High School Soccer Playoffs

The OSAA On-Point Community Credit Union boy’s soccer playoffs kicked off yesterday and as expected, 2nd ranked Summit defeated Liberty 2-1 to advance to Saturday’s 2nd Round hosting South Eugene. 

 

Ridgeview advances to the 5A Quarterfinals with their 4-1 over Eagle Point. The Ravens travel to face top-rated La Salle.

 

And, the Madras boy’s advance in the 4A playoffs with 3-1 win over McLoughlin High from Milton-Freewater. The Buffs host Newport Saturday.

 

The 6A Girl’s soccer playoffs continue today with second-round action for Summit who travels to meet #8 West Salem and Bend visits top-ranked Jesuit. Elsewhere, Ridgeview entertains Silverton today at 5p.

Blazers Shoot Down Rockets

(Houston, TX)  --  Jusuf Nurkic had 22 points and 10 boards to help the Trail Blazers down the Rockets 104-85 in Houston.  Damian Lillard  also scored 22 points, while CJ McCollum contributed 19 points.  Portland went 3-and-1 on its trip and will return home tomorrow night to face New Orleans in the opener of a six-game homestand.

Hebert, Mitchell Status Remain Up In Air

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said he expects to learn today whether quarterback Justin Herbert and leading receiver Dillon Mitchell will be cleared to play Saturday against UCLA.  Both are in concussion protocol and have not practiced this week.  Hebert has completed 60 percent of his passes for more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.  Mitchell leads the Ducks with 48 receptions for 677 yards.  Braxton Burmeister and Tyler Shough are taking snaps with the Ducks first team and would play in Hebert's absence.

Timbers At Dallas Tonight In MLS Playoffs

(Frisco, TX)  --  The Timbers will play at FC Dallas tonight in a MLS knockout-round.  The Timbers enter the playoffs as a Western Conference fifth-seed with 54 points.  They dropped their regular-season finale 2-1 to the Whitecaps Sunday in Vancouver.  Dallas is seeded fourth with 57 points.

(Undated)  --  In local college football action this Saturday, Oregon will try to bounce back from two-straight Pac-12 defeats when it hosts UCLA and former Ducks coach Chip Kelly, Oregon State will try to build on its 28-point come-from-behind victory at Colorado when its hosts USC and Portland State will attempt to extend its winning streak to four straight when it entertains Idaho State.

Seahawks Release Brandon Marshall

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are shuffling the roster as they prep to host the Chargers on Sunday.  The team released veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall yesterday.  The 34-year-old got just two offensive snaps against the Lions last Sunday and was targeted only twice in the last three games.  In other roster news, linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who was suspended earlier this month, will be eligible to play in Week 14.  Kendricks pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges in September.

Seahawks Prep For Chargers

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back on the practice field.  They welcome the LA chargers to CenturyLink Field on Sunday.  Seattle has won four-of-five after and 0-and-2 start.  The Bolts have won four-straight and are 5-and-2.

College Football Preview

(Undated)  --  In local college football action this Saturday, Oregon will try to bounce back from two-straight defeats when it hosts UCLA and former Ducks coach Chip Kelly, Oregon State will try to build on its 28-point come-from-behind victory at Colorado when its hosts USC and Portland State will attempt to extend its winning streak to four straight when it entertains Idaho State.  Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert and wide receiver Dillon Mitchell are in concussion protocol and their status for the UCLA game remains up in the air.

Blazers Top Pacers On Road

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  CJ McCollum and reserve Zach Collins each scored 17 points to help the Trail Blazers down the Pacers 103-93 in Indianapolis.  Damian Lillard added 16 points for Portland.  Al-Farouq Aminu [[ Al-Fah-Ruke Ah-ME-new ]] and Caleb Swanigan each contributed 11 points and 10 boards as the Blazers improved to 4-and-2.  The Blazers will play the Rockets tonight in Houston.

