Trail Blazers 102, Kings 89

PORTLAND, Ore. -- CJ McCollum scored 20 points and passed out seven assists as Portland ended a six-game losing streak with a victory over Sacramento at Moda Center.

Meyers Leonard came off the bench to match his season high with 16 points for the Trail Blazers, who had lost 10 of their previous 11 outings. Mason Plumlee added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Portland.

DeMarcus Cousins delivered 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Kings, who had won four in a row. Garrett Temple added 14 points for Sacramento.

Oregon Hands UCLA First Loss

(Eugene, OR)  --  Number-21 Oregon tagged number-two UCLA with its first loss of the season, 89-87, in Eugene.  Dillon Brooks' three at the buzzer sent the Ducks to 12-and-2.  Brooks finished with 23 points.  The Bruins fell to 13-and-1 despite 20 points apiece from Bryce Alford and Thomas Welsh.  It was the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Timbers Acquire Guzman

(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers are acquiring midfielder David Guzman from Deportivo Saprissa.  The 26-year-old has also made 25 appearances for the Costa Rica National Team.  Guzman will occupy an international spot on Portland's roster, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

Trail Blazers Host Spurs

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers welcome the San Antonio Spurs to the Moda Center tonight.  Portland has dropped eight of its past nine games to fall to 13-and-18 on the season.  San Antonio sits atop the Southwest Division at 23-and-6.

Bennett, Ryan Appear Set To Play Against Cardinals

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says defensive lineman Michael Bennett will be ready to play tomorrow against Arizona after suffering a neck injury last Thursday against the Rams.  Carroll also says punter Jon Ryan should be ready to go after taking a blow to the head in the Rams game while executing a fake punt.  Carroll says the extra days between games this week have enabled the team to devote more time to intense practices.  Kickoff tomorrow is set for 1:25 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.

OSU Selects Barnes

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Scott Barnes is the new Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Oregon State University.  A news conference will be held on Thursday to officially welcome Barnes.  He will begin his new duties on Monday, February 13th, 2017.

Beavers Pull Away From Kent State

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Kendal Manuel scored a team-high 17 points as Oregon State pulled away from Kent State, 69-50, in Corvallis.  The Beavers led by one at halftime, but stepped on the gas in the second half.  Jaquori McLaughlin had 14 points and eight assists as Oregon State improved to 4-and-9.  The Beavers open Pac-12 play against USC next Wednesday.

Blazers' Rally Falls Short

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are struggling through a four-game losing streak after falling short last night, 96-95, against Dallas.  After Portland had a slow start in the first half, Damian Lillard missed a potential game-winning three-pointer in the final second of the game.  Lillard finished with 29 points.  The Blazers will host San Antonio tomorrow night.

Freeman, Crosby Return For Ducks Football

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon running back Royce Freeman and left tackle Tyrell Crosby have announced they will return to Eugene for their senior seasons.  Freeman is second in Duck history with 4,146 rushing yards after just three seasons.  Crosby has been a starter since he was a freshman, but missed nine games this year with a foot injury.

OSU Offers AD Job To Pitt's Barnes

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State University has offered its open athletic director job to current Pittsburgh AD Scott Barnes.  The two sides are currently in negotiations, according to OregonLive.  If hired, Barnes would replace Todd Stansbury, who left to take the AD job at Georgia Tech.

Timbers Open Regular Season March 3rd

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Timbers have announced they will host Minnesota United FC in their 2017 season opener on March 3rd at Providence Park.  The game is also the MLS regular season opener.  Minnesota United FC is an expansion club that will begin play next season.

Wagner Could Break Seahawks Record Saturday

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner could break a team record this Saturday when Seattle plays Arizona.  Wagner needs nine tackles against the Cardinals to break the franchise record of 153 tackles in a single season, set in 1978 by Terry Beeson.  Wagner currently leads the NFL in tackles with 145.  He was one of four Seahawks named earlier this week to this season's Pro Bowl.

Portland Thorns Announce Open Tryouts

(Portland, OR)  --  For women who'd like a shot at playing pro soccer, the Portland Thorns are hosting open tryouts on February 18th and 19th at Providence Park.  Prospective players must be over 18 and have to register at the team website.  The registration fee is 115-dollars and previous college or pro experience is required.

Wild final minutes in Sacramento

The Portland Trailblazers had quite a battle last night in Sacramento to close a mini 3-game road trip. In the end, the Kings grind out a 126-121 win over Portland in a heated game.

Fined, ejected in the final minute, then retrieved from the locker room after a Technical Foul call was rescinded, DeMarcus Cousins capped a wild day with his dominant performance on the court for the Kings with 55 points. That came hours after he was fined by the Kings for his profanity-laced tirade against a Sacramento reporter last week.

CJ McCollom led Portland with 36 and Mason Plumlee had a career high 27 points. The Blazers play another back-to-backer hosting the Dallas Mavericks tonight. We have the tipoff and broadcast with Brian Wheeler coming your way on KBND at 7pm.
 

High School Sports

Some action on the prep floors during the Holiday break…last night Marist ran past Ridgeview, 65-40. Madras lost at Cottage Grove, 65-56. Today, Mt.View hosts Marist, Redmond plays at the South Albany tournament, Bend visits Lakeridge, Sisters travels to The Dalles, and La Pine ventures to Illinois Valley.

ON the Girls side…the Lady Lava Bears of Bend knocked off Springfield in overtime, 58-54. Redmond downed Bandon, 57-40, and Silverton demolished Mt. View, 74-29. Elsewhere, La Pine beat Klamath Union, 56-43. Madras beats Cottage Grove, 45-35. North Marion runs by Crook County, 43-22, and Culver beats Sisters, 44-23.

On the college hardwood…the 20th ranked Ducks ran out to a 14-point lead early and went on to beat Fresno State in Eugene last night, 75-63. Oregon enters League Play Wednesday with an 11-and-2 record hosting UCLA.

Meantime….the Oregon State Beavers take on Kent State tonight for the Beavers preseason finale at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis. OSU is hoping for only its 4th win against 9 losses on the season. League play tips off next Wednesday with UCLA and USC, both undefeated, coming to the State.

Last night around the Pac…#18 Arizona blitzed New Mexico by 31-points, 77-46. The Cats from Tucson improve to 11-and-2. 9th ranked Creighton sinks 14 three point shots to bury Arizona State, 96-85…and Washington downs Cal-Poly, 77-61.

