Timbers Advance To MLS Cup Final

(Frisco, TX)  --  The Portland Timbers will move on for the first time to the MLS Cup Final, after drawing FC Dallas, 2-2.  The aggregate score of 5-3 was enough for the Timbers to win the Western Conference Championship series.  Portland will go on the road to play Columbus in the MLS Cup next Sunday, after the Crew defeated the New York Red Bulls for the Eastern Conference title.  Sunday afternoon's game is set to begin at one o'clock. 

Trail Blazers Visit Clippers

(Los Angeles, CA) --  The Trail Blazers look to stay hot when they visit the Clippers tonight in LA.  Portland has won three of its last four games and is coming of a 108-96 win over the Lakers Saturday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. 

17th-ranked Ducks Hold Off Beavers In Civil War Game

(Eugene, OR)  --  Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns to Bralon Addison as the Ducks held off a late rally to beat the Beavers 52-42 at Autzen Stadium.  Royce Freeman added 167 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for Oregon, which finished the regular season 9-and-3.  Seth Collins rushed for three touchdowns after missing four straight games for Oregon State, which failed to earn a conference win all season. 

Portland State Runs Past Multnomah

(Portland, OR)  --  Cameron Forte scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed ten rebounds to lead Portland State over Multnomah 100-82 at home Saturday night.  De'Sean Parsons added 14 points off the bench for the Vikings, which improved to 3-and-2 on the season.  Portland State is back in action Wednesday when the team takes on Portland at the Peter Stott Center. 

#23 Oregon Hosts Fresno State

(Eugene, OR)  --  The 23rd-ranked Ducks are back in action tonight when they host Fresno State at Matthew Knight Arena.  Oregon sits at 5-and-0 on the year and is coming off a blowout win over Arkansas State Wednesday in which Dwayne Benjamin scored a game-high 25 points off the bench.  Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. 

Seahawks Defeat Steelers, 39-30

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are winners of two straight games, following a 39-30 defeat of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Russell Wilson passed for a career-high five touchdowns in a game that saw seven lead changes.  However, there was bad news for Seattle, as tight end Jimmy Graham suffered a knee injury that will require surgery and keep him out for the rest of the season.  The Seahawks will visit Minnesota next Sunday. 

Oregon Rises In College Football Playoff Rankings

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are on the move for the second consecutive week in the College Football Playoff Rankings.  UO is up six spots to 17th in the committee's latest poll.  Oregon welcomes rival Oregon State to Eugene on Friday.  

Bulls Turn Back Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR)  --  Jimmy Butler scored 22 points to lead the Bulls to a 93-88 win over the Trail Blazers.  Damian Lillard just missed a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.  Lillard was just 4-of-22 from the floor for Portland, which had won its previous two.  The Blazers are off the court until Saturday when they host the Los Angeles Lakers. 

#23 Oregon Hosts Arkansas State Tonight

(Eugene, OR)  --  The 23rd-ranked Ducks are back on the hardwood this afternoon hosting Arkansas State.  Oregon improved to 4-and-0 with a 73-67 win over Valparaiso on Sunday.  Tip from Matthew Knight Arena at 4:00.  

Beavers Lose To Valpo

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State couldn't overcome a nine-point halftime deficit as the Beavers lost to Valparaiso, 63-57, at Gill Coliseum.  Gary Payton the Second racked up 25 points and 11 rebounds to pace OSU, which fell to 4-and-1 on the season.  The Beavers are off until a week from today, when they host Loyola Marymount. 

Report: Lynch To Undergo Surgery

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch is reportedly about to undergo surgery.  NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports that Lynch will be out about a month and miss at least four of Seattle's final six games of the regular season.  Lynch met Monday with a specialist in Philadelphia about an injury to his abdomen.  He suffered the injury, which is described as a strain or tear of soft tissue in the abdomen, in practice before the Arizona game, and played through it against the Cardinals.

Blazers Host Bulls Tonight

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers host the Chicago Bulls tonight at the Moda Center.  The Blazers snapped a seven-game losing streak with Friday's 102-91 home win over the Los Angeles Clippers and followed with a 107-93 victory against the Lakers two days later.  The Bulls are 8-and-4 overall.  Tipoff at 7:00.  

Oregon Moves Into Top 25

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon hoops is making its way into the college basketball top 25 rankings.  The Ducks are 23rd in the "USA Today" Coaches Poll.  UO is 4-and-0, and hosts Arkansas State tomorrow night. 

