(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers quarterback competition has been settled.  Sam Noyer was named Oregon State's starting quarterback.  Noyer, a Beaverton native, transfered to Oregon State this offseason after starting for Colorado last year.  He will start for the Beavers against Purdue this Saturday.  Chance Nolan will be the team's backup.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Los Angeles Angels won't be sending Shohei Ohtani to the mound this week.  The two-way superstar is skipping his scheduled start as he gives his right hand some extra time to heal.  Ohtani was hit in his pitching hand during the Angels' game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday.  The Athletic reported the X-Rays on his hand came back negative, but Ohtani will still miss the start.  The injury didn't affect his ability to hit as he remains in the starting lineup and hit a home run against the New York Yankees on Monday. 

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Rajon Rondo is returning to the team that delivered him a second NBA title.  ESPN reports the veteran guard is signing a one-year, 2.6 million-dollar deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.  Rondo spent last season with the Hawks and Clippers, before getting traded to the Grizzlies this offseason.  He agreed to a contract buyout with Memphis on Saturday, clearing the way for him to return to Los Angeles.  The 35-year-old is the fifth former player to return to the Lakers this offseason.

(Undated)  --  The NFL Players Association is agreeing to the NFL's proposal to test fully vaccinated players more often.  Fully vaccinated players will now be tested once every seven days, compared to once every 14 days under the old protocols.  Unvaccinated players will continue to be tested daily.  The new rules also mean that players who are not fully vaccinated will have to wear masks indoors and that some fully vaccinated players will have to wear masks inside.  Partially vaccinated players made up 93% of NFL training camp rosters as of last week.  

(Flushing, NY)  --  The US Open is officially underway as the best tennis players in the world compete in New York.  On the men's side, top-seeded American John Isner was upset in the First Round by fellow American Brandon Nakashima.  Third-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas [[ seet-see-paas ]] survived a five-set thriller against former US Open champion Andy Murray to advance.  On the women's side, 17-year-old Coco Gauff shook off a slow start to beat Magda Linette in three sets.  She will next square off with Sloane Stephens, who defeated Madison Keys, in the Second Round.  Jennifer Brady, who was the top-seeded American woman, withdrew from the tournament due to an undisclosed injury.  

(Undated)  --  Disturbing details are emerging about an alleged fake high school football program that played on ESPN last Sunday.  Alleged online charter school Bishop Sycamore squared off against high school powerhouse IMG Academy out of Bradenton, Florida on national television.  The school was thoroughly embarrassed 58-0 in defeat.  Since the loss, details have emerged from Complex that the program and school never existed and also played twice in three days.  There are also reports the coach has an active arrest warrant and former players comprised of JUCO dropouts who slept on the floors of hotels.  ESPN has said it did not schedule the game but rather the Paragon Marketing Group.
 

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Timbers topped the Sounders 2-0 in Seattle in Sunday's edition of the Cascadia rivalry.  Portland's Sebastián Blanco scored at the 58th minute and Felipe Mora scored in stoppage time.  The Sounders still lead the MLS Western Conference with 42 points while the Timbers moved up to sixth place in the conference with 27 points.

(Cumberland, GA)  --  The Giants' bats went quiet as they fell 9-0 to the Braves in Atlanta.  San Francisco went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position to drop its second in its last three.  Anthony DeSclafani's return from the IL didn't go accordingly as he exited with a Giants trainer in the fourth after allowing three runs in his three innings.  The loss is DeSclafani's sixth on the year.  The Giants still lead the NL West by two-and-a-half games.  They host the Brewers for a series starting tonight.  

(Flushing, NY)  --  There are some notable faces missing from this year's US Open tournament.  For the first time since 2000, a Grand Slam will not feature Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Serena Williams as all three are sidelined with injuries.  On the men's side, that may give Novak Djokovic a chance to complete the first men's calendar-year Grand Slam since Rod Laver did it in 1969.  Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas round out the top-three seeds in the draw.  On the women's side, defending US Open champ Naomi Osaka is competing in her first major since the French Open earlier this year. She'll have to dethrone top-seeded Ashleigh Barty to take her third US Open title.

(Undated)  --  The college football season is officially underway.  UCLA kicked off the Pac-12 slate, beating Hawaii 44-10 in the Rose Bowl on Saturday.  Fresno State followed suite, crushing UConn 45-0 to start the season on a high note.  San Jose State was also victorious with a 45-14 win over Southern Utah.  The rest of collegiate teams will get their seasons started on Saturday. Oregon hosts Fresno State.  Pre-game at 9:00 a.m. on KBND.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Tony Kemp played the hero as the Athletics beat the Yankees 3-1 Sunday night in Oakland.  Kemp mashed a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth to push Oakland to its second straight win.  Josh Harrison and Yan Gomes each added a pair of hits.  Paul Blackburn tossed five scoreless frames to take a no-decision.  Deolis Guerra got his second win in relief, while Andrew Chafin locked down his second save of the year.  Giancarlo Stanton had two hits for New York, which has lost back-to-back games.  Chad Green was charged his sixth loss, allowing runs in relief.  
 

(Owings Mills, MD) -- Patrick Cantlay was awarded the BMW Championship after a six-hole playoff that saw Bryson DeChambeau miss an eight-foot putt on the 18th hole.  Cantlay earned his fifth career PGA Tour victory and is the only player on tour with three wins this season.  Cantlay will begin the final leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs with a score of 10-under for a two-shot advantage over Tony Finau and three shots over DeChambeau.  The top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for the 15-million-dollar grand prize at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the Tour Championship.
 

(San Francisco, CA)  --  It doesn't look like fans will get an Oregon vs. Oklahoma State conference matchup in the near future.  The Pac-12 announced Thursday that it will not pursue expansion "at this time".  ESPN reports that the Pac-12's expansion working group recognized the opportunity to have a presence in more markets, but the group came to the decision that the alliance would help the conference expand its brand.  Choosing not to expand also means the conference schools would not have to split revenue with more programs.  Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff said stability is the most important thing right now, saying "The quicker the stability, the better". 

(Flushing, NY)  --  Darin Ruf hit a go-ahead single in the eighth to push the Giants past the Mets 3-2, sweeping the three-game series.  San Francisco third baseman Kris Bryant cranked a two-run shot for his 24th of the year to give the Giants an early lead.  San Francisco has won five straight and starts a road series with the Braves this afternoon. 

(New York, NY)  --  Vaccinated NFL players may be getting tested for COVID-19 more often than they expected to.  The league is proposing to shorten testing for vaccinated players from once every 14 days to once every seven days.  Non-vaccinated players are already required to be tested daily.  The proposal needs approval from the NFL Players Association, which is calling for all players to be tested daily, no matter their vaccination status.  According to NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills, nearly 93 percent of NFL players are at least partially vaccinated. 

