(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have come to terms to extend their other star guard.  CJ McCollum signed a three-year, 100-million-dollar deal Tuesday, extending his current deal until 2024.  The total value of the contract is now worth 157-million-dollars.  The guard averaged 21 points per game last year, including 24.7 points per game in the playoffs after missing 11 of the final 12 games of the regular season with a knee injury. 

Ducks, Beavers Open Camp This Week

(Undated)  --  Oregon will open camp Friday in Eugene while State will start Thursday in Corvallis.  The Ducks will open the season against the Auburn Tigers in Arlington, Texas on August 31st while the Beavers will open the season August 30th at Reser Stadium against Oklahoma State.  The Civil War will be at Autzen Stadium November 30th. 

Timbers Visit Minnesota United Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will be in front of the Wonderwall at Allianz Field Sunday when they face Minnesota United.  Portland resoundingly beat the LA Galaxy 4-nil at Providence Park on Saturday.  Portland has 31 points and are in seventh in the West.  United is fifth in the West with 35 points through 22 matches.

Seager Powers Mariners Past Rangers

(Arlington, TX)  --  Kyle Seager homered and tripled in a pair in the seventh as the Mariners beat the Rangers 8-5 in Arlington.  Domingo Santa hit his 21st homer of the season in the first.  Mallex Smith picked up his 100th career stolen base in the fourth inning, and followed it up with number 101, when he stole third base in the same frame.  Mike Leake gave up five runs in five-and-two-thirds, but earned a no decision.  Sam Tuivailala picked up the win, his first of the year, in relief while Roenis Elias nailed down his 14th save.  The M's have won six-straight, tying their longest streak of the season.

Mariners Look For Season-High Win Streak Tonight

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Mariners will go for a season-high seven-straight win tonight against the Rangers in Texas.  Opener Wade LeBlanc is scheduled to start for Seattle, who is 4-and-0 with a 2.86 ERA in his nine appearances to kick off the game.  Currently, all-star Mike Minor is scheduled to go for the Rangers.  He's 8-and-6 with a 3.00 ERA.  However, with the lefty being the topic of trade rumors, it is unclear if he'll still be with the team when the game begins.

Servais Becomes Second M's Manager With 300 Wins

(Arlington, TX)  --  Mariners skipper Scott Servais joined elusive company with Tuesday night's victory, becoming only the second manager in team history with 300 wins. He joins Lou Piniella, who won 840 games in his decade with the club from 1993 to 2002.  Servais is only the third manager in team's relatively short history to be at the helm for four or more seasons, joining Piniella and Darrell Johnson. 

Gordon Could Begin Rehab Next Week

(Arlington, TX)  --  The M's are getting some support, even though it's only of the moral variety for now.  Dee Gordon, who has been out since July 23rd with a left quad strain, will rejoin the team in Houston this weekend.  Manager Scott Servais said the second baseman is feeling much better than expected, and if everything goes according to plan, will go out on a short rehab assignment next week.

Seahawks Receive Good News Following Collier Injury

(Renton, WA)  --  In what could have been big-time bad news for the Seahawks will only be slightly bad.  First-round draft pick LJ Collier suffered a high-ankle sprain at practice Tuesday.  He was carted off after limping to the sideline.  He was taken with the 29th overall pick out of Texas Christian in April's draft.

Rays Have Cooled on M's Santana

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Tampa Bay Rays interest on M's outfielder Domingo Santana has apparently cooled, the Seattle Times is reporting.  The MLB trade deadline is at noon local time today.  Santana's potential elbow problems have scared off Tampa, according to reports. 

Jill Ellis Stepping Down As Coach Of US Women's National Soccer Team

(Undated)  --  U.S. Women's National Soccer Team coach Jill Ellis is announcing she will be stepping down from her position in October.  U.S. Soccer announced Ellis will continue to coach the team during the five-game victory tour, starting this Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California against Ireland.  Ellis is the first coach in history to win two women's World Cup titles.  The 52-year-old has an overall record of 102 wins, seven losses and 18 ties.  The organization says she will transition to the roll of an ambassador for the team for at least the next year.

Timbers Keeper Attinella Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will be without their backup keeper for the reason of the season. Jeff Attinella underwent surgery Monday to repair an anterior labrum tear in his right shoulder.  The 30 year old made 22 starts last season, helping Portland make a run to the MLS Cup Final.  He started 2019 as the starter, but has lost the position to Steve Clark.

