(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider says he expects defensive end Michael Bennett to report on time to training camp, which begins today.  Bennett, who's been seeking a new contract, has indicated he may hold out of training camp, but Schneider says he's heard nothing to make him believe Bennett won't report as scheduled.  Bennett is entering the third-year of a four year, 28-point-five-million-dollar deal, which makes him the 19th-highest-paid defensive end in the NFL.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks have added Becca Block to the lacrosse coaching staff.  Block will join the team as an assistant coach.  She spent last season as an assistant coach at the University of Florida.  She also previously coached at Michigan and Vermont.

(San Jose, CA)  --  Arsenal FC of the English Premier League downed the MLS All-Stars, 2-1, at Avaya Stadium.  Timbers forward and midfielder Darlington Nagbe logged 45 minutes of action.  Portland returns to the pitch on Sunday at Children's Mercy Park against Sporting Kansas City.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers captain Liam Ridgewell is being suspended for Sunday's game against Sporting Kansas City for missing the MLS All-Star Game.  Ridgewell suffered a calf injury last week and missed Saturday's game against the LA Galaxy, and wasn't ready to play in last night's All-Star match.  But the MLS suspended Ridgewell because of a rule the league enacted last year, designed to discourage players from skipping the All-Star game.  Timbers coach Caleb Porter calls the rule unfair and says Ridgewell wanted to play in the All-Star Game.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers have signed goalkeeper Chris Konopka.  The 31-year-old began his professional career in 2007 with the Kansas City Wizards.  He most recently played for Ross County FC in the Scottish Premiership.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are projected to finish the upcoming NBA season in fourth place in the Western Conference.  ESPN has released its "Summer Forecast," which has the Blazers improving on both last season's record and playoff seeding.  The annual rankings predict Portland will improve by two wins to 46-and-36.  The Blazers will also jump from the fifth seed in the West to number-four.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Steel will close out the regular season with a matchup against the LA Kiss at the Moda Center on Monday.  Portland is coming off a painful one-point loss to Tampa Bay, 41-40.  The Steel are 2-and-13 on the season.  Both wins have come at home.

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  Hillsboro used a four-run third inning to power the Hops past the Hawks, 4-0, at Ron Tonkin Field.  Bo Takahashi picked up the win with five innings of two-hit ball.  Palmer Betts allowed one hit in four innings to earn his first save of the season.  Hillsboro improved to 21-and-19 on the year.  The Hops will try to earn the three-game sweep tonight at Ron Tonkin Field.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  The Mariners have the day off after splitting a two-game series with Pittsburgh.  Last night, the Pirates pounded out 14 hits to clobber Seattle, 10-1.  The Mariners only had three hits, and Robinson Cano had a sixth inning RBI to account for Seattle's only run.  The Mariners will begin a three-game series against the Cubs tomorrow in Chicago.

The Bend Elks got off the Schnide last night as they ended a 5-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Corvallis Knights.

The Elks scored 2 runs in the 8th inning to secure the win thanks to RBI’s by Billy King and the game winning hit from All-Star Catcher Lucas Wolfe.

Bend continues the 3-game series with Corvallis at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium tonight at 640pm and closes the set out tomorrow night before returning home Saturday night to face Division leading Gresham at Vince Genna Stadium.

With the win…the Elks improve to 8-and-11 in South Division play of the Westcoast League and just 4-1/2 games out of first place behind Gresham with 8 League games to play for a shot at claiming a Playoff spot.
 

On the big league diamond….the Mariners continue their 8-game road trip back east and continue to find wins coming off the All-Star break where Seattle has now won 6 of their last 9-games.

Last night in Pittsburgh, the M’s beat the Pirates 7-4 in ‘Inter-league’ play as star pitcher Felix Hernandez earned his first win since late May coming off a severe right calf injury.

Seattle got home runs from Kyle Seager and Franklin Guitierraz to lead the way.

The Mariners are only 6-games out of first place in the AL-West with a 51-and 48 record and play again in Pittsburgh today before moving on to Chicago tomorrow to face the Cubbies.