Undefeated OSU Hosts Valpo

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The 4-and-0 Oregon State Beavers host Valparaiso tonight at Gill Coliseum.  OSU took out UC Santa Barbara 71-59 to remain unbeaten.  Valpo is 5-and-1, and made the NCAA Tournament last season.  Tip from Corvallis at 7:00.  

PSU Rises In Ranks

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State is making a move in the latest FCS college football rankings.  The Vikings are up six spots to fifth in the Coaches Poll.  PSU defeated Eastern Washington 34-31 on Saturday.  The team finishes the regular season 9-and-2, and earned a sixth-seed and bye in the FCS playoffs.

Ducks Move Up Coaches Poll

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks continue to rise in the college football top 25 rankings.  UO is up four spots from 22nd-to-18th in the latest "USA Today" Coaches Poll.  The Ducks rolled USC 48-28 over the weekend to improve to 8-and-3.  Oregon will see if its on the rise tonight in the College Football Playoff Rankings tonight as well.

Report: Cano Unhappy In Seattle, Wants To Go Back To NYC

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano [[ kah-NO ]] is reportedly unhappy with the Mariners and wants to return to the New York Yankees.  The New York "Daily News" reports Cano, who's under a ten-year, 240-million-dollar contract with the Mariners, wants to find his way back to New York, where he played for nine seasons.  Seattle PI.com reports that Cano's agent called Seattle G.M. Jerry Dipoto yesterday and told him the "Daily News" report was a rumor that didn't come from Cano. 

Carroll: Lynch To See Specialist

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is in Philadelphia to see a specialist about his abdominal injury.  Head coach Pete Carroll says he doesn't know yet whether Lynch will require surgery, but it is a possibility.  Lynch is doubtful for this Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Thomas Rawls, who rushed for 209 yards against San Francisco this past Sunday, will likely start should Lynch be unavailable. 

Blazers Take Down Lakers

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Damian Lillard went off for 30 points and 13 assists to give the Trail Blazers a 107-93 win versus the Lakers at the STAPLES Center.  C.J. McCollum chipped in 19 points, while Mason Plumlee had a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.  Portland improved to 6-and-9 and hosts the Bulls tomorrow night.  

#23 Ducks Take Down #24 USC

(Eugene, OR) -- Vernon Adams threw six touchdowns to six different receivers to lead the 23rd-ranked Ducks over number-24 USC 48-28 at Autzen Stadium.  Adam's added 407 yards to his six touchdowns, which tied the most for an Oregon quarterback in program history.  Royce Freeman ran for 147 yards for the Ducks, which have won five straight games and improved to 8-and-3 overall.  The Ducks close out the regular season Friday against Oregon State at home.

Beavers Blown Out By Washington

(Corvallis, OR) -- The Beavers lost their eighth straight game Saturday in a blowout loss to Washington, 52-7 at Reser Stadium.  Victor Bolden had 52 yards receiving and caught the lone touchdown for Oregon State, which has yet to win a game in conference. The Beavers fell to 2-and-9 and close out their season against number-23 Oregon Friday. 

Vikings Edge Eastern Washington

(Cheney, WA) -- David Jones ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings over Eastern Washington 34-31 in the team's final regular season game.  Alex Kuresa added two touchdowns through the air for Portland State, which finished the season 9-and-2.  The Vikings will likely earn a playoff spot in the FCS playoffs. 

Rawls Leads Seahawks Over 49ers

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back at .500 on the season, after their 29-13 victory at home over San Francisco.  Thomas Rawls, who played in place of the injured Marshawn Lynch, gained 209 yards rushing and scored a touchdown to help lead Seattle to the win.  Russell Wilson was 24-of-29 for 260 yards and three scores.  The Seahawks will host the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday. 

College Basketball Roundup

(Undated) -- In college basketball action this weekend, Oregon State took down UC Santa Barbara, 71-59, on the road, while Oregon got by Valparaiso, 73-67, at Matthew Knight Arena.  Portland fell to Colorado, 85-63, and Portland State beat UT-Rio Grande Valley, 79-61, on the road. 

UCLA Knocks Off #13 Utah

(Salt Lake City, UT)  -- The Bruins went to Salt Lake City and stifled number-13 Utah in a 17-9 win at Rice-Eccles Stadium.  Josh Rosen threw for 220 yards and a touchdown in the low-scoring affair.  Paul Perkins padded the slim lead in the fourth quarter with a two-yard touchdown run as the Bruins get set for a showdown with USC next week for the Pac-12 South title.  The Utes were 8-of-19 on third down and fumbled twice as they lost their third game in five weeks after starting the year 6-and-0.  Joe Williams ran for 121 yards as he started in place of the injured Devontae Booker.