Timbers Visit Minnesota United Saturday

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers will visit Allianz Field and the Wonderwall when they face Minnesota United Sunday.  Portland resoundingly beat the LA Galaxy 4-nil at Providence Park on Saturday.  Portland has 31 points and are in seventh in the West.  The Loons drew with Vancouver Saturday nil-nil.  They're fifth in the west with 35 points through 22 matches.

Trail Blazers Release Preseason Schedule

(Portland, OR)  --  The preseason will be fast and furious, with the Trail Blazers playing five games over 10 days.  They will open up against Denver at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on October 8th in a throwback game, kicking a yearlong celebration of the club's 50th anniversary in the league.  They will also face Maccabi Haifa, the Suns, The Jazz, and the Nuggets a second time.

Ducks, Beavers Prepare For Fall Camp

(Undated)  --  The two Pac-12 football teams will start practicing this week.  The Ducks open camp Friday in Eugene.  Oregon open the season against the Auburn Tigers in Arlington, Texas on August 31st.  Camp will open Thursday for the Beavers in Corvallis.  Oregon State will open the season August 30th at Reser Stadium against the Pokes of Oklahoma State.

M's Santana Garnering Interest on the Trade Market

(Arlington, TX)  --  At least one Mariner is drawing interest on the trade market.  The Indians and Rays are reportedly kicking the proverbial tires on outfielder Domingo Santana.  He has rebounded from a down year to hit .273 with 20 homers for the M's.  However, there could be an issue.  The Athletic reports the 26-year-old's right elbow has troubled him since the All-Star break and the team sought an MRI earlier in the week.

Mariners Face Rangers Tonight

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Mariners look to extend their five-game winning streak tonight in Arlington against the Rangers.  Mike Leake will take the ball in the first of the two-game set.  The right-hander, who has been subject to trade rumors, is 9-and-8 with a 4.25 ERA, winning his last two starts.  Texas will counter with Ariel Jurado, who is 6-and-6.

Storm Host Mystics Friday

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm return from the All-Star break Friday at home against the Mystics.  Seattle begins the second half of the season at 12-and-9.  The Storm are third in the Western Conference.

US Soccer Says They've Paid Women More Than Men Since 2010

(Chicago, IL)  --  After weeks of criticism, US Soccer is responding with a bombshell:  The women's national team players have made more than the men since 2010.  Federation President Carlos Cordeiro announced Monday the women's players were paid 34-million by the federation in salaries and bonuses between 2010 and 2018, while the men were paid 26-million dollars.  The number does not include monies paid by FIFA for World Cup bonuses, which would propel the men to 41-million-dollars while giving the women just an additional five-million.  These numbers do not include money from bonuses following the women's 2019 World Cup championship, but also the men did not receive a bonus for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as they did not qualify.

Timbers Blank Galaxy

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers got help across the board as they blanked the Galaxy 4-0 at home on Saturday.  Portland improves to 31 points on the season and has moved into seventh in the Western Conference.  The Timbers are currently in a playoff spot.  Portland will visit Minnesota United on Sunday.

Oregon Begins Preseason Camp Friday

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks will begin preseason camp on Friday.  The Ducks will embark on a series of practices as they get ready for the upcoming season.  The Ducks open the season against the Auburn Tigers in Arlington, Texas on August 31st.

Mariners Trade Negron To Dodgers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are shipping out utility man Kristopher Negron to the Dodgers, according to reports.  Seattle is expected to receive minor league infielder Daniel Castro in return.  Castro has played 98 games at the MLB level over his career.

Mariners Finish Sweep Of Tigers

(Seattle, WA)  --  J.P. Crawford singled in Dylan Moore in the 10th inning as the Mariners walked off the Tigers 3-2 at home to finish the four-game sweep.  Seattle improves to 46-and-63.  The Mariners will hit the road to visit the Rangers tomorrow.

Seahawks Agree To Extension With Bobby Wagner

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are keeping one of their pillars for the future.  Seattle and Bobby Wagner have agreed to a three-year extension, according to reports.  Wagner is expected to receive 54-million dollars over the life of his contract.  The linebacker has been a prominent figure in the defense since being drafted in 2012 and helped guide Seattle to its first Super Bowl.

Seahawks Continue Training Camp

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back on the practice field today.  Seattle is continuing to get ready for the upcoming preseason schedule and ultimately the regular season.  The Seahawks will open the preseason at home against the Broncos on August 8th.