Coaches, Teammates No Problem With Lillard's Remarks

(Portland, OR)  --  Teammates and coaches aren't having any issue with strong remarks made by star guard Damian Lillard.  He had some guided words for his teammates after Saturday night's 45-point loss to the Golden State Warriors in Oakland.  Lillard's coaches and teammates seemed unconcerned about their dirty laundry being aired in public.

5th Bowl game of the season…and, only 39 more to go leading up to the National Title game on January 9th, and in Baca Raton, Western Kentucky finished the year smashing Memphis last night, 51-31.

Tonight, in San Diego it’s the Poinsettia Bowl with Wyoming facing B-Y-U in a 6pm kickoff on ESPN-TV. The Cowboys of Wyoming are 8-and-5 and feature Tight End Jacob Hollister from Mt. View High School. Hollister led the Cougars in 2011 to the State Championship. B-Y-U is 8-and-4.

Tomorrow afternoon at 4pm is the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise with Colorado State meeing upstart Idaho.

Oregon Bounces Fresno State

(Eugene, OR)  --  Jordan Bell put up 23 points to help number-21 Oregon beat Fresno State, 75-63, in Eugene.  Oregon improved to 11-and-2.  The Ducks open Pac-12 play next week at home against second-ranked UCLA.

OSU Extends Gary Anderson

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is locking up head football coach Gary Anderson a couple more seasons.  Anderson has signed an extension to keep him under contract at OSU through the 2021 season.  He guided the Beavers to 4-and-8 record during his second season in Corvallis.  Coach Derrick Odum has left OSU to become the next defensive coordinator at San Jose State.

Four Seahawks Named To Pro Bowl

(Renton, WA)  --  Four Seattle Seahawks are among the players named to this season's Pro Bowl.  They include Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, Michael Bennett, and Cliff Avril.  It's the first appearance on the list for Avril, who's had eleven-and-a-half sacks so far this season.  Eight Seahawks have been named as Pro Bowl alternates, including Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Kam Chancellor, Justin Britt, Jimmy Graham, Tyler Lockett , Steven Hauschka, and K.J. Wright.
 

OSU Finishes Non-Conference Schedule Tonight

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State men's hoops closes out its brutal non-conference schedule tonight.  The Beavers host Kent State in Corvallis.  OSU has lost five straight to drop to 3-and-9 overall.  The Golden Flashes are 7-and-4 on the season.  Tip from Gill Coliseum at eight o'clock.

The Portland Trailblazers look to find snap out of the tail-spin they’ve been in tonight when they play the Kings in Sacramento with the tipoff and broadcast coming your way here on KBND at 7:30 p.m.  
The Blazers have lost two in a row, and 6 of their last 7 games to fall to 13-and-16 on the season.  The Good news is Portland plays the next 4-games at home inside the Moda Center beginning tomorrow night with the Dallas Mavericks, then San Antonio Friday night.

NFL

Bud Light Monday Night Football last night saw the Carolina Panthers beat the Redskins in D-C, 25-16. Cam Newton threw for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Panthers in the win, and former Duck star Jonathan Stewart rushed for 132-yards. With the loss, the Skins are all but out of the playoff running while Carolina has a shot at a Wild-card spot. Coming up Thursday night, The Eagles host the Giants.

Five of 44 Bowl games are in the books after Tulsa routed Central Michigan, 55-10 in the Miami Beach Bowl.  Today at 4pm, it’s the Boca Raton Bowl with Western Kentucky meeting Memphis. Tomorrow night, it’s the San Diego Poinsettia Bowl with Wyoming facing BYU. Former Mt. View State Champion quarterback Jacob Hollister is the starting Tight End for Wyoming in his Senior season for the Cowboys.

#21 Oregon Wraps Up Non-Conference Slate

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon men's basketball wraps up its non-conference slate tonight in Eugene.  The 21st-ranked Ducks welcome Fresno State at Matthew Knight Arena.  Oregon has won eight in-a-row to improve to 10-and-2 overall.  The Bulldogs are 8-and-3.  Tip set for 8 o'clock.

Blazers Visit Kings Tonight

(Sacramento, CA)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers visit the Sacramento Kings tonight.  The Blazers have lost six of their last seven games to fall to 13-and-16 on the season.  The Kings have alternated wins and losses in their last four games to move their record to 10-and-17 overall.  Tip from Sac-town at 7:30.

Taggart Adds To Coaching Staff

(Eugene, OR)  --  New Oregon head football coach Willie Taggart continues to build his coaching staff.  Football Scoop.com reports Taggart has hired Michigan offensive assistant Jimmie Dougherty to coach UO's wide receivers.  The move follows last week's hiring of former Colorado defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt for the same role with the Ducks.

Seahawks Prep For Struggling Cardinals

(Renton, WA)  --  The NFC West champion Seahawks have only two games remaining in the regular season, and need to win both to secure a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs.  Seattle will host Arizona this Saturday after the Cardinals were eliminated from playoff consideration by the Saints last Sunday.  The Seahawks will close out the regular season on New Year's Day at San Francisco.

Evidence Suppression Allowed In Ridgewell's DUI Case

(Lake Oswego, OR)  --  A Lake Oswego Municipal Court judge is granting a motion to suppress evidence against Timbers captain Liam Ridgewell.  The motion relates to his October arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.  The judge believes Ridgewell's traffic stop by police was illegal because it wasn't supported by probable cause of a violation or reasonable suspicion that the soccer player had or was going to witness a crime.

The Blazers away from the Moda Center on a 3-game mini road trip where Golden State rolled Portland Saturday night in Oakland by 45 points, 135-to-90. The Blazers 13-and-15 on the year have lost 6 of their last 7 and will take on the Kings in Sacramento tomorrow night with tipoff here on KBND at 730pm.

In college hoops…the 22nd ranked Ducks will play their final preseason game of the year tomorrow night when Oregon hosts Fresno State in Eugene at Matt Knight Arena. The Ducks beat UNLV Saturday night in Portland, 83-63 to up their record to10-and-2, the Bull Dogs from Fresno are 8-and-3. It’s an 8pm tipoff televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Oregon will tipoff Pac-12 League play on the 28th hosting undefeated, and 2nd ranked UCLA who is 12-and-0 after thumping Ohio State by 13, 86-73.