Sonny Gray had a season-high eight strikeouts and overcame one bad inning, Josh Reddick drove in three runs, and the Oakland A’s beat the  Rangers in Texas 6-3 last night.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are locking up another young player to a long-term extension.  The Vertical reports the team has agreed with restricted free agent Maurice Harkless on a four-year, 40-million-dollar deal.  The 23-year-old averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 78 games last season.  Portland has now re-signed Harkless, Allen Crabbe, Meyers Leonard and reportedly C.J. McCollum.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers winger Darren Mattocks is nearing a sooner-than-expected return from a hamstring injury.  Mattocks went down with the injury on July 10th, and was expected to miss eight-to-10 weeks.  He could be available to maybe make his return when the Timbers face CD Dragon in a CONCACAF Champions League game on August 3rd.

(Portland, OR)  --  The WinCo Foods Portland Open is securing its fourth year of the tournament less than a month before it tees off for a third installment.  Agreements for the Web.com Tour event were finalized with WinCo Foods and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.  This year's tournament will be held at the Witch Hollow course beginning August 25th.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will be staying in Seattle for a few more years.  He and the team have agreed to a deal that will extend his contract through the 2019 season.  The move comes days after the Seahawks signed general manager John Schneider to a five-year extension.  Carroll is considered the Seahawks' most successful coach in franchise history, winning 63-percent of his regular-season games and 67-percent of playoff games, and leading the team to the Super Bowl title for the 2013 season.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland guard C.J. McCollum will be sticking around in Rip City for a few more years.  The Trail Blazers and McCollum have agreed to a four-year, 106-million-dollar maximum contract extension.  Last season, McCollum earned Most Improved Player honors after hitting per-game career highs in points, assists, rebounds and steals.  The McCollum deal is taking place after the Blazers acquired free agents Evans Turner and Festus Ezeli, and locked in restricted free agents Meyers Leonard and Allen Crabbe.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers are inking undrafted free agent guard Tim Quarterman to a contract.  The 6-foot-6 player most recently played for the Charlotte Hornets in summer league.  Quarterman averaged 11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists for LSU last season.
 

(Pullman, WA)  --   Pullman police are investigating a fight that left one man seriously injured, and reportedly involved several members of the Washington State University football team.  Authorities say one man suffered a broken jaw and will need to have it wired shut.  Another man was knocked unconscious and another suffered lacerations.  Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennent tells KREM-TV the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and a prosecutor will later decide if there's enough evidence to file charges.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Timbers defender Nat Borchers needs season-ending surgery.  He ruptured his left Achilles tendon in Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy.  The 35-year-old is a fan favorite for last season's team that won the MLS Cup.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The LA Galaxy jumped out to a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 win over the Timbers at Providence Park on Saturday.  Zarek Valentin  netted the lone goal for Portland, which dropped to 7-7-and-8 on the season.  It was the first loss for the Timbers in nine games.  Portland will face Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park on Sunday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Steel fell to the Storm, 41-40, when Tampa Bay blocked Portland's last-second field goal attempt at Amalie Arena on Saturday night.  The Steel dropped to 2-and-13 with the loss.  They'll wrap up the regular season next Monday night against the LA Kiss at the Moda Center.  The game will coincide with Portland's Fan Appreciation Night.
 

(Renton, WA)  --  John Schneider could become one of the NFL's highest-paid general managers.  The Seahawks G.M., who was entering the final year of his old contract in 2016, has agreed to a five-year extension.  John Clayton of ESPN is reporting that the new pact could make Schneider one of the highest-paid G.M.s in the league.  Hawks head coach Pete Carroll, who's also entering the final year of his contract, is expected to get an extension offer from the team.

(Portland, OR)  --  The University of Portland will be well represented at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Portland alums Megan Rapinoe, Christine Sinclair and Sophie Schmidt will each be competing on women's soccer teams.  Rapinoe will represent Team USA, while Sinclair and Schmidt will play for Team Canada.  The Olympic soccer competition begins on Wednesday, August 3rd.