Storm Host Mystics Friday

(Seattle, WA)  --  In WNBA action, the Storm will host the Mystics on Friday.  Seattle begins the post-All-Star break at 12-and-9.  The Storm are third in the Western Conference.

Seahawks Bringing Back DeShawn Shead

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are bringing a familiar face home.  Seattle has re-signed defensive back DeShawn Shead.  He spent last season with the Lions after spending 2012-2017 with the Seahawks.

The bipartisan agreement will suspend the U.S. debt ceiling until the middle of 2021, eliminating the risk that the government could miss payments as early as September, a move that would have severe economic ramifications. It will also likely push the annual budget deficit for the U.S. above $1T next year, while Congress agrees on the details of the annual budget in separate appropriations bills to avert the possibility of a U.S. government shutdown. Lawmakers further decided that no "poison pills" could be attached to that legislation, such as funding for a border wall with Mexico, or a demand for President Trump's tax returns. (SA)

 

Apple is in advanced talks to buy Intel's smartphone modem-chip business, in what could be a major push toward developing the critical components powering its devices. An agreement could value a portfolio of patents and staff at $1B or more and could come in the next week. For Intel's part, the deal would allow the company to shed its smartphone operation, which has been losing about $1B annually and has generally failed to live up to expectations. (WSJ)

 

Coca-Cola  reported quarterly earnings and revenue this morning that beat analysts’ expectations, driven by sales of its namesake soda brand.  Net sales rose 6% to $10.00 billion for the quarter. The company attributed its strong performance during the quarter to 4% volume and transaction growth in Coke’s namesake brand. Its Zero Sugar line once again saw double-digit volume growth across the globe.  (CNBC)

Amateur Baseball

The American Legion youth baseball State Playoffs got underway yesterday and the Medford Mustangs, the reigning 5-time defending State Champions, find themselves in a must-win situation today at 1pm in Corvallis against the Gerding Builders Marketmen.

Corvallis blanked Medford 3-zip last night to win game-1 of the best-of-3 Super Regional Playoff series. The Mustangs, 27-22, must win 2-games today to advance to the State Tournament that opens in Klamath Falls Saturday. 

Elsewhere in the Super Regionals playoff series, Roseburg lost 3-2 at Hillsboro, Salem edged Lakeridge, 6-5, and Willamette Valley-Springfield got by Newport, 4-1. The Super Regional playoffs in those matchups continues today, as well.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks enjoy a few days off for the Westcoast League All-Star break which the Elks are hosting the W-C-L All-Star game tonight at Vince Genna Stadium at 635pm.

This year’s rosters feature seven players from the Pac-12 Conference, six from the Big West Conference and five from the West Coast Conference. Among the Elks players selected to the All-Star game this evening are:
Infielder Zach Needham of Lewis-Clark State College, pitcher Ryan Kaser also of L-C State, and pitcher Gil Luna of Arizona is expected to get the start on the mound tonight.

The Elks have lost 10-straight, and is 2-and-10 in last place to start second-half play in the northern division of the Westcoast League. But, the Elks remain a top draw for fans in the league as they rank 5th averaging 12-hundred fans through 18-openings.

Timbers Permanently Acquire Conechny

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers have finalized the purchase of Tomas Conechny from Argentina team San Lorenzo.  Conechny originally joined the club on loan last July.  The original deal would have forced the club to make the 21-year-old a designated player, but the renegotiated deal does have such a clause.  Portland will welcome the Galaxy to town Saturday.

Pac-12 Media Day is Tomorrow

(Hollywood, CA)  --  The Pac-12 will host its Media Day tomorrow at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood, California.  Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal is set to speak at 9:30 a.m. while Oregon State's Jonathan Smith goes at 9:45 a.m..  Quarterback Justin Herbert and defensive linebacker Troy Dye will also be in attendance for the Ducks.  Running back Jemar Jefferson and wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins will make an appearance for the Beavers.

McCollum Withdraws From USA Team, Lillard On The Fence

(Undated)  --  Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum is withdrawing from USA Basketball training camp next month.  He was one of the 20 players invited to camp ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup.  He joins Anthony Davis, James Harden and Eric Gordon as players who have pulled out.  Meanwhile, teammate Damian Lillard is expected to decide in the coming days whether or not he'll participate.  The World Cup takes place August 31st through September 15th in China.

Pac-12 To Host Media Day Tomorrow

(Hollywood, CA)  --  The Pac-12 will host its Media Day tomorrow at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood, California.  Cougars head coach Mike Leach will take to the podium at 10:30 a.m., while Washington's Chris Petersen will speak at 10:45 a.m.