(Undated)  --  It's time to say goodbye to an old friend.  The NFL will wrap up its preseason starting tonight as the third week of exhibition games get underway.  Tomorrow, the Rams are in the Mile High city, taking on the Broncos in Denver.  Elsewhere, the Chargers take on the Seahawks in Seattle as the team sits a number of starters before their season opener on September 12th.  On Sunday, the Raiders and 49ers square off in Santa Clara, with questions remaining as to who will be the Week One starting quarterback for San Francisco.  
 

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Athletics battled back from a six-run deficit, but lost 7-6 to the Yankees in Oakland.  Matt Chapman and Sean Murphy sparked the comeback in the third with a pair of solo homers.  Josh Harrison capped it with a game-tying solo shot in the fifth.  Things stayed even until Lou Trivino allowed a run in ninth to suffer his seventh loss.  Oakland has lost five straight and continues the series tonight. 

(Undated)  --  It's time to kick off the 2021 college football season.  A limited slate of games will open Week One on Saturday.  Fresno State will host UConn, UCLA plays host to Hawaii and Southern Utah is at San Jose State.  The rest of college football will resume Week One starting September 1st, leading into next weekend's massive slate of games, including number-five Georgia taking on number-two Clemson. 

(Portland, OR)  --  The Blazers announced yesterday that they will require proof of vaccination at events.  This new rule also applies to other events at the Rose Quarter, including concerts and Winterhawks games.  People can also show a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of an event at the Rose Quarter

(San Diego, CA)  --  AJ Pollock came through in the 16th inning as the Dodgers defeated the Padres 5-3 in extras in San Diego.  The two teams were locked at 1-1 through 14 innings, before each scored two runs in the 15th.  Billy McKinney and Trea Turner each had an extra inning RBI for Los Angeles, which has won two straight.  Will Smith added a solo homer in the eighth.  Corey Knebel picked up his third win in relief, with Shane Greene locking down his first save. The Dodgers wrap up the series with San Diego tonght.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The Athletics are back in action, welcoming the Yankees to Bay Area tonight.  Oakland has struggled as of late, getting swept by the Mariners and losing eight of its last 10.  They send James Kaprielian to the mound for the series opener.  The right-hander owns a 7-and-4 record with a 3.25 E-R-A.  Opposite him is Jameson Taillon for New York.  He sports an 8-and-4 record with a 3.94 earned run average.  

(Flushing, NY) -- Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth down by one, the Mets were unable to bring the tying run home as they fell to the Giants 3-2.  San Francisco trailed New York heading into the seventh inning before Brandon Crawford roped a two-run double to give the Giants the lead.  Tony Watson earned the victory for San Francisco and Jake McGee closed out the game for his 29th save of the season.  The Giants extended their winning streak to four games and continue the series today.  

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Angels were on the wrong side of history as they lost 10-6 to the Orioles in Baltimore.  Los Angeles failed to extend Baltimore's league-leading losing streak, which was at 19 games.  Brandon Marsh homered and drove in five runs for the Angels, who have lost four of their last five.  Shohei Ohtani surrendered four runs on three homers in five frames of action.  Jake Petricka was tagged with his first loss in relief.  The Angels continue the series today. 

(Santa Clara, CA)  --  49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan isn't ready to name his starting quarterback just yet.  Shanahan did say Wednesday that he has a good idea who will be under center Week One.  Jimmy Garoppolo, who appears in line to start as he enters his fifth season with the 49ers, also said Wednesday he has a "pretty good idea" who will start but will let Shanahan make the call.  The Niners open the season September 12th at the Detroit Lions.

(Undated)  --  The Huskies, Cougars, Ducks and Beavers may have some more exciting non-conference games in the future.  The Big Ten, Pac-12, and ACC are releasing some details of their new alliance.  It includes scheduling opportunities between the conferences for football in addition to men's and women's basketball.  It'll also explore opportunities for Olympic sports to play more often.  The alliance came after Texas and Oklahoma announced a move to the SEC from the Big 12.  The agreement will not take effect for several years.

(San Diego, CA)  --  Julio Urias was strong on the mound as the Dodgers beat the Padres 5-2 in San Diego.  The southpaw allowed only one hit over five scoreless frames to pick up his MLB-leading 14th win.  Will Smith hit his 19th homer of the year, while AJ Pollock added a pair of RBI.  Kenley Jansen locked down his 28th save as the Dodgers won their 14th in their last 16 games.  The Dodgers continue the series with San Diego tonight.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Chris Flexen never let the A's get comfortable in the Mariners 5-1 win over Oakland in the Bay Area.  Flexen tossed five strikeouts and allowed one run over six-and-two-thirds innings to earn the win for Seattle.  Jarred Kelenic drove in two runs, and Luis Torrens and Dylan Moore each hit RBI singles.  The Mariners are now just one game behind Oakland in the AL Wild Card race and are three games behind the Red Sox for the second Wild Card spot.  Seattle is off today before starting a four-game home series against the Royals tomorrow night.

(Flushing, NY)  --  Brandon Belt had four hits as the Giants blanked the Mets 8-0 in New York.  Belt homered twice and drove in three runs to lead San Francisco, which has won three straight.  Mike Yastrzemski and LaMonte Wade Jr. each clubbed two-run homers.  Sammy Long picked up his second win, tossing five-and-a-third scoreless frames.  The Giants' staff combined to allow only five hits.  They continue the series with New York this afternoon.  

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Angels did not go easy on the lowly Orioles as they smoked Baltimore 14-8 at Camden Yards.  Jo Adell drove in four runs, Juan Lagares plated three runs and David Fletcher, Brandon Marsh and Jose Iglesias each had two RBI.  Junior Guerra picked up the win out of the bullpen for Los Angeles, which ended a three-game losing skid.  They continue the series with the Orioles this afternoon.

(Oakland, CA)  --  The American Wild Card standings are getting interesting.  The Mariners scored three runs in the ninth inning to come back from a 3-2 deficit and beat the A's 5-3 in Oakland.  Ty France launched a solo homer in the ninth inning and Jake Bauers hit a go-ahead two-RBI single in the ninth to cap the comeback win.  Mitch Haniger put Seattle on the board with a two-run blast in the sixth.  Marco Gonzales gave up three runs in six innings for Seattle.  The Mariners are now two games behind Oakland in the AL Wild Card race and are three games behind the Red Sox for the second Wild Card spot.  The series wraps up this afternoon. 