Meantime…the Beavers continue to struggle as the Portland Pilots, coached by former Blazers great Terry Porter beat Oregon State yesterday at the ‘Dam Classic’ in Portland, 53-45. OSU is now 3-and-9 and U of P improves to 7-and-3. Portland hosts Portland State tomorrow night in inter-league play while the Beavers close out preseason Wednesday night entertaining Kent State.

Tonight in the Pac-12…#24 USC hosts Cornell, Stanford is at SMU, and Colorado plays at Air Force.

4 Bowl games down…40 to go leading up to the National Championship game on Monday, January 9th in Tampa Bay.

Saturday…San Diego State smashed Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl,
34-10. New Mexico beat Texas-San Antonio in the New Mexico Bowl, Appalachian State edged Toledo to claim the Camelia Bowl, Southern Miss beat Louisiana-Lafayette by a touchdown to win the New Orleans Bowl, and Arkansas State stuffed Scott Frost and Central Florida, 31-13
to win the Automation Cure Bowl. Today…Central Michigan and Tulsa tangle in the Miami Beach Bowl.

IN the College Football Championship playoffs, North Dakota State’s run of 6 straight years in the Title game came to an end Saturday when James Madison took a 27-17 win over the Bison in Fargo. Eastern Washington was eliminated in Cheney, Washington falling 40-38 to Youngstown State. So, it’s James Madison versus Youngstown State for the Divison One double-A Title set for January 7th in Frisco, Texas.

Northwest Missouri won the NCAA Divison-2 Title Saturday, and Mary Hardin-Baylor captured the D-3 Championship.

Western Hockey League

On the Western Hockey League ice, the Portland Winterhawks lost 4-2 in Everett to the Division-leading Silvertips Saturday night. The Hawks are 6th place in the West with a 19-and-15 record heading in to the W-H-L’s 10-day holiday break.
 

NFL

The 49-ers lose their 13th straight game as the Falcons smash SF in Atlanta, 41-13. The Raiders are in the Playoffs as Oakland slips by the Chargers in San Diego, 19-16. The Bud Light Monday Night game is in DC with the Redskins hosting the Panthers at 530pm on ESPN. Seattle gets set to entertain Arizona Sunday

Leavitt Named Oregon's Defensive Coordinator

(Eugene, OR)  --  Jim Leavitt is the new defensive coordinator for the University of Oregon football team.  Leavitt has spent the past two seasons at the University of Colorado where he helped turned around the Buffaloes.  Leavitt is one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which recognizes the top assistant coach in college football.

Beavers Drop Pair In Dam City Classic

(Portland, OR)  --  The Beavers went 0-for-2 over the weekend in the Dam City Classic in Portland.  OSU fell to Long Beach State, 71-67, on Friday night.  The Beavers followed that up with a 53-45 loss to the Portland Pilots on Sunday afternoon.  Oregon State hosts Kent State on Wednesday night.  The Beavers are 3-and-9 on the season.

Ducks Hammer Vikings

(Portland, OR)  --  The Oregon women's basketball team hammered the Portland State Vikings, 90-46, at the Moda Center on Saturday.  Ruthy Hebard led Oregon with 28 points and 17 rebounds.  The 9-and-2 Ducks host the Idaho Vandals tomorrow night.

Ducks Dump Rebels

(Portland, OR)  --  The Oregon men's basketball team dumped the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, 83-63, on Saturday at the Moda Center.  Dillon Brooks led the way with 20 points, and Jordan Bell added 16 points and 12 rebounds.  The 22nd-ranked Ducks have won eight straight to improve to 10-and-2 on the season.  Oregon hosts Fresno State tomorrow night at Matthew Knight Arena.

Beavers Visit Rebels

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The 15th-ranked Beavers take on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels tonight in the Las Vegas MGM Shootout.  Oregon State is 7-and-1 on the season.  The Beavers continue the tourney tomorrow night against either Quinnipiac or New Mexico State in Las Vegas.

The Blazers couldn’t even up their record last night losing in Denver, 132-120. It’s the 5th loss in the last 6 games for Portland who moves on to play at Golden State in Oakland tomorrow night, and Sacramento on Tuesday before returning to the Moda Center Wednesday to host  the Dallas Mavericks.

High School Sports

On the Prep hardwood tonight, #11 Summit boys entertains top-ranked Churchill tonight. Both teams are 4-and-0. Churchill is coached by former Redmond State Title coach Kelly Bokn (bow-ken). Elsewhere…3rd ranked Mt. View in Pendleton, Ridgeview plays at Hood River, and Bend hosts Marist. Sisters and Madras continue action at the Seaside weekend Tournament, and La Pine meets South Wasco County at the Culver Tourney, while the host Bulldogs tangle with Gilchrist. And, top-ranked Trinity Lutheran in the Single-A division plays Days Creek in Klamath Falls.

In other prep news…Summit quarterback John Bledsoe, Tight End Grant Tobias, Kyle Cornett, and Redmond’s Cooger Smith all named to the OSAA All-State Football first team.

The Oregon Ducks have hired a new Defensive Coordinator and he is Jim Leavitt who comes to Eugene after leading Colorado’s defense under Mike McIntyre who was named National Coach of the Year yesterday. Leavitt joins new Oregon coach Willie Taggart’s staff with a 4-year deal worth $3.2 million dollars.

And, the first of 44 Bowl games kick off tomorrow with the New Mexico Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, New Orleans Bowl, Camellia Bowl, and the Automation Cure Bowl. The College Football Playoff Title game is Monday, January 9th.
 

Western Hockey League

The Winterhawks play in Vancouver, BC tonight, Everett Saturday and then 10-days off for the Holiday break in the Western Hockey League.

NFL

Bud Light Thursday Night football last night in Seattle and the Seahawks beat the Rams, 24-to-3. Russell Wilson threw two second half TD’s to lead the Hawks to their 9th win on the year. Seattle will host the Arizona Cardinals on Christmas eve day. ON Sunday, the Raiders play in San Diego at 130pm, and the 49-ers travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Oregon State men's basketball team opens the Dam City Classic tonight at the Moda Center.  OSU will take on Long Beach State at 8:00 p.m.  The Beavers will close out the tourney against the Portland Pilots on Sunday afternoon.

Nuggets Sink Trail Blazers

(Denver, CO)  --  Eight players scored in double figures as the Nuggets downed the Trail Blazers, 132-120, at the Pepsi Center.  Damian Lillard scored 40 points and dished out 10 assists for Portland in defeat.  The Blazers struggled on defense, allowing Denver to shoot over 51-percent from the field and over 48-percent from long distance.  Portland dropped to 13-and-15 with the loss.  The Blazers continue their road trip at Golden State tomorrow night.