Adams, #23 Oregon Rock #24 USC

(Eugene, OR)  --  Vernon Adams torched USC for six touchdowns as number-23 Oregon knocked off 24th-ranked Southern Cal, 48-28 at Autzen Stadium.  Adams was 20-of-25 for 407 yards, six touchdowns and a pick as Oregon won its fifth game in a row.  Royce Freeman rumbled for 147 yards on the ground for the Ducks.  Oregon scored 17 points in the final seven minutes before halftime, giving the Ducks a 31-14 lead.  Cody Kessler tossed two touchdowns for USC, which had its four-game win streak snapped.  Justin Davis ran for 141 yards and Adoree Jackson scored on a punt return for the 7-and-4 Trojans.  

Trail Blazers Host Clippers

(Portland, OR) --  The Trail Blazers look to get their season back on track tonight when they host the Los Angeles Clippers at the Moda Center.  Portland has lost seven games in-a-row and sit dead last in the Northwest Division.  The Blazers are coming off a 108-103 road loss to the Rockets in which Damian Lillard scored 23 points but shot just 6-for-19.  Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. 

#23 Oregon battles USC

(Eugene, OR) --  The 23rd-ranked Ducks take on Pac-12 rival USC at home this Saturday.  Oregon is riding a four-game win streak and is coming off an upset win over Stanford last weekend.  Oregon still holds a slim hope of reaching the Pac-12 title game, needing to win out and have Stanford lose to Cal. 

Beavers Host Washington

(Corvallis, OR) --  Oregon State looks for its first Pac-12 win of the season when it hosts the Washington Huskies Saturday. The team is coming off a 54-24 road loss to Cal last week.  The Beavers have lost seven straight games and are 2-and-8 under first year coach Gary Anderson. 

Vikings Visit Eastern Washington

(Cheney, WA) --  Portland State finishes up its regular season schedule when they visit Eastern Washington Saturday.  The 8-and-2 Vikings are coming off a 24-23 victory over first place Southern Utah at home.  Both Portland State and Eastern Washington are tied for second in the Big Sky at 5-and-2. 

Winterhawks Take On Tri-City

(Portland, OR) -- The Portland Winterhawks are back in action tonight when they host the Tri-City Americans at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.  The 'Hawks are 10-and-9 overall, good for fourth place in the U.S. Division. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.

Harden, Rockets Stump Blazers

(Houston, TX)  --  James Harden poured in 45 points and flirted with a triple-double as the Rockets rallied past the Blazers in overtime, 108-103, at the Toyota Center.  Damian Lillard scored 23 points to lead the Blazers, who fell to 4-and-9 with their seventh straight loss.  C.J. McCollum put up 19 points in the loss.

Beavers Host Washington Saturday

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State hopes to snap a seven-game losing streak and earn its first Pac-12 win as the Washington Huskies come to Corvallis on Saturday.  The Beavers are 2-and-8 under first-year head coach Gary Andersen.  They haven't won fewer than two games in a season since 1995.  The 4-and-6 Huskies are fighting for a bowl berth.  

#23 Oregon Takes On #24 USC Saturday

(Eugene, OR)  --  The 23rd-ranked Oregon Ducks host Pac-12 foe USC on Saturday at Autzen Stadium.  Oregon is riding a four-game win streak, including an upset of Stanford last weekend.  In order for Oregon to reach the Pac-12 title game, they need to win their final two games and have Stanford to lose to Cal on Saturday.  USC is 7-and-3. 

Vikings Close Out Regular Season Saturday

(Cheney, WA)  --  Portland State closes out its regular season on Saturday when they visit Eastern Washington.  The 8-and-2 Vikings lost both of their games by a combined five points this year.  EWU is 6-and-4.  Both teams are tied for second in the Big Sky with a 5-and-2 record.

OSU Preps For Washington

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers are gearing up for their Pac-12 North showdown with Washington.  Oregon State dropped its seventh straight game to fall to 2-and-8 overall and 0-and-7 in the Pac-12.  The Huskies fell to Arizona State, and are 4-and-6 on the season.  OSU lost last season in Seattle 37-13.