Seahawks Hope To Have DE Green Back Sunday

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks hope to have defensive end Rasheem Green back on the field this Sunday against the Chargers.  They held him out of this past Sunday's game against the Lions to give him one more week to rest his sprained ankle.  Green has missed the Seahawks' last four games.

Seahawks Home Sunday Against Chargers

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are back home this Sunday to host the Los Angeles Chargers.  Seattle won its second straight 28-14 this past Sunday in Detroit.  The Seahawks have won four of their last five games to climb above .500 at 4-and-3.  LA has won four in-a-row to improve to 5-and-2.

High School Volleyball

Bend has made the OSAA state voleyball playoffs and play McMinnville in the first round. Summit plays Canby at home. Sisters also has a playoff spot but has no opponent yet. 

 

In Intermountain Conference play, Crook County travels to Pendelton. And Ridgeview hosts Putnam in a non-league match. 

Wizards Squeak By Blazers In OT

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard led all scorers with 29 points, but the Trail Blazers lost 125-124 in overtime to the Wizards in Portland.  Otto Porter Junior blocked Lillard's layup attempt at the buzzer.  Jusuf Nurkic had 22 points and 18 boards and Al-Farouq Aminu 16 points and 15 boards in the defeat.  The Blazers lost for the first time in three games.  Portland will play its next four on the road, beginning Thursday in Orlando.

(Undated)  --  In college football action on Saturday, number-21 Oregon will play Arizona in Tucson, Oregon State will be at Colorado and Portland State will visit Sacramento State after being idle last week.

Timbers Returning To Playoffs

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers are returning to the MLS playoffs for the second straight year.  They will conclude the regular season Sunday against the Whitecaps in Vancouver.  Portland does not know yet who it will play in a knockout round game on October 31st or November 1st.  The Timbers are fifth in the West, but could wind up as high as third depending on the MLS results this weekend.

Looking at the Friday Night prep football scoreboard, Summit beat South Salem 25-21, Bend lost a non-league game at Lakeridge, 35-23, and Mt. View lost at Sprague, 24-6.

 

In the 5A, Thurston overpowered Ridgeview for the regular season League crown, 71-38. Redmond got a win downing Springfield, 59-41. 

 

From the 4A class, Crook County lost at Estacada, 28-20 and Sisters beaten at Stayton, 41-3. Elsewhere, Madras shutout Corbett, 24-0,  LaPine blasted Siuslaw, 50-to-7, and Kennedy smashed Culver, 54-zip.

Oregon Loses At Washington State

(Pullman, WA)  --  Oregon fell 34-20 at Washington State in a clash Saturday of ranked teams in Pullman.  The Ducks dropped from 12th to 21st in the coaches football poll.  Oregon is 5-and-2 and 2-and-2 in Pac-12 play.  The Ducks will play this Saturday at Arizona in Tucson.

Blazers Facing Wizards Tonight

(Portland, OR)  --  The Blazers will try to make it three straight wins to start the season when they host Washington tonight at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard scored 29 points Saturday in a 121-108 decision over San Antonio.  Portland will go on the road for their next four games after playing the Wizards. Tip-off tonight at 7 on KBND.

Timbers Win, Clinch Playoff Berth

(Portland, OR)  -- The Timbers shut down Real Salt Lake 3-0 yesterday to wrap up a MLS playoff berth.  Portland has 54 points and is in fifth place in the MLS West.  The Timbers will play the Whitecaps this coming Sunday in Vancouver in their regular season finale.

Cal Clobbers Oregon State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is in the basement of the Pac-12 North after an embarrassing 49-7 loss to Cal in Corvallis.  The Beavers are 0-and-4 in conference play, while the Bears picked up their first Pac-12 win.  Oregon State will play this Saturday at Colorado.