Beavers Head To Las Vegas

(Las Vegas, NV)  --  The 15th-ranked Oregon State women's basketball team is heading to Sin City.  The 7-and-1 Beavers take on UNLV on Monday in the MGM Shootout at T-Mobile Arena.  OSU will also play on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The tournament benefits the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

(Portland, OR)  --  It is a doubleheader of Oregon basketball tomorrow at the Moda Center.  The 8-and-2 women's team hosts Portland State at 5:00 p.m.  The 22nd-ranked men's team follows that up with a game against UNLV at 8:00 p.m.  The Ducks will be in search of their 10th win of the season.

(Denver, CO)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers are coming off a tough loss to the Denver Nuggets.  The Nuggets beat the Blazers 132-to-120 last night at the Pepsi Center in Colorado.  Up next for the Blazers is a road game against the Golden State Warriors.  That game will start at 7:30 tomorrow night.

Portland at Denver tonight

The Portland Trailblazers ended a 4-game losing streak Tuesday night running past the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-95. Tonight, the Blazers will try to even their record at 14-and-14 as they begin a short 3-game trip in Denver facing the Nuggets.

Bud Light Thursday Night football features the Seahawks hosting the Rams in Seattle at Century Link field with kickoff at 530pm on NBC. Seattle, 8-4-and-1, is looking to bounce back from being blown out in Green Bay Sunday, 38-10. The Rams who just fired head coach Jeff Fisher Monday roll in to Seattle with a dismal 4-and-9 record.

On the Prep hardwood tonight….both Sisters and Madras boys teams are in Seaside for a weekend tourney. The Outlaws face the host team Seaside tonight while Madras, coming off a big win over Bend Tuesday night, takes on Elma, Washington.  And, the Lady Outlaws and Crook County girl’s teams also in the Seaside Tournament. Trail Blazers Visit Nuggets

(Denver, CO)  --  The Trail Blazers visit the Denver Nuggets tonight at the Pepsi Center.  Portland is coming off a 114-95 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.  The Blazers are 13-and-14 on the season.  Denver is 9-and-16.

Oregon's Dye Named All-American

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon linebacker Troy Dye has been named an All-American by ESPN and "USA Today".  The freshman was a defensive leader for the Ducks, collecting a team-high 91 tackles and six-and-a-half sacks.  Dye was also named an honorable mention selection on the Pac-12's All-Conference team.

Ducks Fall To Rebels

(Oxford, MS)  --  The Ducks were unable to overcome 17 turnovers and lost to Ole Miss, 83-67, in Oxford, Mississippi.  Oregon's Ruthy Hebard recorded 22 points and eight rebounds, and Mallory McGwire added the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 12 rebounds in defeat.  The Ducks take on Portland State on Friday night at the Moda Center.  Oregon is 8-and-2 on the season.

Beavers Down Aggies

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Sydney Wiese recorded the fourth triple-double in OSU history as the Beavers thumped the UC Davis Aggies, 93-52, at Gill Coliseum.  Wiese finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.  The 15th-ranked Beavers improved to 7-and-1 with the win.  OSU visits Las Vegas next week for the MGM Shootout.

OSU Football Adds Three Recruits

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State football team is adding a trio of recruits to its 2017 class.  Defensive tackle Craig Evans, quarterback Jake Luton and offensive tackle Justin Sattelmaier each signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Beavers next season.  All three players are junior college transfers.

Beavers Prep For Dam City Classic

(Portland, OR)  --  The Beavers head to Portland this weekend for the Dam City Classic.  OSU will take on Long Beach State tomorrow night and the Portland Pilots on Sunday afternoon.  The Beavers are 3-and-7 on the season.

Blazers Roll Big Over Thunder

(Portland, OR)  --  The four-game losing streak for the Portland Trail Blazers is over.  The Blazers broke through with a big 114-to-95 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder last night at the Moda Center.  It game just one night after a tough one-point loss at the Los Angeles Clippers.  The Blazers are heading back to the road to take on the Denver Nuggets tomorrow night. Portland goes 13-and-14 on the season, and heads to Denver tomorrow night for a 6:00 pm tipoff and broadcast here on KBND. Portland back home a week from today for a 4-game stint up to the New Year.

High School Sports

On the prep hardwood last night in interdivisional play, Summit boys cruised to an easy 56-32 win over Sisters. The Storm are unbeaten in their first 4 preseason games and host top-ranked Churchill Friday night. Madras bumps Bend, 59-54.

On the girls side of hoop action…Sailor Woodward and Sophia Jackson each netted 14 points leading 3rd ranked Bend to a 62-50 win over #6 Lebanon. Redmond crushed Woodburn, 63-21. Sisters edged La Pine,
38-35.

In other prep news…Bend’s Tatiana Ensz was named the State’s Class 5A Volleyball Player of the Year leading the Lady Lava Bears to the State Title a month ago. Hawley Harrer (hair-er) of Sisters is voted the 4-A Volleyball player of the year as the Outlaws claimed their second Title in the last 3 seasons. And, Jonathan Reynoso of Madras is the 4A Boys Soccer player of the year.

The Ducks…Chris Boucher had 23 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, his 10th career ‘double-double’, to lead No. 22 Oregon to an 81-67 victory over Montana. Dylan Ennis added 22 points for the Ducks (9-2), who won their 7th straight and extended the nation's third-longest home winning streak to 32 games.

The Ducks shot 52 percent (30 of 58) for the game but struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 15 of 25. Ahmaad Rorie, who played his freshman season at Oregon before transferring last year, led the Grizzlies (3-8) with 19 points. The Ducks host U-N-L-V Saturday at 5pm.

Ducks Down Montana

(Eugene, OR)  --  Chris Boucher had 23 points and 19 rebounds as 22nd-ranked Oregon downed Montana, 81-67, in Eugene.  Dylan Ennis netted 22 for the 9-and-2 Ducks, who have won 32 in-a-row at home.  The Ducks meet UNLV on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland.

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State men's hoops is off the hardwood until Friday.  The Beavers host Long Beach State in Corvallis in a non-conference contest.  OSU has lost three straight and seven of their last eight games.
 

Thorns' Heath Named Player Of The Year

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Thorns midfielder Tobin Heath is the 2016 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year.  The 28-year-old finished with 40-percent of the vote, besting Crystal Dunn, who finished second.  Heath scored a career-best six goals and eight assists in 22 games for the U.S. Women's National Team in 2016.

