Oregon rolls past Oregon State in Civil War

Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - The 118th installment of the
Civil War wasn't even close as Marcus Mariota led No. 3 Oregon to a
47-19 rout of Oregon State on Saturday.

Mariota polished off the regular season and his potential Heisman
Trophy campaign with six total touchdowns in helping the Ducks
(11-1, 8-1 Pac-12) down their in-state rival for the seventh
consecutive time.

He threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for
39 yards and two scores.

"It was the week of preparation," Mariota said of the offensive
success. "The coaches did an awesome job of preparing us for every
look that they were going to give us."

Oregon now sets its sights on a meeting with Arizona in the Pac-12
championship on Friday night. The Wildcats handed the Ducks their
lone loss of the season, a 31-24 setback in Eugene on Oct. 2.
Oregon has won seven consecutive games since.

Seahawks Shut Down 49ers, 19-3

(Santa Clara, CA) -- The Seattle Seahawks are poised for a run at the NFC West title, after last night's 19-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks defense held San Francisco to only 164 total yards, and Richard Sherman intercepted two Colin Kaepernick passes. Russell Wilson passed for 236 yards and a touchdown, and Marshawn Lynch rushed for 104 yards. Seattle will visit Philadelphia on December 7th to play the Eagles.

UO, OSU Set For Civil War Battle

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks are hoping to solidify their position among the top four college football teams in the country, when they play in the annual Civil War tomorrow night against Oregon State.  The Ducks have ten wins this year against one loss, and the Beavers will try to earn their sixth victory of the season and become bowl-eligible.  The Ducks have won six straight in the series, including last year's one-point victory in Eugene.  Kickoff tomorrow in Corvallis is set for five p.m.

Seahawks, 49ers Meet Tonight

(Santa Clara, CA)  --  Tonight's Seahawks-49ers game is considered the nightcap to a football-filled Thanksgiving.  What some are calling the NFL's biggest rivalry will be renewed at the 49ers' new facility, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.  The last contest between the two teams happened last January in the NFC Championship Game, which Seattle won, 23-17.  Kickoff for tonight's game is set for 5:30.

Blazers Top Hornets, 105-97

(Charlotte, NC)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers' winning streak is now at nine, thanks to a 105-97 road win over the Charlotte Hornets.  The Blazers overcame an eleven-point halftime deficit to take control in the second half.  Wesley Matthews scored 28 points and Damian Lillard added 22.  Portland will be back home to host the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night.

Seahawks-49ers Rated Tossup

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks' Thanksgiving night game with San Francisco is rated a tossup in Las Vegas.  The Seahawks gained ground on the Arizona Cardinals with last Sunday's 19-3 win at CenturyLink Field, and hope to build on that momentum when they visit the 49ers tomorrow night.  Both Seattle and San Francisco are seven-and-four heading into the contest.  Kickoff tomorrow is set for 5:30 p.m.
 

Ducks Still Second In Playoff Rankings

(Undated)  --  For the third straight week, Oregon is second in the College Football Playoff rankings.  The top four teams are the same as last week, with Alabama in front, followed by Oregon, Florida State, and Mississippi State.  The Ducks will play at Oregon State this Saturday. Pre-game at 3:00 p.m., kick-off at 5 o'clock here on KBND. Oregon will play for the PAC-12 Championship the following Saturday.  Oregon's opponent in that game will be either UCLA, Arizona, or Arizona State.
 

Seahawks Prep For 49ers

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks defense now leads the NFL in the category of yards allowed.  The Hawks will need to rely on that defense Thanksgiving night, when they take on Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers.  Head coach Pete  Carroll says Seattle came out injury-free from the win Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals, except for a sprained ankle suffered by tight end Cooper Helfet.  Kickoff Thursday in Santa Clara is set for 5:30 p.m.

Blazers Hold Off 76ers, 114-104

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are riding an eight-game winning streak, after last night's 114-104 victory in Philadelphia.  LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 33 points and eleven rebounds.  Wesley Matthews added 17 points and Damian Lillard scored 16.  The Blazers will visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow night.

Portland defeats Boston 94-88

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Portland defeated the Celtics, in Boston, 94-88 on Sunday.

 

The Trail Blazers were behind at the half but got hot from the field later in the game and finally erased a Boston lead that persisted through the entire first half.

 

Portland got great contributions from its bench, led by veterans Chris Kaman and Steve Blake.  Kaman scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards in 17 minutes, and Blake chipped in 11 on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.

 

The Blazers road trip continues in Philadelphia today.  Tip-off at 4:00 p.m.

Lynch To Appeal Fines

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch plans to appeal the 100-thousand dollars in fines imposed on him by the NFL.  Lynch's agent, Doug Hendrickson, told NBC's Mike Florio that Lynch was sore following the Kansas City loss last Sunday, and elected to quickly change and walk to the team bus to lie down rather than stay and speak with reporters.  The NFL slapped Lynch with the fines Wednesday, saying he violated the league's media policy.  Half the 100-grand was assessed for Sunday's violation, and the other half is a holdover from last season.