Nola, Seager Power Mariners Past Rangers

(Seattle, WA)  --  Austin Nola and Corey Seager homered as the Mariners beat the Rangers 7-3 at T-Mobile Park.  Mallex Smith had a pair of RBI while JP Crawford went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.  Marco Gonzales gave up two runs over seven innings to pick up his 12th win of the season.  The win snapped a two-game skid for the M's.  The teams meet again tonight.

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Storm are on the road tonight as they visit the Las Vegas Aces.  Seattle is looking to keep its hot streak going after winning four straight.  The Storm are second in the West at 12-and-8.

Seahawks Camp Opens Thursday

(Renton, WA)  --  Summer vacation is coming to an end.  The Seahawks will kick off training camp on Thursday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.  Every practice will be in Renton except for August 3rd, which will be at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell.

Seahawks Defensive Tackle Suspended Six Games

(Renton, WA)  --  Jarran Reed is suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the season for violating the personal-conduct policy.  The violation stems from a 2017 domestic incident in which he was accused of assault.  Reed was not charged or arrested.  The Seahawks defensive lineman is eligible to participate in practice and play in the preseason.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks finished up their 6-game road trip and could not scratch out a win during the week. Yesterday in Longview, Washington the Cowlitz Black Bears nipped the Elks, 4-3, handing Bend its 10th straight defeat. 

The Elks are off until Thursday for the Westcoast League All-Star game which they host for the first-time tomorrow night. 

Tonight at 7, it’s the league Home Run Derby featuring league-leader and former Summit standout Troy Viola who plays for the Bellingham Bells. Viola has hit 7 dingers this summer including two against the Elks last month. Gabe Gonzalez represents the Elks in the Derby which is FREE admission.  

Amateur Baseball

The American Legion youth baseball State Playoffs begin today with the Super Regionals best-of-three game series around the state in 4 cities.

Today are all first games in those series, and in Hillsboro, the Barbers host Roseburg Doc Stewarts, Salem entertains Lakeridge, Corvallis greets Medford, and in Springfield, the Willamette Valley Titans host Newport.

Mariners Demolished By Angels

(Seattle, WA)  --  Yusei Kikuchi gave up seven runs in five innings as the Mariners were demolished by the Angels in a 9-3 loss.  Smith doubled in the seventh to put Seattle on the board in the loss.  The M's drop to 20-and-31 at home.

Timbers Hold Off Sounders

(Renton, WA)  --  The Timbers were able to hold on as they defeated the Sounders 2-1 in Seattle.  Brian Fernandez scored both goals for Portland in the win.  The Timbers are ninth in the MLS West with 28 points in 21 matches.  Portland will host the LA Galaxy Saturday at Providence Park.

Edgar Martinez Enshrined In Baseball Hall Of Fame

(Cooperstown, NY)  --  Mariners legendary slugger Edgar Martinez was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday.  Martinez joined the likes of Mariano Rivera, the late Roy Halladay and others in Cooperstown.  He was a two-time American League batting champ during his career with the Mariners.

Thorns Visit Royals Tonight

(Sandy, UT)  --  The Thorns and Royals will battle in National Women's Soccer League action tonight.  Portland is second in the league with 22 points overall.  Utah is fifth with 17.

Timbers, Orlando City Draw

(Portland, OR)  --  Jeremy Ebobisse scored in the 82nd minute as the Timbers salvaged a 1-1 draw against visiting Orlando City.  Portland now has 25 points on the season.  The Timbers are ninth in the Western Conference, four points out of a playoff spot.  Portland plays at Seattle on Sunday.

Mariners Host Angels Tonight

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are back at home tonight hosting the Angels.  Seattle was swept by Los Angeles last weekend.  The M's have yet to win since the All-Star Break and are last in the AL West at 39-and-60, 17 games out of a wild card spot.

Oregon Football To Be Featured On College GameDay Week One

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Oregon Ducks' football team will be under the spotlight in Week One.  ESPN's College GameDay will be live from Arlington, Texas for the showdown between the Ducks and Auburn Tigers.  Oregon has big expectations heading into this year, as they return quarterback Justin Herbert along with several other talented players.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks veterans will report to training camp on Wednesday.  Rookies have already arrive in camp for Seattle.  The Seahawks will open the preseason against the Denver Broncos at home on August 8th.