(Williamsport, PA) - It's Do-or-Die later today for Lake Oswego.  They are facing an elimination game in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  Oregon lost yesterday 3-Nothing to South Dakota.  Lake Oswego is down but not out and could win two elimination games to make the championship.  Today at 4:30, Lake Oswego tangles with New Hampshire; you can see that game on ESPN.

(Undated)  --  The allied powers are forming in college football.  The Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC are reportedly set to form a landmark alliance on Tuesday.  The announcement is expected to address non-conference scheduling as well as College Football Playoff expansion among other items.  The expected-to-be announced alliance comes on the heels of Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC.

(Baltimore, MD)  --  The Angels are heading East to play the team with the worst record in baseball, the Orioles.  Los Angeles suffered a three-game sweep in its last series against the Indians, though Baltimore has lost a league-high 18 straight games.  The Angels send Dylan Bundy to the mound for the series opener.  The righty has a 2-and-9 record with a 6.04 E-R-A.  Opposite him is Spenser Watkins for the Orioles.  He owns a 2-and-5 record with a 5.63 earned run average.  

(San Diego, CA)  --  The Dodgers are inching closer to first place in the NL West as they travel to San Diego to face the Padres tonight.  Los Angeles has won nine of its last 10 and sits two-and-a-half games behind the Giants in the division.  They send Julio Urias to the hill for the series opener.  The southpaw carries a 13-and-3 record with a 3.29 earned run average.  The Padres have yet to announce a starter for tonight. 

(Flushing, NY)  --  The NL-leaders are on the road today starting a series with the Mets in New York.  The Giants have won seven of their last 10 and come off a series win over the A's.  They send Sammy Long to the hill for the opener.  The lefty has a 1-and-1 record with a 5.72 E-R-A.  Opposite him is Tylor Megill for New York.  He carries a 1-and-2 record with a 3.21 earned run average this year.  

(Houston, TX)  --  The Mariners didn't score for the first seven innings against Houston but still found a way to win.  The Mariners defeated the Astros 6-3 in 11 innings in Houston.  Down 2-nothing, JP Crawford hit an RBI double in the eighth and Ty France knotted the game up with a solo homer in the top of the ninth.  France struck again in the 11th with an RBI single and Kyle Seager blew it open with a three-run homer.  Tyler Anderson allowed two runs in five-and-one-third innings and Paul Sewald got the win out of the bullpen.  Seattle starts a two-game road series against the A's tonight.

(Austin, TX)  --  The Timbers weren't able to pick up any points this weekend.  Portland lost to Austin FC 3-1 in Texas on Saturday.  Dairon Asprilla scored the Timbers only goal in the 55th minute.  Portland is now eighth in the MLS Western Conference with 24 points.

(Williamsport, PA)  --  The Angels struggled at the plate as they lost 3-0 to the Indians in the MLB Little League Classic.  Los Angeles combined for only four hits, with Shohei Ohtani recording a hit and two walks.  Jose Suarez was charged his seventh loss, allowing three runs over four innings.  The Angels have lost three straight and start a road series with the Orioles tomorrow afternoon. 

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Cody Bellinger batted in a pair of runs as the Dodgers lost the Mets 7-2 in Los Angeles.  Bellinger was the lone source of offense for Los Angeles, which had a nine-game winning streak snapped.  David Price took his second loss, allowing three runs over four frames.  The Dodgers bullpen struggled, surrendering four runs in the final three innings.  The Dodgers hit the road to start a series with the Padres tomorrow night.  

(Jersey City, NJ)  --  Hurricane Henri is starting to have ramifications on the sports world.  As the storm makes its way up the Eastern seaboard, it will cause a delay in the Northern Trust golf tournament, postponing today's fourth and final round to Monday.  The tournament, which is being played at Liberty National in Jersey City, New Jersey, and is in the projected path of the storm.  PGA Tour officials said they will explore the possibility of extending play into Tuesday, if necessary.  However, the next event, the BMW Championship, will begin on Thursday in Owings Mills, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore.
 

(Toronto, Canada)  --  Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is 28th player in Major League Baseball history to hit 500 home runs.  Cabrera reached the milestone in the top of the sixth inning off of Blue Jays' pitcher Steven Matz in Toronto.  The 2012 Triple Crown winner is now 46 hits away from reaching the milestone of three-thousand hits.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Pinch-hitter Donovan Solano slammed a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth to lead San Francisco to a 2-1 win over Oakland.  Dominic Leone earned his third win of the year relieving Logan Webb, who gave up just a run in his six innings of work.  Jake McGee worked around a Josh Harrison double in the bottom of the ninth to secure his 28th save of the year.  The Giants are now two-and-a-half games up on the Dodgers for the NL West lead.  Mark Canha had broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with an RBI single for the A's, before A.J. Puk gave up Solano's two-run home run and was charged with the loss.  Oakland is now tied with the Red Sox for the final AL Wild Card spot.

(Brooklyn, MI)  --  Ryan Blaney's number 12 car was the first to cross the finish line in the Fire Keepers Casino 400 at the Michigan International Speedway.  Blaney started the race in the three spot but was able to get first place.  Kyle Larson, who started in the first spot, finished in third and William Byron came in second place.  Kurt Busch finished fourth and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.  The NASCAR Cup Series moves to Daytona on Saturday.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks will be back on the gridiron tomorrow night.  Seattle plays the Denver Broncos at Lumen Field.  This is the first chance for fans to see the Seahawks play a home game in-person since before the COVID-19 pandemic.  Seattle also seeks its first win in the NFL preseason.

(Brooklyn, MI)  --  High speeds and gripping tension will be in store Sunday, as NASCAR's Cup Series heads to Michigan.  A week after calamity led to a high stakes ending in Indianapolis, AJ Allmendinger will look to build off his win.  Kyle Larson will be on the pole while Chase Elliott will join him up front.  Ryan Blaney will start third.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Dodgers kept things rolling as they beat the Mets 4-1 in Los Angeles.  Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI, with Billy McKinney adding an RBI double.  Evan Phillips picked up his first win and Blake Treinen secured his fourth save.  Los Angeles has won seven straight and now sit two-and-half games back of first place in the NL West.  They continue the series with New York tonight. 

(Undated)  --  The sports trading card world is watching the end of an era.  MLB is ending it's 70-year deal with trading card giant Topps.  Instead, the MLB and Fanatics are striking an exclusive licensing agreement.  Topps' deal with Major League Baseball will wrap up in 2025.  The company first began producing baseball cards in 1951.  Fanatics' deal with the MLB is expected to generate over two billion dollars by 2045.