Clemson, Alabama Still Top Playoff Rankings

(Grapevine, TX)  --  There's no change at the top of this week's College Football Playoff rankings.  Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame are still ranked one-through-four in this week's poll.  Iowa and Oklahoma State are the first two teams out of the playoffs. 
 

Oregon Cracks College Football Playoff Rankings

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are cracking the College Football Playoff top 25 rankings for the first time this season.  UO checks in at number-23 in the playoff committee's latest poll.  The Ducks have won four straight, including an upset victory over then-seventh-ranked Stanford last week.  Up next, Oregon hosts USC on Saturday.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are back on home ice tonight hosting Moose Jaw.  The 'Hawks are 10-9-and-0 overall, while the Warriors are 11-6-and-2 on the season.  Puck drops from Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7:00.  

Blazers Try And Stop Bleeding Tonight

(Houston, TX)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers try and stop the bleeding on a seven-game losing streak tonight at the Houston Rockets.  The skid is the longest since January 2013.  The Rockets are struggling as well at 4-and-7 overall.  Tip from Houston at 5:00.  

Timbers Gearing Up For FC Dallas

(Beaverton, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers continue to gear up for the first leg of the Conference Championship series against FC Dallas.  The two teams hit the pitch at Providence Park on Sunday.  The Timbers advanced to the Western Conference Championship after beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in the second leg of the conference semifinals on November 8th.  

Seahawks Waive WR Chris Matthews

(Renton, WA)  --  Wide receiver Chris Matthews is no longer with the Seattle Seahawks after being waived by the team.  Matthews snagged four passes, one for a touchdown, in Super Bowl 49, but caught only four passes for 54 yards over 12 regular-season games.  His roster spot has been filled by wide receiver Kevin Smith, who was signed off the practice squad.  Smith was a standout receiver for the Washington Huskies before entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent. 

Oregon Sinks Baylor

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon jumped out to an 11-point lead at halftime and held on for a 74-67 home win over Baylor.  The Ducks moved to 2-and-0 behind 15 points apiece from Chris Boucher and Elgin Cook.  The Ducks host Savannah State on Friday. 

Blazers Lose Sixth Straight Game

(San Antonio, TX)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are losers of six straight games.  The latest loss came last night in San Antonio, where the Spurs defeated Portland, 93-80.  Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 27 points and six assists.  Portland will continue its road trip tomorrow night in Houston. 

Beavers Host Iona Tonight

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State Beavers are back on the hardwood tonight hosting Iona.  OSU opened its season with a 74-52 victory over Northwest Christian.  The Gaels are 0-and-1.  Tip from Gill Coliseum in Corvallis at 7:00.

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State is on the rise in the college football polls.  The Vikings are up five spots to 11th, in the FCS Coaches' Poll.  PSU defeated Southern Utah 24-23, and visit 19th-ranked Eastern Washington this weekend.

Mariners Acquire Martin In Trade With Texas

(Seattle, WA)  --  Center fielder Leonys Martin is being acquired by the Seattle Mariners in a trade with the Texas Rangers.  Martin and right-handed reliever Anthony Bass are heading to Seattle in exchange for reliever Tom Wilhelmsen and outfielder James Jones.  Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto says Martin is a premier defensive center fielder who has speed and athleticism. 

Blazers Visit Spurs

(San Antonio, TX)  --  The Blazers attempt to snap a five-game skid as they visit the Spurs tonight in San Antonio.  Portland plays game three of a four-game road trip tonight before visiting the Rockets on Wednesday.  The Blazers are 4-and-7 on the year

Hornets Blast Blazers

(Charlotte, NC)  --  The Hornets put up 71 points in the first half en route to a 106-94 win over the Trail Blazers at Time Warner Cable Arena.  Former Blazer Nicolas Batum dropped in a game-high 33 points.  Damian Lillard posted 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists to pace Portland, which has lost five in-a-row.  Allen Crabbe netted 17 points off the bench in defeat. 

Oregon Knocks Off #7 Stanford

(Stanford, CA)  --  Seventh-ranked Stanford failed to convert on a two-point conversion in the final moments, falling to Oregon 38-36 in Pac-12 play from Stanford Stadium.  Vernon Adams Junior threw two touchdowns and Royce Freeman picked up 105 yards and a score on the ground for the Ducks, who improved to 7-and-3.  Charles Nelson and Kani Benoit added a rushing touchdown each as Oregon knocked off the Cardinal for the second time in four seasons.  