Blazers Spoil LeBron's Lakers Debut

(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard netted a game-high 28 points as the Trail Blazers spoiled LeBron James' Lakers debut with a 128-119 win in Portland.  Nik Stauskas scored 24 points off the bench, while C.J. McCollum added 21 for the Blazers, who have won 16 straight over LA.  Jusuf Nurkic posted 16 points and nine rebounds in the victory.  The Blazers host the Spurs tomorrow.

Oregon State Hosts Cal

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is home tomorrow to clash with Cal.  The Beavers are still seeking their first conference win.  They sit at 1-and-5 on the season and 0-and-3 in the Pac-12. 

Oregon Visits Washington State

(Pullman, WA)  --  Oregon heads to Pullman to take on Washington State in a top-25 clash.  The 12th-ranked Ducks sit at 5-and-1 on the season and 2-and-1 in Pac-12 play.  The Cougars are also 5-and-1 and 2-and-1.

Seahawks On A Bye

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are enjoying their bye week and will not be in action this weekend.  After a 3-and-3 start to the season they are in second place in the NFC West behind the 6-and-0 Rams.  The Seahawks will return to action a week from Sunday at Detroit.

(Portland, OR)  -- The Timbers are back in action Sunday hosting Real Salt Lake at Providence Park.  Portland is currently fifth in the Western Conference with 51 points.  Real Salt Lake sits sixth with 46 points.

On the prep hardwood tonight in 6A Mountain Valley Conference volleyball, 6th ranked Summit hosts West Salem and #11 Bend entertains Sprague. Summit and Sprague enter the night tied for the league lead and Summit, Sprague and Bend have all earned automatic playoff berths.
 

Blazers Host Lakers In Season Opener

The Portland Trail Blazers' season opener is tonight at the Moda Center...and the team is planning special honors for owner Paul Allen who died this week. The players will have a special patch on their uniforms with Allen's initials and a rose. It's a big game for the Blazers, because they play the Los Angeles Lakers. It'll be LeBron James' first regular season game playing for the Lakers. Tip-off is at 7:30 on KBND.

On the prep volleyball floor last night, 6th ranked Summit turned back #11 Bend, 3-1. The Storm share the 6A Mountain Valley Conference lead with Sprague with one game to go in the regular season. West Salem defeated Mt. View, 3-1.

 

Ridgeview takes over first place in the 5A IMC as the Ravens avenged a loss to Crook County two weeks ago beating the Cowgirls, 3-2. The Dalles blanked Redmond, 3-zip.

 

Tonight, Madras finishes the regular season hosting Estacada and in the 2A division 7th ranked Culver has already clinched a playoff spot finishes its schedule entertaining Santiam.

Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen Dies At 65

(Seattle, WA)  --  Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is dead at the age of 65.  He died yesterday from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Seattle.  Allen founded Microsoft alongside Bill Gates in 1975.  Allen also owned the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and the NBA's Trail Blazers.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon football program has gained a commitment for the class of 2020.  Tight end Seth Figgins committed to the Ducks over USC, Texas and Arizona State.  The Westlake High School standout is regarded as the seventh-best tight end in the class of 2020 according to 24/7 Sports.

Ducks Jump To 11th In Coaches Poll

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks have climbed to 11th in the Amway Football Coaches Poll after beating Washington 30-27 Saturday at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.  The Huskies entered the game ranked seventh with a 5-and-1 record.  Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert completed 18 of 32 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.  Freshman CJ Verdell rushed 29 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the win.  The 5-and-1 Ducks will play at Number-23 Washington State this Saturday.

Trail Blazers Open Season Against Lakers On Thursday

(Portland, OR)  --  The King is coming.  The Trail Blazers will tipoff their NBA season on Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Moda Center.  The Lakers made the biggest off-season splash by signing LeBron James.  Portland wrapped up its preseason with a 118-115 triumph over Sacramento.  The Blazers went 3-and-2 in exhibition games.  They waived Gary Payton the Second, Cameron Oliver and Chinanu Onuaku to reach the roster limit of 15.