Edgar Martinez To Be Inducted In Hall Of Fame Sunday

(Cooperstown, NY)  --  Mariners legend Edgar Martinez will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on Sunday.  Martinez played for Seattle from 1987 to 2004.  He made the All-Star Game seven times and was the AL batting champion twice in his career.  He received 85.4-percent of the vote to get in.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm welcome the Aces to town tonight.  Seattle is second in the Western Conference at 11-and-8.  Las Vegas is right ahead of the Storm in first place with an 11-and-5 record.

Seattle NHL Franchise Officially Names Ron Francis As GM

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle NHL Franchise has officially hired Ron Francis as its first general manager.  The hockey Hall of Famer has experience in the front office to go along with his illustrious career on the ice.  Francis was the general manager of the Hurricanes before eventually becoming the President of Hockey Operations.

Bend Elks Baseball

What a difference a night makes in the Westcoast Collegiate summer league. Tuesday night in Yakima, The Bend Elks started their 6-game road trip out with a 1-zip shutout loss to the Pippins.

Last night, both teams combined for 24-runs on 25-hits, and the teams used a total of 10-Pitcher combined, and again Yakima prevailed with the Pippins beating the Elks, 13-11.

And, each team committed 3-errors in the game.

Seahawks' Rookies Report To Camp

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks' rookies have reported to training camp.  The veterans will arrive next Wednesday.  The Seahawks will prepare for their first preseason game at home against the Broncos on August 8th.

Mariners Hammered By Athletics

(Oakland, CA)  --  Dylan Moore tripled in a run but the Mariners were pounded by the Athletics 10-2 in Oakland.  Tommy Milone took the loss in relief.  Seattle has dropped 13 of its last 15 games to fall to 39-and-60 on the season.  The Mariners host the Angels tomorrow.

Thorns Visit Utah Tomorrow

(Sandy, UT)  --  In National Women's Soccer League action, the Thorns visit Utah tonight.  The Thorns are second with 22 points.  Utah comes into the match with 17 points on the season.

Storm Roll Past Lynx

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Natasha Howard scored 33 points as the Storm rolled past the Lynx 90-79 in Minneapolis.  Seattle improved to 11-and-8 on the season.  The Storm host the first-place Las Vegas Aces tomorrow.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks are out on the road and started a 6-game road trip last night in Yakima, and the Pippins silenced the Elks with a 1-zip shutout win in the first game of a 3-game set in south central Washington.

Bend managed just three hits all night, and Yakima pitcher Tyler Frazer from the University of Oregon struck out 8 Elks hitters while only walking two in 7-innnings of work to up his record to 2-and-0. 

Bend ace Gil Luna suffered the loss to even his mark to 2-and-2 as he struck out 6, but walked six that led to one costly RBI single for the loss.

Mariners Blown Out By Athletics

(Oakland, CA)  --  Marco Gonzales gave up six runs in six innings as the Mariners were blown out by the A's 9-2 in Oakland.  Sam Tuivailala gave up two runs in an inning of work in his first game back after suffering an Achilles injury last season.  Omar Narváez homered twice to account for Seattle's two runs.  He finished 3-for-4, recording half of the M's six hits.  Seattle has dropped five in-a-row.

Hall Of Famer Francis To Helm NHL Team

(Seattle, WA)  --  A Hall of Famer and former Hurricanes general manager will lead the new team in Seattle.  Ron Francis will be announced this week as the first general manager of the incoming franchise.  Francis was a two-time Stanley Cup winner as a player for the Penguins.  Carolina failed to reach the playoffs during Francis' tenure.

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Storm visit the Minnesota Lynx tonight.  They're coming off a 78-69 win over the Liberty on Sunday.  After tonight, Seattle will return home to host Las Vegas Friday night.  The Storm are 10-and-8 on the season, two games behind the Aces in the West.

Mariners Call Up Pair, DFA Williamson

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Mariners promoted a pair from Triple-A Tacoma Tuesday, while designating another for assignment.  Right-hander Erik Swanson and utility man Kristopher Negron were promoted to Seattle while the team began the process of cutting ties with Mac Williamson.  The 29-year-old outfielder hit just .182 with three homers and 10 RBI in 25 games with Seattle.  The club leads the majors in players used this season with 53, as well as the most pitchers with 35 and relievers with 30.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks are out on the road to begin a 6-game trip starting tonight in Yakima facing the Pippins for the first time this summer. 

Yakima is 3-and-4 to begin the second half of Westcoast League play while Bend is 2-and-4. Yakima finished 4th place in the northern division in the first half of league play with an 11-and-15 mark, and Bend the same 4th place in the southern division with a 12-15 record. 