Cal Lights Up Oregon State

(Berkeley, CA)  --  Jared Goff threw six touchdowns as Cal rocked Oregon State, 54-24, on Saturday.  Nick Mitchell threw for 161 yards and two scores for the 2-and-8 Beavers, who are winless in the Pac-12.  Mitchell also ran for a score as the Beavers lost their seventh game in a row.  

Vikings Top Southern Utah

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State prevented the game-winning two-point conversion as they slipped by Southern Utah, 24-23, at home.  Alex Kuresa threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the win.  PSU is now 8-and-2.

Arizona Holds Off Seahawks, 39-32

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks' playoff chances are shrinking after a 39-32 loss at home to Arizona.  The Seahawks took their first lead in the fourth quarter with two quick touchdowns made possible by the defense.  The Cardinals responded with two touchdowns of their own, which put them ahead to stay.  Seattle will host San Francisco next Sunday. 

College Basketball Roundup

(Undated)  --  In college basketball action this weekend, Oregon State topped Northwest Christian, 74-52.  Oregon beat Jackson State, 80-52, and Portland State fell to Grand Canyon, 82-72.  Portland beat Oregon Tech 98-81 on Friday, but fell last night, 79-66 at UC Davis.  The Ducks host Baylor tonight, and the Vikings host Pacific Lutheran.  Oregon State hosts Iona tomorrow, while the Pilots are off until Friday. 

Blazers Visit Grizzlies

(Memphis, TN)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers look to snap a three-game losing streak as they begin a four-game road trip tonight in Memphis.  The Blazers are 4-and-5.  After Memphis, they visit the Hornets on Sunday, the Spurs on Monday, before wrapping the trip next Wednesday in Houston.  Memphis is 3-and-6.  

Oregon Challenges Stanford

(Stanford, CA)  --  Oregon faces off with seventh-ranked Stanford tomorrow on the road.  The Ducks are on a three-game win streak and get a chance to knock off their conference rival.  The two squads have split their past six meetings, with the Ducks winning last season 45-16.

(Berkeley, CA)  --  The Beavers attempt to halt a six-game losing streak as they visit the Cal Golden Bears tomorrow in Berkeley.  Oregon State is trying to rebound form a 41-0 loss to UCLA last week. Cal is 5-and-4, but they have dropped four games in a row. 

Mariners Acquire Benoit In Trade With Padres

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Mariners are adding depth to their bullpen with the acquisition of right-hander Joaquin Benoit [[ wa-KEEN ben-OYT ]] from the San Diego Padres.  In exchange, Seattle has sent the Padres minor-league pitcher Enyel De Los Santos and infielder Nelson Ward.  Benoit went 6-and-5 in 2015 for San Diego with a two-point-34 ERA.  He has a combined record of 54-and-42 and an ERA of three-point-84 during his 14-year major-league career. 

Trail Blazers Fall To Aldridge, Spurs

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers fell to the Spurs, 113-101, in the return of LaMarcus Aldridge to the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard finished one assist shy of a double-double with 22 points and nine dimes for Portland, which has lost three in-a-row.  Aldridge finished with 23 points and six assists in his return after spending nine seasons in Portland.  The Trail Blazers are back in action Friday when they head to Memphis to take on the Grizzles. 

Timbers Look Ahead To Conference Finals

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers are getting ready for the Western Conference finals.  The Timbers now look ahead to FC Dallas, which finished first in the West during the regular season.  The two teams faced each other twice during the regular season, splitting the two games.  The series gets started November 22nd when Portland hosts Dallas at Providence Park. 

Ducks Battle Stanford

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks hit the road to battle Pac-12 rival and seventh-ranked Stanford Saturday.  Oregon is coming off a 44-28 win over California in which the team amassed a school-record 777 yards of total offense.  Oregon currently sits two games back of Stanford for first place in the North division.  The winner of the last five meetings between the two teams has gone on to win the Pac-12.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. 

Vikings Host First Place Southern Utah

(Portland, OR) --  The Portland State Vikings look to keep their Big Sky championship hopes alive when they host first place Southern Utah at Providence Park.  The Vikings are coming off a tough 35-31 loss to Northern Colorado on the road.  Portland State sits two games back of Southern Utah with just two games to go.  Kickoff is slated for 2:05 p.m.