(Jersey City, NJ)  --  Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm fired matching 63s at the opening round of the Northern Trust at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.  The duo both shot eight-under to lead by three strokes over Harold Varner the Third in the first FedEx playoff event of the season.  Adam Scott and Kevin Na lead a group four-strokes back at four-under.

(Kansas City, KS)  --  The Timbers gained a point after a draw with Sporting Kansas City last night.  Portland drew Kansas City 1-1 in Kansas City, Kansas.  Felipe Mora scored for the Timbers.  Portland remains in seventh place in the MLS Western Conference with 24 points.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The A's struggles are piling up as they fell 3-2 to the White Sox in Chicago.  Seth Brown went deep for Oakland, which lost its fourth straight and fifth in the last six games.  Paul Blackburn was charged his first loss, allowing three runs in five-and-one-third frames.  The A's look to avoid the sweep today in the series finale. 

(San Francisco, CA)  --  The Giants took it to extras, but lost 6-2 to the Mets in 12 innings in San Francisco.  LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a RBI double in the third and Tommy La Stella added a RBI single in the 11th.  Tyler Chatwood took his third loss in relief as San Francisco had a three-game winning streak snapped.  The Giants start a road series with the A's tomorrow night. 

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  Diamondbacks reliever Caleb Smith is the latest pitcher in Major League Baseball to be ejected for a suspected foreign substance.  Smith was ejected in the eighth inning of Arizona's game against the Phillies in Phoenix.  All four umpires spent time examining the glove before ejecting the pitcher.  The D'backs reliever would then have to be restrained as he grew angry over the decision.  Smith is the second pitcher to be ejected under the MLB's latest substance ban.  Seattle's Hector Santiago was ejected and suspended 10 games earlier in the season.  Crew chief Tom Hallion was responsible for both ejections.  

(Undated)  --  The second week of the NFL preseason gets underway tonight.  The action and excitement will return to the gridiron as the Eagles host the Patriots at The Linc in Philadelphia.  It will be another opportunity for fans to get a look at Mac Jones after his dazzling debut against Washington last week. Tomorrow, the Chiefs will visit the Cardinals as Kyler Murray is expected to make his first start of the preseason for Arizona.  Elsewhere this weekend, Justin Fields will get another chance to wow the football world as he and the Bears get ready to face the Bills.  Zach Wilson and the Jets will travel to Lambeau to take on the Packers, the Cowboys and Texans will meet in Arlington, and the Raiders visit the Rams.

(Detroit, MI)  --  Shohei Ohtani put on a display of brilliance as the Angels beat the Tigers 3-1 in Detroit.  The two-way star dazzled on the mound, going a season-high eight innings and racking up eight strikeouts.  He allowed only six hits and one run to earn his eighth win of the year.  Ohtani also added his MLB-leading 40th homer with a solo shot in the ninth.  He's batting .269 at the plate this season and carries a 2.79 earned run average on the mound.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Runs were hard to come by as the Athletics were blanked by the White Sox 9-0 in Chicago.  A's starter Chris Bassitt exited the game in the second inning after getting hit in the head by a line drive.  Burch Smith relieved him and allowed five runs in three innings.  Starling Marte reached base twice with a single and a walk.  Oakland has dropped three straight and continues the series tonight.   

(Arlington, TX)  --  Tyler Anderson stymied the Rangers offense in a 3-1 Mariners win in Texas.  Anderson gave up one run on three hits over six innings to get the win.  Ty France and Mitch Haniger each hit sacrifice flys and Luis Torrens added a solo homer in the ninth inning for an insurance score.  The series continues tonight.

(Renton, WA)  --  Jamal Adams' contract standoff with the Seahawks has come to an end.  The NFL Network is reporting that the Seahawks signed Adams to a four-year deal worth 70 million dollars.  The new contract pays Adams an average of 17-point-5 million dollars per year, making him the NFL's highest-paid safety.  The 25-year-old Adams will get 38 million guaranteed.  Adams had nine-and-a-half sacks for Seattle last season. 

(Undated)  --  The NHL is emulating professional soccer and the NBA when it comes to advertisements.  ESPN is reporting that NHL teams will have ad patches on the front of their jerseys starting in the 2022-23 season.  The ads be a 3-inch-by-3.5-inch rectangle on the jersey, which is slightly larger than the space on NBA uniforms for ads.  The NHL board of governors voted this month to approve the jersey advertisements.

(Bronx, NY)  --  Justin Upton homered as the Angels fell 2-1 to the Yankees in the Bronx.  The left fielder mashed his 16th homer of the year, with a solo shot in the first.  Los Angeles was held to three hits as it lost its third in the last four.  Jose Suarez took his sixth loss, allowing two runs over five innings.  The Angels continue their road trip playing the Tigers today in Detroit.  

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Max Muncy keeps belting homers as the Dodgers got past the Pirates 2-1 at home.  Muncy clubbed his third homer in two days with his go-ahead solo bomb in the eighth.  Billy McKinney also went deep for Los Angeles, which has won four straight.  Blake Treinen picked up his third win in relief, with Kenley Jansen locking down his 24th save.  The Dodgers continue the series with Pittsburgh tonight.  

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Mariners are back in action tonight against the Rangers.  It's the first game of a three-game road series against Texas.  Seattle is sending left-hander Tyler Anderson to the mound tonight.  Anderson has a 3.45 E-R-A in three starts with the Mariners after he was acquired from Pittsburgh just before the trade deadline.  The Rangers will start Spencer Howard.

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Athletics allowed the White Sox to score five unanswered runs as they fell 5-2 in Chicago.  Matt Chapman went deep for the A's, with a solo shot in the second.  Frankie Montas allowed three runs over five innings to take the loss for Oakland, which has lost three of four.  The A's continue the series tonight. 

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Kris Bryant went yard twice in the Giants 7-5 win over the Mets in San Francisco.  The former Cubs star hit a two-run bomb in the fifth inning and added a solo shot in the seventh.  Brandon Crawford went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Wilmer Flores had two hits and drove in a run.  Kevin Gausman posted seven strikeouts and three earned runs in five innings to get the win for San Francisco, which has won eight of nine.  The Giants continue the series tonight.  

(Undated)  --  A 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card is exchanging hands for a pretty penny.  The card was recently sold at an auction for six-point-six million dollars, breaking the record for most expensive sports card of all time.  That breaks the record of five-point-two million set in January by a 1952 Mickey Mantle card and in April by a LeBron James rookie jersey card.  It is believed there are only about 60 of these Honus Wagner cards known to exist because the former Pittsburgh Pirate asked for his card to be removed from the 1909 through 1911 print runs. 