(Cooperstown, NY)  --  "The Kid" is now a member of baseball's Hall of Fame.  Ken Griffey, Jr. was inducted yesterday in Cooperstown, joining fellow Class of 2016 member Mike Piazza for enshrinement into the hall.  Griffey had two tours with Seattle for a total of 13 years with the Mariners, and his Hall of Fame plaque depicts him wearing a Mariners cap.  Griffey, who retired in 2010, says he wants to be remembered as "a guy that gave everything he had."

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State University has named Sharon Rissmiller interim assistant coach of the Beavers' women's basketball team.  Rissmiller replaces former assistant coach Mandy Close, who resigned last month.  Rissmiller will remain in the position until a permanent replacement is hired.  She is currently the Director of Operations for OSU athletics.
 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State has hired Jennifer Buffin as its new swimming coach.  Buffin spent the past 10 years at the University of Hawaii where she served as the head coach of the swimming and diving teams.  Buffin's teams won two conference titles during her time at Hawaii.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seahawks fans will be able to buy single-game tickets for the 2016 season beginning Monday.  Team officials say more than one-thousand tickets will go on sale at ten o'clock Monday morning at CenturyLink Field.  Fans will be allowed to stand in line for the tickets beginning Sunday afternoon at three o'clock.  Season tickets are sold out.
 

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State golfer Conner Kumpula has been named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  Kumpula was also named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team this season.  The OSU senior is majoring in industrial engineering.

(Undated)  --  John Schneider of the Seattle Seahawks is ranked as one of the NFL's top general managers.  The "Sporting News" ranks Schneider as the fourth-best GM in the league, saying he's kept the Seahawks a contender for the Super Bowl for the past several years and has them primed for another run this year.  The magazine says the Seahawks continue to be strong on defense and its offense is rapidly improving with Russell Wilson at the helm.  Schneider trails only the Broncos' John Elway, Bill Belichick of the Patriots, and Dave Gettleman of the Carolina Panthers.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The family of U.S. Olympic track and field athlete Devon Allen have not made any NCAA violations trying to get to Rio for the summer games.  The family of the hurdler Allen, who competes collegiately at Oregon, set up a GoFundMe account to fund a trip to watch him compete next month.  The Allen's have raised nearly 23-thousand-dollars in donations.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners will try to win their series with the White Sox today, after losing to Chicago last night, 6-1.  A solo home run by Robinson Cano [[ kah-NO ]] in the fourth inning accounted for Seattle's only score.  Pitcher Wade Miley gave up three runs on six hits in picking up the loss.  Felix Hernandez is slated to take the mound at Safeco Field this afternoon after being out since late May with a strained calf.

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon running back Royce Freeman has been getting a lot of attention before the football season even starts.  Freeman has been named to several preseason watch lists, including the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, and the Doak Walker Award.  Freeman set the Ducks' record with 1,836 rushing yards last season.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  Former Oregon baseball player Ryon Healy made his MLB debut over the weekend with the Oakland Athletics.  Healy went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Friday.  He recorded his first major league hit on Saturday with a three-run homer to help propel the A's to victory.  Healy is the first former Oregon position player to play in the big leagues since 1986.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State's Victor Bolden Junior and Seth Collins have been named to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award.  The award is presented annually to the most versatile player in college football.  The winner will be announced in December.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners fall to .500 after losing to Houston at home, 8-1.  Starting pitcher Mike Montgomery took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings.  Kyle Seager drove in the Mariners' only run in the eighth inning.  Seattle will host the Chicago White Sox for a three-game series, beginning tonight.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State running back Ryan Nall has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list.  Nall is among 88 players who were named to the preseason list.  The trophy is awarded to the player who best combines community service with athletic and academic achievements. The Wuerffel Trophy will be presented on December 6th in New York City.

(Las Vegas, NV)  --   Pat Connaughton knocked down a game-winning three pointer in sudden death double overtime as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Utah Jazz 92-89 in Las Vegas Summer League action.  Connaughton notched 19 points, and C.J. Fair had a team-high 20 as the Blazers earned their first win in Sin City in three tries.  The Blazers battle the Jazz tonight in the first round of the tournament.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The father of University of Oregon and U.S. Olympian Track & Field athlete Devon Allen is trying to get himself to Rio to watch his son compete in the Olympics.  Allen qualified last week in Eugene for the 110-meter hurdles, with his father and many family members in attendance.  His dad was recently laid off in May, and has lived off savings while applying for new jobs.  He has a GoFundMe account to try to find a way to get there with flights and hotel prices increasing with the Olympics about a month away.