Carroll: Lynch Geared For Big Second Half Of Season

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says Marshawn Lynch appears geared for a big second half of the season.  Carroll says the star running back is in "very good shape" for mid-year and is excited about playing.  Lynch, who missed two games and most of a third with injuries earlier in the season, was held out of practice yesterday for non-injury-related issues.  The Seahawks are getting ready for Sunday's prime-time game with the Arizona Cardinals at CenturyLink Field. 

Blazers Host Aldridge, Spurs Tonight

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers welcome back big man LaMarcus Aldridge to the Moda Center tonight.  Aldridge returns for the first time since bolting the Blazers for San Antonio via free agency.  Portland is 4-and-4 overall, and have lost two straight games.  The Spurs are 5-and-2 on the season.  Tip tonight at 7:30.

Trail Blazers' Henderson 'Probable' Against Spurs

(Portland, OR)  --  Gerald Henderson could make his Trail Blazers debut tonight at home against the San Antonio Spurs.  Henderson has sat out the first eight games of the season while he worked his way back from offseason hip surgery.  He is listed as "probable" for the contest.  The seventh-year veteran came to the Blazers in a July trade that sent forward Nicolas Batum to Charlotte.

Beavers' Payton II Lute Olson Player Of The Year Watch List

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State senior guard Gary Payton the Second is adding to his list of preseason accolades.  Payton has been added to the Lute Olson Player of the Year watch list.  The honor goes to the top player in college basketball who has played at least two seasons.  The Beavers tip their season Saturday at home against Northwest Christian.

Winterhawks Visit Tri-City Tonight

(Kennewick, WA)  --  The Portland Winterhawks are on the road tonight at Tri-City.  The 'Hawks fell to 7-9-and-0 with an 8-5 loss to the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday.  Portland has split its two games this season with the Americans.  Puck drop from Kennewick, Washington at 7:05.

Report: Mariners To Offer Iwakuma Two-year Contract

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are hoping free-agent pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma will remain in Seattle.  The team has extended Iwakuma a 15-point-eight-million-dollar qualifying offer for a year, which he has until Friday to accept of reject.  CBSSports.com reports if Iwakuma rejects the offer, Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto will offer him a two-year deal "on top of" the qualifying offer.  If Iwakuma signs with another club, the Mariners will get that team's top draft pick if it's outside the top ten.

Nuggets Knock Off Blazers

(Denver, CO)  --  J.J. Hickson had 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks as the Nuggets knocked off the Trail Blazers, 108-104, in Denver.  Damian Lillard netted a game-high 30 to go along with seven assists for Portland, which has dropped two straight to fall to 4-and-4.  All five Blazer starters scored in double-figures in defeat.  The Blazers return home to the Moda Center to host the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow.

Ducks May Be Without Williams For Awhile

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks may be without defensive back Juwaan Williams for the rest of the season.  Defensive backs coach John Neal hinted Williams could miss an extended period of time.  Head coach Mark Helfrich did not comment on Williams' injury, and how long he could be out.  He registered eight tackles against Washington.  Up next the Ducks visit seventh-ranked Stanford.

Pitcher Tommy Hanson Dies

(Atlanta, GA)  --  Former Braves and Angels pitcher Tommy Hanson is dead at 29.   Hanson had been in a coma in an Atlanta-area hospital.  The Braves tweeted a photo of Hanson early this morning with the quote "RIP, Tommy".  Hanson hadn't pitched in the majors since 2013 and spent the last two years in the minors.

OSU's Barrett To Retains Starting Role Following Suspension

(Columbus, OH)  --  Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is retaining his starting role as he returns from a one-game suspension for his arrest on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.  Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyers says as long as the redshirt sophomore has a good week of practice, he will return as the starter.

Griffey Jr. Among 37 On Hall Of Fame Ballot

(Undated)  --  Longtime Seattle Mariners star Ken Griffey Jr. is among the 37 players on the ballot for enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame.  In 22 seasons, Griffey racked up 630 home runs, was a ten-time Gold Glove recipient, and made the Major League All-Star team 13 times.  Mariners icon Edgar Martinez is also on the ballot for the seventh time, after being cited last year on 27-percent of returned ballots.  Seventy-five percent is required to make the Hall of Fame.

Pistons Blast Blazers In Fourth

(Portland, OR)  --  The Pistons outscored the Trail Blazers 41-11 in the fourth quarter as they rallied for a 120-103 win at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard posted 26 points and 11 assists to pace the Blazers, who fell to 4-and-3.  C.J. McCollum scored 18 points and Meyers Leonard had 17 in the setback.  Portland is right back in action tonight against the Nuggets in Denver.