Portland State Wins Two In A Row

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State downed Northern Colorado 35-14 on Saturday at Providence Park to win its second straight Big Sky game.  Quarterback Davis Alexander ran for three touchdowns and completed six-of-nine passes for 90 yards in the victory.  The Vikings are off this week.

Seahawks Drop Raiders In London

(London, England)  --  The Seahawks made easy work of the lowly Raiders in London with a 27-3 victory at Wembley Stadium.  Russell Wilson passed for three touchdowns and an interception while the Seattle defense shut down the Oakland offense.  Frank Clark finished with two-and-a-half sacks out of six total for the 3-and-3 Seahawks.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers will conclude their preseason tonight when they host the Sacramento Kings at the Moda Center.  Portland is coming off a 116-83 victory over the Suns on Wednesday.  The Blazers will open the NBA season on October 18th when they host Los Angeles with LeBron James making his Lakers' debut.

Ducks Chosen First In Conference Cage Poll

(Undated)  --  Oregon was picked to capture the Pac-12 men's basketball title in a media poll that was released yesterday.  The Ducks finished sixth in the conference last year, but return Payton Pritchard, who led the team in scoring, and forward Paul White.  Oregon picked up 16 first-place ballots, while UCLA was second with six first-place votes.  Oregon State was selected 10th.  The Beavers went 16-and-16 last season.

On the prep volleyball courts last night, 6th ranked Sisters blanked Stayton 3-zip in a key Oregon West Conference match keeping the Outlaws within one-half game behind Sweet Home for the League banner. Sisters hosts Sweet Home Monday to finish the regular season.

 

Elsewhere, Madras kept its postseason hopes alive with perhaps an at-large bid by defeating Gladstone 3-games to 1.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers jumped out to a 21-point lead after one quarter and crushed the Phoenix Suns 116-83 in a preseason game at the Moda Center.  Jake Layman led Portland with 26 points, while Wade Baldwin the Fourth contributed 15 points off the bench.  Portland will wrap up its preseason tomorrow when the Kings come to town.  The Blazers will open the NBA season on October 18th when they host Los Angeles with LeBron James making his Lakers' debut.

Former OSU Vaulter, Cager Tex Winter Dies

(Manhattan, KS)  --  Tex Winter, a Hall of Fame basketball coach and innovator of the triangle offense, died in Manhattan, Kansas.  He was 96.  He was a pole vaulter and basketball player at Oregon State in the early 1940s.  He met his wife Nancy at Oregon State.  Both entered the United States Navy in 1943.  Winter implemented his unique offense as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, helping them win several NBA crowns.

On the prep Volleyball courts last night, Summit beat McKay and Bend blanked Mt. View. In the 5A division, Hood River scored a 3-2 upset win at Crook County and Ridgeview blanked Redmond 3-zip to take over the IMC lead. And, Pleasant Hill escapes with a 3-2 win at La Pine.

 

Elsewhere, on the girl’s soccer field, Summit thrashed Sprague, 
9-to-nothing. The Storm boy’s were 4-zip winners.

 

Today, Madras girls hosts North Marion, and Sisters travels to Philomath. The boys play at opposite veneus.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks will practice at home today before heading to the airport.  They are flying to London ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders at Wembley Stadium.  It's the first time Seattle will play a regular-season game overseas.  This is the Raiders' fourth trip to London.  They lost to the Patriots last year.

Carroll Seeks London Advice From Bradley

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is getting advice from a former assistant on the team's trip to London.  He reached out to Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who coached the Jaguars four times in London during his tenure.  Bradley told Carroll to make sure the distractions don't become overwhelming.

On the prep volleyball courts tonight with just two weeks remaining in the regular season, 8th ranked Summit hosts McKay. Mt. View greets Bend in a huge game for the Cougars who need a few wins to tie the Lava Bears for the 3rd and final league playoff spot.