First pitch in Yakima is set for 635 and The Elks ace pitcher Gil Luna goes to the mound against the Pippins.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Maxwell Award watch list will be just one of many Justin Herbert finds himself on before the 2019 season starts.  The Oregon quarterback was among the 80 players named to the preseason award watch list, which is given to the college player of the year.  The senior was a semifinalist for the award last season. 

Timbers Host Orlando City Thursday

Storm Defeat Liberty

(Seattle, WA)  --  Crystal Langhorne scored 19 points as the Storm defeated the New York Liberty 78-69 at home.  The Storm improve to 10-and-8 on the season.  Seattle will visit the Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday.

Storm, WNBA Looking Into Abuse Allegations Against Natasha Howard

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm and the WNBA are looking into abuse allegations against Seattle All-Star Natasha Howard. Howard's wife posted a video on social media in which she is seen yelling about being allegedly threatened by the forward. Howard will continue to play for the Storm while the team and league investigate the matter.

Trail Blazers Fall To Thunder In Summer League

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  Gary Trent Junior scored 22 points but the Trail Blazers fell 92-87 to the Thunder in summer league action.  Portland drops to 1-and-3 in Las Vegas.  The Trail Blazers did not qualify for the summer league playoffs and will close out with a consolation game against the Bucks tonight.

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Trail Blazers will face the Thunder in summer league action in Las Vegas tonight.  The Trail Blazers are 1-and-2 through three games.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks have put together back-to-back wins on the road after dropping 4-straight heading out on the road, and tonight can sweep the 3-game series in Wenatchee.

Last night, hometown favorite Justin Parsons smashed a solo home run to cap the win in the 9th inning, after Parson scored stealing home plate on a double-steal in the 7th inning.

Bend jumped out to a early 2-zip lead in the opening inning on a Vinny Zavolta double, followed by Chase Fernlund’s RBI single.

Left-handed pitcher Gil Luna went 7-strong frames on the mound for the Elks striking out 12 Applesox hitters earning his second straight win against Wenatchee in a week. Luna beat the Applesox on the 5th at home fanning 9 batters that night. 

The Elks are 14-and-15 overall, but off to a 2-and-0 start to second-half play in the Westcoast League leading the Southern Division. Bend takes on the Applesox at 635 tonight online at Bend Elks dot Com.

 

In a related item, former Summit High star Troy Viola has elevated himself to be among the league leaders in the Westcoast League. Viola who plays for the Bellingham Bells out of San Jose State ranks 19th in hitting with a .298 average. 

Viola is 2nd in Home Runs with 5, and 2nd with 20-runs batted in. In fact, the Third-baseman and former State Champion Summit Storm player belted a 3-run homer against the Elks here in Bend back on June 23rd.

Timbers Clip LAFC In U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Jeremy Ebobisse scored in the 84th minute to lift the Timbers to a 1-0 win over LAFC in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal.  Portland advances to face Minnesota United in the semifinals next month.  The Timbers will resume MLS action when they host the Rapids on Saturday.

Blazers' Simons Injures Ankle Injury

(Portland, OR)  --  Blazers guard Anfernee Simons is nursing an ankle injury suffered in Summer League play.  He rolled his ankle in the final minute of the game.  Simons appeared in 20 games for the Blazers last season and scored 37 points in the regular season finale. 

Jazz Top Blazers In Vegas

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  Anfernee Simons posted 35 points but the Blazers fell to the Jazz 97-93 in Las Vegas.  Simons suffered an ankle injury in the final minute.  Gary Trent Jr. posted 12 points and eight rebounds in defeat.  The Blazers are 1-and-2 and face the Thunder tomorrow in Vegas. 

AL Wins MLB All-Star Game

(Cleveland, OH)  --  For the seventh season in a row, the American League is the winner of the MLB All-Star Game.  The AL earned a 4-3 win over the National League in Cleveland.  Mariners slugger Dan Vogelbach went 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance.  The Mariners return to action on Friday when they visit the L.A. Angels. 

Timbers At LAFC Tonight

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Portland Timbers seek an upset win as they visit first-place LAFC tonight.  This game is for the U.S. Open quarterfinals.  The Timbers are riding a two-game win streak, with both victories coming by shutout.  The Timbers return home to host the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers clash with the Utah Jazz in Summer League action this afternoon in Las Vegas.  The Blazers are 1-and-1 so far in Vegas after getting yesterday off.  Portland looks to repeat after winning the Las Vegas Summer League championship last year.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Portland Timbers head to Southern California tomorrow to clash with first-place LAFC.  The Timbers are ninth in the Western Conference with 23 points, while LAFC leads the entire MLS with 43 points.  The Timbers have won three of their past four games.