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  Fans wishing to attend a Raiders game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas this season will need to get the COVID-19 vaccine.  The Raiders have announced that proof of vaccination through CLEAR mobile app will be required to attend games.  Fans with proof will be able to attend games without a mask.  The policy will go into effect for Week One when the Raiders host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, September 13th.  It's a landmark decision across the NFL as Las Vegas becomes the first team with a vaccination policy.

On the summer collegiate amateur diamond in the Westcoast League playoffs, the Corvallis Knights punched their ticket to the championship series for a league record 12th time, and will try to win their fifth straight title.

Last night at Goss Stadium-Coleman Field on the campus of Oregon State, the 7-time champion Knights blanked the Ridgefield Raptors, 9-to-nothing to claim the Southern Division playoff series, 2-games to none.

Corvallis improves to 39-and-11 overall.

Meantime, in the Northern Division series playoff, last night in Yakima, the host Pippins evened the series at one game each with its 6-3 win over the Bellingham Bells.

Yakima, 30-20, and Bellingham 25-25, will play the deciding third game of that series this evening at 7 in Yakima again with the winner meeting Corvallis for the Westcoast League Championship series set to begin on Wednesday night.

Yakima is looking to make its first ever title series appearance, while Bellingham aims for its 4th championship series. The Bells won the league crown in 2014.

In Shelby, North Carolina, the site of the American Legion Youth Baseball World Series, there are 4 teams alive entering the semifinals today including the Idaho Falls Bandits.

The Bandits won the national championship in 2019, and saw its game with Massachussetts last night postponed because of rain leading 2-to-1 in the first inning.

They will resume that game morning.

Dubuque, Iowa and Ridge, Maryland are the other two teams still in the mix for the national pennant.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Sounders never eased off the gas pedal in their 6-2 win over the Timbers in Portland.  Fredy Montero and Raúl Ruidíaz each scored twice for Seattle and Jimmy Medranda and Nicolas Benezet [[ben-eh-ZAY]] added goals as well.  Sebastián Blanco and George Fochive scored for Portland.  The Sounders have 36 points in the MLS standings and the Timbers have 23 points.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland signed rookie forward Greg Brown III to a contract.  The 19-year-old Brown was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2021 draft, but his draft rights were traded to the Blazers.  The 6-foot-9 Brown averaged 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season with the Texas Longhorns.

(Undated)  --  As the regular season comes to an end, a young face is at the top of the FedEx Cup standings.  Collin Morikawa, the winner of this year's Open Championship, reigns supreme.  He's followed by Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Harris English, and Jon Rahm.  The playoffs start next week at the Northern Trust in Jersey City, New Jersey.  After that, only the top 70 qualifying players will make it to the BMW Championship in Owings Mills, Maryland.  Finally, the top 30 qualified golfers will compete in the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. 

(Greensboro, NC)  --  Kevin Kisner held off five other golfers in a playoff to win the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday.  Kisner birdied the second playoff hole to eliminate Roger Sloan, Adam Scott, Branden Grace, Kevin Na, and Si Woo Kim to win more than 1.1 million dollars at Sedgefield Country Club.  The 37-year-old South Carolina native shot a four-under 66 to finish the final round in a tie at 15-under with the five other golfers, a record-tying total to head to sudden-death.  All six men made the FedEx playoffs, as the regular season came to an end Sunday. 

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The Seahawks backups got some play in a 20-7 preseason loss to the Raiders in Las Vegas on Saturday.  DeeJay Dallas took a short pass from Alex McGough 43 yards to the house for Seattle's only score.  Cody Barton contributed on defense with nine tackles and two sacks and Ryan Neal had an interception.  The Seahawks host the Broncos this Saturday in preseason action.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  A.J. Allmendiger needed to survive cautions, red flags, poor track conditions and the removal of a curb from turn six as he took home a NASCAR Cup Series win at The Brickyard.  Allmendinger soared to the front in overtime after Chase Briscoe wrecked leader Denny Hamlin on the heels of a penalty.  Ryan Blaney finished second while Kyle Larson took third.  A late red flag and massive wreck led to the removal of a curb over turn six, which had filtered debris across the track.  

(Philadelphia, PA) -- The Dodgers just missed a sweep, falling 2-1 to the Phillies in Philadelphia. Los Angeles managed only three total hits, with Trea Turner recording a RBI. Mitch White got tagged with his first loss, allowing two runs over four frames. The bullpen combined to allow only one hit after White's exit as the Dodgers had a four-game winning streak snapped. They head to New York to begin a series with the Mets this afternoon.

(Seattle, WA) -- Marco Gonzales pitched a complete-game two-hitter in the Mariners 3-1 win over the Rangers in Seattle. Gonzales finished with nine strikeouts and one run allowed over nine innings. JP Crawford and Jake Fraley each hit solo homers and Jarred Kelenic had a sacrifice fly. The Mariners start a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight.

(Cleveland, OH) -- The ball was flying for the Athletics as they destroyed the Indians 17-0 in Cleveland. Oakland strung together 14 hits to plate their season-high in runs. Mitch Moreland homered twice. the A's won their seventh straight. They'll look to ride the momentum today against the Rangers.

(San Francisco, CA) -- Logan Webb spun a masterful performance as he struck out eight over six scoreless innings as the Giants blanked the Rockies 7-0 in San Francisco. Webb also drove in two runs of his own . San Francisco has won five straight. They continue the series with Denver tonight.

(Anaheim, CA) -- Shohei Ohtani added to his historic season as the Angels beat the Blue Jays 6-3 in Anaheim. Ohtani improved to 7-and-1 on the mound, striking out six over six frames of work. He also added a double and a run scored for Los Angeles, which won its second in its last four. Jared Walsh and Kurt Suzuki each added a pair of RBI. The Angels split the series and now host the Astros tonight.

(Dyersville, IA) -- The Field of Dreams Game was anything but corny as Tim Anderson went the distance by hitting a two-run, walk-off homer to lift the White Sox to a 9-8 win over the Yankees in Dyersville, Iowa.

(Undated) -- The Clippers are officially locking down the Klaw to a long term deal. Los Angeles inked star forward Kawhi Leonard to a four-year, 176-point-three million-dollar contract, just under a week after he told the team he would be returning. The two-time NBA Finals MVP guided the Clippers to the playoffs for a second straight year, but went down with a knee injury. That injury was later diagnosed as a partially torn ACL, meaning Leonard is expected to miss a significant portion of this season.