(Portland, OR)  --  Despite goalie Adam Kwarasey nearing a return from injury, but Timbers coach Caleb Porter says the team won't be changing who's in net.  The Timbers are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak with goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.  Kwarasey injured his finger in a game against the New England Revolution in April and hasn't made an appearance for the Timbers since.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is receiving 250-thousand-dollars from Bend company Hydro Flask to help develop a new outdoor products degree program.  The gift comes as OSU prepares to open two new buildings this fall at its Cascades campus in Bend.  The town is a growing hub for outdoor recreation companies like Hydro Flask, which designs and manufactures insulated stainless steel water bottles.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is giving an assist to a Vancouver teenager and mother.  According to the "Oregonian" the teen wanted to attend Lillard's camp, but it was full.  The mother sent the All-Star a message on Instagram, and Lillard not only allowed the teen to attend but also paid his 350-dollar camp fees.
 

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are seeking their first win of the Summer League tonight in Las Vegas.  The Blazers meet the Utah Jazz after dropping games to Phoenix and San Antonio.  It is the final contest before the Summer League Tournament.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls says he should be ready to go when training camp begins July 30th.  Rawls, who gained 830 yards as a rookie for Seattle in 2015, says rehab has been going well as he recovers from a broken ankle and ligament damage he suffered last season.  Rawls will battle for playing time among a crowded field of running backs, including Christine Michael, a former top draft choice for the Seahawks.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano didn't last long in last night's Home Run Derby.  Cano was beaten 24-7 in the opening round by Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins.  Stanton went on to win the event.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks will be without a wide receiver when fall camp opens next month.  Devon Allen has qualified for the U.S. Olympic team in the 110-meter hurdles.  Allen set a University of Oregon record with a time of 13.03 seconds at the Olympic Trials on Saturday.  He led the Ducks with seven touchdown catches during his freshman year but missed his entire sophomore season due to a knee injury.

(Kansas City, MO)  --  The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on for an 8-5 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.  Mike Montgomery picked up the win against the team that drafted him by allowing one run while pitching into the seventh inning.  Robinson Cano and Adam Lind each homered for Seattle in a five-run seventh inning.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is one of eight sluggers in tonight's Home Run Derby in San Diego.  Cano will go up against the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton in the bracketed format.  The winner will face either Mark Trumbo or Corey Seager in the semifinals.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have signed free agent center Festus Ezeli.  Multiple reports state that the 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Portland that will pay him 15.2-million-dollars.  Ezeli averaged seven points and over five rebounds per game last season.  He was a first-round pick of the Golden State Warriors in 2012.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have extended their partnership with NBC Sports Group and Comcast SportsNet Northwest.  The contract extension begins in the 2017-2018 season when CSN Northwest will become the team's "exclusive media partner" and will broadcast all of the team's regional games.  Portland's games will continue to be shared between CSN Northwest and the local NBC affiliate next season.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Former Oregon baseball player Ryon Healy has been selected to take part in the All-Star Futures Game at Petco Park on Sunday.  The Futures Game showcases 50 of the top MLB prospects.  Twenty-five will play for the USA team, while the other 25 will be part of the world team's roster.  Healy was selected in the third round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Steel will look to earn their second win of the season when they host the Orlando Predators tomorrow night at the Moda Center.  Portland is a league-worst 1-and-11 while Orlando leads the league at 11-and-2.  The Steel have allowed a league-high 739 points on the season.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State University punter Nick Porebski is one of 28 players who have been named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list.  The Ray Guy Award will be presented in December to the nation's top punter.  Porebski was a semifinalist for the award last season.

(Portland, OR)  --  Meadow McWhorter has been named the new head softball coach at Portland State University.  McWhorter spent the previous 14 seasons as the head coach at Mt. Hood Community College, where she was 468-and-146 and won five Northwest Athletic Conference championships.  McWhorter was a four-time NWAC Coach of the Year selection during her time at Mt. Hood.

