the Reds 6-3 in Cincinnati.  Wilmer Flores, Mike Yastrzemski, and Mauricio Dubon all went yard for San Francisco.  The Giants have won two straight and square off with the Reds again this evening.  San Francisco is 25-and-16.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are celebrating two honors this week.  Guard Damian Lillard has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for the third time season.  And Coach Terry Stotts has been named the NBA Western Conference Coach of the Month. Over the last week, Lillard scored an average of 31 points and had an average of six assists.  The Blazers won three of their four games and secured the team's eighth consecutive post season appearance.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Trail Blazers picked up a key road win last night against the league's best Jazz, knocking them off 105-98. The Blazers held the Jazz starters to a combined 54 points. Sitting at the fifth place, the Blazers control their own destiny to clinch the five seed by winning each of their last two games. The tough finish to the season continues tonight against the Suns in Phoenix.

(Seattle, WA) -- Sounders FC picked up its fourth win of the 2021 MLS season and stayed unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over San Jose Earthquakes FC last night. Chrisitan Roldan's goal in the 18th minute was the only one scored in the contest and Seattle's only shot on goal, while San Jose was unable to convert any of their six shots on goal. Sounders FC will be back in action on Sunday on the road against LAFC, who they drew 1-1 with on April 24th.

Metcalf is not going to this year's Tokyo Olympics after missing the cut in his professional track debut Sunday.  In the USA Track and Field Golden Games and Distance Open in California, he posted a 100-meter dash time of 10-point-three-seven seconds.  At six-foot-four and about 230 pounds, Metcalf finished 15th out of 17 participants.  The best time was nine-point-nine-six seconds.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  OSU Baseball is coming off losing two of their last three games, back in Corvallis for a series against the struggling USC Trojans.  Sophomore Kevin Abel is slated to start Game 1 Friday, the right-hander hoping to 4-3 on the season.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Huskies Baseball is swimming with the big kids this weekend, facing the Oregon Ducks in Eugene.  The Ducks hoping to shake off their series loss to Washington State while the Huskies are in a similar situation, the bad taste of being swept by California still fresh.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Mike Zunino homered as the Rays took down the Angels 8-3 in Anaheim.  Shohei Ohtani homered for the Angels.  Mike Mayers gave up four runs over a third of an inning for the Angels.  Los Angeles has lost five straight.  The Angels host the Dodgers tonight.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Randal Grichuk smacked a three-run homer and drove in five runs as the Blue Jays blasted the Athletics 10-4 in Oakland.  Mike Fiers was tagged for five runs in less than four frames as he fell to 0-and-2 with the loss.  Mark Canha homered for the A's.  The Athletics host the Rays tonight.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  One of the greatest hitters of all time is being released.  The Los Angeles Angels are designating Albert Pujols for assignment.  Owner Arte Moreno released a statement saying Pujols is an inspiration to many for his accomplishments both on the baseball diamond and away from it.  Pujols came to the Angels after winning two World Series championships with the St. Louis Cardinals.  The three-time National League M-V-P has hit 667 career homers, but was hitting just .198 this season in 86 at-bats. 

(San Francisco, CA)  -- Stephen Curry went for 34 points as the Warriors beat the Thunder 118-97 in San Francisco.  Mychal Mulder had 25 points off the bench while Andrew Wiggins chipped in 18.  Golden State has won three-of-four.  The Warriors host the Thunder again tomorrow.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Paul George scored 24 points as the Clippers blasted the Lakers 118-94 in Los Angeles.  Kawhi Leonard added 15 points for the Clippers.  The Clippers have won two straight.  Kyle Kuzma led the Lakers with 25 points.  Anthony Davis left the game with back spasms.  The Lakers have lost four of five.  The Lakers visit the Trail Blazers tonight.  The Clippers host the Knicks Sunday.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  Death, taxes and Dame Time as Damian Lillard led Portland with 32 points in a 36-point destruction of Cleveland, 141-105.  Portland's big men Enes Kanter and Jusuf Nurkic (Yu-SUF Nur-KITCH) both pouring in Double-Doubles as the Trail Blazers continues to chase the Lakers for the West's 6th spot.  The Trail Blazers are 37-and-29.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers fans will return to the Moda Center on Friday when the team faces off against the Lakers.  The State of Oregon is allowing spectators into the arena at ten-percent capacity.  Ticket pre-sales will start this morning for all remaining regular home season games.  Season ticket holders will get first priority.  All tickets will be on the Trail Blazers app to avoid physical contact.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  The Warriors are at home tonight.  Golden State will welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder to town.  The Warriors are 33-and-33 on the season.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Lakers and Clippers will do battle at the Staples Center tonight.  The Lakers are 37-and-28 on the season.  The Clippers are 44-and-22.  Both are fighting for playoff positioning in the Western Conference.

(Mexico City, MX)  --  There will be no CONCACAF Championship hopes for the Timbers after falling 3-1 to Club América in Mexico City Wednesday.  Portland loses 4-2 in aggregate as Diego Valeri scores the Timbers' only goal, a penalty kick.