Blazers' Lillard Speaks On Offseason

(Portland, OR)  --  Blazers guard Damian Lillard believes the team is better than they were last season.  Lillard spoke with the press yesterday and talked about the team's offseason moves.  Portland acquired center Hassan Whiteside from Miami and re-signed Rodney Hood.  Players from last season's team that aren't returning include Al-Farouq Aminu, Moe Harkless, Seth Curry, Meyers Leonard and Enes Kanter. 

MLB All-Star Game Tonight

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The 2019 MLB All-Star Game gets going tonight in Cleveland at Progressive Field.  Mariners slugger Daniel Vogelbach will suit up for the American League.  He's batting .238 this season with 21 home runs and 51 RBI for Seattle. 
 

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks closed out a 6-game home stand last night at Vince Genna Stadium and head out on the road for a 3-game set tomorrow evening.

The Elks managed just one win during the 6-games, and lost last night to the Wenatchee Applesox, 4-2. Bend is 12-and-15 on the season nearly half-way through their schedule.

Trail Blazers Defeat Rockets In Las Vegas Summer League

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Trail Blazers have shaken off their sluggish Saturday start to the Las Vegas Summer League with a 97-87 win over Rockets.  Gary Trent Jr. and Anfernee Simons led the way for Portland in the win.  Trent scored a game-high 31 points on 10-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-8 from three-point range.  His 31 points were just shy of the Blazers' summer league record for most points in a game.  Simons finished with 16 points for Portland.  The Blazers will play next on Tuesday against the Utah Jazz.

Timbers Shut Out New York City FC

(The Bronx, NY)  --  The Timbers shut out New York City FC in a 1-0 victory at Yankee Stadium.  Sebastian Blanco scored the lone goal for Portland in the win.  The Timbers are ninth in the MLS West with 23 points in 17 matches.  They'll visit LAFC Wednesday in the US Open Cup quarterfinal.

Mariners Fall To Athletics In Final Home Game Before All-Star Break

(Seattle, WA)  --  Omar Narvaez homered twice but the Mariners couldn't close out the game as they were defeated 7-4 by the Athletics at T-Mobile Park.  Narvaez went four-for-four with four RBI for Seattle in the loss.  Matt Carasiti suffered the loss on the mound after giving up five runs in the first inning.  The M's drop to 19-and-29 at home and 39-and-55 overall.

U.S. Women Win Second-Straight World Cup

(Lyon, France)  --  The US Women made it back-to-back World Cup championships, beating the Netherlands 2-nil in Lyon, France.  Megan Rapinoe, who took home the Golden Ball and Golden Boot, gave the Americans a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute on a penalty kick.  Eight minutes later, Rose Lavelle extended it to 2-nil.  This is the fourth World Cup win for the U.S. women's team.

Storm Host Dallas Wings Friday

(Seattle, WA)  --  Storm will host the Dallas Wings Friday at the Alaska Airlines Arena.  Seattle is hoping for a win at home after dropping three of its last four at the arena.  The Storm are fourth in the West at 8-and-8.

M's Take Off For All-Star Break

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Mariners will have the next few days off as the league prepares for the All-Star Break.  First baseman Daniel Vogelbach is a reserve for the American League team.  The M's will resume the second half of the season Friday as they'll visit the Angels.

Anthony Tolliver Signs One-Year Deal With Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have officially signed free agent forward Anthony Tolliver to a one-year deal.  The deal is reportedly worth 2.6-million-dollars.  Tolliver most recently played for the Timberwolves where he posted averages of five points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 65 games this past season.

Bend Elks Baseball

The Bend Elks returned home to Westcoast League play last night and it was just one of those nights on the diamond where Bend pitchers would strike out 13 hitters, with just one error on the evening, and still lose. 

And, lose big the Elks did as the Ridgefield Raptors took game-1 of a 3-game series, 14-to-3.

However, 4 Bend pitchers did combine to walk 11-batters, and give up three untimely extra base hits along with 4 RBI singles and that doomed the Elks in their return home to start a 6-game home stint.

Bend is 10-and-12 overall, and will bounce back tonight to redeem themselves against the Raptors at 6:35 for Free Kids Wednesday night, where kids are admitted free with one paid adult.