(Portland, OR)  --  Free agent center Festus Ezeli flew to Portland last night for a meeting with the Blazers.  Ezeli told CSN that he "bought a one-way ticket" and plans to figure something out.  The 26-year-old spent the last four seasons with Golden State, although he missed the entire 2013-14 season after having knee surgery.  He averaged seven points and just under six rebounds last season for the Warriors.

(New York, NY)  --  The Portland Timbers get some time off before a road matchup with the Red Bulls in New York Sunday.  The team was last in action Monday in a 0-0 road-draw with Colorado.  Portland has 24 points on the season and holds a tie for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

(Undated)  --  The Oregon Ducks have picked up one of the nation's top kicking recruits for their 2017 recruiting class.  Kicker Adam Stack announced on Twitter Wednesday that he has committed to Oregon.  Stack is both a place kicker and a punter.  Stack is a converted soccer player out of Honolulu, Hawaii.  He chose the Ducks over offers from Army, Miami, Oregon State, San Diego State and Wisconsin.
 

(Undated)  --  Oregon State shortstop Trever Morrison has elected to forgo his senior season and sign with the Milwaukee Brewers.  Morrison was selected in the 12th round by the Brewers.  He finished his junior year hitting .284 with a homer and 26 runs batted in.  OSU has now lost five players to the pro ranks this summer.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are adding Shabazz Napier to their backcourt.  The "Orlando Sentinel" reports the Blazers have acquired Napier from the Orlando Magic for cash considerations.  The 25-year-old scored 3.7 points and dished out 1.8 assists per game last season for the Magic.

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  Taylor Wright was rocked for eight runs in less than five innings as the Hops were crushed 9-0 by Tri-City.  Wright fell to 0-and-3.  The series continues tonight.

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Blazers are losing guard Gerald Henderson to the Philadelphia 76ers.  The Vertical reports the Sixers have agreed to a two-year, 18-million-dollar contract with Henderson.  The 28-year-old averaged 8.7 points and 2.9 rebounds as a reserve last season with the Blazers.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  The University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field continues to host the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials this week.  The event kicked off last Friday and runs through Sunday.  It is the third consecutive Olympic Games that Hayward Field has hosted the Trials.

(Commerce City, CO)  --  The Portland Timbers played to a 0-0 draw with the Rapids last night in Colorado.  Portland sits in seventh in the Western Conference with 24 points.  The Timbers visit the New York Red Bulls on Sunday.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  A pair of former Ducks are heading to the Summer Olympics.  Cyrus Hostettler and Sam Crouser punched their tickets to Rio at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.  The 2016 Olympics open on August 5th.

 

(Portland, OR)  --  Pau Gasol isn't coming to the Trail Blazers after all.  The veteran center has agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, leaving Portland without another free agent.  Sources say Gasol is signing with the Spurs for 30-million-dollars over two years.  Toronto and Minnesota were also considered in the running for the six-time All-Star.

(Hillsboro, OR)  --  The Hillsboro Hops dumped the Tri-City Dust Devils, 7-3, in the opener of a five-game set at Ron Tonkin Field.  Sergio Alcantara had three hits and two RBI for the Hops, who improved to 8-and-10.  The series continues tonight.
 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will be spending their Fourth of July in Colorado this year.  Portland will face the Rapids on Monday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.  The Timbers are coming off a one-nil loss to the LA Galaxy in U.S. Open Cup play.  Portland is 6-6-and-5 this season with 23 points.  Colorado is first in the Western Conference at 9-2-and-5 with 32 points.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers have loaned midfielder Dairon Asprilla to Colombia's Millonarios F.C.  Asprilla has spent the past two seasons with Portland, tallying two goals and two assists in 35 games.  The loan runs through June 30th, 2017.
 

(Eugene, OR)  --  The NCAA has granted the petition of Oregon guard Dylan Ennis for a sixth year of eligibility.  Ennis appeared in just two games last season for the Ducks due to a foot injury.  He is pursuing a graduate degree in conflict and dispute resolution after transferring to Oregon from Villanova.