NFL

Tom Brady connected with Chris Hogan for a 79-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter last night to help the Patriots to a 30-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Brady threw for 406 yards and 3 touchdowns, becoming the fourth NFL quarterback with at least 450 career touchdown passes. He also threw just his second interception of the season.

Former Duck LeGarrette Blount rushed for 72 yards on 18 carries, passing 1,000 yards for the first time since his rookie season with Tampa Bay in 2010. The Patriots (11-2) have won four straight games and eight of their last nine as they continue to inch toward their eighth straight AFC East title.

New England takes on the Broncos Sunday in Denver. The Bud Light Thursday Night came will be in Seattle with the Seahawks hosting the hapless Rams who fired head coach Jeff Fisher yesterday. Kickoff Thursday night from Century Link Field is 530pm televised on NBC.

Blazers host the Thunder

Blake Griffin had 26 points and 12 rebounds, Chris Paul had 21 points and 14 assists, and the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Portland Trail Blazers 121-120 last night in L-A to sweep the season series. CJ McCollom led Portland with 25 and Damian Lillard sank 24. The Blazers finish the 5-game road trip losing the last 4-straight games. Portland’s record slips to 12-and-14 and the Blazers with a back-to-back hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight here on KBND with tipoff set for 7:30pm. Timbers Reveal Protected List For Expansion Draft

Trail Blazers Visit Clippers

Heisman Trophy Winner

Lamar Jackson, quarterback for the Louisville University Cardinals  earned the 82nd Heisman Trophy Award Saturday night in New York City. Jackson completed 58 percent of his passes for 3,390 yards and 30 TD’s with just nine interceptions. He ran the ball for over 15-hundred yards and scored 21 times.

Jackson, a Sophomore, is the third player in history with 30 passing and 20 rushing TD’s. The other two players Cam Newton and Tim Tebow also won the Heisman. Louisville and Jackson play in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando New Year’s eve day against #20 L-S-U. Clemson’s Q-B DeShawn Jackson finished 2nd in the balloting with Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield third.

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw 5 interceptions, and meanwhile Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers threw 3 TD’s and the Packers stuffed the Seahawks in Green Bay yesterday, 38-10.  Hawks now 8-4-and-1 but still in drivers seat to leading NFC-West and will host the hapless Rams Thursday night.

The 49-ers let a 17-3 halftime lead slip away and the Jets rallied to beat San Francisco 23-17 handing the Niners their 12th straight loss. SF travels to Atlanta Sunday. The Bud Light Monday Night game is the Patriots hosting the Ravens tonight at 530pm on ESPN-TV.

MLS Cup

The M-L-S Cup ended in a scoreless tie Saturday between Toronto and the Seattle Sounders.  First time in history a shoutout pitched by both teams. Toronto finishes 14-9 and 12…Seattle closes out 14-14-and-7.

Ducks Survive Crimson Tide

(Eugene, OR)  --  Tyler Dorsey scored a game-high 19 points as the Oregon men's basketball team survived the Alabama Crimson Tide, 65-56.  Chris Boucher and Dillon Brooks each added 10 points as Oregon improved to 8-and-2 on the season.  The 24th-ranked Ducks host the Montana Grizzlies tomorrow night at Matthew Knight arena.

Tigers Down Beavers In OT

(Corvallis, OR)  --  Robert Kelly scored a game-high 24 points as the Savannah State Tigers downed the Oregon State Beavers, 93-90, in overtime at Gill Coliseum.  Drew Eubanks led OSU with 23 points and 16 rebounds.  The Beavers dropped to 3-and-7 on the season with the loss.  They'll take on Long Beach State in Portland on Friday in the Dam City Classic.

(Clemson, SC)  --  The Oregon women's basketball team visits the Clemson Tigers tonight at Littlejohn Coliseum.  The Ducks are coming off an 81-41 win over the Portland Pilots on Friday night.  Oregon is 7-and-1 on the season.  The Tigers are undefeated at 8-and-0.

Beavers Dominate Thunderbirds

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team rolled the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 77-38, at Gill Coliseum on Saturday.  Kat Tudor led the Beavers with a career-high 17 points, and Sydney Wiese and Breanna Brown each added 12 points.  The 16th-ranked Beavers improved to 6-and-1 on the season.  They'll host UC Davis on Wednesday night in Corvallis.

Oregon introduces new Football Coach

The Oregon Ducks introduced their head football coach Willie Taggart yesterday morning in Eugene.  Taggart becomes the school’s 31st head coach leaving South Florida after 4-seasons.

Taggart, 40, compiled a 24-and-25 record in Tampa Bay, but this year his team was 10-2 and will play South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl. No word if he will coach the team in the Bowl game. It’s reported Taggart will make $16-million over 5 years. And, no word yet on the remaining Oregon coaching staff.

Blazers lose at the last second

Marc Gasol scored 36 points and Toney Douglas made two free throws with less then one second to play last night in Memphis as the Grizzlies come from behind over the Blazers, 88-86. Memphis has won 5-straight. CJ McCollom led Portland with 24 and Damian Lillard 19. Portland’s starting Forward Maurice Harkless did not play because of an ankle sprain.  The Blazers head to Indiana to face the Pacers tomorrow here on Newstalk KBND at 4pm. The 5-game road trip ends in L-A against the Clippers on Monday.

Wilson Hoping For "Downpour Of Snow" At Lambeau

(Renton, WA)  --  Snow showers are predicted in Green Bay during Sunday's game between the Packers and the visiting Seattle Seahawks.  Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson says he's "hoping for kind of a downpour of snow" during the contest, for which the kickoff temperature is forecast at 29 degrees.  Wilson, who spent part of his college career with the University of Wisconsin, says Lambeau Field will provide a tough environment, and he's looking forward to it.  Kickoff Sunday is set for 1:25 p.m.

Beavers Host Tigers

(Corvallis, OR)  --  The Beavers host the Savannah State Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.  OSU has dropped six of its past seven games to fall to 3-and-6 on the season.  Savannah State is 2-and-8.