(Greensboro, NC) -- Russell Henley is firing his way to the top of the leaderboard after the first round at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. The 32-year-old Henley had six birdies and an eagle on his way to an eight-under 62 at Sedgefield Country Club on Thursday. He holds a two-shot lead on a group of golfers led by Michael Thompson and Chris Kirk. Defending champion Jim Herman is two-over.

(Indianapolis, IN) -- It's time for the NASCAR Cup Series to kiss the bricks. The Big Machine Vodka 400 at The Brickyard Powered By Florida Georgia Line will take place from Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. Kyle Larson rolls into Indianapolis with plenty of momentum on his side. Larson won his fifth race of the season this past week after winning the road course at Watkins Glen. His teammate Chase Elliott finished second.

(Dyersville, IA)  --  Anticipation is as high as the corn stalks for the MLB's "Field of Dreams" game in Dyersville, Iowa, tonight.  The White Sox and Yankees will collide in a game set to take place at a site where the iconic movie was filmed.  Andrew Heaney gets the start for New York while Lance Lynn will take the mound for Chicago.  The game was delayed to this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are delaying the start time of their game on Sunday at Providence Park against the Seattle Sounders because of the hot weather.  The game was set to begin at 5:30 Sunday afternoon.  It's now being delayed until 7 p.m. 

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  Cody Bellinger continues to rake in August as the Dodgers defeated the Phillies 8-2 in Philadelphia.  Bellinger homered twice, hitting a two-run bomb in the fourth and ninth innings.  AJ Pollock added three hits for Los Angeles, which has won four straight.  Brusdar Graterol got his third win, throwing two scoreless in relief.  The Dodgers again dealt with a rain delay, but got the better of mother nature.  They wrap up the series with Philadelphia today.

(Greensboro, NC)  --  The big names will be out in force as the PGA Tour makes its stop in Greensboro, North Carolina this week for the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.  Tokyo silver medalist Rory Sabbatini will be among the field as well as Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and Charl Schwartzel as they vie for the title and more than six-million-dollars in prize money.  Jim Herman will be looking to defend his title.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  One of the Beavers best defenders will not play in the start of the season.  Oregon State defensive end Isaac Hodgins will be out for eight weeks after having foot surgery on Monday.  Hodgins has made 30 starts in three seasons for the Beavers.

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  Corey Seager exploded at the plate as the Dodgers beat the Phillies 5-0 in Philadelphia.  The shortstop went 3-for-5 with a solo homer.  Max Muncy also went deep for Los Angeles, which won its third straight.  Alex Vesia got his second win in relief after Max Scherzer exited due to a fourth inning rain delay.  Scherzer threw three-and-a-third scoreless frames for a no-decision.  The Dodgers continue the series this afternoon.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Kris Bryant hit a ball that Christian Walker couldn't hold onto as the Giants walked off the Diamondbacks 8-7 in San Francisco.  It was the second critical error the Diamondbacks' first baseman made in the inning.  Buster Posey hit his 14th home run of the season for San Francisco.  Mike Yastrzemski  drove in two and finished with two hits for the Giants.  Zack Littell picked up the win for San Francisco, which has won three straight.  They continue the series tonight. 

(Anaheim, CA)  --  The Angels and Blue Jays traded shots in doubleheader in Anaheim.  Los Angeles took Game One 6-3, with Toronto bouncing back to split the day with a 4-0 Game Two win.  Justin Upton and Phil Gosselin each had two RBI in Game One, with Junior Guerra picking up his third win.  Raisel Iglesias pitched a clean ninth to secure his 25th save in Game One.  Los Angeles managed only three hits in Game Two, with Jose Suarez taking his fifth loss.  The Angels have lost three of their last four.  They continue the series tonight. 

(New York, NY)  --  NFL officials will crack down on taunting during the upcoming season.  Taunting penalties will be strictly enforced this year, with two violations resulting in automatic ejection.  The league says the player in question could also be fined or suspended depending on the severity of the player's actions.  Competition committee chairman Rich McKay said coaches brought up the issue in the spring, pointing to the importance of respect among those on the field.  

(Cleveland, OH)  --  Jed Lowrie drove in runs in the eighth and tenth as the Athletics beat the Indians 4-3 in Cleveland.  Seth Brown homered as Oakland has won five-straight.  Lou Trivino picked up his fifth win while Andrew Chafin picked up his first save with his new team.  The A's continue the series today.  
 

(Undated)  --  The Los Angeles Dodgers are dealing with yet another injury to their star-studded roster.  Outfielder Mookie Betts has been battling a sore right rip and is "very probable" to hit the injured list, according to manager Dave Roberts.  Betts left Friday's game early with hip discomfort, before playing on Saturday and missing Sunday's game.  This comes after third baseman Justin Turner was expected to miss the team's series against the Phillies with left groin pain.  

(Boston, MA)  --  Dennis Schroder's bet on himself didn't quite go according to plan.  A year after reportedly rejecting 84-million dollars from the Lakers, Schroder is signing a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics.  Rather than the large sum of money Schroder would have received a year ago, the guard is expected to receive just 5.9-million dollars from the Celtics.  According to the Boston Herald, Schroder is in a "state of shock" over his decision to pass up 84-million dollars.  The guard had high hopes for a big payday but those hopes fizzled out after poor performances helped lead to the elimination of Los Angeles by the Suns in six games in the first round of the playoffs.

(Undated)  --  The more things change in college football, the more they stay the same.  Despite an offseason with the introduction of players profiting from N-I-Ls and potential realignment, the top of the coaches poll is still rich with blue bloods.  Alabama and Clemson are ranked one and two in the preseason coaches poll, which was released Tuesday, followed by Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Georgia.  The only surprises come in the second-half of the top ten, after you get past number six Texas A&M and number seven Notre Dame, where you have number eight Iowa State, number nine North Carolina, and number ten Cincinnati.  The college football regular season kicks of August 28th. 

(San Francisco, CA)  --  The MLB's leader in wins welcomes the Diamondbacks tonight in San Francisco.  The Giants have won seven of their last nine and come off a series win over the Brewers.  They send southpaw Alex Wood to the mound for the series opener.  He carries a 9-and-3 record with a 4.03 E-R-A.  Opposite him is Zac Gallen for Arizona.  He owns a 1-and-6 record and a 4.62 earned run average. 

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Dodgers are heading East to start a road series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.  Los Angeles has won three of its last four and sits four games back of first in the NL West.  The team sends Max Scherzer to the mound for the opener.  The All-Star sports a 1-and-oh record and 2.57 E-R-A with his new team.  Opposite him is Aaron Nola for Philadelphia.  He owns a 7-and-6 record with a 4.49 earned run average.  