Timbers Sign Giovanni Savarese To Head Coach

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers have signed head coach Giovanni Savarese and his coaching staff to multiyear contract extensions.  Savarese joined the Timbers ahead of the 2018 season after the departure of former coach Caleb Porter.  Under Savarese, the Timbers got off to a rocky start this season, losing five games straight.  Portland is 8-3-and-1 over its last 12 games.

Leake Gets Start In Game Two Against Cardinals

(Seattle, WA)  --  Mike Leake will get the start for the Mariners today as they host the Cardinals in the second of their three-game series.  St. Louis will send Adam Wainwright to the mound.  The M's are 10-and-a-half games out of a wild card spot in the American League.

Mariners Storm Past Cardinals

(Seattle, WA)  --  Tim Beckham hit a pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning to lift the Mariners to a 5-4 victory over the Cardinals in Seattle.  Omar Narvaez also homered for Seattle, which snapped a four-game skid.  The M's are last in the AL West at 38-and-51.

Seth Curry Agrees To Deal With Dallas Mavericks

(Dallas, TX)  --  Seth Curry is returning to Dallas as a free agent after a year away.  The Mavericks have agreed on a $32 million, four-year contract with the shooting guard.  The younger Curry had the best season of his career with Dallas in 2016-17, averaging career highs of 12.8 points, 2.7 assists and 29 minutes per game.  He missed all of 2017-18 with a stress reaction in his lower left leg before joining Portland on a one-year contract last season. 

Trail Blazers Trade For Hassan Whiteside

(Portland, OR)  --  Hassan Whiteside will be heading to the Trail Blazers after a three-way trade with the Heat and the Sixers.  The move is centered around bringing Jimmy Butler to Miami where he will sign a max contract while Portland has jumped in on the deal to acquire Whiteside.  In the deal, Portland sends Meyers Leonard to the Heat and Moe Harkless to the Clippers.  Whiteside is entering the final year of his four-year, $98 million deal.

Trail Blazers Sign Nassir Little

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers have signed rookie forward Nassir Little.  Little was projected by many to be a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA draft but went 25th in the draft as Portland's pick.  The terms of Little's contract have not been released yet, but the website Spotrac, which tracks pro sports contracts, listed the cap hold on Little for the 2019-20 season at $2.1 million.  The 19-year-old averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in his lone season at North Carolina.

Enes Kanter To Join Celtics

(Boston, MA)  --  Free agent center Enes Kanter is set to join the Boston Celtics on a 2-year, $10 million deal.  Kanter was acquired by the Trail Blazers in February after he parted with the New York Knicks in a buyout.  The 27-year-old averaged 13.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in the 2018-19 season.

Mario Hezonja Agrees To Deal with Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR)  --  Free agent forward Mario Hezonja has agreed to a one-year minimum deal with the Trail Blazers.  Heznoja was courted by Portland last summer before signing a one-year deal with the New York Knicks.  Hezonja is a four-year veteran, spending his first three seasons with the Orlando Magic.  He averaged 8.8 ppg and 4.1 rpg in 58 games with the Knicks last season.

Report: Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard agree to four-year extension

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers will be locking up star point guard Damian Lillard to a supermax extension, according to multiple reports.  The deal will be worth 196-million-dollars over four years.  The extension will kick in during the 2021-22 season.  Lillard earned All-NBA second team honors this season, which made him eligible for the supermax.  The point guard has made four NBA All-Star Games and led Portland to the Western Conference Finals this past season.

Timbers Shut Out FC Dallas

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers defeated FC Dallas in a 1-nil victory at Providence Park.  Brian Fernandez scored the only goal of the match for Portland in the win.  The Timbers improve to ninth in the MLS West with 20 points in 16 matches.  Portland will visit New York City FC Sunday.

Rodney Hood Re-Signs With Blazers On Two-Year Deal

(Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers' guard/forward Rodney Hood has re-signed with the team on a two-year deal.  Hood's deal is worth $5.7 million for the first season - which would use all of Portland's taxpayer mid-level exception - with a player option worth $6 million for the second year.  The guard, acquired by the Blazers at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaged 9.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 27 games with Portland.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Sami Whitcomb put up 13 points and six rebounds as the Storm were defeated 69-67 at the Alaska Airlines Arena.  Mercedes Russell and Alysha Clark added 12 points apiece for Seattle in the loss.  The Storm are tied for first in the West with the Las Vegas Aces.