Oregon Names USF's Taggart Next Head Coach

(Eugene, OR)  --  University of Oregon is naming Willie Taggart its next head football coach.  He leaves South Florida to replace Mark Helfrich, who was fired last week following a 4-and-8 season.  Taggart has spent the last four years at USF, guiding the Bulls to a school-record 10-and-2 mark this season.  The 40-year-old was 24-and-25 overall at South Florida after posting a 16-and-20 record at his alma mater Western Kentucky.  He becomes the first black head football coach in Oregon's 122-year history, and first coach hired outside the program since 1976.

We start with prep basketball and the first full week of preseason action underway. Last night a thriller on the west side of town as the Summit Storm hang on for a 56-52 double-overtime win over North Medford.


The Storm off to a 3-and-0 start were led by Russell Wells who scored 11-points and Cam Baker added 10-points and hauled in a dozen rebounds.
Summit’s travels to Eugene this weekend to meet Corvallis and LaSalle in a tournament hosted by Marist.

Elsewhere…In Prineville, Ridgeview notched its first win by handing Crook County its third straight loss, 44-36. La Pine had no answer for hot-shooting Mazama as the Vikings sank 11-three pointers enroute to a 73-52 win.
La Pine, 2-2, will travel to Portland for a 3-day weekend Tourney and will face Class 3-A power and 2-time State Champion Cascade Christian tomorrow night.

On the girls side last night…the Lady Storm suffered their first loss as North Medford defeated Summit, 56-38 and Mazama ran past La Pine, 59-28.
 

Blazers visit the Bucks tonight

The Portland Trailblazers will shoot for their 4th straight win tonight in Milwaukee when they take on the Bucks. The Blazers opened their 5-game road trip with a 2-point in Chicago Monday night to improve to 12-and-10.


Portland flies to Memphis after the game tonight to meet the Grizzlies tomorrow night, then will play in Indiana Saturday before ending the trip in L-A against the Clippers Monday night. The Blazers and Bucks tonight here on KBND as we bring you the tipoff with Brian Wheeler at 5pm.

Former Stanford Cardinal and Heisman Trophy winner Andrew Luck threw 4 TD passes leading the Colts to a 41-10 win in New York over the Jets. Colts improve to a timid 5-and-6 mark while New York drops its fourth straight game at 3-and-9.

Week 14 of the NFL kicks off with the Bud Light Thursday Night game of the week in a classic rivalry. In Kansas City, the Chiefs will host the Raiders with one game separating the two teams for the AFC-West lead owned by Oakland with a 10-2 record. The Raiders haven’t made the Playoffs in 12 years.

The All-State prep Volleyball Teams have been selected by the State’s coaches and Bend Lava Bear head coach Kristen Cooper has been name OSAA Class 5A ‘Coach of the Year’ leading Bend to the State Championship. Tatiana Ensz of Bend earned First Team All-State honors as well. Meantime, in the 4-A division, Sisters Head Coach Rod Jones earned Coach of the Year honors leading the Outlaws to the State Title. Jessie Brigham and Hayler Harper were named to the All-State first team along with Crook County’s Jennifer Roth and Abby Smith.

On the College hardwood…Villanova becomes the nation’s new Number-1 ranked team bumping Kentucky off the perch after UCLA beat the Wildcats Saturday. Nova is 8-and-0 and received 57 of the 65 first place votes.

UCLA at 9-0 is up to #2….Kansas ranked third, and Baylor and Duke make up the Top-5. Kentucky drops to sixth, followed by north Carolina, Gonzaga, Indiana, and Creighton. Arizona is 20th and the Oregon Ducks 24th.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The search for Mark Helfrich's replacement as Oregon Ducks football coach continues.  Helfrich was fired after a 4-and-8 season in Eugene.  It is likely the first time the program will hire from outside the current staff since 1976.  ESPN reports Oregon interviewed South Florida head coach Willie Taggart over the weekend.

Blazers Outlast Bulls

(Chicago, IL)  --  Damian Lillard led the way with 30 points and seven assists as the Trail Blazers outlasted the Bulls 112-110 in Chicago.  C.J. McCollum poured in 24 points for Portland, which has reeled off three straight wins.  The 12-and-10 Blazers continue their five-game road trip tomorrow at the Milwaukee Bucks.

Portland State Hires Cleary As Athletic Director

(Portland, OR)  --  Valerie Cleary has been named the new director of athletics at Portland State University.  Cleary takes over for Mark Rountree, who moves on to Georgia Tech.  She is scheduled to head up the Vikings' Athletic Department beginning on January 1st.

Oregon, OSU Hoops Off This Week

(Undated)  --  Oregon and Oregon State men's basketball is off the hardwood this week.  The Ducks and Beavers each return to action on December 11th.  The 7-and-2, 24th-ranked Ducks host Alabama on Sunday.  Meanwhile, OSU has dropped back-to-back games and welcomes Savannah State in Corvallis.  
 

Blazers Win Third Straight, Defeat Bulls

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Portland Trail Blazers have a three-game winning streak going, following last night's 112-110 road win over Chicago.  Damian Lillard led Portland with 30 points and seven assists, and CJ McCollum added 24 points.  The Blazers are two games back of division-leading Oklahoma City.  Portland will visit Milwaukee tomorrow night.

High School Sports

The last Oregon prep Championship of the Fall was grabbed Saturday in Portland, the host site to the O-S-A-A’s Class 6-A Football Title game. West Linn, coached by former Duck and NFL quarterback Chris Miller smashed Central Catholic, 62-to-7.

The College Football playoffs and Bowl games are set….Number-1 Alabama will face the No. 4 Washington Huskies in the Chick-fil-A ‘Peach Bowl’ in Atlanta New Year’s eve, while the No. 2 Clemson Tigers will play No. 3 Ohio State in the PlayStation ‘Fiesta Bowl’ in Glendale, Arizona in the national Semifinals as announced yesterday by the College Football Playoff committee.

The winners meet for the national title on Monday night January 9th in Tampa Bay. Big Ten champion Penn State missed the cut despite its 38-31 win over Wisconsin Saturday, and a win over Ohio State.The Nittany Lions, winners of 9-straight games, finished ranked 5th, and Michigan 6th. Penn State meets USC in the Rose Bowl, and Michigan battles Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

Pac-12 Bowl bids include 10th ranked Colorado playing #12 Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. 19th ranked Utah faces Indiana in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, and #18 Stanford tangles with North Carolina in the Sun Bowl in El Paso. The Cougars will face Minnesota in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. Meantime…Boise State plays Baylor in the Cactus Bowl in Phoenix at Chase Stadium.

NFL

From the NFL last night, the Seahawks routed the Panthers 40-to-7 to improve to 8-3-and-1. Seattle plays in Green Bay this weekend.