Timbers Blank Whitecaps To Advance

(Vancouver, British Columbia) --  The Portland Timbers punched a ticket to the Western Conference final with a 2-0 win over Vancouver.  Diego Chara and Fanendo Adi had the goals for Portland, which will face FC Dallas in the final.  The first leg is on November 22nd.

Ducks Take Down Cal

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Ducks amassed a school-record 777 total yards in a 44-28 blow out of Pac-12 rival California at Autzen Stadium.  Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns for Oregon, which won its third straight game.  Royce Freeman ran for 180 of the 477 total rushing yards for the Ducks, who sit at 6-and-3.  The team hits the road next week for a showdown with 11th-ranked Stanford.

Beavers Shutout By Bruins

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers were shutout for the first time in five years in a 41-0 loss to UCLA at Reser Stadium.  Freshman quarterback Nick Mitchell threw three interceptions in his third straight start.  Oregon State allowed 674 total yards and has yet to win a conference game this season.  The team looks to snap a six-game losing streak when it heads Cal this weekend.

Eagles Clip Cowboys In OT

(Arlington, TX)  --  Sam Bradford's 41-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews in overtime gave the Eagles a 33-27 win over the Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football".  Philadelphia evened its record at 4-and-4.  Dallas has lost six straight in Tony Romo's absence.

Colts Hand Broncos First Loss

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  Peyton Manning's return to Indianapolis resulted in the Broncos' first loss of the year.  Andrew Luck threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Colts to a 27-24 win over Denver.  The Broncos dropped to 7-and-1.

(Columbia, MO)  --  Dozens of black football players at the University of Missouri say they won't take part in team activities unless university president Tim Wolfe resigns.  Wolfe has come under fire for his lack of action following a some racial incidents on campus.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers' backcourt combined for 11 three-pointers as they blew out the Grizzlies, 115-96, at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard knocked down seven from deep on his way to 27 points, while C.J. McCollum connected on four threes and scored 20 points.  Portland improved to a surprising 4-and-2 through six games.  The Blazers host Detroit on Sunday.

Mariota Returns To Action For Titans

(New Orleans, LA)  --  Marcus Mariota is in line to start for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday when they visit the New Orleans Saints.  The rookie signal-caller has missed the past two games due to a knee injury.  He was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.  Mariota has thrown for just over 12-hundred yards and nine touchdowns in his first pro season after winning the Heisman Trophy while at Oregon last year.

Mariners, Rays Complete Six-player Trade

(Seattle, WA)  --  Two pitchers and an outfielder are now with the Seattle Mariners' organization, following a six-player deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.  Seattle has sent utility man Brad Miller, first baseman Logan Morrison, and pitcher Danny Farquhar to the Rays for right-handed starter Nathan Karns, reliever C.J. Riefenhauser, and Minor League outfielder Boog Powell.  It was the first trade completed by new Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto.

(Portland, OR)  --  A report from Arizona's senate delegation shows the Portland Trail Blazers made tens of thousands on "paid patriotism" events.  A report from Senators Jeff Flake and John McCain shows the Blazers got about 35-thousand bucks for military promotion at games in 2012 and 2013.  Nationwide, more than nine-million dollars was spent on similar events with various professional teams.

UNC's Paige Sidelined With Broken Hand

Clemson Gets Top Spot In First Playoff Rankings

(Undated)  --  Clemson is number-one in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season.  The 8-and-0 Tigers got the nod over 7-and-0 LSU.  Defending national champion Ohio State and 7-and-1 Alabama round out the top four.  LSU and Alabama meet in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Titans Fire Whisenhunt

(Nashville, TN)  --  The NFL has claimed its second coaching casualty of the season.  The Titans have fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt after a 1-and-6 start to the year.  Former Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey will replace Whisenhunt on an interim basis.

Nationals Name Dusty Baker New Manager

(Washington, DC)  --  Dusty Baker is the new manager of the Nationals.  The 66-year-old Baker replaces Matt Williams, who was fired after the Nats failed to make the playoffs this past season.  Baker has been named Manager of the Year three times in his career.

Cowboys Waive RB Randle

(Irving, TX)  --  The Cowboys are giving running back Joseph Randle his walking papers.  The third-year back has been waived by the Cowboys.  Randle was already away from the team to deal with an unspecified personal issue.  He recently lost his starting job to Darren McFadden.