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners evened the series against the Orioles last night, 5-2. The Mariners will look to take the series when the teams face off again at T-Mobile Park this afternoon.  Yusei Kikuchi will be on the mound for the Mariners in the series finale.

(Cleveland, OH) -- The Trail Blazers are in action this evening against the Cavaliers in Cleveland. The Blazers are one game behind the Lakers and Mavericks for fifth place in the West and would be in the play-in tournament if the season ended today. The Blazers four-game winning streak was snapped on Monday in a road loss to the Hawks.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Cubs scored a combined 11 runs as they swept the Dodgers in a doubleheader in Chicago.  Kyle Hendricks went the distance and gave up one run as the Cubs beat the Dodgers 7-1 in Game One.  Jake Marisnick homered for Chicago.  Clayton Kershaw lasted just an inning in the shortest start of his career and gave up four runs in the loss for the Dodgers.  In the second game, David Bote drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Cubs won 4-3.  Javy Baez tied the game in the eighth with a two-run home run.  Los Angeles has lost eight of 10.  The two wrap up the series this evening.

(Seattle, WA) -- Huskies men's basketball coach Mike Hopkins announced the hiring of former Husky star and eight-year NBA veteran Quincy Pondexter as an assistant coach. Pondexter attended Washington from 2006-2010, scoring 1,786 career points.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Austin Meadows belted a pair of late home runs and drove in five as the Rays beat the Angels 8-3 in Anaheim.  Mike Trout hit his eighth homer of the season for the Halos, who have dropped three in-a-row.  Alex Cobb fell to 1-and-2 despite permitting just two unearned runs in five innings of work.  The Angels and Rays face each other again tonight.

(Atlanta, GA) -- Carmelo Anthony is moving into elite company as an NBA scorer. The Trail Blazers forward is now 10th on the all-time scoring list, passing Elvin Hayes on Monday. It came early in the second quarter when he hit a three-pointer that he was fouled on. 'Melo finished the game with 14 points and now sits at 27,318 career points.

(Atlanta, GA) -- The Trail Blazers came into last night's match with the Hawks in Atlanta on a four-game winning streak, but did not get enough defensive stops down the stretch of the 123-114 loss. Damian Lillard led the way with 33 points and eight assists in a losing effort.   The Blazers road trip will continue tomorrow evening in Cleveland against the Cavaliers.
 

(New Orleans, LA) -- The Warriors picked up a second straight road win last night as they knocked off the Pelicans 123-108 in Smoothie King Center. Steph Curry scorched the Pelicans, scoring 41 points and knocking down eight of eighteen three-point attempts while Draymond Green posted a triple-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 15 assists.

(Oakland, CA) -- The A's held off a rally from the Blue Jays in the series opener last night to come up with the 5-4 victory after leading 3-0 early at home. The A's will host the Blue Jays again this evening in the second game of a four-game series. 

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners could not get the bats going against the Orioles, falling 5-3 in the series opener at T-Mobile Park. The loss was the second in three games for the Mariners, who now sit two games behind the A's for first place in the AL West. The teams will get back at it this evening.

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Anthony Davis and the shorthanded Lakers held off the pesky Nuggets, 93-89, in a crucial win without LeBron James and Dennis Schroeder. Davis finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. The win moved the Lakers into fifth place in the West and a full game ahead of the Blazers to avoid the play-in tournament.

(Boston, MA)  --   The Blazers win their fourth in a row after a 129-119 victory in Boston over the Celtics.  Portland was powered by 33 points from CJ McCollum and 26 points from Damian Lillard.  They'll look to push their winning streak to five when they travel to Atlanta tonight to play the Hawks.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are looking ahead to their second CONCACAF leg against America on Wednesday.  The Timbers were losers to Dallas FC on Saturday 4-1.  Portland and America are tied 1-1 after the first leg in Portland.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Justus Sheffield threw six scoreless innings as the Mariners blanked the Angels 2-0 in Seattle.  Dylan Bundy allowed two runs over six innings to take the loss for the Angels.  Los Angeles finished with just five hits.  The Angels have lost two of three.  The Angels will host the Rays tonight.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Mike Tauchman homered as the Giants blasted the Padres 7-1 in San Diego.  Tauchman drove in four runs for San Francisco.  Kevin Gausman gave up just one run to get the win for the Giants, who avoided the three-game sweep.  The Giants visit the Rockies tonight.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Matt Olson and Ramon Laureano homered as the Athletics topped the Orioles 7-5 in Oakland.  Jed Lowrie also drove in a pair of runs.  Yusmeiro Petit picked up the win while Lou Trivino notched the save for Oakland, which avoided the three-game sweep.  The Athletics host the Blue Jays tonight.

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  A.J. Pollock drove in eight runs and Matt Beaty drove in seven as the Dodgers crushed Brewers 16-4 in Milwaukee.  Both hit a grand slam while Pollock finished with two home runs.  Julio Urias gave up just one run over seven innings and struck out 10 for the Dodgers, who snapped a three-game skid.  The Dodgers visit the Cubs this evening.