(Portland, OR)  --  Forwards Evan Turner and Moe Harkless are nursing injuries as the Trail Blazers prepare for a preseason home game tomorrow night against the Suns.  Turner has a sore left shoulder and was held out of practice.  Harkless has left knee and right ankle issues, but did return to practice.  Neither played in Sunday's loss to the Jazz at the Moda Center.

Bell Not Allowed To Transfer To Oregon State

(Lincoln, NE)  --  When Nebraska permitted running back Greg Bell his scholarship release, there were stipulations.  He is prohibited from transferring to any Big Ten school, future NU non-conference foes through 2021 and Oregon State.  Recent transfers in quarterback Tristan Gebbia, receiver Tyjon Lindsey and linebacker Avery Roberts wound up with the Beavers.  Bell was a highly-touted junior college recruit and started the first three Huskers games.

Seattle NHL Group Unveils Plans For Training Center

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle's would-be NHL ownership group is unveiling plans for a 70-million-dollar training facility near Northgate Mall.  The plan calls for three full-sized rinks and office space to serve as team headquarters.  Seattle's bid for an expansion franchise is expected to get final approval in December.

Seahawks Getting Set For London

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are getting set to play in London this weekend.  They take on the Oakland Raiders Sunday at Wembley Stadium in the first of the NFL's International Games this season.  The Seahawks are 2-and-3 after this past Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Rams.  The Raiders are 1-and-4.

Trail Blazers Fall To Jazz

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Trail Blazers lost 123-112 to the Utah Jazz last night in a preseason game at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard scored 23 points and C.J. McCollum 21 in the loss.  Jusuf Nurkic had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in the defeat.

Seahawks Ground Game A Positive

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks put up a season-high 190 rushing yards against the Rams on Sunday.  Chris Carson carried 19 times for 116 yards and Mike Davis added 68 yards and a score on the ground.  Right guard D.J. Fluker said after the game that they literally kicked the Rams' butt up front all day.

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks dropped a 33-31 slugfest to the Rams at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle took a 31-24 lead into the fourth quarter before LA rallied.  Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes in defeat, including two to David Moore.  Seattle is 2-and-3 and will host the Raiders this Sunday.

KD Scores 26 In Key Arena Return

(Seattle, WA)  --  Former SuperSonics star Kevin Durant scored 26 points in his return to Key Arena.  The current Warriors forward played 26 minutes in Golden State's 122-94 preseason win over the Kings on Friday night.  Durant spent one season in Seattle before the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City.

Durant Wants NBA Team In Seattle

(Seattle, WA)  --  Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant believes Seattle deserves another shot at an NBA team.  In an interview with ESPN, the two-time champion said Seattle definitely deserves an NBA team and believes it will eventually happen.  Durant was selected second overall by the Seattle Supersonics in the 2007 NBA Draft.  The nine-time NBA All-Star will make his return to Key Arena tomorrow when the Warriors face the Kings in a preseason matchup.

Seahawks Sign Two Safeties

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are filling some roster holes prior to Sunday's game against the undefeated Rams.  Seattle has signed veteran safeties Maurice Alexander and T.J. Green to replace Earl Thomas, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.  The Seahawks also promoted tight end Darrell Daniels to the active roster one day after moving Will Dissly to IR.  Seattle is 2-and-2 after winning its last two.

Oregon Mentioned In NCAA Scandal

(New York, NY)  --  Oregon is being accused as one of the universities potentially involved in the NCAA pay-for-play scandal.  Former Adidas executive Jim Gatto and his defense attorney Casey Donnelly stated that "Oregon offered an astronomical amount of money for the commitment of former five-star recruit Brian Bowen."  Gatto claims they only offered 100-thousand dollars to the former McDonald's All-American because Louisville coaches feared Oregon offered more.  The University of Oregon responded to the allegations and confirmed that there is currently no connection between the school and the scandal.