The Oakland Raiders are 10-and-2 now after yesterday’s homefield 38-24 win over the Bills who drop to 6-and-6. Oakland who leads the AFC-West by 1-game over the Chiefs. Kansas City hosts the Raiders Thursday night on NBC at 530p. KC beat Oakland in week-6, 26-10.

Chip Kelly and the 49-ers lose their 12th straight game as the Bears beat San Francisco in Chicago, 26-6.

The Bud Light Monday Night game is the Jets hosting the Colts.

UCLA is for real as the unbeaten 9-and-0 and 11th ranked Bruins took down #1 Kentucky on Saturday, 97-92. Arizona lost to Gonzaga, 69-62.

The Ducks beat Savannah State, 128-59. Oregon, 7-2, will play Alabama Sunday at 3pm. Oregon State drops to 3-and-6 losing at Charlotte Saturday, 69-66. The Beavers limp home and will host Savannah State Sunday.

Trail Blazers Visit Bulls

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Trail Blazers visit the Chicago Bulls tonight at the United Center.  Portland is coming off a 99-92 win over the Miami Heat on Saturday.  The Blazers have won two straight to improve to 11-and-10 on the year.

Oregon Dominates Savannah State

(Eugene, OR)  --  Seven players scored in double figures as the Oregon men's basketball team exploded for a school-record 128 points in a 128-59 win over the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday.  Tyler Dorsey scored a career-high 29 points and Dillon Brooks added 22 in the victory.  The Ducks improved to 7-and-2 with the win.  They'll host Alabama on Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena.

Ducks Down Vanguard

(Eugene, OR)  --  Lexi Bando scored a team-high 14 points as the Oregon women's basketball team downed the Vanguard Lions, 95-55, in an exhibition matchup at Matthew Knight Arena.  Thirteen players saw action for the Ducks.  Oregon is 6-and-1 on the year and hosts the Portland Pilots on Friday.

Beavers Wrap Up Road Trip With Loss

(Charlotte, NC)  --  The OSU men's basketball team wrapped up its two-game road trip with a 69-66 loss to the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday.  Kendal Manuel led the Beavers with 15 points.  Oregon State is 3-and-6 on the season and hosts Savannah State on Sunday.

Ducks Named To All-Conference Team

(Eugene, OR)  --  Oregon's football season is over, but the Pac-12 is rewarding a couple of Ducks for their on-field performance.  Senior tight end Pharaoh Brown was named a first-team All-Conference selection, and sophomore running back Tony Brooks-James received second-team recognition as a special teams player.  The Ducks ended the season with a record of 4-and-8 and fired head coach Mark Helfrich.

WSU To Play Minnesota In Holiday Bowl

(Pullman, WA)  --  The Washington State Cougars will be rewarded for their 8-and-4 season by playing Minnesota in the Holiday Bowl.  The game will be played in San Diego on December 27th.  The Cougars ended the regular season with an Apple Cup loss to Washington, who's headed to the College Football Playoff to take on top-ranked Alabama in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.  KREM-TV reports Mike Leach is the first head coach in the program's history to lead the Cougars to three bowl games in his first five years. 

Beavers Sweep Series In Hawaii

(Maui, HI)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team won both its games over the weekend at the Maui Classic in Hawaii.  OSU downed Idaho on Friday, 60-49.  It followed that up with a 65-56 win over BYU on Saturday.  The 18th-ranked Beavers are 5-and-1 and host Southern Utah on Saturday.

Seahawks Clobber Carolina, 40-7

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are winners of four of their last five games, as they continue to roll toward a playoff berth.  Seattle defeated Carolina at home last night, 40-7, with running back Thomas Rawls rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns.  The Seahawks' reinvigorated offense was somewhat overshadowed by the loss of safety Earl Thomas, who suffered a broken tibia in the first half and is expected to be out for the rest of the season.  The Hawks will visit Green Bay next Sunday.

High School Sports

The high school basketball season tips off tonight with preseason games. Defending IMC Boys Champion Mt. View hosts Putnam from Portland. Bend greets Milwaukie. Ridgeview entertains Lebanon…Redmond travels to Hood River and Summit is on the road at Clarkston, Washington. Elsehwere, Sisters takes on Crook County, and LaPine hosts a 4-team, 2-day Tourney with the Eagles hosting Burns tonight at 8:15pm.

NCAAB

Sophomore star guard Stephen Thompson returned to the Oregon State lineup recovering from a foot injury, but Mississippi State jumped on the young Beavers early on the Bulldogs home court in Starkville taking a 26-point lead and rolling on to a 74-57 win.

Thompson led OSU with 20-points who fall to 3-and-5. Mississippi State is coached now by former UCLA head coach Ben Howland. The Beavers finish the 2-game trip in Charlotte tomorrow afternoon.

#8 Gonzaga breezed past Mississippi Valley State in Spokane, 97-63. The Zags are 7-and-0 and will host 16th ranked Arizona tomorrow afternoon at 230pm and nationally televised on ESPN.

The 23rd ranked Oregon Ducks will look to push their record to 7-and-2 tomorrow at 3pm at Matt Knight Arena when they host Savannah State. The Ducks are coming off a 93-54 win over Western Oregon Wednesday night.

Other Pac-12 games tomorrow see 11th ranked and unbeaten UCLA play at top-rated Kentucky in a 930am tipoff on CBS. Stanford plays at #4 Kansas and 7-and-0 USC entertains B-Y-U.

A victory by 4th ranked Washington over No. 9 Colorado in the Pac-12 Championship Game might be enough to get the Huskies into the College Football Playoff. The Huskies and Buffaloes meet tonight for 6th Pac-12 Title game in Santa Clara in a 6pm kickoff televised on Fox. Washington, 11-and-1, has a 6-game win streak over Colorado who in one season went from worst-to-first in the South Division of the League. Coming up Sunday, the College Football Playoff Committee will announce its decision on who the Final-4 national Semifinal teams will be.

Portland hosts Miami tomorrow at 7

The Trailblazers close out their home stand tomorrow night hosting the Miami Heat in a 7pm tipoff at the Moda Center. Portland blew out the Pacers Wednesday night, 131-109 to even their record at 10-and-10. The Blazers head out for a 5-game trip starting in Chicago Monday night.