Mets Agree To New Two-Year Deal With Collins

(Flushing, NY)  --  The Mets didn't win it all, but they are still rewarding manager Terry Collins for a trip to the World Series.  They have agreed to a new two-year contract with the 66-year-old through 2017.  Collins just finished his fifth year with the Mets.

Blazers Spoil T'wolves Home Opener

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Damian Lillard dropped in a game-high 34 points as the Trail Blazers spoiled the Timberwolves home opener with a 106-101 victory at the Target Center.  C.J. McCollum netted 18 points, while Al-Farouq Aminu added 17 points and nine rebounds for Portland, which evened up its record at 2-and-2.  The Blazers remain on the road to visit the Utah Jazz tomorrow.

James Youngest To Reach 25-Thousand Points

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  Cavaliers star LeBron James is the youngest player to score 25-thousand career points in NBA history.  The 30-year-old James reached the milestone on a dunk in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's 107-100 win over the 76ers.  James is only the 20th player to ever reach the 25-thousand-point mark.

Oregon OC Accuses ASU Of Stealing Signs

(Eugene, OR)  -  Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost says Arizona State the "diligent" attempt at stealing signs he has ever seen.  Frost tells "Oregon Live" the Sun Devils were relentless last week in the Ducks' 61-55 triple overtime victory.  This is the second time a Pac-12 opponent has accused ASU of trying to steal signals, as Utah claimed the same thing after their October 17th tilt.

Broncos Acquire TE Davis From 49ers

(Englewood, CO)  --  The Broncos are beefing up their passing attack for the second half of the season.  Denver has acquired veteran tight end Vernon Davis from the 49ers.   Davis had 18 catches for 194 yards with San Francisco this season.  Meanwhile, the NFL trading deadline is at 4:00 p.m. Eastern today.

Panthers Sink Colts In OT To Stay Unbeaten

(Charlotte, NC)  --  Graham Gano's 52-yard field goal with just over five minutes left in overtime gave the Panthers a wild 29-26 win over the Colts on "Monday Night Football".  Indy scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth and briefly led in overtime before Gano's boot sent Carolina to 7-and-0.

Seahawks' Lockette Undergoes Neck Surgery

(Renton, WA)  --  Team officials say Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette has undergone successful neck surgery.  Lockette will be out for the season after he was the target of a violent block by the Cowboys' Jeff Heath during a punt return in Sunday's game.  Lockette suffered a concussion and serious neck ligament and disc issues.  Head coach Pete Carroll says it's too early to tell whether the injury is career-threatening.

Blazers Begin Brief Trip Tonight In Minnesota

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The Trail Blazers begin a brief two-game road trip tonight in Minnesota against the Timberwolves.  They will then head to Utah to play the Jazz on Wednesday.  The Blazers are 1-and-2 after losing both games in their home-and-home series with Phoenix.  The Wolves are 2-and-0. Tip-off on KBND is at 5:00 p.m.

Seahawks Eke Out 13-12 Win Over Dallas

(Arlington, TX)  --  The Seahawks are at .500 after squeezing out a win over the Dallas Cowboys, 13-12.  Steven Hauschka put Seattle ahead for good with a 26-yard field goal with a little over a minute remaining in yesterday's game.  Russell Wilson accounted for the Seahawks' only touchdown, with a 22-yard pass to Luke Willson in the second quarter.  Seattle will host division rival Arizona Next Sunday night in prime time.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers will move on to the second leg of their Western Conference semifinal, after battling Vancouver to a scoreless draw.  The Timbers can advance with a tie, should they net a goal at BC Place against the Whitecaps.  The second-leg match will begin at seven o'clock next Sunday night.

(Flushing, NY)  --  The Royals are World Series champions for the first time in 30 years.  Kansas City scored two runs in the ninth and five more in the 12th to pull out a 7-2 win over the Mets in Game Five of the Fall Classic.  The Royals clinched their first title since 1985.

Suns Down Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR)  --  Eric Bledsoe went off for 33 points as the Suns knocked off the Trail Blazers 101-90 at the Moda Center.  It was the second straight win for Phoenix over Portland as part of a home-and-home series.  Brandon Knight finished with 27 points while Tyson Chandler grabbed 11 boards.  Markieff Morris finished with 15 points for the 2-and-1 Suns.  Damian Lillard recorded 23 points and eight assists in the loss.  C.J. McCollum added 15 points and Allen Crabbe chipped in 11 off the bench.  The Trail Blazers sit at 1-and-2.