NHL's Seattle Bid Moving Forward

(New York, NY)  --  An NHL franchise in Seattle is getting closer to reality.  The league's executive committee voted 9-0 on Tuesday to move Seattle's expansion bid to a full board of governors vote, which will take place in December.  The 31-member board needs a three-quarters majority vote for expansion, but NHL commission Gary Bettman is confident that will get done.  KeyArena in Seattle has been approved for a 700-million-dollar renovation, granted that the NHL officially awards the city a team in December.

Seahawks Place Thomas On IR

(Renton, WA)  --  The Earl Thomas era is over in Seattle.  The Seahawks placed the Pro Bowl safety on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season.  Thomas held out for a new contract all offseason to no avail, and elected to return to the team with one year left on his deal.  He had three interceptions in four games before breaking his leg in Sunday's win over Arizona.  Seattle also placed tight end Will Dissly on IR with a patellar tendon injury.

NFL Suspends LB Kendricks Indefinitely

(Seattle, WA)  --  The NFL is suspending Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks indefinitely.  Kendricks recently pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges, which led to his release by the Cleveland Browns during training camp.  The Seahawks signed him to a deal last month and he has played three games for them, recording two sacks.  Kendricks will be sentenced to prison in January.

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Trail Blazers head to Phoenix to square off against the Suns on Friday.  Portland is coming off a 122-104 loss to the Raptors in its preseason opener.  Phoenix also came up short in its first preseason game, losing to the Kings 106-102 at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Allen Diagnosed With Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

(Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen is battling cancer once again.  The 65-year-old has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for the second time in less than a decade.  Doctors have already began treatment for the disease.  Allen has owned the Blazers since 1988 and the Seahawks since 1997.

Mariners Part Ways With Stottlemyre

(Seattle, WA) --  The Mariners are parting ways with pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre.  Seattle manager Scott Servais announced yesterday that Stottlemyre will not be returning to the team next season.  The M's posted a 4.13 ERA, which was the seventh lowest in the league.  The 54-year-old pitching coach spent three years with Seattle.

Alabama First, Georgia Now Second In Coaches' Poll

(Undated)  --  Alabama remains first and Georgia is now second in this week's Top-25 Coaches' Poll.  The Bulldogs and Ohio State both moved up a spot to second and third, respectively.  Clemson fell two spots to fourth after slipping past Syracuse 27-23.  Oklahoma is still sixth, while LSU, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Auburn and Washington round out the top-10.  Stanford dropped seven spots to 14th after losing 38-17 at Notre Dame.  Colorado and NC State jumped into the rankings this week.  They replace Mississippi State and Duke. 

Trail Blazers Fall To Raptors In Preseason Opener

(Vancouver, British Columbia) --  Myers Leonard led the way for the Trail Blazers with 14 points off the bench in their 122-104 loss to the Raptors in Vancouver.  Portland will continue preseason play against the Suns on Friday in Phoenix.  The Blazers are currently 0-and-1.

Timbers Tie With FC Dallas

(Portland, OR)  --  Neither team was able to find the back of the net as the Timbers battled FC Dallas to a scoreless draw at Providence Park.  Portland is fourth in the MLS West with 48 points, which trails first place Dallas by six points.  The Timbers will visit Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

Seahawks' Thomas Breaks Leg

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks safety Earl Thomas is out indefinitely with a lower left leg fracture. The six-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury in last night's 20-17 win over the Cardinals.  Thomas suffered a similar season-ending injury to the same leg in 2016.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  Sebastian Janikowski drilled the game-winning 52-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Seahawks past the Cardinals 20-17 in Glendale. Mike Davis rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help Seattle pick up its second straight victory.  The Seahawks improved to 2-and-2 on the season.

Mariners Dump Rangers In Season Finale

(Seattle, WA)  --  Roenis Elias tossed five innings of scoreless ball to lead the Mariners past the Rangers 3-1 at Safeco Field.  Seattle improved its win total from a season ago by 11 games with a record of 89-and-73.  The M's will miss the playoffs for the 17th year in-a-row, which is the longest drought in U.S. professional sports.