(Undated)  --  The Rams, Chargers and 49ers are each making their preseason debut this Saturday.  The Rams and Chargers take on one another at SoFi Stadium, marking the first ever game that fans will be allowed at for the multi-billion dollar facility.  Meanwhile, the Niners will also be home as they host the Chiefs in Santa Clara.  The three teams will only play three preseason games as the NFL has expanded the regular season to 17 games. 

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Bulls are one of several teams that the NBA is investigating for possible tampering.  ESPN is reporting the sign-and-trade deal with the Pelicans involving Lonzo Ball could have violated league rules.  The two teams allegedly had talks prior to the free agency deadline of last Monday.  The NBA is also investigating the deal between the Heat and the Raptors involving Kyle Lowry.  Violators can get a ten million dollar fine, forfeiture of draft picks, or cancellation of the trade. 

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  Novak Djokovic is resting up after his trip to the Tokyo Olympics.  The top ranked tennis player in the world announced he's pulling out of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati to take a longer break after a "taxing journey from Australia to Tokyo".  Djokovic followed up his win over Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open, with a subpar performance in Tokyo that resulted in no medal.  He is also resting to continue his quest to become the first man since 1969 to go for a calendar year Grand Slam.  Djokovic will next take the court at the U.S. Open, which is slated to start on August 30th. 

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Legendary college football coach Bobby Bowden is dead. He was 91. The head coach revealed last month that he'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He'd already endured a battle with COVID-19 in October of 2020. Bowden coached Florida State for 34 years and was the second winningest coach in Division One history with 357 wins to his credit. Florida State won the National Championship in 1993 and 1999 with Bowden at the helm. FSU confirmed that Bowden passed away this morning surrounded by his wife Ann and all six of their children.

(Portland, OR) -- A Trail Blazer has been elected as the president of the NBA Players' Association. The union announced Saturday that CJ McCollum has been elected as the NBAPA president. The 29-year-old McCollum takes over for Chris Paul, who had been the Players' Association president for two terms.

(Portland, OR) -- The Timbers are back in the win column. Portland beat Real Salt Lake 3-2 on Saturday with goals from Dairon Asprilla, Yimmi Chará and Felipe Mora. The Timbers are now in sixth place in the MLS Western Conference with 23 points.

(Watkins Glen, NY) -- The NASCAR Cup Series is back on the track and Kyle Larson is back in victory lane. Larson picked up his fifth win of the season as he won the Go Bowling at The Glen at Watkins Glen. The number five Chevrolet led 27 laps and was able to hold off teammate Chase Elliott, who made a late rally to finish second. Martin Truex Jr. finished third. Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Walker Buehler continues to build his case for a CY Young as the Dodgers cruised past the Angels 8-2 in Los Angeles. The right-hander struck out eight over six frames to earn his 12th win of the year. He also managed to lower his E-R-A to second-best in the MLB at 2.13. Cody Bellinger and Albert Pujols each went deep for the Dodgers, who have won five of their last seven.

(Memphis, TN) -- Abraham Ancer is pulling off a victory at the WGC-FedEx Saint Jude Invitational, thanks to a birdie on the second playoff hole. He outdueled Sam Burns and Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama for the win at TPC Southwind in Memphis. Ancer shot a fourth-round 68 to finish in a three-way tie at 16-under to force the playoff. Harris English, who had led through three rounds, shot a three-over 73 Sunday to fall one back into second place. Paul Casey, Cam Smith, and Daniel Berger all tied for fifth at 14-under.

They welcome the Angels tomorrow night for Game One of the Freeway Series.

(Oakland, CA) -- The A's made a valiant comeback against the Padres in extras in the bay. Oakland beat the Padres 5-4 in 10 innings and came back from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Olson hit a walkoff two-run double in the tenth. Jed Lowrie hit a solo homer and A's starter Frankie Montas struck out eight and allowed three runs in six innings. The A's have split their last four games and host the Rangers tomorrow night.

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Kevin Gausman racked up the strikeouts as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 7-1 in Phoenix. The right-hander struck out eight batters, throwing six frames of one-run ball, to earn his 10th win. Donovan Solano hit a solo bomb, with Alex Dickerson breaking the game open with his three-run homer. San Francisco has won four of its last five and wraps up the series in the desert today.

(Canton, OH) -- Are you ready for some football? The NFL is back in action tonight at long last as two classic franchises meet in one of the game's greatest traditions. The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet in the annual NFL Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The gold jackets and busts will be on display this weekend, but the hits, the passes and the unbelievable will take place tonight.

(Ashburn, VA) -- Native American garb will no longer be allowed at Washington Football Team home games. The team announced it's banning Native American headdresses and face paint as it continues to distance itself from its former name and mascot. The WFT is planning to announce its new, permanent name in early 2022 and will again play this season without a mascot in its name. Washington is holding practice at FedEx Field on Friday and approximately 20,000 fans are expected to be in attendance.

LaMarcus Aldridge could be back on an NBA court next season. ESPN is reporting that the seven-time All-Star is seriously considering a return to the NBA after suddenly retiring in mid-April of last season because of a heart issue. The 36-year-old Aldridge joined the Brooklyn Nets in late March after having his contract bought out by the San Antonio Spurs. Aldridge is expected to be in talks with teams in the coming weeks and would still need a team's medical staff to clear him before agreeing to a contract. .

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers reached a deal with Tony Snell.  ESPN reported that Snell signed a one-year deal with Portland.  The 29-year-old Snell averaged 5-point-3 points per game with the Atlanta Hawks last season and shot just under 57 percent from deep.  The 6-foot-6 forward was drafted out of New Mexico in 2013 by the Chicago Bulls.

(Undated)  --  Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby and Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff met yesterday to discuss a possible strategic partnership between the conferences.  The Athletic reports that the meeting is not centered around an official partnership, but more to explore options following Texas and Oklahoma's decision to join the SEC.  Bowlsby has mentioned the possibility of the Big 12 partnering or combining with another conference in recent days.  Kliavkoff said last week at Pac-12 Media Day that numerous schools have reached out to him about possible expansion. 

(Undated)  --  The Clippers are reportedly bringing back forward Nicolas Batum.  Los Angeles brings back the veteran forward on a two-year deal as the sides came to an agreement on Monday.  Batum averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in his first season with the Clippers.  Los Angeles has been quiet otherwise during NBA free agency as the team made no moves on Tuesday.  