Lynch Fined $100K For Violating NFL Media Policy

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is having to pay 100-thousand dollars in fines for violating the NFL's policy regarding media access.  The amount includes 50-thousand dollars for walking out on reporters who wished to speak to Lynch following last Sunday's game in Kansas City, and the 50-thousand dollar fine that was imposed on him in 2013 but held in abeyance in anticipation of his future cooperation.  The league's policy requires players to be available to the media during the practice week at the team facility and in the locker room following all games.  Lynch has indicated he'll appeal the fines.

Alabama Takes Over Top Spot In Playoff Rankings

(Grapevine, TX)  --  Alabama has moved into the top spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.  The Crimson Tide took over number one after knocking off Mississippi State, who slipped from one to four.  Oregon and Florida State remain second and third, respectively.

Seahawks Sign Two, Release Two

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are making moves to shore up their injury-riddled offensive line.  The Hawks have re-signed center Lemuel Jeanpierre, who was Seattle's Number Two center last season.  Jeanpierre was placed on injured reserve earlier this year and was later waived, but is back with the team after starter Max Unger suffered injuries last Sunday that will keep him out for weeks.  The Seahawks have also signed defensive tackle Travian Robertson, and have  released tackle Andrew McDonald and defensive back Steven Terrell.

Seahawks Fan Says Marshawn Lynch Returned His Wallet

(Seattle, WA)  --  A Seahawks fan is an even bigger fan of "Beast Mode."  Jason Lynch, who's no relation, says Marshawn Lynch went out of his way yesterday to return Jason's wallet after it was accidentally dropped at a gas station in Marysville, Washington.  Jason says he dropped the wallet while he got distracted when he recognized the Seahawks' star running back, who pulled up in a large van at the gas station.  Jason says after he got home a few minutes later, his neighbor knocked on his door and handed him the wallet, saying Marshawn Lynch had dropped it off.

Seahawks Center Unger To Be Out For Weeks

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says center Max Unger will be out for three to four weeks as he recovers from a high ankle sprain and twisted knee.  Unger sustained the injuries in Sunday's loss in Kansas City.  Carroll says it's possible Unger will miss the remainder of the Seahawks' regular-season games.  The coach indicates he's looking at perhaps acquiring another player to add depth to the position.
 

Blazers Hold Off New Orleans, 102-93

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are seven-and-one at home this season, following a 102-93 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.  The Blazers exploded in the fourth quarter to erase the Pelicans' lead and earn their eighth win of the year.  Damian Lillard scored 24 points and dished out seven assists, while LaMarcus Aldridge added 22 points and nine rebounds.  Portland will host the Chicago Bulls Friday night.
 

Willamette U athlete in court on murder charge

(Salem, OR)  --  A Willamette University football player who's accused of killing a 66-year-old Salem man is charged with murder.  Twenty-one-year-old Beau Smith was arrested Wednesday, not far from where the body of Michael Hampshire was found.  Hampshire was lying next to a roadway when police arrived.  Smith is being held without bail.
 

Seahawks: Lynch Has New Rib Issue

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has missed two days of practice this week as the team prepares for Sunday's game against Kansas City.  The Seahawks listed Lynch with a "rib issue" yesterday, but there's no indication yet on how it will affect his participation in the game Sunday.  Lynch rushed for 140 yards and a career-high four touchdowns last Sunday against the New York Giants.
 

Blazers Smack Nuggets, 130-113

(Denver, CO)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are two-and-oh against the Denver Nuggets this season after last night's 130-113 win.  Damian Lillard scored 27 points and dished out nine assists to help Portland earn its first road win of the year.  Robin Lopez scored 19 points, while LaMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews each added 12.  The Blazers will host the Brooklyn Nets Saturday night.

Fernandez 2nd In Cy Young Balloting

(Seattle, WA)  --  Felix Hernandez isn't this year's A.L. Cy Young Award winner, but he did come in second.  The Seattle Mariners pitching ace lost to Cleveland pitcher Corey Kluber by ten points in the balloting.  Hernandez finished the 2014 season with the league's lowest ERA at two-point-14, a 15-and-6 record, and 248 strikeouts.  King Felix, in a news conference following the announcement, said he's disappointed but is also motivated to work harder and be better next year.

Sounders Advance After Draw With FC Dallas

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Sounders are heading to the MLS Western Conference Finals after battling to a 0-0 draw with FC Dallas at CenturyLink Field.  The Sounders won the two-game aggregate semifinal according to MLS away-goal tiebreaker rules.  They will play the L.A. Galaxy in the conference final to determine who will play in the MLS Cup Final.  The first leg of the final will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 23rd.