Trail Blazers Host Heat

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers host the Miami Heat at the Moda Center tomorrow night.  Damian Lillard leads the Blazers in scoring at over 28 points per game.  He's scored a total of 564 points over 20 games this season, which is the most in franchise history for Portland.  The Blazers are 10-and-10 on the year.  Miami has won two in a row to improve to 7-and-12 on the season.

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys won their 11th straight game last night beating the Vikings in Minnesota, 17-15. Dallas is 11-and-1 and will travel to New York next Sunday to face the Giants. The Seahawks entertain Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in the NBC Sunday night game at 530pm. The Hawks are 7-and-3, and the Panthers just 4-and-7. The 49-ers are in Chicago to battle the Bears, and the AFC-West leading Oakland Raiders host the Buffalo Bills Sunday at 1pm on CBS.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon women's basketball team hosts the Vanguard Lions on Sunday afternoon in Eugene.  The Ducks are 6-and-1 on the season.  The Lions are 5-and-1.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon men's basketball team hosts the Savannah State Tigers tomorrow afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.  The 20th-ranked Ducks are 6-and-2 on the season.  The Tigers are 2-and-7.

Beavers Take On Idaho, BYU In Hawaii

(Maui, HI)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball team is in the Aloha State for the Maui Classic this weekend.  The 18th-ranked Beavers put their 3-and-1 record on the line against the Idaho Vandals tonight.  OSU wraps up the Maui Classic against the BYU Cougars tomorrow night.

Bulldogs Down Beavers

(Starkville, MS)  --  The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to Mississippi State, 74-57, in Starkville.  Stephen Thompson Junior returned to the lineup to lead OSU with 20 points.  He had missed the past six games due to a foot injury.  The Beavers dropped to 3-and-5 on the season.  They'll host the Charlotte 49ers tomorrow afternoon.

Huskies, Buffaloes Play For PAC-12 Title Tonight

(Santa Clara, CA)  --  The PAC-12 Championship will be on the line tonight when the Washington Huskies play the Colorado Buffaloes at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.  Huskies quarterback Jake Browning, a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, needs three touchdown passes to tie the conference single-season record of 43.  He'll be facing Colorado's formidable defensive backfield, which has allowed just 13 touchdown passes this season and recorded 15 interceptions.  Kickoff tonight is set for six o'clock.
 

Portland's Crouch Named Coach Of The Year

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland's Brent Crouch has been named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year.  Crouch guided the Pilots' volleyball team to a 17-and-13 record this season.  Several of Crouch's players are also being recognized.  Hannah Troutman was named a first-team All-Conference selection, while Cali Thompson was named to the conference's All-Freshman team, and Katie Sullivan was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.

Preseason All-American guard Dillon Brooks scored 21 points and Roman Sorkin had a career high 15 points as #23 Oregon cruised to a 93-54 win over Western Oregon last in Eugene.

The Ducks are enjoying a 5-game home stint and were hosting NCAA Division-2 Western who Oregon outrebounded 52-to-27. Oregon improves its record to 6-and-2, while the Wolves drop even at 4-and-4. The Ducks will host Savannah State Saturday afternoon in a 3pm tipoff at Matt Knight Arena.

Tonight, the 3-and-4 Oregon State Beavers are in Starkille, Mississippi  to take on 4-2 Mississippi State of the S-E-C. OSU is hurting from two key injuries to Stephen Thompson and Tres (trace) Tinkle who are out of the lineup. The Beavers and Bulldogs tipoff at 6pm televised nationally on ESPN-U. Oregon State heads to Charlotte on Saturday.

Kentucky is ranked number-1 in this week’s Coaches poll followed by Villanova and North Carolina who was knocked off last night by #10 Indiana, 76-67. Gonzaga is rated 8th with UCLA 9th…St. Mary’s is 13th and Arizona 15th.

NFL

Bud Light Thursday Night football from Minnesota will feature the 6-and-5 Vikings hosting the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys hold the best record in the NFL and lead the NFC-East division with a 10-and-1 mark. Kickoff is set for 530pm on NBC.

Blazers Paste Pacers, 131-109

Damian Lillard had 28 points and 10 rebounds as the Portland Trailblazers beat the Indiana Pacers coached by former Blazer Coach Nate McMillen, 131-109.

Portland outplayed the Pacers in every way including only turning the ball over 6-times. 4 of 5 Blazer starters scored in double-figures in the win upping Portland’s record to 10-and-10.

Former Oregon Duck players Aaron Brooks and Joe Young both played for the Pacers with Brooks netting 16 points coming off the bench. The Blazers will greet the Miami Heat Saturday night before heading out for a 5-game trip.

Portland Winterhawks

On the Western Hockey League ice last night in Spokane, the Portland Winterhawks were edged by the Chiefs, 2-1. The Hawks had won 3 straight. Portland skates in Kennewick tomorrow night taking on the Tri City Americans. The Winterhawks are 14-and-12 on the season.

(Starkville, MS)  --  The Oregon State men's basketball team visits the Mississippi State Bulldogs tonight at Humphrey Coliseum.  OSU is 3-and-4 on the season.  The Beavers wrap up their two-game road trip against the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon men's basketball thumped the Western Oregon Wolves, 93-54, at Matthew Knight Arena.  Dillon Brooks led the Ducks with 21 points, and Jordan Bell added eight points and 12 rebounds.  Oregon has won four straight to improve to 6-and-2 on the year.  The 20th-ranked Ducks host Savannah State on Saturday afternoon.

PSU Athletic Director Resigns

(Portland, OR)  --  Mark Rountree, the Director of Athletics at Portland State University, is resigning.  Rountree has accepted the Deputy Athletic Director position at Georgia Tech University.  He had been the Vikings' Athletic Director since 2015.

Beavers Prep For Maui Classic

(Maui, HI)  --  The Oregon State women's basketball hits the road for the first time this season as the 18th-ranked Beavers travel to the Aloha State for the Maui Classic this weekend.  The Beavers are 3-and-1 on the season.  They'll take on the Idaho Vandals on Friday night and the BYU Cougars on Saturday night.
 

Sounders To Play Toronto For MLS Cup

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seattle Sounders now know who they'll play in the MLS Cup Final.  Toronto FC will host Seattle in the league title match on Saturday, December 10th at five p.m.  Toronto made it to the final by defeating Montreal in the Eastern Conference Championship series, and the Sounders advanced by defeating Colorado in the Western Conference Championship.  This season's MLS Cup is the first in the league's 21-year history to not feature one of the ten original teams.