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  There were plenty of boos and trash cans smacked as the Astros beat the Dodgers 3-0 in Los Angeles.  Yordan Alvarez lifted Houston with his two-run homer in the eighth inning in front of the largest crowd in baseball so far this season.  Michael Brantley had a RBI double for the Astros, which have won four of their last six.  Lance McCullers Jr. outdueled Walker Buehler to earn his ninth win.  Buehler took only his second loss on a night where Los Angeles went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.  The Dodgers have lost three of their last five.

(Oakland, CA)  --  Blake Snell shut down the A's offense in the Padres 8-1 win over Oakland in San Diego.  Snell struck out six and allowed one run over five innings.  Sean Manaea gave up five runs in four-and-one-third innings.  Starling Marte had three hits and a solo homer.  Oakland has dropped two of three.  The A's wrap up the series today.  
 

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  Curt Casali homered as the Giants fell 3-1 to the Diamondbacks in Phoenix.  Casali plated San Francisco's only run with his fifth home run of the year.  Johnny Cueto suffered his sixth loss, giving up three runs over five innings.  The Giants had a three-game winning streak snapped with the loss.  They continue the series tonight.

(Arlington, TX)  --  Phil Gosselin knocked in three runs as the Angels beat the Rangers 11-3 in Arlington.  Gosselin was 3-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs.  Jo Adell added three RBI on three hits for Los Angeles, which snapped a two-game losing skid.  Jose Suarez picked up his fifth win, striking out six over five-and-two-thirds innings.  The Angels continue the series today.

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Stephen Curry is signing a four-year contract extension worth 215-million-dollars with the Golden State Warriors. This makes him the first player in NBA history to land two deals worth more than 200-million.  The two-time MVP and three-time NBA champion led the league in scoring last season with an average of nearly 32-points a game.  The 33-year-old Curry is entering the final year of his existing contract that will pay him more than 45-million-dollars.  The new extension will run through the 2025-2026 season.

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Carmelo Anthony is joining forces with LeBron James in Los Angeles.  ESPN reports 'Melo has agreed to a one-year deal with the Lakers.  The 10-time All-Star was part of the famed 2003 NBA Draft class that included James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  Anthony is one of several additions by the Lakers on Tuesday.  L.A. has also reportedly reached deals with Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn and Malik Monk.  Horton-Tucker returns on a three-year, 32-million-dollar contract per ESPN.

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  An internal investigation by the NCAA reports the association prioritizes men's basketball "over everything else."  The report was put together by civil rights litigator Roberta A. Kaplan and her law firm.  Kaplan found the NCAA is earning far less than it could be for television rights for its women's basketball tournament.  The report recommended the men's and women's Final Fours be held in the same city, among other suggestions.  The investigation was sparked after players and coaches spoke out at last season's women's basketball tournament about the inequality between the men's and women's competitions.

(Undated) -- The Sounders and Timbers are back on the pitch tomorrow night. Seattle hosts FC Dallas and Portland hosts San Jose. The Sounders lead the MLS Western Conference with 32 points and the Timbers are at 19 points in the standings.

(Portland, OR) -- The Portland Trail Blazers are bringing back one of their best scorers. According to ESPN, the Blazers are re-signing Norman Powell to a five-year deal worth 90 million dollars. Portland acquired Powell from the Raptors this past season. In 27 games with the Blazers, Powell averaged 17 points and shot just over 36-percent from beyond the arc. Portland also reportedly signed guard Ben McLemore and inked center Cody Zeller to a one-year deal that is reportedly worth the NBA veteran minimum.

(Arlington, TX) -- Chris Rodriguez struck out seven as the Angels fell to the Rangers 4-1 in Arlington. The right-hander took his first loss, allowing four runs over six frames. Juan Lagares batted in the only run for Los Angeles. The Angels dropped their second straight and fourth in their last five. They continue the road series tonight.

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Chris Flexen and Ty France were key pieces in the Mariners 8-2 win over the Rays in St. Petersburg. Flexen struck out six and allowed two runs in six-and-two-thirds innings to pick up his 10th win. France drove in three runs on three hits, including a solo homer. Jake Fraley drove in two runs on two hits. The series continues this afternoon.

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Alex Dickerson hit a grand slam as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 11-8 in Phoenix. Dickerson pushed the lead to 7-1 in the fifth with his bases-clearing bomb. Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run homer for San Francisco, which has won three straight. Jarlin Garcia got his third win in relief. The series continues tonight.

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Chris Paul is reportedly set to run it back with the Phoenix Suns. According to multiple reports, Paul is signing a multi-year deal to remain in Phoenix. Paul will reportedly receive 120 million dollars over four years. The 11-time All-Star helped the Suns reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993 in his first year in the desert. The point guard also reportedly underwent surgery on his wrist this offseason but will be ready for training camp.

The Bulls landed Lonzo Ball in a sign-and-trade deal, with the Heat doing the same to acquire Kyle Lowry. Chris Paul agreed to stay in Phoenix, signing a four-year deal worth 120-million dollars. The Lakers started their roster rebuild by signing four former players in the form of Trevor Ariza, Dwight Howard, Wayne Ellington and Kent Bazemore. Elsewhere, the defending champion Bucks brought back fan favorite Bobby Portis.

(Portland, OR) -- The Blazers are not extending a qualifying offer to Zach Collins, making him a free agent. The offer would have paid Collins 7 million dollars this season. The former Gonzaga Bulldog has dealt with injuries in his Portland career and missed all of last season with an ankle injury. NBA free agency officially starts today.

(Anaheim, CA) -- Matt Olson blasted his 28th homer as the Athletics beat the Angels 8-3 in Anaheim. Olson kicked off a five-run third with his three-run bomb. Yan Gomes also homered in the inning, breaking a 3-3 tie. Daulton Jefferies got his first major league win, allowing three runs over five frames. Oakland has won four of its last five. Max Stassi hit a two-run homer for Los Angeles, which has lost three of its last four. Reid Detmers was charged his first loss, surrendering six runs in his big league debut

Ketel Marte got a hit in his return from the injured list. Caleb Smith was handed his eighth loss, allowing five runs over one-and-two-thirds innings. Arizona has lost four of its last six.

Teams will be allowed to negotiate terms with players. Deals cannot be officially signed until after midnight on Friday, when the new league year begins. Stars such as Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul have already opted out of their deals to enter unrestricted free agency. Other big names that could potentially find new homes, include Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

(Tokyo) -- For the United States women's basketball team, it's a long way to the top if they want to win the gold. The Americans beat France 93-82, but it wasn't easy as they trailed early in the fourth quarter. A'ja Wilson led the way with 22 points for Team USA while Breanna Stewart had 17. Tina Charles added 15 off the bench.