Seahawks' Mebane Out With Hamstring Injury

(Renton, WA)  --  Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says defensive tackle Brandon Mebane will be out of action for awhile after suffering a "really legit hamstring pull" during Sunday's game against the Giants.  Carroll says Mebane has had maybe the best season of his career, and his absence will be a "big hit to take" for the Seahawks.  Defensive tackles Kevin Williams, Tony McDaniel, and Tony Hill will be among those competing to fill the void.

Seahawks Pull Away From Giants, 38-17

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks remain two games back of NFC West leader Arizona, following a 38-17 victory over the New York Giants.  The Seahawks exploded for 21 fourth-quarter points after the third period ended with a 17-all tie.  Marshawn Lynch rushed for 140 yards and four touchdowns to help Seattle improve to six-and-three on the year.  The Seahawks will visit Kansas City next Sunday.

Blazers Defeat Nuggets, 116-100

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are winners of three of their last four games, following last night's 116-100 victory at home over the Denver Nuggets.  LaMarcus Aldridge scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Wesley Matthews added 21 points to help hand Denver its fifth straight loss.  The Blazers will host Charlotte tomorrow night.

Blazers Cruise Past Dallas, 108-87

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are winners of two straight, following their 108-87 defeat of the Dallas Mavericks.  The Blazers used a dominant second half to run past the Mavs and improve to 3-and-2 on the season.  LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points and Damian Lillard added 18.  The Blazers will visit the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow afternoon.
 

Ducks To Visit Utah Tomorrow Night

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  The Oregon Ducks are eight-point favorites heading into tomorrow night's game against Utah in Salt Lake City.  The Ducks are Number Four in the College Football Playoff rankings and are hoping to clinch the PAC-12 North title when they visit the Utes.  Oregon freshman running back Royce Freeman needs 154 yards to reach the one-thousand-yard mark for the season.  Kickoff tomorrow night is set for seven o'clock.
 

Seahawks Claim Dobbs Off Waivers From 49ers

(Renton, WA)  --  Former San Francisco 49ers defensive end DeMarcus Dobbs is now a Seahawk.  SeattlePI.com reports the Seahawks have been awarded Dobbs's contract after he was placed on waivers by the Niners.  The Seahawks have placed defensive lineman Greg Scruggs on injured reserve to make room for Dobbs on the roster.  Dobbs recorded ten tackles for San Francisco this season while serving as a backup to defensive end Justin Smith.

Oregon moves up

After suffering its second consecutive loss, Ole Miss is no longer in line for college football's final four this season.  Oregon replaces the Rebels at number-four of the College Football Playoff selection committee's second edition of the top-25 poll.  Mississippi State, Florida State and Auburn remain steady in the top three spots.  Alabama is fifth, followed by TCU, Kansas State, Michigan State, Arizona State and Notre Dame.  Mississippi falls to 11th, while Georgia drops from 11th to 20th after its loss to Florida.  The semifinal matchups will be announced on Sunday, December 7th.  The semifinals will be played on January 1st at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl.  The National Championship Game will take place January 12th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Blazers Humble Cleveland, 101-82

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers now turn their attention to Dallas after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers, 101-82.  Portland held LeBron James to eleven points as it dominated the final three quarters of last night's game.  Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 27 points, while Wesley Matthews added 21.  Portland will host the Mavericks tomorrow night at the Moda Center.
 

Playoff time in prep football, volleyball and soccer…

Coming up today at 2:30pm in girls first round soccer playoff action, top-ranked Sisters hosts North Valley of Grants Pass.

In the 5A division 4th ranked Summit girls greet number-14 Liberty of Hillsboro at 5pm on the westside of town at Summit high school.

5 Central Oregon high school football teams still putting on the pads in November with first round playoff games set for friday night.

The KBND game of the week will feature the top-ranked Mt. View cougars host the Corvallis spartans. The cougs are 8-and-1 while corvallis is just 4-and-5.

Summit making the playffs for second straight year ventures to eugene to face marist at willamette high school.

In the 4A division…Crook County plays at Junction City, and Sisters meets top-rated Gladstone.

The culver bulldogs head to knappa for the 2a playoffs.

On the volleyball hardwood…6 seniors make up the
IMC-Intermountain conference All-League team.

2nd ranked Bend dominates the honors with Callie Kruska, Carissa Scott and Molly Warinner all being named to the first team along with Renee Kenneally of Summit, Mikayla Schumacher of Mt. View and outside hitter Katrina Johnson.

Seahawks Hold Off Raiders, 30-24

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Seahawks are starting preparations to host their next game after beating the Oakland Raiders, 30-24.  Marshawn Lynch rushed for two scores to help Seattle build a 24-3 lead by halftime.  But the Hawks had to hold off a Raiders rally in the second half to improve to five-and-three on the season.  Seattle will play the New York Giants next Sunday at CenturyLink Field.
